Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

I reckon CM would be almost perfect if it had the licensed champions league/celebration. Shame that PES are greedy beggers:P

fifa 12 is a great improvement on 11 though, the career mode was much worse last year.

Oh and good news, franjic decided eventually that he wants to stay and fight for contention at the club :BOP:

Has anyone signed any players that the news feed ever recommends as 'one for the future'? It slightly bugs me that the game kind of lays decent prospects for you on a plate to try and sign, but at the same time it's kinda cool and you'd probably never notice them. Can't make my mind up if I like that particular new feed or not.

Isn't it only about generated players? Or maybe it's cos I'm in the 8th season or something as I only see it about generated players :)

By the stage you're at they will be but, early doors, they're real players. I'm keeping an eye on some dude from Wolfesburg who's a good prospect according to the game and it includes his photo in the profile section so I assume he's real! I think I first found out about Clyne from Crystal Palace and Maher from AZ before I bought them too :)

Actually Maher is proving to be a good signing, when he passes the ball he has that extra bit of quality even though his stats are still pretty low. Like Cleverley in my squad, his passes are crisper, run into the path of your team mates more and have a nice bit of 'spin' on the ball that makes him look like his technique is better than most.

Aha I see, I should pay more notice in the early seasons then! Shame there's no button you can press which shortlists them or something like that, needs this kind of stuff to be a proper manager mode IMO, most important of all each player needs some history, even if it's quite basic for example something like:

Gary Madine
2010 signed by Sheffield Wednesday - £1m
2010-2011 45Apps, 22 Goals, 6 Assists, 2 Red 9 Yellow
2011-2012 38Apps, 14 Goals, 2 Assists, 4 Red 3 Yellow
2012-2013 22Apps, 6 Goals, 0 Assists, 1 Red 4 Yellow
2013 signed by Molde - £750k

Along with basic stats tracked so commentators know when it's someone's 50th, 100th, 200th (etc, etc) match/goal

Obviously we can't expect historical data to be there but there's no reason it can't track this stuff from the moment our CM starts, especially with new signings I'd love to know when I score the 100th/200th goal with them and such...

Adding to the one for the future bit, it definately is real with people like Jack Robinson from Liverpool featured on it.

I like that player history idea... that would be awesome. Like if, (take Jack Robinson for example) had reached his 100th match since i signed him it would indeed be awesome if the commentators said:
'Well some were doubting his ability to begin with but Jack Robinson has become a real legend at the club since signing for (insert club) at the young age of (insert age).'
Then Alan Smith or other co-comentator could say something like: 'he just epitimises the qualities of this team, the work ethic and skill that he brings are excellent and will be for many years to come...

Little things like that would make career mode so realistic

So close to a turning point in my season...

Having plummeted to 15th place on some horrendous form, I began my final six matches of the season with trips to Anfield and Old Trafford.

In Liverpool we managed to grab an unexpected 2-1 victory, thanks to a set-piece goal and then a lightning counter:
YouTube - FIFA12 - Lethal Counter

Bannan put a nice bit of spin on that through ball, as N'Zogbia caught Glen Johnson snoozing. Amused by the flamboyant flop from Liverpool's Kevin-Prince Boateng when he lost the ball, it's the kind of thing he'd do.

Then at Old Trafford in torrential rain, we fought back to 2-2 but luck was not going our way. First this stayed out:
YouTube - FIFA12 - Unlucky Shot

And then a very dodgy penalty was awarded to United in the 90th minute, allowing Luka Modric to unjustly take all the points

Four matches remaining to fight my way back up to the board's expectations of a mid-table finish.

Nice stuff Nerf.

Know how those matches feel! Your team will start picking up points soon though I believe.

Keep us updated.

Yeah that would be a good addition. I'm well interested in tracking my players' stats. On a different note, two minor aesthetic improvements to CM I'd like to see are proper cup draws, and as mentioned above, having the Champions League licence would add some extra authenticity. Regarding the cup tie draws, it would make advancing to each round more of an event, waiting to see who you'll draw out of the hat. EA could make it skippable too of course, but tonight I qualified to the knock out stage of the Europa League and had to search through the upcoming fixtures to find out that I'd be playing Rubin Kazan. They could at least announce the draw in my news feed.

I do love the news feed generally though, being able to scroll through match news, general news for your league and wooed news is a useful way of keeping track of new talent as well as who's fallen out with their clubs etc.

Thanks PLF. I did indeed manage to get two wins and a draw from those final four fixtures, which was just about enough

The final game away at Carrow Road was tense, because I knew it could be the difference between meeting my objective or potentially risking my job. Fortunately, Norwich were already relegated and had been hammered in their previous game 5-1, so didn't arrive on good form at all. We piled on the misery with a rare 4-1 away win, other results went our way, and managed to narrowly sneak into 11th! Hopefully that should satisfy the board for this season.

