Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

when players have low morale or form are there stats reduced...I mean not on the stat dsipaly but in the game, do they perfrom worse?

How much did he cost you? Pretty good stats there. He must cost more than $10mil as that was my search limit and he didn't show up.

i would need to double check but from memory somewhere between £4.5-7.5 million I think?

Will get back to you on that 1!

When would you say is the best time to promote youth players to the senior squad? Do they still grow when they are eligible to be promoted to the senior side?
I have some reasonable youngsters that could fit in well at scunthorpe so i want to get the best out of them.
Would really like some advice :WORSHIP:

Funnily enough I was going to post this but couldn't be bothered! Was reading the rather excellent www.fifascoutingtips.com and it turns out that unless the player is good enough to get into your team at 16 you're better off leaving them in the academy as long as possible because according to that blog young players in the academy continue to grow at the same rate as if they played every single first team match, wish I knew that a long time ago!

Which formation(s) do people on here use? I find that a convential 4-4-2 leaves me exposed through the middle, and lacking support from the midfield.

I'm finding that altering player position and run mentality is far more important than physically moving the player and changing formation. For example, if you have an attacking midfielder who's in his position in midfield as a CM, change this to ACM. Change wingers from RM to AMR or even RS if you can. Also, the mentality settings are great, change attacking players to low defensive and high attacking mentality for more effect. That transformed my Newcastle side to one that wouldn't cross the halfway line to having players get well forward.

As for any players with low morale, if all else fails then single them out for praise during your press conference, and make sure they get some kind of game time. They'll appreciate the attention, unless they're a total dick...

Had a look but i didn't see anything about growth as a youth player, yet its hard to tell how they are improving in the youth academy as there is not a certain overall for players. It is a very good site though. With several good players in his lw position i reckon he can stay in the academy for a bit longer.

Youth players in the academy grow as fast as they would if they were playing every game in the first team

He cost me £6.5mil Uk pounds from molde 3 seasons into game/career so heas bout 26?

The only reason I became aware of him was I was playing molde in Euroleague match and he scored 2 against me and was a total handfuk...so after game I checked his stats then in the summer i bought him.

However, I have gary hooper, Danny wellbeck and Sigurdarson also so 4 top strikers at the club, rotate often,

If you move club at end of season and you have your virtual pro in your team does he move with you to your new team?

Also if you have spend money on scouts do they move with you ro do you need to buy new scouts and lose the ones you bought for your old club?

Apparently the lack of fouls in CM can be solved by tweaking the CPU's custom tactics/aggression prior to starting a CM.. anyone got any experience of this working?

people complain lack of fould but fouls slow down and break up the game..think PES5.

Only thing I miss is free kicks around the box to make shots and score cool free kicks.

In saying that I was god liek at PES with free kicks on FIFA I am total crap but I aint pracitced much but it seems random per player. Whereas PES was always a sweet spot in terms of power bar and direction for various diatances that could be memorised.

FIFA 12 fks are hard for me, I not practice much though tbf

Maybe but not really worth doing unless you can somehow edit and save custom tactics for all teams (unless I guess you pick out some dirty teams like Stoke & Wolves I guess?) :)

Obviously sliders and CM go hand in hand so as I've just posted my final slider set in the slider thread I'll repost it here in combined form with a summary of what I like about it:

In case there's any interest I have now reached a point with the sliders where my set is 100% right for me and IMO plays the best, most realistic game of football possible, in short it's an all manual, slow, 10 min halves legendary slider set, first some post match stats so you can see how the CPU play stats wise with these sliders:

First was a cracking FA cup tie at Everton, real cup feel to it and there was a great ebb and flow, at times they were on top, at times I was on top, ended 1-1 and is going to a reply, here's the post match stats:
sliderstats.jpg

Ok here's the stats from two more matches and then below will be the sliders:

Nothing too out of the ordinary about this one, best team won, my keeper unsurprisingly got man of the match:
dsc0154ju.jpg

Crazy match this one, Chelsea already play Mikel at CB for the last couple of seasons, Bruma got sent off for two yellows on 34 so they moved Andy Carroll to CB! This left an LW and RW up front which surprisingly worked as they kept running between my fullbacks and CBs and found a lot of space (despite being man marked by my fullbacks), note the amount of CPU tackles/cards and especially CPU shooting, who said they don't shoot from outside the area? ;):

And here's the sliders:

For best testing play in dry weather as the wet pitch slows down the ball and makes it easier for the AI to pass, this is fine as it makes rain matches a little harder which is good but not until you're familiar with these sliders ;)

after prolonged testing shot power 51 works well, as long as you combine it with slightly raised goalkeepers and raised shot error (even if using manual). You see some rockets but from the right players, not from 46OVR CBs

The increased marking is primarily to compensate for the heavily increased amount of turnovers you'll now get because of the CPU's passing inaccuracy, it's not just about them passing direct to you, or straight out of play, because of the increased pass speed now they will often make the pass to their player but if the player in question doesn't have great ball control their first touch will be poor and you easily nip in and get the ball back.

