Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

Any suggestions for talented youngsters? bar the likes of Neymar who come wih an extorionate price tag.

Not sure if they are young enough for you (this sounds so wrong) but there is Johnny Russell from Dundee United ($8.5 million) and Moritz Leitner from Dortmund ($16 million). They have done pretty well for me and have very good rankings.

I think a lot of us are cleaning house per se and selling the older players. The only time I might hang on to them is if I have a strong player for a key position, or if I just need someone to cover the position for the season due to an injury. I mainly do it because you can get through a season pretty fast, and before you know it, it is already 3 or 4 years later... age has it's effects and players retire.

On another note, I am having a hell of a bad beginning of a season. Acquired some new talent for the team but the chemistry must be off because I have better players in key positions, but the chances created are not nearly the same. It might be just me, but I am currently 1-4-1 (w-d-l). 3 goals for and 3 against. Yikes!

I am playing around with formation, and then also taking a deeper look at who I have in those positions since obviously something is not working. Very frustrating needless to say. Which brings me to wonder about team chemistry in general? In the Ultimate team mode, Chemistry is a big factor, I have not seen anything about team chemistry in my career mode though! Pretty strange if you ask me... unless I am missing something?

Started a new Arsenal career now that I can play the game properly and at the moment after a good few games lie 4th in the table only 5 points off of the top.

I spent a fortune on Hazard and on Podolski, I wanted to get signings that we are linked with in the real world. Hazard scored on his debut and also in the following game. Podolski I got in the last hour of the transfer deadline, I brought him on in the last 20 mins of a game with the Ox and the Ox played him in and with his first touch scored a goal. Also brought in Michael Owen as a bit of backup and on his first full start he also scored which was nice.

Sold Arshavin, Rosicky, Almunia, Chamack and another I cant remember and loaned out a few others.

Been playing well, beat Tottenham in the League cup and League so that was nice. Also had a belter of a game with Liverpool I won 4-3. Man Utd beat me 2-1 and I drew with Chelsea 1-1 who are at the top of the table.

Trying to play the Ox, Miyaichi, Frimpong, Jenkinson and my VP as much as possible and usually bring them on against lessor opposition in the league or in the league cup. They are all doing well at the moment.

Enjoying it very much, Manager mode is great this season, all of the little touches really make it stand out. Player injuries, Player notices to you, match reports, newspaper stories, transfers. These all make it a great experience.

I'm gradually offloading older players too, I'm currently about to sign a Dutch u-21 player (totally forgotten his name though!) for £4m. He's slow but has the ariel threat ability, should make a good long term replacement for Coloccini. Oddly, Demba Ba can't get in my team this season, he's rated at 80 but somehow makes little impact for me. Think he scored 7 goals from alot of starts last season. My VP is his strike partner and he knocked in 20 despite being rated at 74 so far. He's been replaced by Xisco, who came back from a season long loan but seems to find the net every time he plays.

Just started a CM with Arsenal myself. I must say it is the most difficult team I've played with when it comes to defending. The CB's are constantly left alone. Have you noticed this as well? Just got hammered 5-0 against Man Utd.

I noticed that too, even when I tried the Djourou-Mertesacker-Koscielny-Vermaelen combination. (I briefly tried a CM with Arsenal, but I'm focused on the one with Leeds right now)

About the calendar thing, it's happening again, so I screencapped it so you could see. That League cup match could've been arranged a day later, and the players would have been able to rest properly between all the matches.

Absolutely loving career mode this year, only got the game Monday but I'm through to the end of January with Newcastle. Currently sitting mid-table, about 13th, had some bad performances and some good ones. Defending is doing my head in at times, Dembele put four past me in a 4-2 loss at Craven Cottage.

Transfers seem much better, Blackburn were taken over and signed Charlie Adam for £11m and Ben Arfa off me for £12m both in Jan. I've signed Craig Dawson from West Brom and Marc Albrighton from Villa.

