Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

I'm having the same problem with World Class/Legendary. World Class is a bit too easy with Placebo's sliders but with Legendary you have to be 100% concentrated all the time, which is hard when I'm playing to relax after a long day!

Edit: After tweaking my tactic to make it a bit tighter at the back Legendary seems manageable.

If you edit a player's stats, will they cease to grow in career mode?

If you increase their overall by much (3-4 points) for some reason it seems to interrupt the "baked in" growth curve, I mentioned some time ago I edited the 20 year old Gary Madine at Wednesday from something like 62 to a more appropriate 65/66 and he didn't improve a single point for about 4-5 seasons, finally started growing slowly and stopped at 69.

One thing I've noticed that seems to be handy to kick some growth back into action for a player is to send them out on loan, even if only a short term loan, basically anyone outside my first 18 that I don't want to sell I put up for short loan each window, that way they get some "football", get some growth, and just as importantly don't get poor morale from not playing. And the good thing is being a short loan if you need them back due to injuries/suspension it only costs something like 20k to cancel the loan.

Why not still put them up for a 'season loan' even if it's in January window though?

Assuming they are guys that can't get in your team right now and you want them to get 'football', that way they'll get more like 5 months of it, the whole 2nd half of season left. No? That's what I do.

As enjoyable as my current CM is the allure of updated squad files is just too much and I'm about to start my new CM, with a VP this time (17 year old academy prospect from Wednesday), just downloading some custom leagues to add in as well to see how well they work, so far added Czech, Turkish, Blue Square Premier, Greek and Hungarian leagues :)

Starting a new CM with the updated squads is tempting.. Notice that my beloved Monaco have quite a nice transfer budget after their recent takeover - might be fun to take them back to the big time!

~

However I am really enjoying my current career so wonder if I should stick with it, presume this new patch has only changed ratings, not affected growth or transfer frequency?

Anyway I'm currently with FC Metz playing on World Class and everything on Manual (which is a near perfect Fifa experience IMO)

When I do a manager mode I like to set myself up with a little scenario to set the scene.
In FC Metz's case, Louis Saha returned to the club where he began his original career as player manager, and with the financial backing of a local businessman and fan providing a transfer kitty of £20M, was tasked with leading the club to glory!

Won Ligue 2 easily and in January of season 2 we are currently hovering around the champions league stages of Ligue 1 although I think we are punching above our weight with lots of last minute goals to keep us in the hunt.

My squad is currently:

- - - - - - - - - - Delle (74) - - - - - - - - - - -

Gassama (71) Baker (69) Sane (75) Tamboura (68)

- - - - - - Jean (78) - - - Flamini (77) - - - - - -

- - Tafer (71) - - Diaby (78) - - Grenier (75) - -

- - - - - - - - - Stoker (VP/80) - - - - - - - - -

Tried to shape the squad with a mixture of mainly french youngsters and cast offs (am a sucker for proper player faces). Main purchase with my promotion money was the purchase of CDM Jean from Brazil. Bought for £4.2M he is currently valued at around £8M after an awesome season so far.

My team likes to play on the counter and playing slightly ahead of Flamini with his engine/acrobat shields, high defensive/offensive work rate and long shooting skills Jean is quite something.

He currently has 6 goals / 5 assists from CDM, and recently scored a hatrick of long range scorchers (very satisfying on manual!)

Invested in a decent French scout to set up my academy and currently have 3/4 youngsters who are very promising so thats another exciting thing going forward!

Typing this up (sorry for the long post) has made me realise that its quite enjoyable so maybe I should ignore the new patch and continue with Metz...

I'm on PS3 - looking to start a new career mode. Just updated all the new rosters/team sheets etc.
When i go to create a new career mode it automatically reverts the teams back default teams.
Am I doing something wrong?

Yeah but I very rarely terminate loans early. I usually only send out players on loan who realistically wouldn't get in the team much even with injuries because I keep the backups on my roster and not loan them out unless they're really young in which case I usually have an older back up I'll rely on and send these guys out to get regular first team football in meanwhile and not call them back but I see your point.

So the squad updates are out eh? I'm definitely sticking with my current CM, I just hope this doesn't fuck it up somehow!!

Well I list every player outside the 18 for loan as there's no chance all 10-15 will be picked up by loan so it's a lottery as to who will go and who won't :)

I see. That makes sense.

I've recently had a VERY annoying problem in my CM by the way. I hope it's temporary and not some kind of bug. Anyone else had this?

I'm perfectly okay with players rejecting other clubs' offers and deciding to stay when you're trying to sell them, it happens in real life and it should happen in the game and I like it when it sometimes happens.

