Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

Was Zaragoza the best offer you had after being sacked by Liverpool?

I wonder if the board will accept a sale on your behalf in that scenario? Does anyone know?

This happened to me in my first season, Robert Snodgrass handed a transfer request, I got offers from Celtic but rejected them 'cause I wanted to keep the player, and the board told me they were going to sell him anyway.

It pissed me off, but I managed to get a good replacement back then, and he's been a starter ever since :SMUG:. (Aleksandr Ryazantsev, if anyone's interested)

I thought in FIFA12, you can ONLY get sacked at the end of the season anyway and not during. Correct?

Oh, I dunno, I'm new to FIFA tbh, and since I got that message in the first season telling me they were reviewing my position because of the recent losing run I thought you could get sacked at any point.

Too bad if that's the case though, it'd be more realistic.

I had FC Groingen, Lokomotiv Moskow, Blackburn and two others...Zaragoza interested me most though

Blackburn seems to have money in my CM (they were interested in Fernando Torres in 2013 for christ's sake...), Zaragoza, if it's realistic, shouldn't, so it'll be a nice challenge I assume. Good luck with that.

Does anyone sometimes find top teams having an off day against you? I had a run of three fixtures away to Man City, then Man Utd, then at home to Chelsea. I got spanked 0-3 against both Manchester teams but then easily beat Chelsea 4-0. I was able to waltz into their box on numerous occasions, and they kept aimlessly lumping the ball down to my defence and giving the play away.

Previous occasions against Chelsea on Professional they've torn my a new one, so I don't know what happened to them. Total meek surrender!

Been mucking around with an app for my phone, uploaded straight to youtube :)

For anyone who's in need of a winger and can't spend too much, Yassine El Ghanassy (75 Overall, at least he's 75 in 2014) from K.A.A. Gent, cheap, FAST, agile, skillful.

Don't make him work too much on defending, leave him up there and he'll tear the full back apart.

I picked up Robbie Rogers and Sasha Kljestan in January when I was having troubles, both were great buys.

The season ends, I stay with them, check the Squad to see what I'll need for the new season, Beckham isn't there anymore, he had like 3 years of contract so that's not it, I look for him in the transfers thingy but nothing, he retired, and none told me anything about it, that SUCKS.

Beckham for me in 2013 is 38 and considering retirement, he has just under 2 years left on his contract I believe.

I guess you didn't treat him as nicely as I did ;) Just retired for me and got this message the day before the last match of the season:

Just about to start my run-in (7 games to go, 2 points behind City) and the injuries are starting to pile up....again. :( / :) I now have 7 injuries, 4 of which are from 1 to 6 weeks, 3 are for 3 months.

My defense has been decimated. For most of the season it was going well, with Agger and Skrtl only out for short periods early on. But last month Carra got a training injury (my first one of the season) and he was out for 4 months. Then within 2 or 3 matches both Skrtl and Coates each got 3 month injuries, leaving only Agger as a recognised CB. Kelly will have to fill in with Flanno and Johnson sharing the RB position.

Suarez is also out injured, 3 weeks I think. Downing is still recovering for another week. Kuyt might be injured again for a couple of weeks (can't remember tbh).

So it's going to be a tough run-in (not sure if I want to win the league the first time of asking, but will give it a go!)

Yeah injury sliders work a treat in this, I kept getting longer term injuries so I reduced the injury severity down to 55 and now I'm getting more realistic ones. Players tend to be out anywhere between a few days to a few weeks. The odd one, like Cabaye and Obertan however, are out with rutptured tendons and broken legs so it's a nice balance.

Thankfully my Virtual Pro is so far unscathed after a battering tackle from Terry. Knocked me halfway across the park :P

I'm pretty sure Newcastle couldn't cope with missing my prolific 4 goals in 17 appearances.....:CONFUSE:

:CONFUSE:

But he was the captain! and I kept praising him even if he didn't have a man of the match performance. He was a key part of my play, I even bought a RB specially to make runs and stuff so he wouldn't have to, he could just pass and take crosses. What else was I supposed to do?

