Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

I really don't understand how you have that injury settings and get just those injuries, and I think I have a value under the default 50, and had players injured for 8 months, while I had like 3 other players with minor injuries (3 weeks or so...)

(I have to finish something now so I can't check FIFA, I'll come back later and edit this, to post my injury settings)

I have only ONE player (My GK) who has the 'injury prone' trait. Maybe that's a big factor.

Also injuries tend to happen more in 2nd half of season it seems than first even if you're playing just as many games in 1st half if not more, since you might be eliminated from a cup by then.

I play on world class with mostly the default settings apart from a few exceptions.

CPU Customization

Pass Error 65
Shot Error 60
Run Frequency (60) --> This applies for USER settings as well.
Full-back getting forward ---> (60) ---> This applies for my settings (user) as well.

Injury Frequency 99 (BIG difference between this and 100, try it! It's optimal!)
Injury Severity 85

The injury frequencies are also set for both I and the CPU.

And most recently after having seen the AI GK receive Man Of the Match award for like 4 matches in a row with outstanding save after save from mediocre keepers like Osasuna's, Genk's and Michael Rensing to name a few while they score one cheap goal from one shot all match, I've decreased the AI GK ability to 45 and so far it seems a lot more realistic. No longer are they the only reason the AI can get a point off me and here and there they do make tiny mistakes like not fully covering near post (just like not ALL goalkeepers ALWAYS do this perfectly anyway).

I still haven't seen them fumble a cross but even the very best keepers in the world make mistakes like that from time to time so I'd like to see a little more variety in terms of 'mistakes' (not huge ones but minor ones) both from my and their goalkeepers.

So far, the 45 GK ability for AI is serving well though. Twice more, the AI goalie since then has been MoM but I have no problem with that, sometimes that happens but it was annoying when EVERY match it seemed, that's the only way the Manager Mode AI is dealing with me dominating the game. Super goalies.

Loving CM mode! Am 4th in La Liga, and right now have a huge return leg coming up against Koln who manage to shock Vicente Calderon as they were ABSOLUTELY dominated the whole match with me hitting the woodwork 3 times, Rensing having the match of his life and making unbelievable saves and then Podolski lashing out a header from a clearance from a defender to have 1 shot on goal and a late winner in Madrid!

Now I must get revenge in Cologne or I might risk not getting out of the Europa league group altogether!

The messed up thing is what I already said, the board expects me to reach the FINAL of Europa League when it involves teams like Man Utd, Arsenal, Juventus and many other good ones!

:WORSHIP:Could you also please post your controller settings? Do you play on normal or slow speed??

Normal speed bro.

Controller settings are all assisted except crossing which is semi.

@Perfectio, while my own squad only has 1 injury prone player and that may be a factor, I regularly check the injury list for all La Liga teams to keep up to date with who's out and who's not and most teams average only ONE injury at a time. A couple have 2 and Sporting Gijon was the only one with 3 players out at one time. This leads me to believe there just aren't enough injuries for neither me nor the AI and that's why I play with such high settings. Hopefully the 99/89 settings now combined with 2nd half of season will see most teams have 3-4 players out at any given time (One long term, couple more short-term, etc.)

Thanks bro, with your Sliders n settings the game plays wonderful.

Hey people. I'm new here, but have been a FIFA fan forever. I'm in my 4th season with my virtual pro in career mode. This is my career so far Perth Glory: Apps:31 Goals:30 Assists:12. And won the A-League with Perth. AC Milan: Apps:39 Goals:52 Assists:21. Didn't win anything. And they sold Pato so I left. Real Madrid: Apps:33 Goals:38 Assists:8. Good year, few injuries and won La Liga Real Madrid: Haven't started yet. I play on legendary, but everything on auto, but I do use tatical defending.

So after 3 seasons at Madrid I managed to beat Barcelona to the Liga title & Spanish Cup, managing to stay unbeaten (apart from collapsing against Juventus in the Champions League last 16).
Injuries really racked up in the last couple of months, so was worried I'd blow my chance, however I can now look forward to my new challenge...