I've played 10-15 matches on these sliders and for me (obviously it's subjective) they play a hard but fair game of football and the chances created, shots, passing etc. etc. remind me a lot of what I see in EPL matches. Some other stuff I really like is that defenders tend to hoof the ball a bit more now, often they will pass back to the keeper too hard and all the keeper can do is slice it into touch or slice it in the air back at their CBs, again this looks really realistic to me.

One thing I especially like about shot power 51 is there's a lot more movement on the ball which on a sweetly hit shot looks great and looks realistic.

Obviously with any set of sliders they should be seen as a base, some people will want a harder game so they can lower the AI pass error/pass speed/shot error, some people will need an easier game so they can play semi/assisted or use this settings base on world class or maybe even professional although I think these sliders on professional might not work because the AI simply won't be able to play a final ball well enough to get shots away.

In my scunthorpe career mode, the media saga has continued with the press all saying that Franjic the rb is really unsettled and clubs will go for him in january.

I've tried to praise him and give him game time but there's still stories every couple of games, that he's gonna leave. A while ago Franjic told me that it was all lies but he is finding it hard to settle in to a new country.

He's a good player for the standard of a team that got promoted into the championship last season and this is now the second season where i'm going for back to back promotions.

The strange thing is, i got him on a loan to buy in the first season and he was fine, with no issues whatever.:CONFUSE:

What can i do, should i try and improve his contract?

I had the exact same thing with Babacar, he played two full seasons on loan for me and then about 1 month after I signed him permanently it all kicked off! Eventually he just said he was happy to stay and that was that :)

Did some excellent business, bought Caulker 4 seasons ago for something like £2.7m (his value was £3.5m) when Spurs transfer listed him, signed him at 76OVR and he rose to 81OVR and now valued at £6m, Bolton who've been taken over bid £6m for him, I say no, they come back with £9m, I say no, they come back with £12m, I say no, they come back with £15.5m, I say hell yes! What a profit! Went out and bought a Dutch defender called Stefan de Vrij really good defender with Tackling and Tactician specialties and long passing trait, can play at CB or RB, very happy! :)

I wanted to sign Caulker in my CM (4th season), but couldn't get him!
I offered a loan to buy, which Spurs rejected, but have to wait til the following window as I can't offer just cash now (one CM grumble!).
In the end I opted for Pedro Mendes, who I knew from my Madrid CM, and haven't been disappointed. Cost about £2m, but easily my best defender & would recommend him. I'm already planning to sign him when I start my United CM after the update :)

I started season 4 thinking I had too many strikers, but couldn't shift the ones I didn't want. Luckily, several injuries meant they all had a chance to impress so worked out quite well. After my star striker being sold after a hissy fit I brought in Jordan Rhodes for £3m & Michael Owen on a free. They, alongside an Aussie (Jesic) & another youngster (Minniecon - rapid as f**k!) who were promoted from fringe player to starters have been immense.

Currently 3rd in the league, & still in both cups. Have 2 weeks of the winter window left, and trying not to sign anyone but it's too tempting! Bought 38 year old Ian Harte on a freebie for the odd games where Mr Buttner & my other left sided players need a rest, My 1st choice RB is out for a while, and my RW isn't fantastic (so converting a pacy striker to play there for now), & my VP is out for 3 months, but that makes it exciting! :)

Some of the bargains you can get with free agents are awesome. Loads of my best players have come from that bargain bucket. It helps at a small club as i can just transfer the cash to spend into wages so i can get more free agents :BOP:

My team:
First XI (i'm in second season):
gk Smith 77 free agent (bought in first year)
rb Di Laura 68 (+2) free agent
cb Nelson 65 already at Scunthorpe
cb Angela 66 free agent
lb Gercaliu 66; (+3, bought in first year, free agent)
cdm Gazzi 69 free agent(+2)
rm Verdi 67 loan
lm Takyi 72 (+2 bought in first year free agent)
cam candreva 78 (+2 free agent)
st vp
st emerson (-1) loan

formation: 4-1-2-1-2
Some of the subs are free agents as well, like fandrich at cam or paulluci (<---- badly spelt) as a striker. Got some other players who i rotate quite a bit too.

Loving what i can get on the cheap and not bad growth from some of them like Di Laura who i've only had a few months but has already grown +2. Shame he's out for 3 months injured.

Is there a good way to improve this sqaud on a tight budget?

