FIFA 12 Discussion Thread

I am having a hell of a time with tactical defending when I am in my last 3rd of the field. The CPU attacks and usually seems to be able to cut back or get my guy to over commit, even if I am holding down L2 so that I can change direction easier. This normally forces me to try to switch to another defender, ultimately leaving another attacker open.

Another example of the CPU getting the better of me is when I try to get a second defender to assist to easily close down an attacker for the easy steal or to contain him, I mess it up somehow or the the defender doesn't react in time.

Some games for me are better than others. These are the things I noticed I usually get beat on, any suggestions for how to handle tactical defending in these cases?

I have had a few games where I did pretty well, emphasis on few though.

When I am playing solid defense, the CPU does end up attempting shots from outside the box. I feel like the attacks are varied, along with the shots, depending on how well I am playing at defense.

Played Barce and Madrid as Osasuna when I was testing my sliders and they definitely were cracking some shots at me on goal...

I am loving football gaming again! Which has been awhile for me since the last one I enjoyed was Winning Eleven 9 (Jap).

You tried Legendary with the CPU slider up from the default setting? Since I did not buy PES this year although I did play both demos I cannot speak about the game but TBH I cannot handle the graphics and animations to say nothing about the commentary.

I play online 95% of the time which sadly means all sliders are at 50 :(

I'm not great at defending but usually keep the opponent to 1 goal in 15 minute matches. Usually play Legendary sometimes WC mostly Legendary though. I use a combination of TD and sprint jockey. I get beat though. What do you have CPU Shot Error set at?

Briefly tried going up to World Class but I just can't do it, the CPU destroys me! Three matches last night yielded no goals and nine conceded. I concede I'm shit at the game, but I guess it's a very good thing it's so hard. On FIFA11 world class I never went beyond season one in CM because I didn't lose a single match all season. I drew alot due to the CPU parking the bus, much like PES this year, but FIFA12 is so much more attacking. But I've definitely found my level!

Play against Lampard and Silva. They'll rain shots from anywhere.

Silva scored a belter against me last night from outside the box.

Im sure it's down to the new defending system, while im a fan of it i think it's a tad too complicated for it's own good either that or the AI is not good enough on your own team. Online im finding just about every goal comes from poor defending due to the new system.

I seem to do best on dymanic zoomed fully out. It gives me better close control due to the close up view and also and I can see shots and the goal better.

however it is bad for long range passes and knowing what is going on further up the picth

I've been playing Dynamic now at 16-4 the graphics are outstanding. Long passes and lobs are a chore on manual because you have to rely solely on radar since the players aren't visible. I've been loathe to do this cause it's kinda like cheating for me anyway but put lobs on assisted. This will definitely help you out. The passes won't be perfect which is actually nice but you won't miss the player by 10-20 yards either. It's a decent workaround if you don't mind cheating a little.

I have it set at default, I might have raised them to 55, but I am pretty sure they are default. I noticed the CPU was missing ridiculous shots with Barca when I went any higher... I am not "horrible" as well seeing as I typically will lose my match by 1 most of the time. I feel like I have to simply hold the contain button since the cut backs are way to effective. I at least will fake the cross or shot to catch the CPU or oppenents off-guard, the CPU just cuts back and gets away with it more often than I can.

I had HORRIBLE games today though, I was getting so pissed at myself for losing several games 1-0 to people online simply because I have my passing set on sem and shots on semi, and I notice I have more errant passes or miss open shots when my opponent does not lose the ball nearly as often... then played the CPU, pissed, and lost those games. LOL

I obviously needed to simmer down...

The thing to remember this year is that teams are more individual via custom tactics.

I made the mistake of trying to alter custom tactcis like i did in 11 to make the cpu shoot more long range and it just doesnt work.

The solution lies in the fact that default custom tactics are no longer all just set to 50/50/50 like they were in the last two versions, EA have gone out of their way to create teams tactics that reflect the way they play.

