FIFA 12 Discussion Thread

More playing time yesterday and I think it's safe to say that the full game of FIFA has won me over. I'm finding I much prefer to play FIFA than PES when given the chance, and I'm enjoying games so much more.

My CM with Tranmere has been so much fun and I'm experiencing more exciting moments already than I can remember having in PES for a long time (and I really enjoyed PES 2011). For a start, scoring goals just feels so much more rewarding. In PES, I'd score and I wouldn't tend to feel any sense of reward. In FIFA, I'm always a little out of my seat each time I score.

Really enjoying it.

LTFC,

Try giving manual controls a go mate, once you get past the initial shock and stick with it it's far more rewarding than playing with assists. I would also suggest that playing with manual controls is easier than in previous years, main reason being that you get more time on the ball due to the tactical defending.
Played a few H2H games online last night using manual controls, and I think my opponent was as well, and they were easily the best games i've ever had on any football game (I go waaaaaay back to Match Day on the speccy)
As an introduction to using manual controls, start by adjusting one setting at a time to manual starting with the shooting, leaving short passing til last.

Cheers

To be honest, apart from the fact that I'm awful at manual, I don't like it very much because I feel it removes a lot of the passing skill of the player on the ball. I could do the same pass with John Terry as I could Iniesta for example. I really like stats to have a heavy bearing on what I can and can't do with the relevant player.

Also, i feel as playing on fully manual against the A.I is pretty futile, as The A.I doesn't, and doesn't HAVE to play on fully manual either, yes you can reduce thier passing and shot accuracy, but thats it. Playing against the CPU like this can be pretty hopeless especially when your lousy at manual anyway, having said that, it is far more enjoyable playing manual against friends, with longer match time.

IMO it's the extra things that full manual lets me to do such as playing the ball into space as well as the challenge. Once you get good at it then it improves the game and the sense of reward ten fold. the stat thing still plays a part, more so this year and no matter how good you are you will see differences in crossing , shooting etc

I think semi for stuff that has an assisted option and manual for stuff that doesn't have semi (throughballs and long balls) is a good mix, plenty of misplaced passes with bad players and good passes with good players (when players are in form) when using pass error of around 70-75

I felt really underwhelmed when scoring in PES (11 and the first demo). I used to be out of my seat, but to me the balance between the stats and your actual aiming/timing seems to far away from each other meaning I would try the same shot twice and once it would go horrible wide....and the next time it would be top corner. Felt too random to me. Playing semi on FIFA and it seems more manual than last year as I'm really having difficulty. Scored a diagonal shot yesterday with Suarez from the edge of the area that went in off the post and it made me feel great. A bit; "Ooh, that could have so easily gone wide, get in!"

I seem to be struggling to score goals that aren't along the ground really. I guess that's from playing PES and doing short taps of the shot button although I did score a "screamer" which went into the top corner yesterday and had me out of my seat :)

But it's so easy for shots to go wide using semi shooting and scoring just feels great on this. I think I point to the corner way too much, again a habit from PES, so when I started FIFA I'd be smashing shots miles wide. Now I've learnt to aim more towards the middle with a very slight variation and I'm hitting the target a lot more.

Certainly scoring a lot more than I used to, where my first 4-5 games were probably 0-0 or 1-0's but now I'm getting 3-0 and 3-1 more often.

Can't wait to play some more tonight.

So far so good after 2 weeks. Looks like 12 is a keeper. 10 I was bored within 2 weeks, 11 within 2 days ( although I did manage to find a formation and setting that made it somewhat interesting to play a month later). But I look forward to playing every day now which is quite an achievement imo. Obviously the AI still needs serious work, but the extra character created in CM is very welcome.

According to EA this is what the fixes are:

-Fixed a memory leak that would cause Origin to crash.

-Fixes to our installation and updating systems.

-Fixed an install issue that was forcing users to download all language packs.

-Goalkeeper control in online matches: We asked for your feedback and we got lots of it. After reviewing that and our own telemetry, we decided that enough people were abusing this feature online to negatively affect the experience of the majority. So we have decided to remove the ability to press Back/Select and play as the goalkeeper, allowing the CPU to defend, in all online matches. The function remains available in offline matches.

-Fixed a situation that would see the user in an empty FUT Store without button functionality.

-Fixed a FUT crash when using custom tactics.

-Fixed a hard lock that would occur when applying a Manager Contract after purchasing a Bronze Premium Pack in FUT.

-Fixed a situation that would see some users being disconnected from FUT after five seconds of connectivity.-

-We have optimized the FUT server to speed up transactions

I wonder if they've fixed the PC servers so I can actually send my stats over without constantly getting errors saying to try again later.

I've started to get fouled by the CPU, but it's only when I close the close control button. It definately needs to foul more and it's annoying that it doesn't but it's not a massive issue for me personally.

I seem to be getting more fouls using my sliders on legendary mode. Tweaked The AI acceleration slightly lower and made the marking tighter . They seem to dive in a little more..could be in my head tho

Hi, I ve bought it now but ingame there I ve a lot of stuttering and many lags. I use ATI graphic card and my PC is good enough to play PES 12 on all high. I also play mostly offline.
What to do now?

Speaking of AI fouling... has anyone actually seen the AI slide tackle? All my fouls or ai tackles seem to be from standing challenges.

Yep I win my share of fouls and penalties but they're always from bodily contact (barges etc) or standing tackles. That said I'll upload a video later for a laugh, the AI did a superb sliding foul with Colccini that would have bordered on GBH :). Took poor Theo Walcott on a magical mystery tour of Coloccinis mid drift.....

interestign I cant recall since the days off up to pes5 a game were id get off my seat and go crazy due to my goals.

I mean back in old pes days we used to save our best goals to mem card and go round our mates and comapre goals.....

Soem goals were amazing. I recall scoring goals back in pes3-5 etc..and literally runing aroudn the room with mates and screaming the gaosl were so breathtaking. You just feel euphoric lol.

I really have not felt that way since then. though in fifa 11-12 I have had some scremers that have sent me roaring down the headset to my online buddies.

Anyone scoring ANY chip shot goals?

Used to be TOO easy and the most common way to score in FIFA11 and now it seems they've taken it to the other extreme! Nowadays I don't even try because I have a much better chance of scoring wit ha placed (finesse shot) or even going past keeper if he commits, when I do the chip shot, the keeper never seems to fall for it and still jumps high up enough to get fingertips on it....

Anybody scoring chip shots?

You must be talking about pc version for chip shots, as for consoles, last year was harder to score chip shots than it is now

Nop talking about xbox360.

Scored chip shots all the time last year and this year they seem far harder and almost impossible to score for me.

I like that they are harder than last year (because it was often too easy and the easiest way to score in 1-on-1's) but it shouldn't be this difficult. It's almost like the goalie in one on one's expects it now and so doesn't dive or get down and instead jumps up and gets fingertips on it if not fully catch it.

The pc version is virtually the same this year, so it shouldn't matter.

I agree with those who find it harder than ever before. It used to be a piece of cake in 10 and 11, but now it's damn near impossible to pull them off successfully. Which still doesn't keep me from trying and failing, though :CONFUSE:

(manual settings, of course)