I am 2 games in to my new season with Blackpool and lost my first 1-0 to Shef Wed, a game I should have won. The second 3-0 to Brighton who were all over me.

I am struggling on Professional level, I am normally an online player who never plays vs the CPU and its proving to be quite hard for me.

Maybe I need to try out these sliders and see if they make a difference. Do you reckon they would work the same on Professional?

Btw, I bought Heskey as a target man and a nippy striker from Atletico, Alcaraz I think he is called. Typical Heskey, he has had loads of chances and squandered them all then got injured in the second game! I will keep the faith in him, hopefully he will come good.

They might make professional too easy, but with a couple of adjustments here and there you should find a good balance that works for you :)

Thats the thing, I am a lazy bugger and just want some predefined ones to try out :)

Hopefully I will get out of my old habit of the knock on with the right stick, I keep losing the ball that way.

Question about squad improvements

It pretty much depends on what kind of players you're after, and how much you have available to spend really.
When I started at Charlton, there wasn't much money to play around with, so had to scour many different leagues! There's a few options from League Two, but (for me anyway) I found the Australian league quite handy, as well as a couple from the MLS.

Maybe have a look at *(spoilered so Paul can't peek!)*
Pedj Bojic - Central Coast Mariners.
Can play RB/CB/LB/CM/DM, and has Team Player & Engine traits. Not bad at set pieces, so can take your corners as well.
Think he cost somewhere between 200-300k

Danny O'Rourke (Colombus Crew) is another good utiliy player, though he might be a little more expensive. Think he cost me about 450k...

Matt Simon - Central Coast Mariners
Decent striker, fairly cheap & has high stamina so can play almost every game. Was my star striker in the Championship (2nd season).

Tahj Minniecon - Gold Coast United
Extremely quick striker, can also play on the wing. Can't remember, but think he cost about 600-700k.

I have very different sliders but the match stats seem to be very similar. Possession in my games are around 50/50 on average, with equal numbers of shots and about 70-80% pass completion.

That said I only play on Professional because I'm really not great at the game. I'm like a flashy non-league player who never quite made it, I can score some lovely goals but I'll still struggle in almost every other area.....:P

Oh and as for my second season, I'm loving it as much as I'm infuriated by my lack of ability to kill games off. Last night I got a very good 0-0 draw at home to Man Utd, thanks to Valencia missing a sitter for the visitors and Rooney managing to crash a 30 yard shot back off the top of the bar that landed to safety.

I then got a 2-2 draw at West Brom in an even contest. Here are my two goals, the first a great strike from Cleverley on the rare occasion the CPU defence backed off and allowed him time to shoot. The second, a Demba Ba volley, and the third clip shows how valuable Krul is this season, as he pulls off a brilliant one handed save late on to deny West Brom the win. I love how the whistle ended shortly after and you get a cut scene of the players thanking Krul for keeping them in the game.

YouTube - Newcastle V West Brom 2-2

Next up, I fought back to salvage a 1-1 draw at Stoke. I was second best for the first hour, then a quick change of tactics to a more aggressive form of defending seemed to help me press higher up the field and compete physically, and I dominated late on and eventually got an equaliser.

Next up, a less than comfortable 2-0 away win in the Europa league to a tiny team in a non-league like stadium. I was second best, but benefitted from an own goal then a Steven Taylor header from a corner late on.

Finally, I still couldn't get a bloomin' Premier League win, I dominated Aston Villa and couldn't find the net, with it finishing 0-0.

Then something went horribly wrong at Fulham, I lost 2-0, and all my players were terrible. Simple passes were going all over the place.

So I'm at the halfway stage in season 2, sitting in 12th place, comfortable in the league but a bad run away from a struggle. I've qualified comfortably to the next phase of the Europa League but been knocked out of the League Cup.

No matter how hard I try I just can't get any consistency, which is frustrating but refreshing for a football game. I remember playing ML in PES last year that culminated in my team winning 90% of all matches, some of them by seven or eight nil. Am I the only one finding Professional to be a tough challenge? I'm on semi and manual controls and with custom sliders.

Thanks for the advice :WORSHIP: (more stuff in spoiler)
The Australian league does have some good quality signings, especially when they have some of the lowest wage demands in the game. I need a ultility sort of defender to cover for injuries and cb's getting old as well as Franjic (from Aulstralian league) being unsettled, so bojic sounds great. Minniecon also sounds like a great player and i will probably look at simon too.
I'd advise that you look this decent rb, Di Laura (was a free agent for me in second season) he's young and has good growth on his stats. If he aint a free agent now in your game i don't think he would cost that much. Problem is that he doesn't like to bomb up a lot, he has a low attacking work rate, but he did this a bit more in a 4-1-2-1-2 formation
