Fifa 13: Career Mode Discussions

I freed up a load of cash by accidentally selling Suarez for £37.5m to Madrid (they only offered £22m so I countered with something I presumed they'd turn down) and recalling Carroll (for about £2.4m).

With the spare cash I was able to buy Agbonlahor, Ben Arfa and Sessegnon and bring Leandro in on loan.

I now rotate all four without noticing any decline in my performances as they've all got different skills.

Nah, Suarez is finishing his career in Liverpool if I have anything to do with it. :)

I've so far managed to swap Jose Enrique and some cash for Alaba from Bayern Munchen, sold Doni, Jones and Gulasci for some young perspective keeper and also I've swapped Cole and a good amount of cash for a young brazilian playmaker Bernard from Atlético Mineiro. He's amazing, small, nippy, skillful and is currently playing left attacker in my version of 433.

Downing went to Borussia Dortmund.

Now all I need is a decent cover for Suarez and onwards I go.

Played only two league games so far, a hectic 2:4 loss against Manchester City on my opening day (fixtures got rearanged for some reason), marekd by defensive errors and two sublime Suarez goals and a scrappy 0:1 victory against WBA away that played very differently to the first game. Now Arsenal at Anfield.

I like the sound of Bernard, I might take a look at him.

Downing went to Newcastle in my game. I struggled like mad to get rid of Cole (I can't even remember where he went such is his insignificance in real life!)

I couldn't work with the 4-3-3 that is LFC's default formation. For a start it's marginally wrong in the DM position and secondly, I couldn't score from it.

I play 4-4-2 (deep?) or 4-2-3-1.

I too had that change of fixtures - annoyed the life out of me.

Regarding the 433..
I've altered my sliders so that my team lies very deep.

Positioning: Line Height - 20
Positioning: Line Length - 20
Positioning: Line Width - 30
Positioning: Fullback Positioning - 45

This helps a bit with having enough protection for my defence as I'm very compacted in front of the box and opposition is usually chanelled to the side and is looking for a flukey cross. Not easy against City and the likes but my defence was very solid against Albion so I'll stick with this formation for a while.
Downside is that it's very difficult to play a quick counter with more then two players involved, so I usually take my time building up the attack until at least 6 players are in the attacking third mixing it up, probing and moving defenders out of shape. Then it just takes a fast dribble into space and a precise shot by either Bernard or Suarez. So far it's working well but I'll probably encounter some bumps along the way soon enough.

I too have altered the sliders for Height, Length and Width to make my defence deeper but I still have fullback positioning nearer 60 (can't remember the exact figure) so that Johnson still gets forward just as he does in real life (he even scored from open play by being in the box last night).

Sounds like you have a decent gameplan though, hats off to you!

I'd do that as well if I could only select one fullback to bomb forward.
As it is I think it's too much of a risk to commit both of them especially with DM's being useless against counter attacks and never covering for absent fullbacks.

Create custom tactics, have Johnson with low Defensive, High Attacking, then have your LB with default on both - it works for me.

Every match I check and Johnson's player performance shows him covering areas higher up the pitch than the LB ;-p

When i started as manager of Liverpool my only two transfers were for Walcott and Oxlaide Chamberlain

£10,000,000 for Chamberlain
£6,000,000 & Joe Cole for Walcott

So in mine Joe Cole Plays for Arsenal! lol
TBH I've concentrated on the player career. Haven't played it today as I've played Resident Evil 6.
Refreshing to have a break from it once in a while.
Think I will see how I fair as player with Liverpool in the 2nd player season. Already had to face the guys I was on loan with lol Now Manchester Utd at home.

So any news on any kind of fix for all these numerous bugs in CM? Is the plan still a 45-day patch?

Kind of puts you off playing CM knowing your game can freeze or some fucked up shit can happen any second!

Absolute quality. Looks like he won player of the season last year too

http://www.thesoccerpages.com/2011/sites/default/files/news_default/SiyabongaNomvethe_PSLAwards.jpg

I think its great that you can buy a player of that age on a 1 year contract, because their guile & experience may be just what an under performing lower ranked club needs as a short term fix.

For the same reasons, Im seriously tempted by Lee Trundle! :)

Haha well that was the plan :SMUG:

Hopefully he can start chipping in with the goals and ease the burden on Brosque; he is practically the only striker who has scored AT ALL this season for me :CONFUSE:

Yep, first game of the first season.

Oh right ok.
I think i noticed that Liverpool missed out WBA away as 1st instead playing Man City and Arsenal at home which happend.

I did notice after my loan spell it finally told me how premier league did as it had stuck on 2 games played.

