FIFA 12 Discussion Thread

BTW what is the point of Ultimate team, I almost thought it was something similar to Master League from PES/WE and I feel like I wasted a lot of time trying to build an awesome team? Is anyone investing their time in this mode?

Well depends, my main interest is buying and selling, making profit and sadly people pay money for the coins in the game so i've made a fairly nice profit, never spend any points on it the whole time i've played it.

Alot people really don't understand how it works. it's better than manager mode personally in the sense its a real market and prices go up and down on daily basis.

yeh I enjoy the career mode more.

I thought ultiamte team was cool at 1st but after a bit realised its pretty crap.

I liek to play head to head online so I can play with various real teams. Cause in career mode its same team every game.

In what way's do you think its crap?

The crossing/heading in this game seriously gets on my balls. It seams 9 out of 10 crosses I put in are intercepted by a CPU defender who is always perfectly positioned, with my player ALWAYS behind and away from the ball. Worse: the CPUs clearing seems to always find an open man in midfield triggering an immediate counter attack which catches my team on the forward move. It has gotten to a point where I consider not using crosses anymore at all because in the end they are of more harm than they do good.

I've managed to pull off a few headers, even the occasional goal (but given the amount of matches I've played, way too few), but even when you actually reach the ball (which is close to never) it doesn't feel right.

Anyone else having problems with this, or am I doing something fundamentally wrong? Playing on semi, btw.

Like I said above

1. I hate the contract system. Every time I win points by plauyihng a game I need to spend the poitn to buy new contract to renew players and gold player contracts are expesnive adn you only get like a few games.
2. I hate the formation/squad setup screens/options...lack of player stats compared to other modes.
3. To many torunaments offline worht points are world class or above difficulty.
4. To many torunaments only allow silver or bronze players which is boring
5. Online competitions are just agaisnt randoms and not really proper tournamntes (though I aint tried much, it just seemed like this)

Sure it aint common to score a header but feels gOod when you do score one though

1. contract system is fair, you need to use your coins wisely, contracts you can get for like 200 which is lowest you pay, the start is always a struggle but it gets easier in time
2. The stats on the cards are just quick summary where if u check in game, it has all the same stats
3. Well it's supposed to be challenging and there are a few below it
4. silver and bronzes are boring? that's the best football, bronzes specifically as it comes down to player skill than using 'big' players
5. It's online so course your gonna get put against randoms, that's how online works.

This is exactly how it is. I do think I have improved my crossing/heading since the start, but definitely not a great deal. However, I do think crossing/heading was too easy in Fifa 11. It doesn't really get on my nerves that much. The CPU's clearing always finding an open man does.

Having the same problems, I've stopped crossing a lot as well and just try and work the ball more. It's frustrating because the defenders ALWAYS seem to get in front of you to win the ball, no matter the situation.

I've been finding that the double-tap cross is quite powerful, if that helps. Sometimes you can fire the ball directly at your teammate with double-tap, giving the defender less opportunity to react.

FIFA 11 was a joke and way too easy to score headers. This is far more of a challenge but in a good way. I don't have any problems winning headers as stated above but getting them on target isn't easy. It's always a feeling of satisfaction scoring a header. Playing on full manual but not sure if that even matters for headers/volleys

get clsoe to byline and triple tap cross often results in a goal or even an own goal by cpu if you get in right area and do it right. At least win a croner.

And is anyone anyone good with corners? I sometimes score them but say I win 30-50%, on target 50% of balls I win, score maybe 10-20% of efforts I win. this is crap.

As for free kick s I suck and fidn them very hard even in training in arena. In pes I was godly at free kicks.

How is that crap? Those stats sound pretty close to normal. Man United (the only team I watch regularly) would be delighted to have that kind of success rate, they've been terrible at set pieces for a while now.

I was just stating my stats i prob off though!!

Id say i score in career mode maybe from corners 5 times per season. so 5 goals in 50 games?

1 corner goal every 10 games? prob same ratio online or worse. Score a corner every 10-20 games.

Id say thats pretty unrealistic? i dont know? do you?

Agree that it was too easy in 11 but now they've turned it too far into the other direction, imo. The other indication that it is a bit off is that the computer has the same problems with headers on attack. I generally manage to clear all of their crosses with the same ease they clear mine (albeit not necessarily with their amazing precision in finding a team mate) and in more than 100 encounters I have yet to see them score from a header.

Maybe manual crossing can fix it for me but since I like to play on broadcast cam I am always having a hard time finding the right relative angle.

