Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

I agree. Same for me. That's why I even enjoy it though unlike you I don't do it in the prematch menu because I was even scared of that but pre match I select (sub) the players I want for that opponent and then do the actual changes formation wise, custom tactics wise as soon as match starts, I press pause and go to team management and go to a customized formation, etc.

That -13534234 number thing was definitely one of the symptoms that the bug is there and very alive. Thankfully having used the workaround I haven't had it yet either. I only asked this now because like I said the default formation Atletico starts with is a 4-3-3 and I'm now thinking of switching to a 4-4-2 or at least giving it a go to see if my strikers play better then and so what I'm gonna do is go and change formation to the DEFAULT 4-4-2 in the main team management screen but then from there, do as I've been doing it and select the 'custom' one and all that only (in-game). Hopefully I shouldn't encounter any problems. Thanks for the replies guys.

Regarding to that bug;

I've had a bugged savegame with my Barcelona save. So after a while I opened it and my whole squad was all well no more players showing up as goalies. So I think they fixed the major part of the bug.

So had a busy couple of months working in real life (being a freelance photographer tends to do that) and getting addicted to skyrim but decided to pick fifa back up with the latest patch and I am loving it - probably the most fun I've had in a manager mode yet!

-

I decided to go with Newcastle as they had a lot of attractive characteristics (Premier League, financially sound, awesome stadium, solid expansive squad, nice kits, player faces, potential to be a european heavyweight - the task i've set myself).

Just reached the end of the January transfer window solidly performing in and around the europa league spots and secretly glancing at 4th as I plan to finish strong with Best, Ba, Gutierrez AND Ben Arfa all returning from serious knocks they succumbed to over the tough winter period. Signing Henry as a stop-grap replacement and the speedy LuaLua returning from loan have aided my VP in keeping the goals flowing.

Anyway 3 websites have really helped add my interest to the mode to the extent now where I'm thinking of it in near enough football manager terms i.e. "where can I lead this club to over the next fifteen years?"

You all know from the young player lists but they now have databases of good lower league players, older players and solid players regardless of age. If you sort ordered by the largest amount of improvement you can pick up some real bargains to be developed and sold later on (bit of moneyball anyone?)

Absolutely awesome website explaining in detail the new scouting system. Can't wait to see some of my regen wonderkids flourish (or at least be sold for a massive profit!)

Awesome spreadsheet someone made of all the players with starheads aka individual faces, ordered by position and OVR. Personally this adds SO much enjoyment to the game so its totally become my aim to build a squad made from these players. More than you would think!

Sorry for the essay!

F**K! The board expectations are CRAZY in this game man!

So I finished the 2nd season only 2 points behind Barcelona as I managed to beat Real in Bernabeu to finish ahead of them and then Barca lost to Real at Camp Nou and even dropped points against Mallorca. Made for a very interesting final match because with a win and a shock, I could've even become champions, something that never looked likely up until the very last weekend! Sevilla didn't do me any favours though and lost 4-1 while I got my revenge on Valencia beating them at home 1-0 to finish only 2 points behind Barcelona who are treble winners!

I ended up the season 2nd then with 95 points! Only 13 goals conceded and only 2 losses (One to Valencia, One to Osasuna both whom I got revenge from in return fixtures)

Have been mostly dominating games though and have now decided to reduce short pass error of AI down to 60 from the 65 I was playing at.

Problem is new season has come and guess what the freaking board's expectations are.

Win the CL
Win the League
Win the Cup

Retarded! My first season in CL! And yes I have a great team now and I'm very happy with them but there are still stronger and richer teams than us and we shouldn't be expected to win anything, just to compete really and even then not for CL, just in Spain.

Despite these crazy aspirations of the baord, I decided to stay with Atleti because I'm building an empire here and have all the staff/players I want and have shaped the club into a machine that'll be successful for years. I was tempted by Milan and Man City though who were offering me even bigger transfer budgets and same expectation but of course I'd be trying a new league/players.

Maybe I'll jumpship next year but for now, with Atletico finally in CL, and a great squad, I'm excited to get season 3 under way!

