Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

I am getting the hang of it a bit more and loving it.

Had 3 wins on the bounce all 1-0 but I am not complaining, I lost my first 3 league games and was sitting at the bottom of the table, but have drawn 1 and won 3 now so I am upto 11. Crazy how it is mimicking real life :-)

Beat tottenham 0-1 at White Hart Lane with a great low drive from Van Persie in the 90th minute. Also a late goal to beat Sunderland aswell on the 89th minute.

I have Liverpool to play in the League cup now, but they are at the top of the league and I don't expect to win, but we will see.

Sometimes I am tempted to go to Semi shooting because of all of the silly misses, but I need to just get my level up again.

With all manual including player switching and new tactical defending, the hands/fingers are getting a bit strained with the constant button switching ;))

Thanks for the tips on defending, working much better now, still make a couple of mistakes throughout the match. The tactical defending is really unforgiving which I like, so one mistake and they could be right through.

Bringing the ox, Miyaichi and my VP and trying to play them everynow and again which is working well, I beat Ipswich in the last round of the league cup with my VP and the Ox on the score sheet.

I bought Rossi and Affelay in and sold Chamack, Almunia, Rosicky and another I have forgotten and loaned out quite a few.

Rossi scored a couple but now his moral is low, Affelay is doing well and scored on his debut, he is consistant, but nothing amazing yet.

Hopefully I can get Arsenal into the top 4 and in the champs league. Although, this manager save was just to get used to everything again, i might start a new one when I am better at the game.

Started a new CM as Vitesse on World Class. Played 4 games so far, won all of them and haven't conceded a single goal. Think I scored 4-5 goals over the first three games and none of them was scored by my strikers witch was a real joy since I've felt the game was getting pretty boring because of always scoring with my strikers. But now goals have come from all over the team. My RB have scored two real beauties.

Transfers in: Ogude and Leandro (ST from Gremio).

Well Skrtl left....got a message a couple of days into the jan. window that he has left for Spurs for 7mil! Ridiculously low, it might have been his official value but he was such a strong defender for me that he was easily worth twice that! :(

So I responded by offering low fee's for Spurs' RB Walker just to piss them off. Ended up signing a 21 y.o. RB from Crystal Palace (Clyne) for 10mil. who looked good in his first game....untill he picked up a knock and was subbed. Luckily it was only for 7 days. Kelly has been moved to CB to partner Agger. His development had stagnated at RB so I thought it was the right time to switch it up. Coates still isn't good enough due to his poor positioning and tackle speed. Wilson is ok, but lacks Kelly's speed and reactions.

I drew and lost a game in the league so am now 8 points behind first place in 5th position. And through the the QF of the FA Cup after a 4-0 win at Ewood Park. I only managed a 1-1 draw with them the previous game in the league. Also I lead the League Cup semi 1-0 after the first leg. Next up is the away match at Stoke which should be tough. Woul dbe nice to win the/a cup this year as the league is looking less and less likely. The team are in poor form again after a good xmas period.

Not sure what to do with regard to transfers, I've got about 18mil in the bank so not really enough to improve the 1st team. Guess I'll wait and see what offers come along.

Which slider settings do you use?

Which slider settings do you use?

I'm trying out Scorpios sliders, but I play on Professional instead and everything manual.

I think they are good, but might need a bit of tweaking for me.

I think when I get better at the game I will need to change the sliders, but maybe not as I hope to move upto World Class when I can.

Yep that one, I think I put the computer shot error to the same as mine, so 50. but that is all I have changed at the moment.

Transfers in: Ogude and Leandro (ST from Gremio).

Ha, you bought Ogude. Just pray that he doesn't feel unsettled in some time, the ungrateful bastard...

Are you playing him as CAM or what? He can play in other positions, even CF. (Which I'm not sure what it means, I was used to CF being "number 9" and SS being second striker...in PES)

The scripting in this is almost as bad as PES. For some reason the game will NOT let me beat Wolves in the FA cup quarter final. First time of trying I was drawing 0-0, had hit the post 4 times, then in the 90th minute Hunt suddenly turns into Pele and skips past five men before drilling it in from 30 yards. Bullshit.

So annoyed with that, I replayed. Was winning 1-0 and dominated again, then in the 90th minute the CPU awards itself a penalty for minor bodily contact in the box and without me pressing ANY button at all. 1-1.