I...I'm kinda shocked, to be honest, specially since he's like my idol. :COAT:

Back to the present now, I simulated a match for the first time last night, it was against Ajax in the Champions League (Champions' Cup feels SO wrong...), and I thought it was a group stage match, and I was already qualified, otherwise I would've played it.

Boy was I wrong, it was the 1st leg of the Round of 16, in Amsterdam. I lost 3-0.

I get to the 2nd leg, in my stadium (Ivy Lane :S, I didn't know the name of the stadium when I started the CM, I don't know if you can change it now), Ajax plays the possession game, I'm apparently cool with that, and I go for the fast counter-attacks, with El Ghanassy as the main threat, he gets 2 1-on-1 in a matter of 20 minutes, misses the first one, scored the other one, 1-0, couldn't do much more than that in the first half.

The second half was more of the same, Ajax keeping the ball, (their three midfielders are pretty good) and Leeds rushing to get the counter-attacks, now with McCormack more involved, scoring the 2-0. (oh I forgot to mention, my starting ST, Becchio, was returning from an injury, I didn't want to risk him*)

[* = How does everyone manage this stuff, players returning from injuries? Becchio even told me he was cleared by the medical staff, that he'd love to play, but it was up to me, and the press said that Leeds missed him when I lost that match]

As much as I pushed and pressured to get the ball and create chances, I couldn't score the third, and that's the end of the Champions League for Leeds United.

The board asked me when the season began to get to the knockout rounds, so I guess this'll do.

Blimey I don't know what's happened, after struggling through November with three defeats and a draw, including two 3-0 batterings to both Manchester clubs, December has seen me pull away from the relegation scrap altogether and I'm now sitting pretty in 10th place.

First, my Newcastle side thrashed Chelsea 4-0, then got a 0-0 draw away at Norwich, and have followed that up by some more shock thrashings. First I despatched winless Swansea 3-0 at St James' Park, followed by my best ever win, 6-0 at home to West Brom. My virtual pro weighed in with a hat trick, Ben Arfa and Piazon getting the other goals.

December has then seen me win 3 and draw 1, scoring 13 and conceding 0! Marooned in mid-table but a sniff of the Europa League is in the air now. I can't really reinforce my squad during January though, spent most of my cash on scouting Argentina and Germany for talent. I figure both nations, Germany in particular, have a fantastic set up of youth players, so hopefully my scouts will find me some bargains.

Of my two signings so far, Lucas Piazon, on a season long loan from Sao Paulo, is only rated 66 at the moment but is on fire, and sitting in the holding role is Flamini, which is just as well because my midfield injury crisis is getting worse!

My big injuries were all starters, and all 4-5 months long. At one point one of my CM fielders McGugan and my CB were both injured. One with a knee injury, one with a broken tailbone :D
Then my left back gets injured for a month, Derbyshire goes down with a knee injury for 6 weeks. Another, backup CM gets a knee injury, Derbyshire comes back, gets injured again for two weeks, shoulder this time.
It does seem like players get injured more into the season, cause I was having to play squad players and bring up youth players just to fill positions.

So I just finished my first ever CM mode season since I got the game and I had an absolute blast and got a LOT to say on many different stuff. Big post!

I'm playing as Atletico Madrid where board expectations were to qualify for CL and Make it to Semi-finals of Copa Del Rey.

Started horribly where I think out of the first 19 games, I had something like 5 wins only! And like 10 draws! Then I realized 'World Class' was simply too high a level for me as I was completely getting outplayed, outpossessed, out-turned and dribbled and shot by teams who I really should've been dominating including Elche from 2nd division who eliminated me in the very first round of Copa Del Rey. Like many said in other threads, 'World Class' is just too high to start with when you just get the game because you're still getting used to new 'defending system' and the game and many play on Professional but I didn't wanna make that move down because I had found it a lot easier and thought this IS my level, I just need to find my feet and get used to this game and improve defending.