CM with Charlton Athletic(inc my VP)
Charlton are my second team, and my mission is to get them back in the Premier League (and maybe Europe) within 5 years. I know a reasonable amount about the squad IRL, so hope my plan works!

Christ, the transfer budget is a world away from what I had at Madrid! Going from £200m a season with £750k wages, to £1.5m with £20k wages. Luckily the squad didn't need too much work, but I wanted to bring in several players for the inevitable injuries (I've already lost Danny Green - one of my wingers - for 3 months with a broken rib).
I quite like having to scour various leagues for players, and have taken advantage of approaching Man Utd to loan 2 youth players. I've managed to net spend £450k and bring in 2 extra strikers, 3 CMs (all from the EPL), a 1st choice keeper (that James White who is always in the free agents pool), and cover for both RB & LB. All are capable of claiming first team places, so will see what happens.

I'm hoping for automatic promotion, although the board are predicting top 5 for us.

I'm only 3 games in, picking up 4 points from 2 league games, and knocking Crystal Palace out of the League Cup. It was nice to see (hear?!) the commentary discuss the Charlton / Palace rivalry during the game. There's also been some discussion about when Charlton used to be a top 10 side in the Premier League days, but I'm hoping it isn't mentioned in every game!

SOMETHING'S WRONG

I ended up second in the league, just one point behind United (stupid loss against City), won the FA Cup, and the Community Shield when the season began.

I'm a 5 stars manager, and only lost 2 games in the league this season. I even get the Manager of the Season award, by the 2nd season in a row.

I go to check the offers, so I can finally change to a bigger club, and what's the best I've got? SUNDERLAND.
No disrespect to Sunderland, but I expected a club like Real Madrid.

The thing is, Sunderland only has 20 million to spend, and from what I've seen the squad would need a lot of work, aging players and some others not good enough to play, while staying with Leeds I'd have 32m plus all the players I was planning to sell before the season ended, I could easily perfect my squad to have more than 15 "starters".

I need to improve my RB, Jean didn't impress as CDM so I'll check the market, and maybe another CB, Khumalo's getting slow and isn't reacting fast enough, even if his tackling has always been pretty good.

I dunno, I have a save where I continue with Leeds, and another one waiting before I get the offers.

Hi,

I was wondering if you get many job offers from clubs that have been taken over in the previous season. Does anyone know anything about that? I'm currently playing with Stades Rennes in the French League and apparently St. Etienne have just been taken over. I would love to be able to get an offer from them next season. You know, manage some mediocre club and still be able to buy a couple of star players, with overal stats of, say 83+.

I love career mode and I play it exclusively. Still, I'm having trouble staying focussed on one club for the entire season. I nearly always get restless and want to try on another team, which I can shape and mould and make my own. How do you guys do that, playing all those seasons with one team? Do you sim a lot of games? I play all of them (8 minutes per half), except the friendlies at the beginning of the season. Maybe I should start simming more... But I don't know, for me nothing can compete with the first two months, when you're building a team, buying and selling players.

Liverpool F.C- Season 3

-----------------Reina---------------------
-Ramos----Hummels------Pique-------Enrique*-
-----------------Alonso---------------------
--------Krasic-----------Downing------------
-----------------Gerrard---------------------
----------Suarez--------Llorente-------------

Subs: Doni, Kelly, Lucas, Adam, Henderson, Bellamy, Carroll.

*Enrique is out for another 3 months with a anterior cruciate ligament injury (is out for 7 months, already served 4 of those months) so Kelly comes into Left Back and Mikel San Jose comes onto the bench.

-Premier League: 3rd (Level with Chelsea in 2nd, 3 points behind Manchester City in 1st)
-Carling Cup: Eliminated (3rd round vs Manchester United)
-F.A. Cup: 3rd round vs TBC
-Champions Cup: Eliminated (qualifiers vs Panithanikos)
-Euro League: 1st in Group A (need a draw in final game to secure qualification to knockout stages)

Not too worried about being 3 points off the pace in the Premier League, as Manchester City still have to play the Big 4 and i've played most of the big 4 now, plus I still have to play City again so hopefully i'll get the points. Carling Cup was expected, because it was against United and I put a weakened team out to save fatigue. I was almost through to the knockout stages of the Euro League, however against Anzhi I gave away a last minute penalty (which Eto'o slotted home) which means I still need a point to go through, but fortunately, the team I have to play are bottom of the group having only got a point from 5 games.
In the up-coming transfer market I plan on selling Fernando Llorente and buying a top, top quality striker and I also plan on snapping up Frank Fielding from Derby who's levelled up to an 82 and is only worth £5,000,000.