Ba and Best have been brilliant together up front, my team is this: Krul; Simpson, S.Taylor, Colo (c), Santon; Albrighton, Cabaye, Tiote, Jonas; Ba, Best. Got a few bids for Colo and Jonas but so far rebuffed them all, got about £18m to spend though following the HBA sale so might dip into the transfer market in the final few days of Jan.

I don't think Arsenal are that much worse at leaving space for teams. Most of the time I give a goal away it is through my lack of concentration and me being rubbish at tactical defending.

Some games I get used to tactical defending and think I have sussed it and then the next game I make such stupid mistakes! really annoying, but all adds to the fun and being more of a challenge.

I have been playing some games today with a friend offline and because he doesn't play Fifa much he is basically on all assisted and on the old defending system, it is great for practicing but I have only won a couple of games, so hard to beat somebody on all assisted and with the old pressure system.

I have changed to Semi shooting and the rest manual due to being rubbish at shooting. But I will go back to manual soon.

Know what you mean. I've had the game for months now and still defend like shit from time to time. It's just so damn hard to get the ball from the CPU. If you try to tackle they'll sidestep you and be through on goal. Sometime they can almost walk the ball in to the net.

Finding it pretty hard to play a CM with Arsenal, I get to sentimental haha :) I've sold Almunia and Squillaci because I don't feel for them at all but that's it :)

I've just started a career mode with CSKA Moscow.

I've been quite busy in the transfer market so far, signing Kolarov, Van Der Wiel, Reus, Khedira and a few free agents. While I didn't want to, I've also sold Honda to Atletico Madrid for £24 million as the offer was too good to refuse. I'm hoping to make one more signing before the transfer window ends in a few weeks.

My pre season was a mixed bag with 1 win, 1 draw and 1 defeat. To make matters worse, Dzagoev picked up an injury in one of the games and will be out for 3 months. However, I started the season well with a 3-0 win over Dinamo Moscow with a goal from Doumbia and a brace from Vagner Love.

Hi there folks, I got my copy of FIFA 12 a few days ago and have already started a manager carreer at the helm of Celta de Vigo in Spain's 2nd div. I'm loving the CM this year, truly immersive. Couple that with the gameplay, youth scout system and the new defending and it's jolly good fun.

I'm already scouting Argentina, got rid of a few older/not up to par players and brought a few players who were out of a contract to the club. My main signing was 27-year-old keeper John Smith, a free agent at the beginning of the game with 77 rating, much better than the best keeper in my original squad which is rated 66. His reflexes are much better and it's helped in a few matches already. My debut game was a friendly against Juventus (!) and we were able to squeeze a 1-0 victory by scoring a penalty and defending very patiently. Had a couple of nice chances too. Then went on to draw the other 2 friendlies against Leicester and an unknown team from god knows where who tied the match right before the whistle. Overall, we're looking good for promotion.

Despite having a better side than last season I've started almost as badly as I did in my opening games in season 1, though the fixture list hasn't been overly kind, beat Wolves and lost to Bolton, before drawing 0-0 at home to Liverpool and then losing 0-2 away at Man City. I had the better of the play overall but got done over by my own horrible defending, sometimes I can randomly make my defenders run all over the shop and allow a striker a clear path ro goal without having to do almost anything!

So deadline day passed and I spent the last of my funds, £4m on Philipp Wollscheid from German side FC Nuremberg, a promising young CB with the ariel threat ability (and stands at nearly 6ft5), and £7m for local rivals Sunderland's Connor Wickham. Both seem promising. Hopefully things will pick up with some easier fixtures and a Europa League campaign.

I love how the youth development is also coming along, the longer you leave them being scouted the more accurate the reports of their potential become, but then the bigger chance if them being snapped up by other clubs from under your nose. I now have a full youth squad of players signed up between the ages of 14-16 and scouting them for longer should give a much better idea whether they're worth signing a pro contract or not. I've signed up a couple of German players aged 17 into the full squad, their potential's been narrowed down to between 73-85 so they're exceptional prospects who could be beneficial to the team or sold on for millions. I also let go a number of youth players who seemed promising, but further reports from the youth team narrowed their potential down to going no higher than about 70.

Great game mode this year.

Any way in Carear mode to stop so many CPU transfers in a season for me personally is the only fault in the game !