BUT, most recently, I've had EVERY player I want to get rid of and transfer-list, instantly reject the offer of the club.

There's this crap Brazilian striker Cidimar who is not in my plans and I've been wanting to get rid of since summer of 1st season when I joined, he rejected offers and transfer window ended. Now in January, desperate to offload him and my backup GK who's been whining about lack of playing time while he's shit and has no great potential either, and DESPERATE to offload them because I have like $0 transfer budget and $2k wage budget which means I can't even sign YOUTH players for my ACADEMY as I don't have the money, these two idiots continue to reject EVERY offer made for them!

Middlesborough even came in for Cidimar, offered him same wage but 4 years while he has 1 year remaining for me, and he rejects it outright within same day! Dutch Eredivisie clubs came in for him too while he'd rather sit NOT even on my bench, morale is at all time low, hasn't played any games, and I've even CRITICIZED him in the media.

Only thing I can think of is people don't wanna leave the club because we're sitting 1st on top of the table in 2nd Bundesliga. But either way it's BS. If you're not getting playing time, and your morale's low and we are after all a SMALL club who was supposed to fight relegation and had just been promoted, and you get an offer from England and Holland for same money but longer contract, you move on!

After I noticed my GK and my target man also instantly reject offers from clubs in January transfer window, I started getting a little worried thinking this might be some dumb bug! Hopefully I can prove myself wrong and get rid of these guys in summer at least otherwise this CM is screwed!

Never seen anything like that, only issues I've had really is players earning less than 1k cannot be sold, you agree the transfer but it always breaks down at the end, you can usually get around this by simply negotiating a new contract with them >1k obviously this is mostly related to youth players who earn so little but there's actually a couple of hidden gems out there on ridiculously low wages for some reason, I signed a winger (can't remember his name) who was low 70s as I recall but earned only £750pw, he was great for me for a couple of years but then I couldn't sell him until I gave him a new >1k contract (this was after a couple of failed attempts to sell him), once he signed the new contract he was sold the same week!

The funny thing is the same players who REFUSE to leave the club even while I'm basically KICKING them out and they're unhappy and getting no playing time, WILL go out on loan!

I tested this because initially seeing I can't get anyone sold and I desperately needed a BIT of a budget at least so I can snap up a couple promising prospects my scout had found, I instead LOANED out my Backup GK and another member of the squad who was refusing sales for a half season loan to free up wage budget and they had no problem with that and went away.

Hope it's not a bug but the number of times they outright refuse teams has worried me and especially since it's not 'one' player. Let's see what happens in the summer!

I was going to restart my CM but to be honest I can’t be bothered, the game mixes all the squads up anyways with player transfers once the mode has started, and the transfer window was pretty dull overall. I can’t recall any major transfers, in England anyways, that for me were glaring enough to be too obvious.

I’m now way past halfway through season two with Newcastle, and am properly entrenched in mid table mediocrity, but that marks a success considering I’ve graduated from playing on Professional, all assisted controls, to World Class and a mix of semi and manual.

Things are looking up though, my season is still being kept alive by the cups, and I won the local derby with Sunderland. I love Ben Arfa's goal to seal the 3-1 win, the last goal of the three;

YouTube - Newcastle 3-1 Sunderland

Despite being dumped out of the League Cup by a Watford team on crack, I narrowly got through to the FA Cup fifth round with a home win over Wolves, thanks again to my keeper Krul's injury time save to win the game. This shows how impressive the keepers can be. His initial save was a bit of a blunder, though it was struck at him very hard, but the follow up save was pure class;

YouTube - Krul Save

Next up, I had an epic FA Cup fifth round tie away at Birmingham. They too came out at 200mph and I found myself unbelievably 0-3 down at half time. Game over. In the second half, however, I slowly took control and once I grabbed a consolation goal, they crumbled. My VP headed in a second with ten minutes to go, then substitue Moukandjo, whose insane pace tormented the Birmingham defence, somehow danced and jinked his way through a packed penalty area to snatch a replay late on. 3-3!

Three days later came the replay as my cup competitions are slowly causing a fixture pile up, and I comfortably defeated Birmingham 2-0.

Next up came a tough Europa League knock out first-leg match away to Rubin Kazan of Russia, who have a decent predigree in European competitions. I held out for a 1-1 draw in the snow, again, my VP deflecting the ball home in slightly bizarre fashion to take the lead, but a late equaliser saw me have to do a proper backs to the wall job to hold out for the 1-1 draw, and now I can take them back to St James’s Park for the second leg.

