Fifa 13: Career Mode Discussions

I'm shocking at creating tactics so I don't know what's appropriate in order to play a counter attacking style. Thank you for the suggestion, going from that I think I may adopt the 3-4-3 formation that Wigan Atheltic seem to be using at the minute and have the respective LM and RM attacking and defending, would that work? as it would create a 5 or 7 man defence depending on how I choose to use my central midfielders and a 5 man attack on the break. Would this be feasible?

That should work yes!

Just discovered the worst thing about this game so far even with all the bugs.
I got sacked from arsenal FA after winning the COC, FA cup, reaching the champions league final and 2nd in the prem with 2 games in hand on 1st. It was because of my language which is a complete in game thing that I cannot control or change which is completely ridiculous!

From this the best job I got offered was Bilbao but they were without Llorente and muniain.

How is that the worst thing? Don't swear when you have kinect enabled, simples!

That's exactly what I mean, I didn't swear at all!

Well there's been reports that kinect has been falsely recognising the commentary as swearing apparently, presumably you got 3 or 4 warning emails? Not sure if there's a way to turn off the swearing "recognition" but maybe you need to calibrate the microphone so it's not picking up external noises (if that's the cause).

Wigan were over-powering me in midfield due to their odd 3-3-2-1 formation

Definately an odd formation :D

I understand where you're going from though, the variation in teams makes it harder to stop them now, they are far less one dimensional.

Go to team management screen, go to marking and then you can view not only their starting 11 but bench and reserve players too.

Thank you. Although you can only see their starting lineups, but that's fine.

It's pretty shocking that they didn't think to make it so that I can see the quality of team that I'm about to play. No team star ranking, no player ratings, nothing. Talk about poor design.

At the least, why not just include the same thing they do for Match Day, which has the team's Att/Mid/Def numbers and a star ranking. Throw me a friggin bone for gods sake.

Anyone else think that player growth speed is a bit ridiculous this year?

Far too many players are +6 in one season. I've got guys not even making my bench who are growing at this pace. Maybe they slow down after a while but right now it's a bit silly.

Also, the computer generated players (scouted players) are amazing this year. Though the fact that so many are coming out with 5 star skills is also a bit silly. But I've found one little Mexican "fake" player in the transfer market who is like a Messi clone and is an absolute blast to play with.

Plus, the announcers now say many of their names! And does anyone else think they've added/improved some of the generic faces? Added to that that you can now edit their boots (although they often come with real boots assigned!), and "fake" players are a lot better this year.

Now if only they can find an alternative to the black silhouettes!

I like a lot of these changes but I have to say, between the pace of player growth and the awesomeness of computer generated players, it's a little too easy this year - I've gone from a 1.5 star team to a 3 star team in just a little over a season, with little effort, and I've got more than a mil in the bank.

I love how when I check the stats at the end, the CPU has passed the ball as many times (at least) as me. In previous versions the most any single CPU player would pass would be 5 or 6, or so it seemed. In the game away to Wigan last night, Mcarthy passed the ball 20+ times with others around the high teens mark.
)

What sliders are you using?

I've yet to find a set of sliders that get the CPU's passing and retaining possession more.

Right now I'm playing with a slightly altered version of those Dave posted at FSB - the biggest difference is that I'm playing with Acceleration at 49.

With these settings, I'm scoring a lot of goals, but I'm also leaking quite a bit too. If I wasn't leaking so many bullshit goals, I'd probably choose to make it harder for myself.

So on the one hand I'm tempted to tweak further for realism's sake; on the other hand I'm having a blast.

@mfmaxpower - I started with those on the sliders thread of this site (Placebos) but I've altered them lots now.

I have semi passing and shooting, manual through ball and crossing and I've also reverted to legacy defending as I'm too old for tactical :)

I'll post them later when I get on the ps3 and come back to you.

It's insane how quickly those over 30 decrease. John Terry has gone down to 74 in one season..needs to be patched.

Well I finished the season and I am starting to think the game has something against me :((

I won the Prem, FA Cup and Euro League with Arsenal as a Pro player.

BUT!.....I got injured and missed the FA Cup final!!! luckily we won 4-0 without me against Sunderland, but it was crap not being able to play.