I haven't seen many teams get taken-over (mainly Aston Villa, a couple of others that I can't recall), but I've never gotten offers from them, the offers I get are weird, this season I even got a really small club with a ridiculously low transfer budget, and they were offering me a wage of just 32k a week, I'm gettin 68k at Leeds (not that I care about that though).

I enjoy building the team like you say, I prefer the tactical part though, transfers annoy me a bit, I get what I need and that's it. In the second part of the season I like to see what I've done, noticing details and checking everything, maybe even try some alternatives if I need to change mid-game or something, plus planning what I could do for the next season if I stay.

I love transfers, but that's also because I nearly always choose clubs that have some weak spots in their existing team, that I have to tackle. I have no interest in playing with Man U or Real Madrid, where everybody is a star and it doesn't really matter who has the ball. I do have a "minimum" when it comes to overall stats. When playing in one of the bigger leagues, I don't want my starting striker to be "worse" than say a 75 or 76, and I don't want any of my starters to be under 70 overall. Preferably 75, if that is at all doable (except for the LB and RB). It obviously depends on the club. Of course I know that overall stats are not sacred, but I still like to keep some sort of minimum as a general rule. I do prefer to have 1 or 2 star players with 80+ stats with whom you're more likely to decide games.

Anyway, to keep this up, I have to make use of transfers.

Finished my third season with Malaga. Finally won my first title by winning the league three points clear of Barca. Reached the semi finals of the cup and got eliminated by Chelsea in the last sixteen of the CL. I was also named manager of the year.

Got some decent offers from other clubs but thanks to the crazy CPU transfers most of the teams are more or less destroyed. I have no interest in managing Man City with Wilshere in their team and Inter have almost no real stars left. I'll keep à second save and reload à few times to see if I get better offers. But I guess I'll stay with Malaga and try to win the CL.

Congrats on the achievements!

In my CM Manchester City has both Wilshere and Song, it's weird. To be honest, I'd change for a team that has Wilshere without even thinking about it...well maybe if it was Barca I wouldn't do it lol.

EDIT: Got to the first friendly of the pre-season, started with my base team, I ended last season using one of the wingers as a LB, with great Marcelo-like results.

I bought a couple of players (a CB and 2 CM so far) which I'll include in a Spoiler like PLF requested, and now there's gonna be a tough battle in midfield for those 2 remaining spots! Ogude is cemented there, they'll have to fight to the death for the CDM and CM spots, and Jean has managed to make me like him, he needs to get more tackles and interceptions, but tactically he does a good job and with the ball he's very good.

Now, for the transfers, I had a 34m budget, and so far it's like this: (it's really early in the pre-season like I said, so there will be more changes, even if I'm already a bit short on money)

IN:

- 8.9m - Suchý - CB - 81 Overall - big, powerfull defender, scored from a header in his debut.

- 10.6m - Kayal - CM - 80 Overall - really fast, really agile, good on the ball.

- 8.7m - Ledley - CM - 79 Overall - not as fast as Kayal, but better vision and passing.

OUT:

- 4.9M - Lansbury - CM - 77 Overall - was ok the first couple of seasons, didn't shine the one before, and even got into the reserves last season.

I have 11m now to spend with his transfer, I'll have to think a lot about my next move, but the team's looking great.

Just started my fourth season with Malaga.

Players out: Jesus Gámez, Camacho, Kelvin (Back to Porto after loan deal expired)
Players in: Van der Wiel, Schweinsteiger, Chicharito, Reus.

Got off to a great start by winning the Super Cup against Barca. The goal for this season is to win the CL. It will of course depend on injuries. With a full strength squad I have an amazing team right now. There is so much movement up front and so many players that can score goals. Key players are Dzeko and Tioté. With these two on the pitch I can beat anyone.