So I quit again. Third time, I'm 2-0 up with ten minutes to go, dominated the game again, when Defoe pulls off a goal from nothing practically the first time the CPU gets into my half. 2-1 with ten minutes to go, I know what's coming so I try and shut the game down. Then, yep, in the 90th minute and at the end of stoppage time, the CPU has the ball with a defender in his own half, he pumps a 60 yard long ball down the pitch, and for reasons only known by the CPU, Hunt is all alone and through on goal. 2-2, the game ends when I take the kick off. A replay shows Coloccini and Taulor BOTH marking Hunt, but when the ball is kicked, before control switches to them (as they're off screen at this point) they both run away from the ball and from Hunt, leaving him with acres of space to run in and score.

I call bullshit. That was scripted nonsense. It's just predetermined that you can't progress in the cup. Three games replayed, and in all three I get shafted in the 90th minute.

There is definite scripting going on in some of these games. I had the same problem in my 3rd season 1st round Carling cup game against Stoke. Hit the post 3 times, clear in on goal and I couldn't shoot even when mashing the buttons, etc. They beat me 3-0 easily. I didn't mind though as I needed one less competition to deal with but it was pretty blatant.

Placebo..4 mil for Kouyate is a mother-beautiful swoop.

Anybody else run into the problem with multiple transfers forcing you to redeclare the status of offers you have already agreed to and possibly forcing them to fail?

I've run into this too and worry it has tanked a couple of key negoitations.

Yes, but I accept them all if I have listed the player if the price is right. The player is usually sold to the first bidder and the second bidder ends up as a fail.

Does anyone else here thinks that the calendar is messed up? I have a match against Tottenham on March 18th and then I play against Newcastle on the 20th, and I had 11 days to rest after a Champions League match.

I've said this a lot of times, I want to leave Leeds for a bigger club, so far the offers weren't good so I've stayed and built an awesome team, but the Premier League got a bit boring, even when some clubs like Wolverhampton got taken over and might start to build a better team in time.

Last post on Leeds - in my 2nd season I won the FA Cup and the Carling Cup and finished 11th in the league.

My offers were Marseille, Napoli, Benfica, Tottenham and quite a few others. I didn't like how I sorted my transfers so I went back to the previous season and simmed my games (I had qualified for the Euro League through Carling Cup win) and ended up 9th in the league and didn't with the FA Cup. After that my offers were MUCH weaker.

Seems winning of cups gets better offers?

Yes I had to try him out :) I'm playing him as CAM. He hasn't been that great for me yet to be honest. He is strong and a good ball winner, but he isn't making any smart runs. I was expecting him to be more of a threat offensively.

Well I had to make that happen, the ST would move a bit to the right and Ogude was placed off-center, just a bit to the left, and he had the attacking arrow to move to that spot that would open when the ST moves.

I gotta go to work now but when I get back I'll check if I have that custom formation stored and I'll post here the key to that move if you want to try it.

I played a 4-3-3 though, with just one ST...I don't know if you play 2 strikers or what.

That would be really cool, thanks! I play a 4-3-3 as well.

Just beat Lyon 3-0! First goal came from Le Tallec to Clement nice through ball from just outside the box pushing Clement away from goal, hits it first time right under the keeper.
Second and third goals were from PKs, Gradel went down to a clumsy Gassama challenge, and twenty minutes later Le Tallec went down to Kone tackle that could have gone either way.

Both center backs played extremely well, blocking lots of shots and ended up making some amazing tackles. Definitely a big win, although Tolouse are in first at the moment with Lyon 3rd

Away from tbe pitch I have some top prospects in my youth team now, trouble is that they don't seem to want to sign for me :(

Yeah, they only sign on during the transfer periods, unless management specifically calls out a specific youth wanting to leave because he feels he is ready to move up to the senior team. It was frustrating because I raised the salary quite a bit but to no avail. Eventually I said eff it and waited until the transfer period only to sign them on for fractions I was originally willing to throw at them. I am a prospects snob though and won't even waste my time unless their potential is at a minimum, 80.

I signed this cat named Leonardo Bittencourt and he’s proving to be a nifty little midfielder. However, he hasn’t progressed at all. I'm concerned that his lack of growth is because I’m having trouble locking down a consistent position for him.

He’s in the last two months of his first season with us and has played all over my midfield this year.

Anybody got any experience with this fella and how/where to get the best out of him?

Ok...I thought it would be easier to explain with the team management in front of me, but it's not like the PESFan Editor where I could show everything like the arrows and defensive thingy all at once, so I'll just explain a bit more what I already said.

In my formation the 3 midfielders were all in a "straight" line.