Also had offers from Leverkusen and Club Brugge (Belgian Champs) as well as Valencia from my own league in case anyone's curious. Nice good variety of offers I have to say. Too bad, I'm a loyal guy. ;)

I can't take pictures but I still have some of the original Atletico players but have gotten rid of the deadwood and brought in many of my own.

GK: Asenjo (Rated at 76, the 23 year old performed admirably and still the original Atletico GK)

DL: Ansaldi (Bought from Rubin the Argentine Int'l, one of the first names on the team sheet usually which pisses off Filipe because they're rated both at 81 and he doesn't get enough time on pitch

DR: Silvio (The original Atletico Portuguese RB has really grown and performed consistently) I brought in Luca Antonini for cheap from Milan to add depth as he can play on both sides as a fullback

CB: Matts Hummels (Rated 87 - The Dortmund Beckenbauer!)

CB: Angelo Ogbonna (Italian Black CB from Torino who's just a physical mONSTER!)

With Miranda one of the original Atletico CB's along with Atletico legend Perea who's now 34 providing depth and backup to my main 2 CB's.

In midfield, after 2 seasons on loan, this year I intend to use Atleti product young CM Koke who's now rated 74 and ready to do a job for me as a squad player. Tiago, Ruben Micael, Raul Garcia and Paulo Assuncao have all been sold and in came Flamini, Fellaini, Nigel De Jong and Enoh the Cameroonian DMF from Ajax who was listed.

Arda Turan I usually play as AMF and not LW and he's been inconsistent and like Falcao, not often performing to the levels you'd expect. I had Diego as AMF on loan in first season and in 2nd season went with Coutinho who performed well for me but now the loan is over and Koke is back who can fill that position.

I play Hulk as my RW with an arrow that cuts inside and he ended up top scorer of La Liga with 22 goals and is my main man, main star and captain these days. Eden Hazard came in when I sold the 29 year old inconsistent Reyes to Valencia to perform as my 1st choice LB and he's taken no time to adapt! Was a BIG help in 2nd half of season and helping us achieve that amazing position.

Juanfran (another original member) and Sebastian Larsson are my two backup wingers who can put in much better crosses than Hulk and Hazard but aren't as fast and as deadly in front of goal. So they're more providers rather than penetrators themselves.

Up front I still have the original Falcao and Adrian as my main 2 strikers and I have brought in 29 year old Austrian Marc Janko as 3rd option just to provide something completely different as he's a 6"5 , 200 pounds EXTREMELY SLOW (Speed in 30's!) but GREAT in the air target man. He's also a poacher and an aerial threat and strength special stars so he can definitely get you goals but he's very slow and that's fine with me because I'd select him only if I see opposition has a CB that's short or not very good in the air.

And I usually play him with Seb Larsson in same team because Larsson has crossing special star and can really whip them in.

Falcao like I said hasn't been performing like an 86 OVR rated striker in 2 seasons now though! Inconsistent and someone who's often lost his place to the 76-rated Adrian who's faster and a better dribbler. If I get a tempting offer for Radamel, he's definitely out!

So that was the team I ended season 2 with but now with the lofty ambitions set for us by the board, further investment and upgrades had to be made and I've successfully turned the team into what I wanted pretty much by Sept 1 of Season 3.

I was not planning on selling De Jong. He was my main DMF and at 28 years old and with 'tactician' special star, someone I would gladly keep. But when Leverkusen started sniffing around him, they seemed determined to get their man! I rejected two of their offers before they came in with a $24M proposal for him while his value was $15.5M. So much like the Diego Godin transfer last summer, it was an offer I couldn't refuse as we all know every player has his price.

With him gone, I needed a replacement DMF. Someone just as good if not better and preferably younger with even more room to improve. That's when Mats Hummels started chirping in my ear about his old team-mate Sven Bender and how he's be a great replacement. At 24 years old now, Sven is no longer a youngster but a very accomplished DMF with not just the 'tactician' special star but 'tackling' as well with ratings in 90's in both tackling attributes and pretty good everywhere else as well. Plus he's much taller and better in the air therefore than de Jong and my other DMF Enoh who is also fairly short.