So Fulham will use the wings, with Duff and Dempsey and the predator instincts of Zamora for headers and close finishes. Occasionally Danny Murphy or Dembele will have a pop outside the area.

Whereas someone like Bolton wont hardly shoot from distance because only Petrov is known for hitting the odd long ranger. Teams play to their strengths in this game.

The only suggestion i can make for long range shooting is to alter the long range shooting stats for certain players in certain teams, that usually works.

So for example, if you want Bolton to hit a few more shots, alter Klasnic and Holdens shooting power stats, and they are more inclined to have a pop.

Ive seen lots of long range strikes (someone from Aldershot scored one against me after i edited his stats) and ive seen plenty of headers too (yesterday Maynard of Bristol and Goodwillie of Blackburn).

They are in there.

I really, really applaud EA this year for this game. Great game!

This game has been taking up all of my spare time on top of other great games such as: Battlefield 3, COD:MW3, PES12, Uncharted 3, and NBA 2K12.

I love the graphics, the different style goals/nets for South American teams, ball physics, collision system, shooting, passing, Heading, defending, atmosphere, sound, and Animations!

What a great way to end the year in sports gaming.

I have yet to go online in fear of it not being that great. We'll see tonight.

What nets mate? you mean like the ones they had in last year?

Some time ago I posted negative opinion about F12. I play on prof. level (from begening - I wanted to start on high level), I dont change anything (sliders, assists, ...). I lost a lot of games (30-40 matches) even playing Barca-Osasuna (many times it was like 0-2, 1-2). I was totally dissapointed with this game, especially because I was good in old PES games. I left it and said: this is fu**ed up game.
Few days ago I decided to start again and told myself: I would play and learn how to win, even if it is impossible. Today, after few 100s of hours I am on good level, I can win playing good team against lower class team like 3-0, 4-0. The game is mirracle for me now - because before I loved graphic, sound, gameplay - everyting despite losing. Now everything is great for me. I think many people can be disappointed with this game because of loosing. And most of you change sliders - which is for me most stupid thing - this is cheating this is changing game this is something stupid and this is done by poeple who are weak - want to win right now!!!!
I tell you this: if you change anything in this game you kill it - it means that you are weak and you will never be good in this game.
The only thing to love this game is to play it, losing, learn and than be good after 100s of hours playing. Even new defending system - dont say this is s**t - just play learn and wait - after many hours you will be good in it.
Tread about changing sliders is most stupid thing I've ever seen.

Thank you for reading and I dont care what is your opinion about above.

Around when FIFA10 came out there was a website with all the custom tactics for the Prem teams, is this still around but updated? I tried google but I cant find anything.

How do you do acrobat volleys/overheads?

Is it L2 and shoot or R2 and shoot?

How do you NOT do it so your defender will not try it on a 50/50 ball when you really just want to clear the ball from the attacker trying to score from a corner or crossed in ball...

Saw this happen several times, my defender misses the ball and BAM, their attacker scores the header.

BTW what is the point of Ultimate team, I almost thought it was something similar to Master League from PES/WE and I feel like I wasted a lot of time trying to build an awesome team? Is anyone investing their time in this mode?

I dont like it due to

A. the contract system, buying cards etc..
B. The torunamtens, many offline are world class+ and online just not well done.
C. Formations, player squad setup etc...to arcadey and weird.

Yeah, it's a waste of time, after I spent time building a team with good chemistry, I realized that there really is nothing to do except play tournaments, earn money so that you can extend contracts, and play tournaments, oh, and play tournaments online... did I mention play tournaments?

It's all good though, I am having a ball in my current season manager mode. Not sure when the current transfer system was implemented into Fifa, but it is fantastic and makes it feel a lot more realistic. LOVE IT!

yeh I enjoy the career mode more.

I thought ultiamte team was cool at 1st but after a bit realised its pretty crap.

I liek to play head to head online so I can play with various real teams. Cause in career mode its same team every game.