In regards to Ultimate Team and the live market place, yeah, I like that concept of placing bids on players. Obviously it fluctuates almost hourly, I just wish there was some way to merge the live bidding concept with a career season. Instead of earning coins, you earn money to actually pay for players' contracts, etc. Besides the live bidding concept though, I don't get much more pleasure from it at the end of the day. I put in all my time initially building a team with great chemistry mixed with bronze, some silver, and a few gold players, but then I simply wanted more than building an imaginary team. I might give it a whirl here and there, but I am completely engrossed with trying to take Aleman Aachen (a team I never hear of before) to Bundesliga glory in my manager career season.

Can anybody help me with stuttering of fifa 12?
I tried everything: dvdoverrider, change of screen_sleep in fifasetup.ini, etc.
I have ATI card which is very problematic (many people have problem with stuttering).
Is there any other solution which can help in 100% ?
Maybe some of you know?

I hate the fact that the CPU never fouls you at 20-35 yards from goal. What's the point of having free kick specialists when you can't use them. I think I'm averaging like 1 free kick on a promising spot in 8 games or so... In Fifa 11 this was definitely better.

That is true.
I played at least few 100s of matches (prof. level) and:
- never saw CPU shooting from outside goal field,
- I was fouled at 20-35 yards like once in few matches,
- when you play with big team against lower class team there are some parts of game where CPU play like every player is messi.
But still this game is incredible for me - i love gameplay and graphics. And I like that it is more than difficult to win.

I still don't see a lack of long shots. I concede them all the time on Pro level. Last night I conceded a shot from about 25 yards. Not miles out but still outside the box. The CPU also hit the post from about 25-30 yards in the same match.

That said, while I have no real specific complaints about the game, I realised last night that it's been over two weeks since I bothered putting the game on. And when I did play it last night, I switched it off during the second match because I was bored. Each game is just feeling the same over and over. My goals always come from moves into the same passing lanes, often resulting in the ball being played to my striker's feet, then turning by rolling off the CB and into the box, before slotting it low into the corner. Kinda predictable :(

I suggest you switch to manual and turn up the shot error then for some variety..if you have already done that then you are obviously very good at the game

LOL I don't think I'll ever get to the stage where I'm good enough for manual!

But it's not the accuracy of passing etc, possession is still turned over pretty realistically, it's the lack of movement from the players. It's either in pre-determined, straight lines or nothing at all. The passing lanes and way the space builds up seems really similar each time. Hope that I'll eventually be able to get some variety out of it but so far it feels very similar from one game to the next, not making me want to play it to be honest. Which is a shame because I still think it's the best FIFA to date :(

I agree thats why I started playing only online.

At least in online there is more variety in the matches, well still similar but human play less predicatable than CPU so can be more fun.

I like my career mode but every game was just feeling same thing over and over.

I never felt like this in old pes I wodner wha the difference is technically?

LTFC, try ramming up the run frequency slider to 75/80. Makes a whole lot of difference. Not sure whether it's just me or that I dont get to play it often enough, but there is a whole lot of randomness in my games. Just like ps2 pes games.

Yeah the key is the sliders although I see little difference for manual passing with the sliders at 0 or the default.

If you are using semi passing you need to ramp up the slider difficulty to 68-75. The ball tends to get a bit bouncy at 75 though.

As far as runs go I find some teams run with the slider at 0 but you'll for sure get a bunch with the slider set way up. You gotta be quick with the pass though or it will be a definite offsides.

You should also check your players, for me Downing will always hang back and want to receive a pass before doing much, whereas Suarez will run into space. It could also be down to creating a good mix in your squad with players that have different traits.

I've recently been using Downing as a AM which seems to be a bit better for him, and instead using my new LW's out wide. Same thing happens if I put Henderson in AM, he is far more likely to move backwards to make himself available whereas Gerrard will sprint forward. Tbh I find that with most of the players that when you know how they "play" the matches become far more organic as you are using their personalities to your advantage.

Same thing with my strikers, which I mentioned in my latest update in the CM thread.

I think the key is changing your player style during a match, sometimes I'm doing very fast attackes, but then I'll notice a lack of control during a match and will slow it right down and play possesion, even making player stand still to let my teammates move into space.

Ofcourse they really need to improve the opponent AI for the next version as that should really help combat any generic feelings.

Which mode are you playing? I did a few exhibition matches with Gladbach vs Cologne and Podolski was hammering it from all angles.

In Career Mode, however, I never see the CPU try from outside the box.

Exhibition matches generally feel more organic and realistic with lots of random struggles for position in midfield and through balls that don't stick with an opposing defender like a magnet. Ball feels more like a separate entity. In any of the tournament modes I have the feeling that gameplay is somewhat more restricted and one-dimensional. Could be in my head, though..