I put Pass Error of CPU up to 65 from its default 50 and Shot Error to 60 while remaining on World Class and now this seemed PERFECT! I was seriously getting challenged and owned and played off the field by some teams but not all teams and I didn't see Elche pass and turn like Barca against me and make more passing mistakes and not score from their 1 shot. In time I will probably bring it back to its default 50 values but for now those 2 slider tweaks have made the game the ideal 'difficulty' setting for my current level of skill.

Anyway, 2nd half of the season was almost exact opposite of the 1st. My players including the recently acquired Hulk (For $45M!) had now gelled by January and we were firing on all cylinders! I found, I was getting the results but I had to REALLY work hard for it as you'd expect and also have to be very TACTICALLY smart! Prior to each match, which I treat very seriously, I'd change my line up and subs not only based on their energy/form and morale but most importantly on the oppositions' players. If they had two super slow CB's who were good in the air, I'd actually leave out one of the best poachers in the world in Falcao to play the pacier, more tricky but not as clinical Adrian as my ST (I play 4-3-3 with 2 WF's in Hulk and Reyes usually)

And when leading, I found it ABSOLUTELY imperative to switch to 'Defensive' and sometimes even 'Ultra Defensive' or 'Possession' settings etc.

I think much of the points I got in 2nd half were due to brilliant 'management'.

Where as fans were doubting me in the first half of the season and some calling for my head, by the end of the season, everyone could see we're buliding something very special here.

Lost only twice in all of 2nd half of the season (One a 90 min winner by Ronaldo against me in the big derby when I wasn't gonna settle for a point and wanted a win instead and ended up paying for it) and one time to Valencia who took 6 points off me and so beat me to 4th place!
Other 17 matches were like 14 wins and 3 draws!

Ultimately then, I didn't get the required CL spot but managed to climb my way up from 15th to 5th where I just edged out Sevilla on the last day of the season and managed to grab a Euro League spot at least! And was also eliminated in very first round of Copa Del Rey to 2nd division side Elche but nonetheless, I guess the board having seen the great last 5 months and the improvements we'd made saw that there's potential in this team and kept me which I was delighted because I had no intention of leaving, given the choice.

It was really nice to get job offers from a variety of different leagues as well as when you DO wanna leave, it gives you nice choices and not 1 or 2 crap options. I had offers from Rubin Kazan in Russia, Sporting CP in Portugal, Palermo and one Bundesliga team and AZ from Holland whose targets for new season were a Europa Cup spot. Nice offers from different leagues and countries and from different level of teams.

In regards to top teams having a day off against you, yeah I experienced that once. I somehow managed to keep a clean sheet against Barca for a 0-0 draw at Camp Nou and then at home in Vincente Calderon, I beat them 2 goals courtesy of two goals from my 'Engine' Mathieu Flamini who made great runs into the box! That day, I didn't really feel much pressure from Barca and while it wasn't an easy victory, it was hardly my most challenging match. I expected much more from them but was quite comfortable overall and the better team from the first whistle.

Barca did finish in 3rd spot actually after all however and some 25 points behind Real Madrid who went the whole season unbeaten!! So this was not the regular Barca for some reason and they had a really poor year! Maybe that's why I didn't feel much challenged by them either.

At the end of the season, I had conceded only 25 goals from 38 games! Probably 18 of them from the first half of the season! Finished 2nd in terms of best defense in the league behind Real who had conceded only 22. Really proud of that and shows I've more or less got the grips of defending now.

Can't wait for start of next season now! With a Europa Cup campaign to go with Copa Del Rey which I will hopefully go much further in this year, coupled with more injuries, I will really need to use the depth of my squad and be challenged on whole new levels hopefully.