I needed a real AMF to give Arda Turan who seems to perform only whenever he feels like it some real competition! Maybe even a player who'd put him on the bench and improve the squad. That's why I brought in Honda! Broke the bank to get him but with 'distance' shooter and that lethal left foot of his, I now have a very nice alternative in the AMF position to the more agile, dribbler type Arda! A real AMF who can SCORE many goals and not just make them. Honda will be my starting AMF now and it'll be up to him to lose it and for Arda to regain his spot after some indifferent performances last year.

Finally, after putting up with Falcao for 2 seasons where he showed his talent only in glimpses and never got into a consistent run where I could rely on him as the main striker which is what he was supposed to be, I was determined to offload him and bring in another ST superstar. That wasn't easy though. I didn't want to put him on transfer-list to maintain his value. So I advanced through month of July and with no apparent offers coming, I put him on transfer list come August 1st and it took until August 25th to finally receive an offer! Man City came in with a $35M offer! I'd gladly taken this but in a bold move with only 5 days left and no prior offers from any teams for over 20 days, I decided to press 'No' and reject this offer knowing City have more $$$ in the bank and are just trying to rip me off on this with Falcao being outta form but still valued at $44M!
And it paid off! They came back in offering his full value at $44 million and I bit their hand off and accepted to send the Colombian flop on his way to Manchester.

Now the task was to replace him with an equally high value, high profile, high ability striker who can hopefully do what Falcao couldn't! Score goals and lots of goals and cONSSITENTLY!

A shortlist was made that included the following:

Alberto Paloschi
Moussa Sow
Chicharito
Seydou Doumbia

among others. I even thought about bringing either Aguero or Torres back to the club they love but neither deal was do-able at this current time with El Nino having just recently moved to Sunderland! And Man City wanting $55M for El Kun! So I decided to postpone their inevitable return back 'home' and narrow my list down to Doumbia and Hernandez.

After much thought and deliberation in the final hours of the transfer window on transfer deadline day, Seydou Doumbia became the newest member of an Atletico side expected to compete on all fronts for $37 million!

Koke has of course come back from a full season on loan at Deportivo and is now staying with me as a squad member providing depth in center of the park and the youngster has really impressed in the friendlies so far and will this season finally get his chance for his boyhood club. Currently rated 74 and Asenjo is now 77 but still #1 GK.

LET THE 3rd SEASON BEGIN!!!

p.s. Noticed a nasty bug which even made my CM mode freeze earlier twice which I'll tell you guys about later!

Have you used Honda in any teams before? If not, you're in for a treat :)

I'm still enjoying the challenge at Charlton. Most games have been tight low scoring games, though have managed to find my scoring boots in the last couple of games, with 2x 4-0 results.
I've dropped my injury severity down a couple of notches as well, from 73 to 68. With a smaller squad & more games than my time at Real, I'd already lost 4 players with 3 month injuries & another for 6 months, so hopefully that'll balance it out.

15 games in, and I'm on top of League One, just the 1 point ahead of Sheff Utd, with the busy December schedule about to start.
I've already started drawing up transfer targets, but as I will need to sell first it's going to be interesting! I managed to keep hold of club captain Johnnie Jackson last time round, fighting off Sheff Wednesday (sorry Placebo!). He was valued at £450k, and they went up to £900k on deadline day.
The GK that I signed for free has been doing really well, but seems unable to catch most of the time. He's gone from being valued at £400k when he joined, to now being worth £1.6m, so think he might be sacrificed so secure some of the loaned in players to permanent deals.

Next update will be after the Winter transfer window :)

Nice! Sounds good man. Keep it up!

That free GK wouldn't happen to be the Canadian John Smith would it?

And no I haven't used Honda before in the game but am a fan of his in real life. He's got a lethal left foot and I can't wait to put that along with Seydou Doumbia's dribbler, speedster, poacher attributes all into play and even combine the two.

So for me Falcao and de Jong left along with deadwood in Ivan Sanchez (A youngster who starts in Atletico and I loaned out for 2 years in a row but at 20, he's just nowhere near good enough and doesn't seem to be improving that much either) while Honda, Doumbia and Sven Bender came in.