This was the last of the four:
YouTube - FIFA12 - SDJ cutback

My only significant signings this year were:
Alberto de la Bella (Real Sociedad), Spanish defender who had an excellent season at left back. Only cost £3m and has been one of the most consistent performers. Loves to overlap. Would recommend him highly as a cheap attacking fullback.

Fulham made a January offer for Stephen Ireland that I accepted, then spent almost all of it on Ajax's Siem de Jong. I've been gradually learning how best to utilise him as the season progressed, it has taken a while to settle him into a losing team, but he had arguably his best game so far against Norwich, netting twice. He has intelligent movement (high Attack Positioning), finds pockets of space as you can see from the goal above, also shields the ball really well. I'm hoping he'll hit the scoresheet more regularly next season.

Will probably be searching for a new centre back in the summer. Looking forward to finally shifting Richard Dunne off the wage bill, he gets turned too easily :SHAKE:

Edit: Board were happy with 11th, signed on for another year. There was also an offer on the table from Sunderland, who boasted a transfer budget of £80m! I guess they'd been taken over?

They could at least announce the draw in my news feed.
I agree, that sounds like it would be an effective and simple solution.

Nice turnaround, getting into 11th, its hard to turn around a bad run of form, especially when it matters most.
It was tight. Only pipped West Brom on goal difference, and profited from Fulham and Newcastle losing on the final day to overtake both. I think facing an unhappy Norwich team was also a blessing from the fixture list.

Still, winning three of the last six was better than winning two of the previous twelve. Next season I'm going to see if I can figure out ways of restricting the decline of individual Form, stop it getting so out of hand if possible.

Here are a few quick clips that I particularly liked from my last few matches in CM. I hope no-one minds me posting videos in this thread, it's kinda to do with my season rather than just showing vids for goals etc....

Despite this goal from my attacking left back Santon, I suffered another home defeat, but performances were improving;

YouTube - Santon

Despite dominating Villa I still couldn't get a league win, were it not for the keeper and a post, and ended up drawing 0-0. Full back Clyne got forward, put in the cross, and it ended up with Ben Arfa almost scoring with a volley. This was right near the end and would have won the game I deserved to win.

Anyways, respite from my poor league form again happened in the Europa League, I've already qualified so in my final group game I threw in a bunch of 16 year olds I'd signed having scouted them. This kid called Florian Gundogan stole the show, scoring the winner late on;

I then suddenly trounced Birmingham 5-1 on their own patch, with Gutierrez scoring possibly my best ever strike for the first goal. Ben Arfa added another spectacular goal before some shocking, tired Birmingham defenders wilted late on as my subs ran riot. I love how Martin Tyler said after the first goal how it was a goal of the season contender!

Hopefully this will be the turning point in my season.

Really enjoying career mode. One thing I HATE though is when you get red-carded despite making a perfect sliding tackle, as the last man. It seems programmed to just be given as a foul and a straight foul.

Nice stuff Nerd.

Any other offers at the end of the season apart from Sunderland?

Not that you'd be tempted to leave your boyhood club and all. :P

hi fellas, I'm new. :) currently in my fourth season at city, have a killer squad atm. bought 2 five star skillers, quite cheap. ELia from Juve, and El Sharaaway from Milan. In their second match, Elia got injured for 3 months and Sharaaway for SIX. Can't believe it, am I doing something wrong? :S

Such a poor career mode :(

Finished in 1st place in League 1 with Tranmere, had about 12 players whos contract was expiring but only had £110k as a transfer budget so would've had to wipe that out just to offer wages, and probably couldn't afford to do all the contracts anyway.

So I carry on, hoping that I'd get more money to spend. And I get £1.6m ... but all of the players have gone now! Ridiculous. As a game, I think it plays really well. As a career mode, it's just poor.

As a player manager, how can I accept an offer to join another club and still be a player there? It seems I could only move my VP if I stayed at Tranmere, otherwise I'd just be the manager.

If u guys get a bad result to do u alt+f4 or reset console lol

Must admit sometimes I done that just in cup games or to get into europe etc ha....s

Its hard not to be tempted.;) I guess for me it depends on the manner of the defeat and context of it.

Not a chance, PLD ;)

There was about half a dozen offers I think. One from M'gladbach, a couple of Serie A clubs (Chievo and someone else). Can't recall the others, but I'd always intended to stay if the board would let me, so didn't dwell on it too long. It was just Sunderland's budget that caught my eye.

Yes. Managing City! ;)
We like injuries here, so the more you get the better, as it makes you use your squad.

Welcome to Evo as well :))

LOL. I know Im thinking of starting with a slightly worse team. My squad's good but small so I tried investing in players like Elia, El Sharaaway etc. but they just got injured and I had to start from my last save :(

If you're really aganist injuries, go to your sliders and change injuries from 50 to 0.