Current starting XI:

--------------Chech---------------
Van der Wiel--Sakho--M'Bia--José Enrique
------Schweinsteiger--Tioté----------
Dzsudzsak------Honda---------Cazorla
--------------Dzeko---------------

@ Aidan,

About the club offers, does anyone else think it has more to do with the club you are at than your manager rating? I won the double with Liverpool and got offers from similar placed teams across Europe (but not a huge club like Barca/Milan, etc). And my rating isn't 5* as it was my 1st season.

The game might still be reading Leeds as a 3,5* (or whatever they are) club when offering you another job. So Sunderland is a step up which is because of your high manager rating. Might be worth a try in a backup save to test it out to see if you can then step up another * rating in teams...

If it helps... When I finished my 3rd year at Madrid (winning 1 league, 1 CL & 2 league cups) I was offered Arsenal, Dortmund, Celtic & Lyon.

I'm sure I won't be getting the same offers with my League One CM!

Man, I don't have that previous save where I could choose from the different offers.

I stayed with Leeds since I had built an amazing team and I improved it a bit more now.

Signed another winger since I was going to use one of them as a LB (he can play there), and a Korean RB, pretty fast.

I thought about it back then, before your comments, the offers being related to the team instead of your rating as a manager, but like I said, my Leeds was a lot better than Sunderland or Palermo (the other "good" offer, they have MARCELO and Martín Cáceres).

EDIT: Wilfried Zaha has suffered a Medial Collateral Ligament and will be out for about 4 months.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!

So I'm just about to finish my 2nd season in CM mode with Atletico.

It's been a season of massive success! With only 4 games remaining, I've only lost twice and am sitting 3rd level on points with Real Madrid and already ensured of CL football and hell even finshing 3rd (so group stages of CL) as Valencia are like 13 points below me. The Big 2 in Spain have basically turned into the Top 3 now! :)

On top of that while the title is outta reach and Barca are 7 points ahead of us and Real, I can still beat our biggest rivals to 2nd spot and make them finish 3rd as the Madrid derby is the very next match! We're playing it away at Bernabeu but with Zlatan out (Their top scorer and La Liga's joint top scorer along with my Hulk ;) ) and Real still involved in latter stages of CL and Copa Del Ray, there's a chance they will rest some players and I'll have my chances.

It certianly won't be easy but I'll be doing my best to beat them and grab that 2nd place. If I lose this match however, I might just play my youngsters in the remaining 3 matches to gain some experience now that there's not much more to play for and no pressure. Might even play around with a 4-4-2 formation which is something I've wanted to try as the 4-3-3 works great for my WF's but Falcao after 2 full seasons is just not cutting it as the main CF in the middle despite having almost all the tools. Will definitely sell him if I get a decent offer and might even put him up for sale myself....

Placebo, EatonTJ and others who've been playing, you know that old bug where if you edit formations in the main team management screen, it can make your game buggy? You're fine as long as you DONT edit it and just select a default 4-4-2 let's say and only edit (Go to custom one) IN-matches right?

Because I wanna give 4-4-2 a try but don't want this CM that I've spent so much time on going down the shithole as it often does when you fuck around with formations, etc.

My understanding is that it's all fine as long as in the MAIN team management screen, your team is set to a default formation and then IN-game, you change it to a 'custom' one which is the first thing I do in every match I start and so far no problems.

Halfway through my second season with Liverpool. Was really struggling in the first 10 matches, conceding silly goals and losing points. City opened up an 8 point gap at the top, with me 6th with about 3 points between 7th (Arsenal and 2nd (Chelsea).

My biggest issue was losing Skrtl to injury and replacing him with Coates. He's strong in the air and good at tackling but his positioning is pisspoor leaving him flatfooted and too high up the pitch in every match a couple of times.

Another issue was that Carrol/Bellamy/Kuyt were all injured and I had to buy and loan two new strikers. Both are fast and direct, but that meant my system got screwed as their natural inclination to attack and dribble meant I would often lose the ball and concede possesion before the rest of the players could join the attack.

