Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

Finished my first season with Real Madrid last week...

League:
Ended up finishing 2nd. Barca were 3pts ahead with 1 game to play, so wasn't optimistic, but decided to field a strong team as I was at home to Sevilla. As soon as the game kicked off, the commentators started talking about how I'd finished second. Turns out that Barca drew their game, so won the league by a point.
I was hoping that there would be a bit of drama with the in game updates, but wasn't to be I guess.

Cup:
Mainly played squad players in the early games, and scraped a couple of thrilling games. Semi final was against Atletico. Lost 3-2 away in the first leg, but won the 2nd leg 5-3 (8-5 on agg) as both sides went for it. Managed to beat Barca in the final, so stopped them winning everything!

Transfers:
In: Jean (DM from Sao Paulo) Sandro (DM from Spurs, on loan-to-buy), Honda (CSKA), Thiago Silva (AC Milan)
Out: Sahin (Barca), Khedira (Schalke), Arbeloa (Zaragoza), Altintop (PSG),

Youth Squad:
Signed a few youngsters, but none were quite ready to draft into the first team.

Sugar Daddies:
Sporting Gijon have been taken over, but haven't really signed any 'big names'

I've almost finished my second season, so will update later this week :)

Yeah I'm gonna have to make a loan signing or two to cover injuries, love that aspect.

Seems to me like Man Utd are kind of freaking out. At the start they bought Modric but since then they've sold Ferdinand, Vidic, Nani, Hernandez and Rooney and aren't replacing them. They're still high up the league, I suppose time will tell if they go on some massive splurge in the transfer window then. All those fees must total up to a huge sum in the bank.

One cool addition to this game I noticed ages ago but but didn't mention was that I played a friendly before the season away to Vancouver Whitecaps. Not only does EA have their stadium (BC Stadium) but I think they've even included their artificial pitch. It looks different to the regular pitches in the game and the ball behaves differently, it rolls faster and bounces more. I also love little graphical touches like electronic ad boards reflecting off the pitch. Some awesome touches in this game.

Man Utd signed Ricardo Fuller off Stoke which was a weird signing, also signed someone off me I got for free called Ardemagni who's only about 72 OVR, at least he's not completely over the hill like Fuller, though still odd.

Lol maybe they have it hardcoded into the game that Fergie has a breakdown and starts to go all Alan Partridge....

Didn't EA talk about transfers being realistic this year? Or was it for Fifa 11?

Oh, forgot David Silva to Atletico de Madrid, now that's realistic isn't it :)

I was about to complain that the fixtures had fucked up and I had to play 2 matches in 3 days, then I realised the 2 days were December 24th and December 26th, oops ;)

One genuine fixture complaint, although a little petty, just got to the FA Cup final, checked the fixtures to see who it's against and I have my final league match two weeks after the FA Cup final :(

I've reached January in my first season and Darren Bent has requested a transfer. At first I was considering just stalling until the window closes to make him stay until the summer, but now the board have told me that they want to sell. Might have to accept Liverpool's £20m offer and see if I can quickly line up a replacement - could probably buy three or four players with that sort of money.

Mind you, selling my top goalscorer perhaps isn't the ideal way to (hopefully) begin a resurgence from the lower reaches of the table...

I wonder if the board will accept a sale on your behalf in that scenario? Does anyone know?

What I'd love to see is NO transfers in the first season (well at least first 6 months of career mode) because if I want to come up against the current teams in either a league game or champions'/europa league, more than likely their squad is not "default".

For example, if I start a career as a mid range team and I'm due to play a Real Madrid in the champion's league, I'd be really looking forward to playing against Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema, Ozil etc. But the way these career modes start off, a few of those guys could already be gone by the time I play them and it loses its realism for me.

Obviously there won't be wholesale changes at every club, but I'd like to see default squads remain for the first 6 to 12 months of CM.

Not sure why they can't give you the option as to whether you'd like no transfer activity outside of your club in the opening year. Means you have to play a standalone league/tournament or friendlies to play against the default squads as you'd see on TV or watch at the ground. I would think there'd be more complaints about this issue?

Agree, or at least be able to set the level of transfer activity like in PES ML. If I were working at EA I'd be seriously looking at ripping off many things from PES Football life.

Actually how cool would it be to have cut scenes during matches, and in the management parts of the game, where you see your own manager with your gameface applied. I'd love that. You could either start as a manager or switch to manager when you retire as a player like you can now, and choose manager appearance options for the pitchside cut scenes. You could be a snazzy Mourinho/Villas-Boas type, or more the Tony Pulis style looking manager. Would be really fun, if only really for show.