The fixtures are a nightmare though. I think I played three games in five days, meaning I have a match at Wigan then the tough second leg at home to Rubin Kazan with a depleted, knackered squad, half of whom are asking to be rested. I also have a CB selection headache, with a mini injury crisis seeing Santon have to fill in at CB. Yet more injuries mean I’ll have to field a CB pairing of maybe Santon, who is a LB and really low on energy, and Tiote or Flamini…

Love it!

Damn, so nobody has experienced what I've experienced with not being able to sell players at all in January and a few even rejecting moves in the prior summer!? It's a bit alarming!

Hope I can get rid in summer, otherwise my team as broke as it is, will mean I have to release them which sucks and means I have to move to another team!

Has anyone ever managed to lure a player away when the club says they don't have enough depth at that position to let him go? There's a transfer target I really want but they won't sell for that reason.

Does anyone else find wide midfielders on 4-4-2 are not that improtant?

Ive spent 10 million on Guardado then sold him and spnet 14million on perroti.

Both ahve great ratings but for me it seems the main players I use and are key to scorign are my forward 2 and 2 central midfileders.

My wide midfileders dotn contribute much at all....maybe thats just my style off play?

Off course I try to buy speed players but its not like I do much crossing nor Do I cut in and shoot with wide players.

Nope never happened, I wanted the LB Nilsen all throughout my last CM but they'd never sell (despite numerous other defenders with LB as secondary position), you can offer 100m for a 20p player and they still say no, really stupid. Before starting this new CM I went to his team and edited 2 crappy RB's to be LB's so I could finally buy him!

LTFC - that was a nice save but look how quickly he regains his feet after the first save knocks him off balance. Why do they do that!

Also another thing that annoys me is when you're going 2 v 1 against the CPU and your forward runs off the defender by 5 metres and you put in a 10 metre cross to him for a simple header, by the time the cross reaches him, the defender has magically made up 5 metres and cuts out the header. Ridiculous.

Does anyone else suffer from over- adventurous full backs?! In my CM, Evra is always going forward (too much) and requires the left winger to slot in for him. Not sure if its to do with my sliders, since it seems excessive.

Different players are different.

Evra prob has high offensee work rate and low or normal defense. Check his stats.

Maybe you have fullback position slider high as well?

I have centre Back Charlie Mulgrew at Celtic who has high offense rate. I swear half the game hes up the picth like an Att mid or CF!

I'm doing very well with Everton in my new CM. We've won our first 7 games to be top of the league, including beating Man City 3-1 at the Etihad and beating Liverpool 4-1 at Goodison. I have a feeling this good run can't last much longer though!

Jelavic has been amazing for me. His stats are nothing special but I think they are must be a good combination because he's scored 12 PL goals to be the EPL top scorer. Coleman and Drenthe have also been lethal on the wings.

That's true about crosses, but I've found that I've aleviated that slightly by moving my player across the face of goal and towards the ball as it approaches him. I do the same with general passing to, bringing the player to the ball before it reaches them just cuts out the CPU from being able to step in front of you and get to the ball first. In fact it actively encourages it to hold off and jockey you instead.

I can't believe my Europa League second leg against Rubin Kazan. I got a hard earned 1-1 draw in Russia but the second leg at home was crazy. I had the better of the play, but they tore me a new one on the counter, and I went out 0-3 on the night, 1-4 on aggregate. They were clinical. By contrast, something was wrong with my players, passes went really innacurate, I kept giving the ball away on silly, easy occasions, and even Cleverley had a chance to pull the score back to 2-1 with a near open goal, and he inexplicably smacked the shot high and wide. I've scored a lot of goals in my time and I can categorically say something within the game's reading of his form, morale, whatever, made him blast that wide. I looked at what I did with the pad and I clearly hit the ball into the middle of the empty net, but to my amazement it went all over the shop.

All is not lost though, three days later I put Villa out of the FA Cup 2-0 at Villa Park, no mean feat considering they've been taken over by a billionaire and have bought Kaka, Dzenko etc. That makes Villa, Sunderland, Bolton and Stoke as having new owners and I'm only in season two...

Next up is QPR in the semi final for the right to face Leicester City or Tottenham in the final. With one exception so far, Spurs usually tear me to pieces so I'm counting just getting to the final as an achievement.

Has anyone ever been manager of a club that had new owners take over and millions put into the transfer kitty? I have a feeling the CPU reserves such events for non-human controlled teams only, though I may be wrong.

I saw mentioned that AI European clubs never buy players from outside of Europe, for example Neymar/Ganso would never leave South America - can anyone confirm/deny this?
