Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

Love it! I'm going to have to consolidate my position in the league and try and get through the next few games with hopefully a few points to keep in touch of City (who also spanked Arsenal 5-0 a couple of games earlier!)

Wow, I just mean WOW.

FIFA 10, I have to quit CM because of the -£2billion bug when you change clubs.

FIFA10 World Cup, I had to quit a World Cup CM after a bug prevented my from progressing to the tournament despite winning my qualification group, AND then setting foot onto the field to find I only had 4 players in one particular match.

FIFA11, I quit CM because the game was doing bizarre things to my player ratings for young players.

And now, FIFA 12. I just spend the best part of a week and a half playing my CM with Newcastle, including on a day off from work, only to load it up tonight to find all of my squad outside my starting eleven have disappeared and been replaced with an entire squad of goalkeepers with no names and an overall rating of -19992. Oh, then I tried reloading it to see if it was a one off, and nope, it's there to stay. Now loading my CM freezes my xbox whenever I go into the team management option.

FUCK you EA, this is the last time I buy your game. It's not fit for purpose yet again. I've played hundreds of games in my time and FIFA is the only game to have ever had a bug in it which ruins my CM and prevents me from playing it. Every single edition of FIFA since FIFA09 has had a game ending bug which wasted all the time I'd put into it and made me have to scrap the mode all together.

Fucking amateur, ridiculous bullshit. I might well trade this in for PES tomorrow, say what you want about that game but at least I've NEVER had to quit a game mode because of a bug screwing your save games. What a waste of time, and for FOUR consecutive FIFA releases. An absolute joke.

Strange, there's usually some kind of tangible explanation somewhere, often related to resetting the squads outside of CM or editing formations, did you try loading one of the 3 autosaves? Do you keep manual saves as well? I personally never save myself over the autosaves I have two manual saves I rotate during a session and then save over both before I turn the 360 off.

Note: I use JDM slider settings, all manual, but on professional not legendary.

So I'm up to eighth place in the Championship playing as Swansea. For a few weeks my starting midfielder, Bodde, claims he is unsettled, looking for a change, promoting his own line of shoes, wants to play with a better side. It goes on and on with the agent: I offer, they counter, I offer, they refuse, the commentary in-game refers to the drama. In fact, when they refused a second, very generous offer, and I drop him from the side and the bench, the commentary recognizes his lack of playing time! It was wonderfully tense--though we did lose a game and draw a game because everyone's morale was down--and then, when the rumors of offers come in from PSG and Malaga, and I'm starting to dream of the money...I'm going to sell this mug! Boom, one day before the transfer window opens, he has a change of heart, begs to return to the side, and signs the contract I had forgotten was still pending! Blast!

But what really broke my heart was at the end of the first week of the transfer window, my best CB, Ashley Williams, sent me a note: "I know the timing isn't good, but I've got to go!" The board forced me to trade him. The only offer was from West Ham and they are above me in the table! I had to trade him, though. I had no choice. That sent me on a month long search for a top CB but the best deal I could find was for an 33 year old from the Greek league. It didn't seem right to spend that kind of money for that age player. I wasn't in a position to make a run for an automatic promotion anyway. The rest of the season was going to be a battle. So I settled on two under 20 60's rated CB's; if just one pans out I could have the beginnings of a solid defensive core.

It was a great few days of FIFA 12: some adventure, some weeping, a lovely set-piece header, and plenty of drama.

Well there are an odd number of auto saves stored on my xbox for some reason, loads in fact. Maybe one corrupted or something, but even the regular save has the dodgy squads. Really odd.

LOL calmed down now, might still persevere with a new CM and just make sure I back up my saves every so often or something. Stupid EA.

By the way Placebo, I tried using the camera settings you use, and I loved it. Somehow made the game feel much slower, I was able to ramp up acceleration etc back up to 46 which seems to fix the player 'non tackle' bug :) That's something at least! Defending is much, much easier in tele cam than in broadcast for some reason. I set it to max zoom out, lowest height. You can see animated fans down the front of the crowd on the near side, which is cool.

Thanks for the help though mate :)

Anytime :) For the record I don't of course disagree that it's shocking, disgraceful and shameful that this exact same big still exists for 4 Fifas in a row.

It's bizarre, but I've also noticed the file on my xbox for saved squads is missing too. I think this might be the problem. Any changes to my squad through transfers etc must have been saved in this file, and now that it's weirdly disappeared, seems to have screwed with the player rosters for that save game. Maybe it's my xbox being a bit odd, and has resulted in deleting the info that's now missing from my CM.

Might turn out to be the xbox's fault rather than EA's, but it is odd that I've never had bizarre missing files for any other game though.