Finished 2nd season at Real Madrid, lost out on the league (again), this time by 3 points. It was all set to go to the last day as I was scheduled to play Barcelona. Beat them 1-0, but as I lost 2 silly games previously (due to rotating the squad for CL games) it was little more than a consolation.

I did manage to win the Champions League, beating Chelsea 2-0 in the final. I opted to unnerve John Terry (just because I don't like him!), but putting Ronaldo up against him was more than enough...!
Highlight of that campaign was beating Inter 9-0 over 2 legs in the semi final. Got off to a blistering start in the home leg (6-0), with Ronnie scoring a first half hat-trick. Seeing as Inter were using a strange 2-1-5-2 formation with 2 slow defenders & Maicon it wasn't much of a suprise. They'd sold Sneijder to City & replaced him with Torres, but forgot to bring in anyone to supply him!

Transfers:
Honda is immense with long shots! Using him on the left wing (sometimes as a DM/playmaker when using my 2nd formation), and whenever he has space inside the opposition half I try a shot, with most being very close, and some wicked good screamers.
Ozil didn't like being a sub & demanded to be sold, and also let a lot of the 'older' players who weren't first teamers go so I could replace them with youngsters, so the likes of Kaka, Carvalho & Pepe went, and Man Utd offered good money for Benzema.
With the added funds I wanted to bring in 2 different strikers & an extra winger to help Di Maria, so purchased Llorente (£17m), Neymar (£61m!), & Muniain (£18m). Balotelli was also for sale at £20m, so bought him as well. Figured I could do with a nice selection with the added games coming up, and with Higuain picking up a 7 month injury it was a good gamble. He ended up being my top striker, as Neymar also picked up a 4 month injury.

Now on to season 3.
I'm going to have one more season at Real before starting my United campaign (nearly edited all the English leagues!). My priority is to snatch the league from Barca, but the board are expecting me to win everything this time. They've given me £153m for transfers, so going to go for it!
I've put Raul Albiol up for sale, and going to promote the youngsters Varane & Pedro Mendes, who impressed after returning from their short loans and playing a few games.
I drafted in one of the youth team defenders, who also impressed in a couple of games. I've put him up for a short loan to start with, as he's only 16, and will probably be 5/6th choice otherwise. Nice to see that the scouting can work for the big sides as well.

The marquee signing was Gotze, at a bargain £47m. I wanted someone to line up alongside Alonso, who had a bit of everything. He can also interchange with Honda, so hopefully it'll work out with my more attacking team this season..
I've also signed Valencia (£16m) as I wanted to add a bit of strength on the right side, and Danilo, who is a big young CM/RB from Brazil, hopefully he'll be the cover needed for Ramos & Alonso.

I'll check the 'European giants' tonight, and let you know how their much their line ups have changed in 3 years :)

For those that are interested, my lineup is:

-----------------Casillas
S.Ramos--Thiago Silva--Sahko--Coentrao/Marcelo
-------------X.Alonso--Gotze
Di Maria/Valencia-------------Honda
-----------------Ronaldo
-------------Balotelli/Neymar

Subs: Adan, Danilo, P.Mendes, Sandro, Muniain, Llorente, Higuain

I almost always adjust my formation depending on my opponent's formation. I look at how many strikers they're using, whether I'm out-numbered in central midfield, that sort of thing. Then try to ensure I'm covering their strengths but also see where I can exploit advantages. It's good to be challenged enough to feel like you need to do this, makes it more involving and more satisfying if you feel that it worked.

They'd sold Sneijder to City & replaced him with Torres, but forgot to bring in anyone to supply him!
Torres has moved to Inter in my game too. They sold Milito to make way, who'll be linking up at Liverpool with Darren Bent after I sold him for £20m. They have quite a striker overload at Anfield now, especially when Suarez comes back from his knee ligament injury.