There was a CDM that stayed close to the CBs, with high defensive work rate and low attacking work rate, just one "click" to the left...just 'cause.

The CM would be a couple of clicks (I hope you understand what I mean) to the right, to drag whoever is marking him there and opening space, he had amazing stamina so he had both high attacking and defensive work rates, to defend, and to get into the box if the play allowed it (it didn't happen so often for obvious reasons). Oh, and he had a positioning attacking arrow to the right and down, Southeast, so to speak, or the 3 in the numerical keypad (this again, to drag players there, and open space).

The CAM (Ogude) was centered, and one or two clicks to the left, high attacking work rate, and you can choose the defensive one, I changed sometimes. He obviously had a positioning attacking arrow pointing to the eh...East, so he'd go straight to the goal.

But the important thing, more than the CM opening space for Ogude, was the ST, pushed just a bit to the right, and he'd slow the play down (he WAS slow anyway, Becchio, when I created the move) WITH the ball until Ogude started his move, and he was mostly the one to play the through ball.

It was everything about putting the red carpet there so Ogude could walk free and shine for the cameras.

This thing has gotten too long and I don't want to bore the rest so if you have any other questions about this or anything feel free to ask.

Does anyone else keep getting shafted by last minute goals in vital games? It's beginning to piss me off a little bit. Just lost the FA Cup semi final against Chelsea. The commentator says "just 60 seconds left" which I've never heard him say before, then surprise surprise Kaka scores a crazy 25yard header that creeps into the net. I take the kick off, whistle blows, I'm out 2-1. I check the stats and they had 2 shots on target, 2 goals. I know it's Chelsea and all, but scripting?

Prior to that it was a fantastic match, most realistic I've ever played, it was a constant battle to keep my lead, got pegged back, but losing again with the last kick of the game felt a little convoluted.

I seem to be scoring in the last minute more than the opposite team.

I beat Liverpool 0-1 in the league cup suprisingly Rossi with a goal in the last 5 mins :)) but I put on a great defensive display, Liverpool were forced into doing long shots etc. My VP set up Rossi which was nice.

I then drew 1-1 with Chelsea, another tough game they were 1-0 up for a while, I bought on the Ox and he smashed a long range shot that Cech couldn't keep hold of and Van Persie took the follow up.

Really enjoying it, defensively I am getting better and better (hopefully haven't spoken too soon).

I moved to a 4-4-2 aswell and my results have started to get better, but I am turning Arsenal back into "1-0 to the Arsenal" days :)) but I still pass it around well and attack, so I am happy.

Do you change your defensive setting? Unless I'm a goal down or struggling to make headway in a game I'm heavily dominating I'm always on Normal, if I'm leading I will change to Defensive on 75-80 minutes and then all out defensive on 85 minutes, seems to help as I also had a habit of conceding late goals.

Finally had time to start the second season of my Arsenal Career.
Transfers for now, don't know if I sign anyone else on Deadline day,
the highest priority was a right back 2nd man who can play in midfield
and a new striker. Lansbury and Campbell will get a lot time in the cup ties.

Yeah I've found going 'defensive' just like teams in real life do when leading REALLY helps! I, too was conceding late goals at the time but to be honest it was due to my own tactical negligence at the time and my players (such as fullbacks) bombing forward still and players not being as 'cautious' as they should be when we dont NEED to be attacking or take risks.

So now often I go to defensive even if it's in 1st half when I go in lead and actively play a more cautious game with less forward runs, switch to 'possession' if I have good passers/technical players in the team and have been grinding out a LOT of 1-0 wins including quite a few late goals for ME but not much for the opposition.

So what I would say is same as Paul did. Definitely USE your 'attacking-defensive' sliders when chasing or leading a game as it tends to have very powerful effects as expected and much like real life.

I do have to be honest though, that I don't have greatest experience going 'Ultra-defensive' when trying desperately to hold onto a 1-0 lead let's say. "Defensive' seems to work better and even make me a lot of chances as opposition throws men forward and leaves a lot of space open and my players 'cautiously' do make runs and it can often get you that 2nd insurance goal that makes the game over. Ultra defensive on the other hand and the team tries to park the bus which can backfire and also not allow you to penetrate the space and counter-attack as effectively as you'd like to put the game beyond reach.

So I have to say my fav strategy is definitely 'defensive' and of course when matches start and I feel it's a game I should be winning, I keep it on normal for first 20 mins to feel the game and see how I'm doing but then often switch to 'attacking' as I wanna go for the win and the 3 points. Then as soon as I score, I go back to normal or even defensive because you're never more vulnerable than when you've JUST scored and I hate conceding right after! So I always try to preserve and maintain the lead at least for 5-10 mins by going defensive before going back to 'normal' maybe depending on the team, the time and the match.

