Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

Aha weight! Yeah I knew there was another factor involved besides strength but the rule generally applies that specialities are no more (or less) than a visual indicator of a combination of stats.

Weight also plays a part in awarding the 'Strength' speciality. Similarly you can be an 'Aerial Threat' just by virtue of being tall.

Do you know what else goes towards aerial threat? Rob Jones who's 6ft 7" is a CB at Wednesday and last year he had aerial threat but this year he doesn't so obviously his stats have been downgraded somewhere which took away the aerial thread speciality.

In terms of injuries has anyone else noticed the possibility that injuries are increasing in occurrence the later the season goes on and the more matches have been played by players? I still wasn't seeing a whole host of injuries using 99/55 but then later on in the season I was getting at least one injury per match and eventually I was getting one serious injury every two or three matches, Gary Madine who played every match (except when fitness was yellow or worse) started picking up knocks, first were three femur contusions that were just a couple of days each, then a sprained ankle and then finally with maybe 4-5 weeks of the season remaining he broke his ankle, this was my injury list at week 41:

That's not entirely true though from what I've seen Paul.

Although usually the case, I've also come across CB's who were no taller than 5' 11 and had strength 77 but had the 'strength' special shield! Have also come across guys who had neither high jumping or heading abilities yet they had the 'aerial threat' thing.

As for Guardado, I thought he already had the 'Acrobat' thing Ozkar and am not sure what you mean by the 'technique' one? You mean dribbler specialty?

No not for me. He is rated 77 with no "specials" what so ever. Yes I mean dribbler, or was it speedster? Can't remember, didn't go for him in the end. Bought Dzsudzsak (spelling?) instead.

Dzsudzsak didn't have the greatest debut for my Malaga, met Valencia in the semi finals of the spanish cup, it went to penalties and he missed. No final this season. I'm 5 points from à euro league spot with 16 games left to play. Must reach it or I might get sacked.

Decided to go with Forest. Have only let two 18 year olds go out loan for the season and sold one aging midfielder (I'm not familiar with my team yet obviously haha).
Beat Betis in a pre season match 2-1. First goal coming from Findley (Do not like when he plays for the US but decided to give him a shot in our first game and see how he played). Sat Blackstock, which I now realize is a mistake. Lost my second pre season game 2-0 to Hamburg, they were just too fast and strong, I couldn't keep posession at all against them to save my life. Had a couple really close chances, a shot smashed from about 30' out by my LM Reid hit the top right corner and bounced down and out :(
Won my last pre season game 4-1 I think it was, Derbyshire had two, was subbed for Findley and Blackstock and a young midfielder put in the last two.

First two games of the season have been crazy, barely won the first 4-3, I had the lead 3 times but kept giving up what I would call really soft goals. I'm not 100% on defending it seems, sometimes I make absolutely beautiful tackles then other times I just can't make contact. Scraped a win on our first game though. Immediately after I was told my starting holding mid was injured for a few months, hooray! And I had just sold another so I'm using a young CB has a holding mid at the moment for the derby against Derby (:P).

I think he might require Heading 75? Unless they changed the criteria.

I've suffered an horrendous run of consecutive defeats in my Villa career, slipping into the relegation zone. And that's even with quite a favourable fixture list, so god knows what will happen when I come up against the strongest opponents. My players have felt very sluggish and uninspired in the last few matches - perhaps I'm suffering from the effects of poor Form/Morale?

Back to the drawing board I think.

Sign Lucas Piazon can pick him up for £3-4 million from Sao Paulo thank me when he turns into absolute beast of striker has for me in my Malaga seasons.

Will look him up :)

How do you guys handle your youth players? When you promote them to the first team they are shit, and when you don't play them because they are shit they want to leave. What's the use of them?

90/70 for me. I think it's 90, might be 95. But it's the 70 that is really doing the damage though. Half my injuries are serious which is what really makes them "good". So far I've always had atleast 1 longterm injury with often another one overlapping aswell. And then a few 2/3 weeks thrown in aswell. I changed the AI to 98/70 (from 95/60) as they weren't getting enough injuries and they weren't serious enough either. I'll have to see how I get through this season as it might be a bit too much next season when I also have European footie to consider. Got knocked out of the league cup at the first attempt aswell so my fixture list has been pretty light...till the xmas period and then I got another 5 injuries to 1st team players whilst also have Kuyt out for 4 months (2 months left now) and Suarez recovering from a long term (3 months).

But it's good though, as now both Carroll and Suarez are back so first the attack was a bit light, and just as they are getting back up to speed the midfield has gone a bit light. So it has a really nice balance atm between fitness and injuries making me having to rotate a lot of players and even protect them during games by subbing them earlier then normal.

So I have seven games left in the season and I'm nine points out of a promotion playoff. Unfortunately I have only one game with a team above me in the table...it's not looking good.