I did notice an odd thing, Season had come to an end but the teams had played varied games!!!! Arsenal won the title playing 41 games?????
Chelsea came 2nd after 39 games and Man Utd 3rd after 40??? huh???

Anyone else see something like it??

Enjoying my Career mode with my Pro.

Coming to the end of the season I am joint top scorer with Tevez on 17 goals, which is quite realistic. I have gone on scoring streaks and have had big dips in form where I couldn't buy a goal.

I am currently 1 point above Chelsea in the league with a few games left, but I still have to play Man City and Liverpool! So it is going to be tough.

I am through to the Semi's of Europa league/cup (Arsenal did shit without me last season). Great two legged tie with Spartak Moscow they scored in the last 5 mins of my tie at the Emirates to make it 1-1 going into the second leg. Was tough second leg, but we managed to get 3 goals after the break. They pushed forwards after we got the first goal and the others were easy to get with lots of space left on the counter.

I have Spurs in the FA cup Semi final, so I am really looking forward to that (Just like the good old days!).

So I could have the League, Europa League and FA Cup at the end of the season. Although it sounds unrealistic (Arsenal winning anything :PP) the season has ebbed and flown really realistically. Struggling against weaker opposition, some classic games with the teams around me. Having a bad start at the beginning of the season.

Also with my Pro not banging in 40 goals, 17 goals in the league 29 altogether is a believable amount. I hope to get about 21 goals in the league and hopefully Tevez starts missing :))

Anyway, I am really enjoying the game. My Pro has only gone up by 3 points this whole season, which is good as well. I don't know what I will start next season as if I meet my season objectives, but it would be good to see.

Interesting, what formation did you play in past FIFA games? All I've used the last several years has been variants of a 4-3-3 (and sometimes a 3-4-3) and I've been successful against CPU and human opponents. 4-3-3 has always seemed great to me, it covers so much of the pitch while still retaining dominance in center midfield.

Honestly, i only liked 4-2-3-1 in most career mode games or sometimes 4-4-2 and anything would go in online modes, with 4-1-3-2 being suprisingly good. Last year 4-3-2-1 was brilliant for me though in career mode, excellent on the counter attack.

I don't know why 4-3-3 is suddenly brilliant for me but i just wanted to try something new with 4-4-2 holding and 4-2-3-1 being rather boring and failing to create chances. I play 4-3-3 with the central mid playing deep like Makelele used to for Chelsea and Mascherano did when at Liverpool. Everybody else in the team gets so much room and my full backs want to push up too so my attacks have many threats.

Also, does anybody have any real transfer gems that i should go for in January, ever since my takeover i have a huge hole burning in my pocket.

My team now: Scunthorpe United - League 1 - Formation 4-3-3
Vorm GK 81
------------------------
Montoya (loan, season) RB 74
Fontas (loan, season CB 75
Marc Bartra (loan, season) CB 75
Robinson (loan, season) LB 67
--------------------------
Lincoln CAM playing as RCM 74
Vayrynen CM playing as CDM 69
Redmond RM playing as LCM 69
--------------------------
Verdi LW playing as RW 70
Long ST 75
Sterling (loan to buy for £1,900,000) LW 71
---------------------------

There is good depth for the defence with a 63 RB and a 68 RM who can play there, a 69 and 66 CB and a 66 rated LB, all in the club permanently.

NOMVETHE HAS SCORED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's taken 'til his 8th appearance but finally, HE SCORES!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSS

I did change his number from 9 to 10, before the game... I also gave him some green boots...

I've got a striker like that with liverpool.

They signed Leandro Damião while I was on loan but since I came back he hasn't scored a single goal in 10 matches lol When I get subbed off he is ALWAYS the one to replace me lol He's F'n useless lol

A striker My pro Partnered with at Charlton was epic, that was Bradley Wright Phillips!!! I partnered with 5 or 6 others but the best games came when he was up there. Quite quick and nippy with the ball.

Haha that is pretty terrible, I just tried to feed the ball through to Nomvethe for practically the whole game until he scored... it turned out to be a sitter; but a goal is a goal :SMUG:

I've never had Wright-Phillips on Fifa but he is quite the beast on Football Manager :P

It's interesting to hear what formations people like. I too never liked 4-3-3 in FIFA before this year, but right now I'm having some very good success with it. At the same time, I'm really struggling with my favored 4-2-3-1.

In the past, with the lack of runs and midfield support, I found playing without two strikers very difficult, because you simply struggled to get guys in the good scoring positions otherwise. Playing with a lower league side as I typically do in my CMs, it was even more difficult.