Wanting to start a new CM, just not sure who I want to use. I did two fairly short CMs, one with Forest and the other with PSG, PSG was fun but too much money to play with, no real struggles (Although injuries beat the shit out of me). Forest was probably more fun as I was constantly finding cheap players to bring in and dealing with unhappy goal scoring machines.

After using someones suggestion of putting injuries up to 90 and severity to 55 I am really liking it. I've seen broken tailbones, ankles, knees. I've had players come back from one injury, given 10 minutes at the end of a game to play and break something else :D
And I like the knee wrap when a player comes back from a knee injury.

Anyway, any suggestions? :P

And a legendary club who can be taken back to glory days!

Don't know if he wants to play in France though having already tried PSG.

Why not give Borussia M'Gladbach a try in German daikirai? Another legendary club except in an environment you haven't experienced. And they have some good young players like Marco Reus and the goalkeeper.

@tik, THE BIG BUG had to do with putting up YOUTH players who've been offered Pro contracts up for a season loan. Unfortunately, without me actually getting any offers for 4 of them, I noticed after a couple weeks of being put up for loan, it said : "Loaned out" just like another one of my players who actually WAS loaned out.

I thought it's strange but maybe not a real problem, thing is, when I went to Squad Report screen, I noticed the 'supposedly' loaned out youngsters weren't greyed out like loaned out players are and upon moving the selector down to one of them, my game froze! Tried it a few times, and it froze everytime! so it turned out, it was a show-stopping bug. Luckily for me, I have like 12 saves and so I just went back like 2 weeks in summer BEFORE I put up those youth kids up for loan and noticed this problem happen, and took over from there and started playing that.

I went with Etienne :P Lot of young fast players, I have sold two senior players, both didn't bring in much money. Tried to pick up Le Tallec from Auxierre but no go. I don't know why but I always like buying him, doesn't have any good stats but he always plays well for me.
I nearly did Gladbach actually, but last minute decided to try france again. Only played one game and one pre-season game so far. Still figuring out my players but so far so good, commentators keep saying we're just a mid table team though :P

I Can't understand why throughout a season you can have a player whos constantly worth say £40million to suddenly drop by 10-15 millions once the transfer window opens. anyone know why?

just entered 4th season with CSK Moskva

----------Akinfeev----------
Clyne--Mussachio--De Vrij--Olson
L. Chung Yong----------Shaqiri
----------Henriksson----------
Roux-----A.Hernandez----F.Jara

Performance ratings? I know I've had players who were getting high 5s/mid 6s and their value dropped.

Just finished my 4th season, came second in the Prem, won both domestic cups, won the Europa league, and all I get in transfers for the new season is £6.5m and 35k pw, very disappointed, fortunately for once there were 4 or 5 very, very good free transfers such as some winger called Sam (not the Charlton one) who's a 79 and only 26/27 years old who will walk straight into my first team, also a very good CB who was a 76 iirc who will also walk into my first team, trying to sell as many squad players as possible, there seems to be an annoying bug that transfer offers you accept get reset to stall when you get a new transfer offer in for a different player, I keep getting to a point where there's 4 or 5 transfer offers that I've accepted that just sit there and eventually they turn into failed transfers with "club withdrew" :(

Ended up getting Le Tallec somehow, it said he just moved and wasn't going to move so I upped my offer a bit and increased his wages and bam. Let him start the next game against OM. Held on for 56 minutes, actually kept most of the possession and had some amazing defensive efforts. Got quite a few shots off, then OM hit me on the counter and got a rebounded goal. Ended up winning a PK thanks to some nice footwork by Sako, Batlles smashed it in to put us level, straight from kick off OM score again, then again 5 minutes from time. Was impressed with the team for most of the game, just unfortunate.
Drew my next game 0-0 and just beat Lille 1-0 thanks to Le Tallec :D He's been better than I had hoped, always seems to find some room for a shot, forces a lot of saved and creates rebounds.

I also picked up Blind from Ajax, always done well for me also, even though he's only a 69. His backup is Ghoulan is a 69 I think too but both play really well, Blind gets waaaay up the field though but with Sako's speed it isn't a major problem.