Re: injuries. I've got my setting to 99/65 as per Placebo's advice. Things were going well: a good mix of long-term and short-term injuries; then I went through a spell of about 10 games without any injuries. None for the CPU during games also. On a lark, I went to settings during a game and dropped injuries to 98, played a half, went back and put it back up to 99. Injuries are back! It may have been coincidence, but I think I had to just remind the game about injuries. Now my LM is out with a torn groin (rest of the season) and my second ST has a bruised shoulder (7 days).

If you remember back a few pages ago, LTFC had mentioned that CPU clearances went straight to the foot of a MF or ST. At first I thought he was just huffing and puffing...but now I see this as a definite flaw in the game (minor and silly, not game-ending): what is happening is not that the clearances are perfect, but none of my team will contest an air-ball. This happens on goal kicks, clearances, and lobbed passes, and loose rebounds in the air. You can see this best if you turn cursor-switching completely off. When you are in the offensive zone with a striker go ahead and take a shot and let the defender clear the ball or just pass the ball beyond the touch line and let the GK take a goal kick. Keep control of the striker and you will see the ball fly directly to a CPU player's feet because no one on your team will contest the ball in the air. It used to irritate me in PES 2011 when my CBs would come to midfield to contest an air-ball, lose the battle, and then be totally out of position. But it's silly that no one on my team will contest the air-ball. Any ideas on this? Is it just my (and LTFC) imagination?

Depends they take a long time to develop (i would loan them out if dont want them) i look for players who are near 60 rating before i bring them to first team.

I usually scout south america i got this Brazilian attacking mid youth player he brilliant small and fast only rated 63 now but he tears teams apart only 17 and scored 17 goals and 11 assists this season.

I got few other youth players but i tend to use them in cup games i really enjoy this aspect but i think it can improve hell of alot. My main gripes with career is i would like a reserve team so players can develop outside of main squad also annoying that have to search for transfers would like to be able to have list of teams showing stats of players and option to sign similar to football manager games.

I've got a CM going with Tranmere and hugely enjoying it.

I think, after 10 games, I'm 8th. After struggling to score at the start of the season, I've cracked it and had a few 3-0 wins in the past few games. Also I've beaten Watford and Portsmouth in cups so really pleased there.

Tiryaki seems to have found his shooting boots and has started to bang in some goals, now has 6 goals to his name and riding high in the scoring charts. Showunmi started by scoring but has dropped off quite a lot although his strength is a major asset and is keeping him in the team.

Max Power has gone out on loan. I've brought in a left mid whose name I can't remember (Borja someone...) and Javier Malagueño has signed for £400k from Malaga and has formed a great partnership with Ian Goodison. Malagueño needs to sort his stamina out though. He's constantly knackered and has already asked for a rest twice.

My VP is doing great in a CAM position, really starting to get going over the last couple of games by making some fantastic runs off the ball. I think I've scored 4 goals in our last 4 games with the VP now.

Andy Robinson will be getting sold in January. Nice ratings but is shattered by 60 mins and keeps needing to be changed around. Labadie and Welsh are doing well alternating in midfield.

Come January I'll be selling Robinson and Akins. Looking to sign a player who's quite versatile and can play both wings and striker ideally. Although I'm extremely skint and can't even sign youth players so will have to scour loans.

How and where can I do press conferences? I've not seen any mention of a conference at all before a game.

As the calendar is progressing you will see a few days before an applicable match a red microphone in the days on the calendar, once you hit one of those days press X and it will load the "speak to the press" after a while, seems to be hit and miss, first I thought it was only for derby/rival matches but sometimes I get one for matches against teams with no rivalry bearing (ie Wednesday v Bristol City) so not sure what it decides it on, maybe random on manager prestige or how your team is doing in the league etc.

Just started my 3rd season, promoted to the Prem and I started with a transfer budget of £8.5m + £40k PW which isn't bad at all really, struggled to find the right quality so mostly filled my team with loanee's, Beckham now 38 is contemplating retirement, has little pace or stamina but I play him in a holding role now with low work rate demands and he plays well to spray the ball around + set pieces of course. Very few of my championship promotion team will get matches in the prem but I'll keep most of them as backup for each position.

The days seem to go so quickly when you click advance, I'm surprised you have time to spot a microphone!

@ Placebo,

Liverpool had 22mil. when I started my career. So 8,5mil sounds reasonable in comparison. Although they might have made it less with all the new players already in the squad.

Won the treble with Malaga in 3rd season it was tough towards end but i held on.

Highlights were 5-0 win over Madrid and 7-1 win over Barcelona and 4-0 win over Chelsea in Champions league final. I lost the semi final second leg 3-0 to Barcelona Messi tore me apart the 6 goals in first leg helped me get through.