I think it is awesome how everyone is actually talking about strategy with FIFA and how if effects actual game play. Who would have thought!?

I am in my 4th season now, after I finished 3rd in the Bundesliga, the front office gave me another $16 Million to play with, leaving me with $26 Million during the transfer season. Again, I cleaned house, sold a few players that don't get near enough playing time and then researched for depth and deals.

I had to buy a keeper since mine retired (Ricketts) so I went for Neto from Fiorentina. Tall, young, and tons of talent to bring to my squad. Johnny Russell from Dundee United, great speed, finishing, and physical attributes to dominate when needed. (At least from the stats he was at on FIFA after 3 years of experience, he has been awesome for me!) Malonga Ntsayi from Monaco, great passing, speed, and ability to shoot. I did also pick up three other mid-field players that were versatile, younger and seemed to have great potential for the formation I was playing.

What's interesting is that I was looking up these players on google and they are almost unknown from the brief amounts of info I read up on them. Granted, they are not world class stars, but regardless, they are working out pretty well for my squad.

I am going to play Man U. in the round of 16 of the Champions League, leading the Bundesliga by 1 point, and moving into the second round of the Pokal Cup. Not bad...

Had some great qualifying games in the Champions League, the cpu really brought it it too, scored an awesome long shot to tie up the game in the dying minutes to kill my lead. It sucked, but the replay of the cpu cracking that goal in from distance was class!

Did you get him through the scouting network? I've just signed a guy with that name for my youth team.

Finally got round to finishing season 1 with Newcastle. Loved it overall. I was hovering in and around the relegation zone up until Christmas then went on a bizarre winning streak which included 8 wins in 12 league matches, and reaching the semi final of the FA Cup. My winning streak ended in the final few games with a couple of draws and a 1-5 hammering at the hands of Man City, but a 1-0 win away at Everton on the last day secured 8th place and a Europa league spot which certainly wasn't on the cards earlier in the season. Demba Ba unfortunately broke his ankle in the final minutes of the season.

I've been playing my virtual pro as my main striker to combine CM and VP progress, and my guy struggled initially but went crazy towards the end, ending up with 19 goals which again never looked likely by the halfway stage.

So far in pre-season I've signed Tom Cleverley from Man Utd for £11m and need a right back and right winger. I've also invested £5m in a top scout. Newcastle have a good budget after my squad restructuring so I decided to continue on with them in the absence of any decent managerial offers. Had ones from Fulham, Hannover, NAC Breda.

One thing with sliders that improved my matches no end was reducing line width to 45 which just narrows the teams down more, it closes down the space in midfield nicely and doesn't leave gaps out wide either. But since changing most of my midfielders' attack/defence settings to low defence and high attack, that coincided with my great form.

Thank you! Have not played for a couple days since I have begun to find it pretty boring and repetetive tbh. But I tried something similar last time I played and it worked pretty good. Will give this a try when I get the urge to play again.

Transfer window finally came and I was after Shaqiri (Valued at 12M before transfer window), who had jumped to 16M during the window. Sent an offer of 17 and was told they wanted 28M for him, so I pulled out :D
Ended up buying Legear for 3M and Coutadeur from Lorient to replace Battles. Sold a reserve striker for 3M to offset the Legear price.
Coutadeur scored a hat trick in his first game after signing against Valenciennes (Cup), including this to start the game off: http://www.ea.com/soccer/videos/ugc/105702950 - site shows it as Amateur but it's World Class. Ended up giving up some realllllllly soft goals in that game but a late penalty gave me the win. Unfortunately the penalty also sprained Coutadeur's ankle so he's out for three weeks.

And I don't know if I bought Legear on high form or what but he has an impressive shot, didn't score but everything was just over or right by the bar, from distance too, and he's got impressive speed.

Still trying to get a new right back and another holding midfielder to replace Clement who seems unhappy no matter how much he plays, and he had been playing very well also. Probably my best player aside from Le Tallec.

Currently sitting in 5th, a point out of 4th. Progressing in both cups pretty easily (Haven't played OM, OL, Lille or PSG in either cup), drew with PSG, beat OM and OL, and have drawn and won against Lille. Injuries are starting to pile up though, and it seems every time I get a player back from injury another goes down, but I'm finding some underrated players within my reserves, so I guess it's all good.