@ PLF,

Did you try the trick mentioned...uh, in here earlier I think. That was to change the players' loan to transfer and back to loan (or something like that) which should clear it up. So far I haven't noticed any bugs, but I'm only in the 2nd season.

You mean put that player up for transfer and then back to listed for loan again? No I didn't do that but I remember I couldn't as that wasn't an option since these were NEW members of the senior squad having just been offered their pro contracts. The same way you can't put up a player you just purchased up for sale as it says: "Purchased this season".

As these players (All very high potential and Spanish and ones I was looking forward to slowly but surely incorporating into my team over the next few years threatened my save game and had caused this initial problem, I released them all to get them out of my squad and hopefully avoid all future problems it may cause the game. Except one which the board didn't allow me to release as it said you've released too many players already this year.

@Placebo, yes I know all about that bug. It's very annoying. Though I've noticed sometimes it is the player not being so keen to move to the team offering to buy him and so he takes his sweet time deciding and ultimately even often rejects the offer. You don't get a notification about it but when you check in negotiations, sometimes it's the player who has rejected offer.

Gave up on my Malaga career mode. Got boring playing in the same league for four seasons, and moving wasn't really an option since most teams are more or less "destroyed" by all the transfers.

I am trying to start a new CM but just can't find any team I enjoy. I have tried Monaco, QPR and Fulham but got bored after one game. Any tips for a fun team to play with? It need to be a team with at least a few players with real faces and one that you can assign a stadium that is simmilar to the real one, got a big hang up about that :)

@PLF true

Anyone found that they really can't trust their scout's judgment? I have an Aussie 3*/3* scout who I sent scouting Australia (there's a bonus as we know for them to scout their own countries), he finds a player who seems to have decent potential and recommends him, next month he says he doesn't recommend him anymore, I think he looks ok so undecided, he's 16 so figure why not, sign him to my academy, then go straight away to offer him a contract and it says he's worth £3.9m at age 16!

Nice, I'm glad to hear that. I want scouts to not get every player right and even misjudge some. That means we have to use our own judgement and it's quite realistic that they make mistakes. Especially a 3/3 star scout as compared to a 5/5 one.

One of the players I had to release because of the bug mentioned above was worth just under $6M! He had 83-89 potential and was a 195cm, 200 pound DMF with name of Miguel Varela! Such a shame I had to get rid of him because I didn't wanna risk it f***ing up my game!

I continued with Leeds, got my best player so far with Marcus Henriksen (I don't put him in a spoiler 'cause he's sort of known, not a hidden 'gem', so to speak) and Scott Sinclair. I still have problems to find a nice RB, I wanted Brayford but couldn't afford him after getting those other 2.

20 games into the season (give or take) and Ogude has been unsettled for like a month or so, and today he said he wanted to leave.

I don't know why, he was always one of my star players, but with a nice offer he'll just go, I'll look for a better replacement and that's it.

Henriksen's arrival has made "The Ogude attack" not so necessary now.

I had the bad luck to get all my strikers injured (Zaha, Russell and Hines), I had to play with a LW that could play in the ST position for some time, performing decently and luckily getting the help from the rest of the players to score goals. Hines is fully recovered now and back to scoring goals and even setting them up, Zaha's almost healthy, but Russell has like 7 weeks to be ok.

Right now I'm looking forward to selling the unsettled Ogude (and maybe one of the many CMs I have that don't have that many chances) so I can get a better CAM and maybe something else, like a CDM (I spotted a nice cheap one) or a RB (harder, 'cause the good ones are expensive and I need the CAM more)

Oh I simmed a match in the Champions League against Zurich (I was already qualified for the next round), we drew 1-1, and there was a comment from ME after the match saying something like the ref was wrong allowing their goal. That was pretty good, even if I can't do that manually.

What's the point of manager/club prestige if bloody Anderlecht still take 6 hours on deadline day to answer my email offering £4.4m for Kouyate, it's only a 10 hour day for fucks sake!!!!!

Yeah, I don't get the last day of transfers either, I would think in a real life situation, if a club really wants to sell their player, they would make it a point to send you a response with enough time to wrap up the deal. It is pointless for them to agree to a deal when there is only one hour left, leaving you no chance to finalize the deal with the player...
