Anybody have any tips on penalties?

They are ridiculous, If I just get it off centre on the bar, and barely press to one side it flies off! it's really ridiculous, I must be missing something?.....apart from the net ;))

Someone told me this earlier, after you have pressed the shoot button, hold the LS in the direction you want and count to four. It has worked out fine for me, haven't missed a penalty since :)

And if you let the power bar fill up to 3/4 then you'll hit a hard shot making it even harder for the keeper to stop it. ;)

Yeah penalties are actually pretty cool I have to say. Definitely frustrating at first but once you get hang of it, you appreciate just how much skill it takes. I like the way it's set up now and how there are a few different things to take into account.

Remember the penalties in old videogames? lol, just hold a direction and press 'shoot' lol

Since discovering the differences between the way players behave due to stats I'd never really checked (like their natural attack/defence levels etc) I'm loving this game so much. Player personality is really noticeable. Playing an entire season with Newcastle then signing a bunch of talented youngsters has seen a radical change in the 'feel' of my team. Player stamina is more of an issue due to youngsters it being as physically strong, but their positional play us far better than those they replaced. You really can tell the difference. And with pass error increased, signing technically more gifted players ensures their passes are hit 'cleaner', meaning if they're involved in an attack then the whole passing move is smoother and more deadly to the opposition. Love it.

The only thing I think needs badly addressing is ball control and first touch, if they can make that more pronounced then they're almost there. Maybe future sliders could be the answer to appeal to everyone's tastes. Perhaps first touch and ball control error slider would help distinguish the more technically gifted from the lesser players. Similarly, all they need are pressing and stamina sliders and it'll be awesome. These slider settings can help bring out bigger differences between players, as it does right now with pass error etc.

If a stamina slider is used then those midfield workhorses could end up being more invaluable because they'll simply last far longer than weaker or more explosive players if the stamina 'usage' slider was increased for example.

Hope they do that next year.

In regards to stamina, it seems the only way to get a good rotation going with your squad is if you are playing in all the tournaments, i.e. the league obviously, the domestic cup and a european cup. This obviously makes sense, but besides bad injuries, you never really have to rotate your players too often. I have not watched enough football to see how realistic that is, but I would think there is more active rotations occurring with the amount of players available to play.

I always end up loaning out players if they are not being used or simply trying to raise their value so I can simply sell them come transfer periods.

I am ruthless, I know.

Unfortunately the only way to replicate stamina is to play 20 minute games. I've played quite a few you'd be surprised how many players are tired near the 70 minute mark when you ramp the time up to the max.

Surly that's totally unrealistic? Players these days are not really that tired until very close to the end of the game, it's not the 1980's anymore players are super fit now even in the lower leagues.

I would really like first touch adjusted as well. Too often I see my defenders just stop the ball in place, or a young winger have a perfect first touch. The only time I see bad first touches are in situations where there shouldn't be, like a slow pass from a few feet away, etc. Kind of annoying, but I am liking the game and career mode. I haven't brought my VP in any because it seems to change the way I play, although I thought about making him a LB/RB since I don't have those skills.

Not totally shot but most if not all are on yellow. Their pace is definitely quite a bit slower once you play past 80 minutes.

Can someone tell me the gfx diff between pc and PS3.

I play at 1080p full details on PC

BUT my freinds all play on ps3 so I was gonna pick up ps3 copy. But Im not sure how it will look compared to my pc version? pretty poor? it prob runs at 720p with low detail right?

35.00 for 2nd copy for only online gaming is a bit steep

I was getting sick of Fifa 12 again; even with some good sliders it was still a bit too gamey for my taste. I thought I'd give Fidel's Gameplay Patch a try and it's fantastic. It's hard to pin down exactly what's changed but the ball feels a bit weightier (shots and passes feel less floaty), the AI seems to be more inventive on the attack and harder to break down on defense, and I think he's managed to introduce a better sense of inertia/momentum. If you're on pc I highly recommend it if you're starting to tire of the original gameplay!

Edit: And the AI actually keeps possession! Right now at the start of the second half Stade Rennais have had 60% to my 40%!

Edit2: Not to belabour the point, but I've had more "Wow! How realistic!" moments in the 5 or so games with this patch than from the rest of the 2(?) months that 12 has been out.

After playing Skyrim and Batman Arkham Asylum on the PC for the last few weeks, and not playing FIFA since early November, I decided to have a quick game of FIFA last night.

The graphics seemed pretty awful, almost like an XBox 1 in comparison! Models seemed to lack hardly any detail, despite having details to maximum etc, and it just seemed unbelievably plain. Pretty surprising because I remember being quite impressed by the graphics until I took a break from it.

Moral of the story? Don't play Skyrim or Batman and then play FIFA straight after it!

Actually, are there any mods for the PC version to improve textures or anything? PES has tons of mods to improve the level of detail, does anything exist for FIFA?

hm i think the graphics are top notch and i have both the other games too way better that the xbox..I have the LOD patch running and also a turf patch..head over to soccergaming there are loads of patches floating about

Ihave those games too and I think FIFA12 holds up okay. In particular player faces look really good up close. They're on a par with any of the sports titles I've seen.

But in gameplay terms I think this generally gets a bad rep from people. The gameplay is spot on (with a tiny bit of tweaking). I beat and dominate teams I should, but play the really top sides and I get pinned back, struggle to keep the ball, and the CPU keeps more possession. The AI is a huge leap over previous games and IMO the CPU offers a far more realistic game than anything yet. Gameplay feels balanced yet tough, sometimes the CPU caves in and you run riot, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes you take a thrashing. It's nicely unpredictable which is streets ahead of previous FIFA titles and streets ahead of the terrible was the AI behaves in PES. I really hope EA choose to build on this version now.

Top teams are so dangerous, it's great playing them away from home in CM. I manfully held out away to Liverpool for 75 minutes or so only for Gerrard to smack in a screamer from 30 yards when I double pressed a player leaving Gerrard in too much space when he controlled the resulting pass. Felt so realistic. And the awful overly physical, constant sprinting side of the game has been totally eradicated. With the help of the close control button you can use it in so many different ways to keep the ball.

I agree. This is the first footie game I don't get tired of at all. They did a really nice job this year hopefully they can add a few more sliders and tweak the Impact Engine.

just installed played 1 game and put all sliders to 50.

To early to review but the ball feels much heavier, Short passes seem to go kinda slow. Shots have to be controlled much more by player as harder to get on target which is a good thing I think.

CPU played quite inventive and some nice indiviual player skills and team work.

Only 1 game though so need to try more.

I tried it both with all sliders set to 50 and with the sliders I was already using and I preferred it with the sliders I had before.

Just run it and point it to your Fifa 12 directory. I'm not quite sure how it works on this version, he's just gone and edited some of the files. In the past versions all the gameplay info was stored in text files that you could edit.

The main changes I've noticed are that the AI defense is a better and the AI offense is more varied. The ball is also heavier which means less floaty shots and passes.