Noticed that too, but I am wondering if it has anything to do with the transfer difficulty setting when you start up a career. Has anyone tried maxing it out?

I've started a CM with Schalke and noticed something strange. In the pre season games the players workrate-arrows were not set to their default and the team played fantastic football. My LB for example had both high defence and offense and were a constant threat with his runs and crosses. First league game of the season something felt different. I went to check the workrate and it was now set to default for everyone. So my LB was now medium in offense. Pretty weird.

I check and change my tactics + formation before every game, mostly because I like to tinker, but also because it's an area that's still a bit wonky in career mode.

Despite a lot of improvements, weird things seem to happen in CM as far as tactical consistency.

Yes I've started to do so now as well. It's more fun that way no doubt. Before I just used whatever tactic that was already chosen.

To those of you who are trying to find a fun team to play CM with I can really recommend Schalke 04. Lots of young talented players and good striking power in the form of Raúl and Huntelaar.

I tend to stick to a basic shape/formation that I want my team to play (it's a slightly skewed 4231), then prior to kick-off I alter the Roles and use the white arrows to adjust depending on how my opponent lines up.

So for example, if my opponent has three central midfielders, I might give my CAM a backwards arrow to drop in and help out. Or if my opponent has someone playing in the hole behind my midfield, I might change my RCM to an RDM and instruct him to drop deep to mark him. Things like that.

Not specific to CM, but in terms of weird things with tactical consistency (or inconsistency), I'm still fairly convinced that editing a Custom Formation during a match and saving over the slot it was already in can sometimes not take effect. Sometimes it appears to just continue treating the formation as it was before you changed it. Don't know if that's just me?

I'm halfway through my first season with Villa and, sad to say, doing no better results-wise than McLeish! The transfer window has just opened so I'll see what I can do to turn it around... Stephen Ireland is unhappy and will gladly be shown the door, so that should bring in a few million, although it cost me over £2m just to bring Jean II Makoun back from loan!

I could probably use a ball-winner in midfield, and the defence is in need of some serious re-building. I have my eye on Nathaniel Clyne that some of you have mentioned, but might delay that attempt until the summer.

Clyne is great, he belts up and down the touchline in attack and defence. I'd again really recommend Maher from AZ, he's developing into a good player so far. He seems miles better than 69 rating!

As for DM, I went for Flamini in season 1, seems like AC really wanted to offload him so I snapped him up for £3.5m. That said, Tiote has developed into a top player for me and keeps Flamini out of the side, as I like to play Cleveley or Maher alongside a stronger midfielder.

1st post in this section ever ha! Anyhow 10 games in with my cm with liverpool and what a breath of fresh air this mode is, immersive, interactive and just fun to play. Only signed one player during the summer and that was Vossen from genk, sent Caroll on loan to roma. But i'm picking up quite a few injuries, Adam out for the season, 7 goals Suarez out for a month have had Lucas and Gerrard back from injury. Recalled shelvey for cover but will sign a utility type player and maybe another forward during the next window.

I'm midtable after 3 losses, 4 draws and 3 wins on the trot now and out the league cup. One thing that i've noticed is the difference between teams so far which is good.

I bought Clyne for this season after reading about him here, and he's awesome, Daprela as my LB is doing almost as good as Clyne, they both go up amazingly well, and they've both scored in this season.

I tried to sell Carcela-Gonzalez when the season began, but didn't get a convincing offer, and I wasn't going to give him away easily, despite being a 78 Overall he's performed very well, I bought Reus to play in him position as a starter, but I've had to use him as RCM too and even if he's not really meant to play there I've gotten advantage of his dribbling skills to create chances there.

The thing is, his morale is really low (like in red), how am I supposed to win him back?

So I just lost Sako (Knee), Boateng (Keeps getting concussions), Aubameyang (Knee), Chandler (Shoulder), Coutadeur (Ankle), Lemoine (Ankle) and Legear (Another Knee injury for him).
So I'm having to play fringe players and I recalled every loan, fell to sixth place with just a few months to go, and most of the injuries are a month minimum.