Now, I think largely to the improved attacking AI, using the 4-3-3 I'm seeing some great runs from midfielders as well as wingers.

Now if only I could settle on a set of Custom Tactics that I like...

Am I missing something or is there no way to know the ratings of the opposing teams/players?

It's really annoying not knowing whether I'm playing superior/inferior teams.

For example, I just crushed a team 4-0. But because I don't know the ratings of the opposition, it's hard to tell whether my sliders/settings are making things too easy, or whether it was a deserved win based on differences in quality, etc.

Go to team management screen, go to marking and then you can view not only their starting 11 but bench and reserve players too.

Into March in my Barcelona CM ( also the coach of Netherlands ), and this is my starting IX;

Victor Valdes
------
Dani Alves
Sergio Ramos ( Bought from Real Madrid for $28.5 )
G.Pique
Jordi Alba
------
Busquets
Xavi
Andres Iniesta
--------
Pedro
Lionel Messi
David Villa
-------

So far I'm top of the league by like 12 points, in the finals of the Copa del Rey ( which will be against Madrid ), beat AC Milan 1-0 in the first leg of the CL R16 and already won the Spanish Supercup 4-2 on aggregate against Madrid ( two 2-1 victories ). Pretty good, also got myself at the helm of the Netherlands!

Hello Mate, i have been playing fifa 13 career mode, playing ARSENAL and one thing i don't understand. i want to renew my players contracts, ryo, afobe, walcott, but they reject them by "the length of the contract haven't met". all of them have 1 years contract remaining. i give each of them 4/5 years contract. and raise all their wage, doubles it. But why they keep rejecting?
and the chairman advise just to renew them 1 years. why?? help me guys.

Observations from last night:

Going from Professional to World Class has increased my enjoyment of the game by about 25% (even if I am now drawing every game!). The amount of variation in the CPU's play has increased more than that even.

I love how much tactics have an effect now - Wigan were over-powering me in midfield due to their odd 3-3-2-1 formation so I had my two CBs mark their 2 CAMs - threat neutralised. In another game I had my two strikers mark the oppositions two CBs so they couldn't play their way out from the back; this again worked well.

Similarly, as I mentioned yesterday, changing the attacking and defending mentality of individual players has a tangible effect. I have Agger with a high attacking mentality and Skrtel low and I often find Agger marauding into midfield with the ball, just like he does in real life.

I love how when I check the stats at the end, the CPU has passed the ball as many times (at least) as me. In previous versions the most any single CPU player would pass would be 5 or 6, or so it seemed. In the game away to Wigan last night, Mcarthy passed the ball 20+ times with others around the high teens mark.

I heard the "You're not singing, you're not singing, you're not singing anymore" chant last night after coming from behind in a game - quality.

Players that have been signed by the CPU now appear when you play against them (I have this recollection that they wouldn't ever make the starting 11?). PLayed against Lyon who had, bizarrely, signed Krul from Newcastle in January and lo and behold he played against me (and had a stinker).

I had more than this to share today but I've forgotten some things so I may come back to you....(already added two points!)

Does anyone know if players have built-in tendencies to cover certain areas of the the field or is that purely dependent on which position you're letting them play (and their attacking/defensive workrates)? For instance, if I decide to use Cristiano Ronaldo as CDM (just for the sake of argument), will he then stick to the area on the field that "belongs" to that role?

I'm having a hard time explaining what I mean, and it doesn't help that English isn't my first language. I apologize for that and I hope you guys still get what I mean.

Your English is fine, understood perfectly!

They will occupy the correct place on the pitch, however the effectiveness of how they do it will be harshly effected by their statistical ability.

I'm wondering if anybody here as a decent counter attacking formation and custom tactics to match as it's a play style I've been looking to experiment with for quite sometime now and feel it would be quite effective to be use when an opposing team is pressing for a goal in order to steal one for myself on the break.

If there is a better thread for me to post this in, please just let me know, thank you,

Tactics wise I haven't got any yet but, 3-5-2 is my UT formation set on Ultra Defensive it works great as a counte attacking set up with the SM's working back as LB and RB while the DM's effectively create a 7 man defence, then (if they're quick enough) the SM's get forward an create a 5 man attack quickly wot our two CF's and the AM!

I'm shocking at creating tactics so I don't know what's appropriate in order to play a counter attacking style. Thank you for the suggestion, going from that I think I may adopt the 3-4-3 formation that Wigan Atheltic seem to be using at the minute and have the respective LM and RM attacking and defending, would that work? as it would create a 5 or 7 man defence depending on how I choose to use my central midfielders and a 5 man attack on the break. Would this be feasible?