I got back just in time for the game before the Euro League final against Valencia, which I played well in. Then Wenger decides not to play me in the Euro League final?????!!!!!!!! Motherfucker, saying I wasn't fit enough, this after playing in the penultimate league game and scoring.

So I missed the Euro League final as well, was gutted, luckily Podolski got the winner to make it 2-1 in extra time, so he was the hero and not my VP :((

At least we won. I finished the season with 35 goals overall 21 in the Prem which just gave me the Golden boot with Assaidi with 20.

I met all of my objectives for the season, but that wasn't hard as I was still classed as a young/reserve player that should have gone out on loan.

Although I won the league two cups, it did feel like a challenge and wasn't easy at all. I had 2 FA cup replays and a great FA cup Semi against Spurs which I finally managed to win 3-2 in extra time after having to play with 10 men for the last 50 mins of the match.

The Euro league I played Liverpool, Spurs, Sevilla and Valencia in order to win it and all were tight affairs and I had some really great games.

All in all it was a great season and I had a lot of fun, my VP only increased by 3 points in this second season after going up quite a bit in my first season, so he is on 78 at the moment.

I am now in the squad to play in the World Cup, so I fully expect to reach the World Cup final and be injured/dropped, because this game wants to see me cry for some reason

@mxmfpower, sliders as promised. I'm on my phone so if you don't mind I'll just list them sequentially, User then CPU in brackets where it differs.
48, 49, 52(54) 55(66) 52, 60, 51, 70, 48(44), 85(60, 60, 32(50), 49(50), 60(50) 75(68), 60(68).

Well that's the end of my first season with Plymouth; I finished top of the league with 94 points and a Goal Difference of +46.

Alex Brosque won the Golden Boot, with a tidy 28 goals, as well as being announced as Player of the Season.

Jake Cole was named Goalkeeper of the Season too.

UP TO LEAGUE ONE WE GO! :BOP:

By the way, has anyone noticed that clubs seem to be constantly missing penalties from the in-game updates? I mean, when Martin Tyler passes over to that dude for goal updates, he then says there's been a penatly given... and it always ends up 'and it's been saved!' or 'and he blasts it well over the bar'.

I can't remember the last time i've been updated on a penalty that's actually been scored

Never had that on my game had a few misses but plenty have been scored congrats on your promotion :BOP:

I found this 18 year old striker, 'Biagio Benedetti' on the free agents list. He's got a rating of 71 and a value of £3.3 mil -> Snapped him up on a 4 year contract at £3k/week. He'll have a good resale value at the very least; hopefully he'll be quality though

I also, foolishly, decided to extend Paul Wotton's and Nomvethe's contracts by an additional year (they were about to expire), thinking that I could at least get a bit of cash for them. FALSE, I go to the 'Sell Player Screen' and it tells me that they're both retiring at the end of their contracts and therefore gives me no options at all; I can't even release them :CONFUSE:

Although I did get Lecointe back from loan, so whoever mentioned the bug with loan players not returning (it was mentioned on practically the first page :L) it's not appeared on mine... or at least, not in that direction...
Gorman (on loan from Wolves) and Macdonald (on loan from Burnely... I think) are still hanging around like bad smells... I have like 10 strikers now, I can't get rid of them! :P

Darren Purse confirmed his retirement at the end of last season so I'm also in the hunt for a replacement centre-back.

EDIT:

This is a summary of my transfer dealings so far -

IN:

Benedetti(ST) - Free
Bandalovski(RB) - Free
Areola(GK) - Loan, PSG
Wootton(CB) - Loan, Man Utd
Wabara(CB) - Loan, Man City (with option to buy for 200k)

OUT:

Cole(GK) - 300k (I was offered over twice his value so I had to accept...)
Cowan-Hall(ST) - 140k

Thats why I bought mine for just my PS3 and not both lol Granted i can borrow my sons 360 game but i didnt trust it. I used it once and the assistant manager said about my language towards the officials but I didnt say a single word the entire game :CONFUSE::FAIL:

I'm properly loving this Fifa, especially on World Class.

