FIFA 12 Discussion Thread

I tend to play where I'll give the ball to my striker having his back to goal and hold it up until another player comes up for support. Works really well. Patient football seems to work well in this, which is great.

That's a smart way to play it. Dink it up and hold or give it back to where it came from.

Use the flick stick with Becchio, I actually flicked the ball backwards over both of our heads into the box where I turned and was brought down for a penalty. Haven't been able to replicate it though.

Example - back to goal with ball coming to my feet - held the flick stick opposite the way I faced and did a rainbow flick type thing.

how many you guys use jockey or contain.

even on the tactical defening I play like legacy

I use r1 to get teammate to help, square to stand tackle, 0 to slide tackle.

Really its the same as legacy defending expect r1 is square and sqaure is x, you can change buttosn if you want....just never use contain and its the same as legacy.

Jockey, i use now and then.

I still use legacy defending because i prefer my defenders to get tighter to the players. I think it is similar to 'tactical' defending but without the 'force field' around the player. In previous Fifa's it was easy to win the ball by charging into them but on this one it seems harder because if you send your player into them they tend to skip past them or pass to someone else.

So i think the attackers act the same way on legacy, they pass around to find another route to goal unless you cut the pass out or tackle them.

I knew praising FIFA 12 was too good to be true. It's absolute bullshit.

Sick and tired of playing teams in CM who zip the ball around perfectly, despite having pass error set to 80. Doesn't make any difference. Just had Bolton stroking it around like Barcelona with no misplaced passes I could see. Just like FIFA11 every clearance magically falls to the one AI player still up the pitch. And every time the AI gets within 25 yards and shoots, it goes in almost without fail. Fucking pathetically robotic game mechanics if ever I saw them.

Like FIFA11, the game plays great in friendly matches. Everything's balanced, evenly paced etc. Then go into a CM game and the AI ramps up the exploits to ridiculous levels.

Oh, and every single time I score the AI magically scores within 20-30 seconds. I just equalised in the 90th minute, then lost thanks to the most farcically scripted goal I've ever seen almost straight from the kick off.

Even using sliders, the games in CM play at 100mph, the AI never misplaces a pass, scores from almost every long range shot it ever takes, smashes though your players at 100mph just as in previous FIFA's, telepathically reads your passes, it's pathetic. I guess the only way to beat it is to find an exploit and do it over and over, because the game, frankly, cheats. Players can dribble and turn at crazy ass speeds, but turn down the acceleration on the sliders and you find that once to go past a certain point, players don't try to tackle you anymore. It's a broken mess of a game again.

It's because there are again too FIFA's in one game! ;)

There's the balanced, great game you play when you do a friendly exhibition match, and there's the scripted, ramped up, hyper, precision-perfect, man-hulk AI in Career Mode.

It made me sell FIFA11 because I couldn't be arsed playing an offline mode that spends all it's time working exploits against you, and it's doing it again in this. Suppose it'll teach me not to buy into EA's bullshit again. I thought sliders might be able to do something this year, but fuck me, Bolton Wanderers, in the December rain, with pass error set to 80, and they were spraying it around like Barcelona with nearly 90% pass accuracy. I never saw them misplace one pass.

It's not fun when you have an attack from a corner, the AI scrambles a wild clearance while facing their own goal, 60 yards in the opposite direction, and it falls directly to a massive striker's foot. You then go to challenge him with two defenders, who BOTH bounce off his apparent hulk like frame, he runs in on goal unopposed, and lashes it in from 25 yards. Realistic.

We should be cautious about saying any game 'is' objectively this or that, IMO.

The CM I'm playing is a wonderful, measured game of football played at the perfect slow pace.

Every match is a delight to play. I play 10-minute matches. Most common scoreline is still 1-0/0-1/1-1/2-1 etc. I've sussed Tactical Defending and sometimes achieve total shutouts of the CPU, i.e. not even allowing it any possession in or around my box, never mind a shot on goal.

I've got CPU passes going astray at just the right proportion. I often see the animation for CPU players, hands spread wide, saying to their teammates "WTF was that?" as the ball bounces past them.

I'm playing on Professional difficulty, with only 3 sliders tweaked. CPU passing error on 55. CPU sprint & accel on 48 and 47 respectively. Nothing else.

I suspect you're playing on World Class or higher and that's got a lot to do with the problems you're having. Why not come down to Professional and have a fiddle with the sliders.

I suggest you set the difficulty level to professional. It is a lot more realistic and fun at this level in the demo at least.

I hate world class and I hate to see Tevez heading to the touch line just to make a 180 degree lob pass to a team mate and perfectly delivers it.

Disagree completely. I'm having different games every match in my CM mode, depending on players, tiredness, form, morale and the big players being out.

Kev is usually the biggest critique and moaner going when something is not right.

to be fair to him he plays the game as proper football so for him not to be moaning yet something must be right

watch this space though......

haha

Yeah I'm gonna try it on Professional from now on, and if that gets too easy, maybe make the sliders work a little against me to increase the difficulty. But I just can't be doing with the game on World Class or above. The AI plays like it's on speed. Like I said, pinpoint passing regardless of pass error, clearances falling to people's feet etc, bizarre accuracy with long range shots etc. I remember loving this game when I first started it, and that was on Professional so I'll give that another go with my CM.

Playing on World Class, I can't find a way of slowing down the AI. Altering player acceleration and sprint speed beyond any lower than 47 seems to screw the AI and it no longer tries to tackle if you slow dribble at a certain distance, meaning you can walk it into the penalty area, and the way it plays is quick passing, sprint, sprint, all the frickin' time. The AI plays like it's a goal down in the 90th minute all through the game, feels like I'm playing a robot.