Perhaps you could have manager accomplishments in the virtual pro list, say changing a formation when losing then winning the game etc or bringing on a sub who makes an assist or scores etc could unlock more manager traits and options, as if you were learning the trade and developing more tactical awareness as you went along.

Unfortunately they will eventually yes so you're best off accepting the best offer.

You are officially now Steve Bruce, congrats bud ;)

hey placebo,

any reason why when you play in certain stadiums the camera height or zoom doesnt change when you try and put it below 10 ?

thanks :)

No reason that I know of for sure but I'd speculate it's perhaps due to fps or architectural obstruction (ie you can see the roof beams or such).

It's determined by stadium, as it is in real life. So from time to time you will be in a stadium that won't keep your regular settings. I think they did it to add atmosphere to the matches, and not a tech issue as the same stadiums from 10/11 with the same settings now change.

Managed to turn my Champions Cup drama around and sneaked 2nd place in my group to go through. Not sure whether it's worth it though, I have been drawn against Barcelona in the round of 16 :/ In having all my attention on the Champions Cup situation, I slipped up in the Merseyside derby losing 2-0 to Everton, meaning i'm now 4 points behind both Manchester United and Chelsea who are tied for 1st. Good thing is though, I still have to play both teams in the league one more time, so those games will be crucial. Martin Skrtel has put in an official transfer request of which I am not going to argue with, and he will be sold in the January market. Heres my current progress:

League: 3rd
League Cup: Eliminated 4th round
FA Cup: 3rd round vs ???
Champions Cup: Round of 16 vs Barcelona

I have a run of about 5 straight league games before my FA Cup tie, so hopefully i'll win all 5 and the two teams above me will slip up.

okay thanks for feedback, its a tad annoying as you get used to playing in a certain camera and then you play in a different stadium (i.e san siro) and its a different height

Sold my starting CDM (Marcio Araujo) for 2.500.000 when he was worth like 1.400.000 but didn't got the time to sign the replacement I wanted, can't remember his name though, I'll have to do with:

------Clayton------
Landsbury--McEachran

I got Landsbury a couple of minutes ago, and McEachran's on loan with us since the season started, I'd like to get him when the season ends, but I don't know if Chelsea will accept, and hell, I'm actually expecting a bigger club to come and get me.

In my second season as Swansea City. Missed playoffs for promotion by 3 points! Did make it to the quarter-finals in the League Cup. After 10 games so far, in fourth place. Not bad.

Near the end of last season Blackburn in the epl got bought by foreign investors. This season's current line-up, you ask?--Silva, Mata, Downing, Kompany, Falcao, Thiago, Aguerro, etc., etc.

Currently fifth in my second season with Malaga after 7-8 games. The goal this year is to reach the Champions League.

I really like how your form can suddenly switch. Just had a great spell beating Real Madrid 2-0 away, smashing Bilbao 4-1 at home and winning 3-0 away to Young Boys in the Euro League. Everything clicked and I played some amazing football. Then all of a sudden, I play away against Villarreal and nothing is going for me. I can barely get the ball in to their box. End up losing 4-0! I was forced to play some players with low morale due to injuries and tiredness so that may have been a factor.

I am struggling with injuries at the moment. Nistelrooy has just recovered from an ankle injury after 3 weeks. I now have both my CB's out injured. Sakho two weeks with a concussion and Lucio three weeks with a sprained knee. Xavi Torres is also out for a couple of weeks.

Honda is amazing in this game. He scores and create lots of goals. His runs are exceptional.

This is what happened to me, glad I wasn't the only one seeing it. I hit a terrible run of form when my top scorer Carroll got injured for 3 months, his replacement Bent got injured for 5 months and Suarez was out for 1 month. I couldn't buy a win and my team were shocking.

That's why I got sacked :)

Carroll, Bent AND Suarez injured, now that's being lucky :S

Did you use Kuyt up there or what happened?

Nice to see the board's not too patient, the only time they told me they were considering my spot after a couple of lost matches I managed to win like 3 in a row (I think maybe more, including cup matches) so I was alright.

It's my third season with Leeds, I'm expecting a bigger club to come and get me for next season, hopefully La Liga.

They did review me twice before the season ended and said I was safe. Lasted till end of the season before the chop.

Yeah I tried Kuyt but Michael Owen (my first signing) was doing better, he's a clinical finisher!!

I'm now in La Liga with Zaragoza and it's going to be tough