I just wish I could defend better :/ Take for instance, my first league one game against Yeovil Town. I go 1-0 down inside 10 minutes, I then claw my way back and with 5 minutes to go i'm 2-1 up. Then I end up in a situation where one of my defenders is running alongside the opposing striker who's closing in on my keeper; no matter what I can't seem to push him off the ball. It's not even as if the striker is particularly strong or my defenders are particularly weak :CONFUSE:

But anyway, this keeps happening, time and time again. It's really starting to annoy me to be honest, and I was playing so well up until then and suddenly I lose out on an extra 2 points... :(

Does anybody know any adjustments I could make to the sliders to at least make this 'less constant'? I don't want the game to be too easy, I still would like to concede to keep it realistic.. I just don't want to be caught out at the back, all the time.

Ha ha, woops.

After I simmed and drew, it came up afterwards saying I am back after my 1 game suspension....I totally forgot about that  I got sent off in the FA Cup, but between that I had the two England games and forgot about it :DD.....oh well.

Lol that is something i would have done too so easy mistake

If I was to start a fresh I would go for either;
Swansea city-have a great style of play and are an underdog within the premier league with many areas to develop
Athletic Bilbao-also have a great style of play but have many emerging talents in the likes of muniain and susaeta, get to compete against some of the best teams in the world that play the best football in the world
Rotherham or sheffield united-local teams and no real reason other than this

Not sure if you have tried but at Atletico Bilbao do they have the rule where you can only sign basque players?

Actually nevermind; I'm just going to drop my defensive line back a little bit, see how that goes.

Other than that, and it sounds silly, but maybe look at buying better defenders? I don't know who you have at the minute, but for me, an 82 rated Ogbonna is like a brick wall compared to my 75 rated CB alongside him who tends to make more mistakes and can't push strikers off the ball.

Well i'm currently using Wabara and Blanchard, rated 63 and 68 respectively, as my centre back pairing :L
Although since i'm in League 1 and playing against strikers who are probably only rated at around the low-to-mid 60's anyway, i'm sure it would effectively level out... if you get what I mean?

Thank you. Although you can only see their starting lineups, but that's fine.

I know what you mean.

In regards to seeing who's on their bench, you CAN do that. It doesn't give you a list like it does with the first 11 when you go to Marking, BUT by pressing right stick on their striker so his bio pops up and then pressing down, it goes to next player who is usually the goalie on the bench and if you keep pressing down, you can see all the other players on their squad one by one. Hardly perfect design like you said but it's something I check out every game because I want to see what weapons they have not only in their starting 11 but on their bench and make my decisions based on that.

What personally aggravates me most and I don't understand is why they took out MORALE and FORM bar from the Team Management screen JUST before the game. It's now only shown in the main Team Management screen! Stupid little thing to take out, why? Serves no purpose. Now you just have to check it out there and remember who's high/low morale/form.

Just encountered the infamous disappearing ball glitch against Tranmere in the cup. Thinking it was just a one-off, I simmed the match and moved onto the next game against Coventry. I start up that match and the ball is still missing :CONFUSE:

I looked up a fix and i've found that changing the ball used, in the menus at the start of the match or in 'the hub' of career mode, to anything else other than default, fixes the issue.

In other news, Paraguay offered me their manager job but I turned it down because i'd rather focus on guiding Plymouth to glory at the moment :P

UPDATE: I set the line height to 40 and it's worked pretty well, i'm less of a liability defensively now haha. It's deep enough so that i don't seem to get mauled on the counter as easily, but high enough so i'm not inviting pressure onto myself ;) Mind you this has just been tested in one game against Coventry so it could be a coincidence :P

Speaking of the game against Coventry, I won that 3-0 (I'm happier about the clean sheet than the 3 goals :L). Sarmov scored his 3rd of the season in only our second league game, what started off as a stop-gap signing has turned out to be a beastly signing :D

Benedetti is displaying some really good stuff: good touch, passing etc. He hasn't managed to get on the score sheet yet though (Please don't let him be another Nomvethe!)

And finally, Lecointe scored the 3rd goal of the rout in that match. I'm really pleased with his development, he'd gone up by 3 points before the end of pre-season hahaha; but yeah, that's 8 points improvement since I sent him out on loan to Northampton last season, and he's still only 18. Currently on a rating of 63.

Oh and Brosque is out injured for about 6 more weeks, Bhasera is out for 7 months :(