I spent almost all of the Bent money on January deadline day, splashing out on a new creative/flair CF and a new attacking LB. So far I've played one match without my main goalscorer and we drew a blank... but I would have been fine with a 0-0 away at Newcastle, that is until Ameobi popped up with a sickening injury time winner :(

My job prospects for the summer will not look good unless I can pick up the form in the second half of the season. Not to worry, only Man City up next...

Haha thanks, it's a preset from my iphone imovie app. Takes just a few seconds to link videos and cross fade/add little presentation presets etc. Quite fun!

I'm not sure what's happened with my game, I said Chelsea had an off day and they definitely did. Last time I played them on Pro level I got slaughtered 5-0! Torres and Drogba both scored a couple, I think from around the edge and just outside the box, they were lethal. Every chance they got to shoot from anywhere near the box they'd take.

This match however, they were limp, lifeless, never shot, kept passing the ball to me, and their defence just let me waltz through on several occasions. Really, really odd.

My team moral is quite high now so I think that has a large bearing on things. Last time I tried CM for a short while I did terribly and moral for every player was really low. Now it's pretty high on average (give or take a few disgruntled squad players) and my team almost 'feel' more confident. They make more frequent runs, the AI doesn't seem able to power through them like they could before.

Only time will tell, only a few matches ago I lost 3-0 to Man Utd and barely mustered a shot at goal, so maybe the game does factor in 'off days' sometimes. Certainly West Brom did when I battered them 6-0.

Just had an amazing game at Barcelona. I played a 4-5-1 defensive and counter attack. Took the lead early on through Tiote. Iniesta equalised straight away and they outplayed me the rest of the half. Managed to keep them away from clear chances until the 87th minute when Pedro went down and they got a penalty. Messi scores, game over? Not just yet! 90th minute, Cazorla recieves the ball a couple of yards outside the box, turns around and rocket the ball in the top corner! My most satisfying goal so far!

On another note, Rondon is apparently unsettled. The media reports about it all the time. I got a message from him last month saying the teammates are trying to help but he feel it's hard to settle down or something. I will probably look to sell him come january. Love these little touches!

Unsettled how? I've only seen something like that when they talked about Filipe (Atlético Madrid's LB) missing his home or something, but then he decided to stay there.

It was kinda irrelevant to be in my news feed, since I'm Leeds in the Premier League, but whatever.

Skrtl was unsettled for me aswell for the 1st half of the season, with even news rumours saying clubs were going to come in for him in jan. But just as the transfer window opened he said he wanted to stay and fight for his place. Nothing happend and he played quite a few matches after that...untll he got injured last week and will miss 3 months now. I had Cahill ready to come in, and was waiting for a good offer. I just can't sell Carra, even though I have been offered quite good sums for him (up to 6,5mil in the summer!). And with the injuries it looks like he will still get enough games next season.

Yes it was something about him missing home. Well maybe he´ll decide to stay. But I'm thinking about selling him anyway, he's obviously weak mentally :)

In my Career Mode Vermaelen was unsettled and he missed Belgium and
considered to leave in Winter with Anderlecht, Real Madrid and Chelsea
linked with a move. I tried to extend the contract with him several
times but he said he want to change something in his career.
Just short before the winter transfer periode he got injured for little
more than a month and just after this happened he decided to accept
my contract offer because of the support of the club in this situation.
Great stuff imo :)

Damn that's messed up!

The groups are fine in the CL in my CM mode right now though. I had a look at them myself. The Europa league ones are fine too.

p.s. I told you that Germany gets 3 CL places a week ago or so, my bad, I'd forgotten things have changed and it's Italy that gets 3 while Germany gets 4 CL ones. That's why Schalke is in there. Of course you made a good decision staying with Malaga nonetheless. ;)

I know. But it is supposed to be the representation of CL in real life. So the rules should be the same and if two German teams were in same group, that's messed up. Like I said, I haven't noticed that myself though so good for now. :)