After 10 games I was 8 points behind and 3rd in the CL group it was really looking bad. Fortunately Skrtl and Carrol returned from injury and a sequence of clean sheets and 1-0 wins got me through the CL in 2nd place and got me to within 3 points of City...with the other big clubs all with similar points. I played a game more and drew and was 2nd, they all played their game in hand and I was 6th again it's that close!

Now it's the 2nd of jan. 2013, 20 games played. Skrtl had been angling for a transfer having not settled in. Same as last season, however now the board have said they have agreed to sell him and he is off so my defensive strength will be in tatters again. Will now really have to think about what to do as Coates isn't good enough, Carra is past it and Wilson doesn't look up to the job either. Kelly hasn't been developing at RB this season (81 overal now) so I might move him to CB and look for a good new RB. I've been using Coady as a stand-in RB as Flanno is on loan and Johnson plays at RM. I tried Shelvey for one game, but his attacking instincts meant the right was left hopelessly exposed.

Also Gerrard has started moaning about not getting enough games, he is also on the wane and hasn't got the stamina to last a whole game, let alone be a 1st team regular so he might be off aswell if he doesn't keep his mouth shut! I recently signed 4 CM's from the youth squad so they could take his place and audition for the rest of the season for probably a single squad place. Shelvey, after coming back from his loan spell last season has really impressed me in the games he has played so he will likely be the new guy to take the DM position from Adam. He's a lot like Gerrard with his instincts to attack which helps. Downing has been coming on as a sub for the AM position as I signed two LW in the summer. Both are good and probably better options than Downing tbh.

Just finished my fist season as the mighty boro, finished 2nd bout 6 points behind West Ham and a few points ahead of Birmingham City, So a good end to the season. Got to the 1/4 finals of the FA Cup and got knocked out by Sunderland in a heated local derby that finished 2-1.

I've gotta say that this is the first fifa that has kept me interested. Right at the end of the first transfer window mcmanus said he wanted to leave even though he was a first team player, so he was quickly sold back to celtic. I also went through two tough patches where injuries seriously caused me problems, the first was with the defenders as bates, hines and williams all picked up knocks of various lengths and meant that i had to recall gibson and grounds from their loan deals and the other was when both my first team strikers emnes and macdonald were out for a few weeks and it meant i had to switch up formation and play franks on his own (which helped his development).

budget for transfers and wages went up due to the promotion and I've brought wheater back to his hometown and he received motm on his first outing in a friendly against valencia that we won 2-1

I think it's fixed. I've been leaving my Custom Formation assigned when save/quitting now (since the update), and it hasn't broken yet. Although I'm not very far into the career, so it's early to say for sure.

I'm thinking about leaving my CM, since I got a nice offer from Manchester City, but the squad isn't balanced, great starting XI, but the substitutes suck, and everyone in the market is already old.

So I thought I could play one starting directly with Real Madrid, but I'd like to know how to disable the transfers in the first season and get the Champions Cup from the beginning too, does anyone know here?

You can't get the CL in 1st season unless you're on PC. Are you?

@Placebo and Nerf, thanks a lot for the info. I think I still won't mess with it but at least can now without hesitation change to the default 4-4-2 or another formation and not keep the original formation the team starts CM mode with and generally feel safer about it.

Thanks guys.

I assume the bug is still there (I've read about people still getting it, although one of the updates was supposed to fix at least some issues of goalies being replaced by "-1231243211551" which was definitely one of the formation problems that would occur) so I follow the "rules" you referred to above, and I've never had an issue over 4 seasons never simming a game.

My team's formation/tactics remains unchanged from the default at every screen up until the pre-game match menu, and from there I switch my formations around. Doing this, I've never seen a formation/player-disappearing/turning-into-a-Gk-or-number bug occur.

Just be careful whenever you save a formation because it will then become the team's default formation. Just make sure to change it back to the default formation before you save your game.

It's not that big a deal to do the workaround, it actually makes it more interesting to manually pick your formation/tactics before every game because it forces me to at least do some managerial work and try and pick the best counter formation to my opponent. At least for me.