I had job offers from Manchester City and Barcelona i needed a change so i took Barcelona job. :))

I seem to remember that I already had a couple of million in the bank when I ended the season, so maybe next time I'll make sure I spend all my money first before ending the season on scouting or something ;)

What difficulty are you playing on? Seem a little too easy maybe? :)

I'm currently at the end of my first season with Malaga. Six games to go and are battling with Espanyol, Atletico Madrid and Villarreal for the Euro League spots. I also have a slight chance to reach the Champions League. Nistelrooy is considering retirement at the end of the season but I hope he reconsiders, 14 goals and 7 assists so far. Dzsudzsak was a great signing, he has already scored some goals and one from a beautiful free kick in the top corner. I really hope I will get to play in europe next season.

Current starting XI:

Fabianski-Jesus Gamez, Sakho, Demichelis, Kolarov-Flamini, Toulalan-Cazorla, Baptista, Dzsudzsak-Nistelrooy

Playing on Professional with Placebo sliders well it wasnt easy at start i struggled first season but as i built up quality team its become alot more easy.

Not sure wether to go up to world class or not im afraid the AI will do its twisty turn rubbish and be impossible to play against.

Ah ok same as me then. I don't think I will go up to world class. Some teams already annoy the hell out of me when they all of a sudden get super powers and play like Barcelona. I think that will be even more common on world class.
What's your current starting XI?

Started a career mode with Manchester United and doing well thus far. Still finding defending pretty tough, especially against City in the Community Shield. Aguero and Tevez were really tough to deal with.

Signed Kagawa pre-season for 24 million and he's been my top player.

Community Shield: Manchester City (Aguero, Tevez, Dzeko) 3-3 Manchester United (Kagawa, Rooney, Welbeck) - Won on penalties
West Brom (Odemwingie (pen) 1-3 Manchester United (Kagawa x2, Nani)
Manchester United (Welbeck, Kagawa, Berbatov x2, Giggs) 5-1 Tottenham (Defoe)
Manchester United (Kagawa, Young, Welbeck) 3-2 Arsenal (Arteta, Chamakh)

Enjoying the game so far though. Hernandez and Rooney are both injured, Hernandez out for 3 months with a broken ankle and Rooney out for 7 days.

Looking through the free agent list, but apparently I can't move in for a player because the window is shut? I'm pretty sure that you can sign a free agent at any time?

My CM has gone a bit ... weirdly easy. I was seriously struggling to score at first but now I can pretty much walk how and where I want with the ball. I'm able to dribble with ease in the penalty area for example. Not sure what's happened but the CPU is just always giving me tons of space.

Have you played PES recently ? I noticed after playing PES and then coming back to FIFA that it felt easier than I remembered. I'm scoring loads more than before and the AI aren't hounding me as much as I expect. The only thing I can think it is is my brain is expecting PES.

I've played it off and on but I always found PES easier than FIFA.

My last few games (with latest match first):

Won 3-0
Won 4-0
Won 3-0
Won 1-0
Won 1-0
Won 3-0
Drew 1-1
Won 3-0

I'm absolutely dominating games. The CPU no longer seems to have any chance to shoot. Defending has become easy. The CPU just backs off a lot whilst my players always get into good space and make good runs. It's all gone weird.

Its was as im at Barcelona now

Cech

Azpilicueta, Sakho, Dragovic, Monreal

Torje, Henriksen, Toulalan, Cazorla / Miyaichi

Cunha (my youth player / Coutinho

Lucas Piazon / Robinho

Had few other players but that was main :))

LOL I tried going back to World Class for the start of my CM campaign. What a joke. Three games played, three defeats, one goal scored, ten conceded. World Class is insane, how people play it on Legendary is beyond me.

1. Almost every pass seems to be telepathically intercepted. You pass to a player in space, and during the time the ball takes to get there, an AI defender sprints and runs in front of you, even if you try and run your receiver of the pass to the ball before the AI gets there.

2. The AI scores almost every single shot they take.

3. The AI scythes through your players and they repeatedly bounce off the AI like they're the Hulk.

Back to Professional for good. Even if it gets too easy. Not putting up with that bullshit. The game feels so robotic on World Class it's untrue. Such a really poor representation of difficulty. Not once have I been out footballed in those games, all defeats were down to AI exploits and surges of physical ability.

One final thing I've noticed, but I played some friendly matches with Newcastle and they were great. Had default everything from team, formation, tactics etc. Players got up in support of my strikers, all was great.

Then I started my CM with Newcastle, and those three matches suddenly saw everyone just stand still all the time. I've altered all the possible settings in formation, player runs, tactics, nothing works. Either I activate a run with the trigger button or they don't do anything at all. I try and keep the ball, but eventually you have to go forwards and get swamped out because my forwards are isolated and surrounded by defenders.

What's the difference? The team seems more dynamic and intelligent off the ball until you play in Career Mode, then they all turn into statues and it's impossible to get a midfielder within 50 yards of the other team's goal, no matter how radical you alter those settings. But it doesn't have this problem in friendly matches. What's going on?