So yeah, Professional may be the best option. Quite a number of people on here seem to be enjoying their CM a lot more on this difficulty.

Professional with tuned sliders is definitely the way to go for me right now, I'm still tweaking a little here and there, 48/48 for acceleration currently, 99/99 for injury occurrence and 50/60 for severity, more important I'm currently testing the marking and runs ones, trying to make it a tighter match in terms of marking with more movement so I think I'm at something like 80/80 for marking and 85/85 for runs, with defense lines at 45/45 so that you very rarely get 1v1 with the keeper except for true counter attacks (eg a corner breaks down or late in the game and one team is chasing the match), slider settings are working pretty well :)

I've asked this before, but got no help so try again.

I've got replays saved to hd (ps3) and when I go to the replay theatre to watch them, it says "you must be the lead profile to view replays, please set a lead profile in MY FIFA -> PROFILES"

Something like that. But I only have one profile and going into the profiles section it shows the one profile and says it it the lead one. There is also no option to do anything in that screen (I.e. set a lead profile etc).

Really frustrating :(

Hi pboreham,

I am having the exact same issue as you mate and was wondering if you managed to solve it? It's really frustrating I can't access my saved replays!

Thanks mate I think I'll copy your slider settings and see how that goes. I need something to change for the game, I barely get a single point in my CM on World Class, then my first game back down on Professional and I win 2-0 away to Liverpool :CONFUSE:

Need to find a decent medium between the two really.

Also Placebo what camera do you use?

Any one else go through spells where they hit the post constantly? I only play Pro Clubs, but I've gone through periods where I'll hit the post three times in one half. I mean honestly, when is that ever going to happen? Especially more than once?

Hey LT, do you play with any assists on? I play on full manual controls on professional level using JDM's slider settings and you get a very well balanced game. I think playing on world class difficulty with full manual controls is almost unbeatable, but on pro level the balance is just about right and with some slider tweaks can be refined even further.
Even semi-pro level gives a good game if you play as a weak/middle ranking side, but I feel there is just too much of a gap between semi-pro and pro levels.

Guys this game is so funny total love-hate with this game now i love it again.

Well anyway I statred a career mode on pro with leeds and is the best thing I have done to improve the game.

Due to poor stats and skill off leeds players in general I have had to learn basics off game to win matches. I played loadsa games with leeds many 1-0, 0-0, 2-1 the odd 4-1 etc...but learned about mainly;

Using L1...precision dribble which is really essential in this game. You really need to take note off this and experiment with it. For beating players, 1st touch and making space for shots its essential.

Defending.

Patterns of movemnt to lead to goals

Use of R1+long ball, drilled low long balls.

With minimal skill players with Leeds I started mastering the basics.

Ok I never realised I was improving it just happened naturally.

SO Online I was doing really bad every game a few days ago and have only played single player since then.

Well I tried online and went Portugal. OMG!!! after playing with Leeds it was like I went from San Marino to BRazil, the players were fast, amazing skills, close control, precise long range shots etc..etc..I was on fire...scorign goal after goal after goal, 6-1, 5-3, 4-2 etc...It was like I was reborn.

What had happened was i Mastered the basics of gameplay with unskilled players then once I went Portugal I had all these skill players now being used to have to perform with no skill then add all this skill on top I was playing the basics + extras+ advanced gameplay and dominating.

all those failed dribbles with leeds were now 100% succsess, all those near miss long rangers were now screaming into top corner, all those 1v1 skil moves were skinning the opponent. Its hard to explain its liek I was just reborn lol

I hope this makes sense lol.

Basically what im saying is master the game by going a weak team against cpu.

Yea sorted it, bizarrely it was the controller ID. Change it to controller 1 and it should let you in. Stupid ps3!!

Occasionally i get that, also to add, anyone think the post sounds are disappointing? Sounds like a plastic football hitting an equally plastic hollow post. Rubbish, PES has fantastic sounds effects, like goal post's and hitting the advertising hoardings.

Basically, whats something that EA never update or alter presentation wise, that really bother you?

I'd agree in principal but the players still move and turn too fast, it's really bugging me. So many things about this game are fantastic but this issue's putting me right off the game. I can't even lower their acceleration to a satisfactory level (for me anyways!) because this strange 'lack of AI tackling' issue kicks in. Not sure if it's a bug. I think it probably is though.

Biggest problem im having is i cant score to save my life! Even playing with Arsenal, im still struggling!
Ive played 7 games in Career so far (world Class), ive drawn 5 and won 2.. The ones ive won were 1-0 and the draws were all 0-0 apart from a 1-1 against spurs.. Im not having a problem conceding but i just cant score which was never a problem on the previous Fifas..
Idk, maybe it will click soon.. Seems to be ablot harder on Semi shooting than last years anyways. Apart from that, a very solid game.. Sliders are a joy to have!!

I'm scoring a normal amount on semi/pro but am finding the goalies really good at 1-on-1's. I'm not sure what it is, a medium power shot will be stopped, but a somewhat daisy cutter from a little more out will manage to sneak into the corner.

So the latest challenge is to get a point for Portugal v Denmark? I drew 2-2 but didn't get any XP or have the challenge marked as completed. Annoying.

I was swearing at the tv last night. I got promoted to division 8 in H2H but everyone was using Real Madrid/Barca after that and every tackle leads to a deflection into the path of one of their stars. So frustrating.

I just stated whacking in own goals until the match was over . I mean I totally outplayed people and they'd walk past me with the hulking defenders stripping me of the ball with ease. I must be missing a trick.