Oh well, the only consolation is that I was probably going to be sacked anyways :P

Yeah that would absolutely do it, I'd suggest running the game from a flashdrive for now, by that I mean every single save whether it be personal settings, squad file, career mode etc etc should be copied to a flash drive and loaded/saved from there :)

Cheers mate I'll do that from now on! At least there's an answer to the problem, bizarre where the saved file disappeared to though!

Okay, so gonna start another CM in the week once I've given PES a bit of a go. Too many games! Tempted to try again with Newcastle and this time making a better go of it. The game feels so much better on tele cam, easier to keep possession and easier to defend. Can't use the new Tele Broadcast cam, it neither looks like a proper broadcast camera and the angle is a bit odd to me. Tele all the way no methinks.

Well Malagas form seem to be on a high at the moment. Just beat Sevilla in the cup by 6-1 over two legs. Sevilla who outplayed me and won 5-2 in the league not long ago. Just won against Atletico Madrid by 3-0, an important win since I battle with them for the Euro League spots. Loving this game atm! Santi Cazorla is à constant threat and young argentinian Bounanotte will be à big player for me in the coming seasons. In january now and are looking to bring in Guardado from Deportivo to add some pace and acrobatics on the right wing as well. Jouaquin is good but not fast and technical enough. Wanted Shaqiri but he was too expensive.

Placebo pal, I read something from you about how to make so that in career mode you could stop big name players moving in the first transfer window. I remember you did it by changing players away and then back to the same club in the edit mode hence them becoming "newly signed players" or something like that.

If you have time could you explain the process please because I can't get it to work.

Do I need to start a career mode, save it, exit the mode, edit the transfers and then reload my career mode? Sorry if I haven't come across clear.

Thanks

It has to be done before you start a CM, basically you do this:

From the main menu go into club transfers (can't remember the exact menu names to get there but you can figure it out).

Select Arsenal, Sagna and Song are two I've seen move often in the first window but others like Van Persie you wouldn't want to move in the first window either, so select Sagna, transfer him out, quickest was is just press right trigger to switch to whichever league is next, French or such, and put him in the first team, his name still shows so just move him straight back again, do the same with the rest of the Arsenal players you want to "protect".

Then do the next team and on and on until you've "protected" all the players you need to.

Finally you need to go into team management and fix the lineups for the teams you've "protected" as the players you transferred out and back will be at the bottom of the squad list so need returning to the starting 11 (if applicable) and selecting as set piece takers/captain (if applicable)

Bit time consuming but shouldn't take more than say 15 mins per league

So glad that we can turn off transfers at the start and turn them
on at the Winter transfer periode on PC :) Also European Cup in
first season with just one single number change.

I lost the League Cup to Blackburn. Fielded an under strength team for the whole competition and lost 1-0. Players felt sluggish and didn't look up to the challenge.

Blackburn kept the ball in the last 10 mins, I went "fifa 11" and couldn't touch the ball. Lesson learned, need to be more patient to win the ball back and field a stronger team.

My form in the league is shocking. I get 3 points from 4th place then go on a mad draw-lose streak. They don't have the mind set of a top 4 team....yet.

I hope for a top 6 finish at least, but i'll probably get sacked.

Seen some really unrealistic transfers so far. Torres to Leverkusen, Sahin and Contreao to Arsenal after only six months at Madrid. They have really messed up regarding realistic transfers this year.

I wouldn't say they've "messed up", more like made no effort whatsoever on the front of realistic transfers.

True :)

The sad thing is that even though you go through all that you just listed the transfers will still happen in january. I guess we can't get everything. Still really enjoying my CM, but since I started using the contain button defending has become a little too easy :S Just beat Real Madrid with ease, may have to bump it up to World Class. But I worry that the CPU will go all super human on me if I do.

About to finally play CM, but I'm not sure what team to play as. I was considering Derby County again, or Fulham. Any suggestions on a team to use? I wouldn't mind climbing the leagues either.

How about trying to bring Nantes back to glory days and at least promoted back to Ligue 1?

This might be old news, but players seem to develop special attributes in CM. If you look at Guardado (Deportivo) outside of CM he is rated 77 with no special attributes but in my CM in january of the first season he is rated 80 or 81 and has the acrobatic and technical attributes.

Those aren't "special attributes" or such, they're simply visual "specialities" which are based off their attributes, for example all players with strength over 90 have the strength speciality, so if you buy a defender on 88 strength and they develop to >90 it then shows the strength badge showing strength speciality, alternately as players age you will see them possibly lose their specialities as well. Speedster is speed/acceleration >90 I believe, acrobatics is something like agility+speed, the more exciting thing would be if players develop traits, which they probably don't unfortunately.

Ah I see.

I've noticed some kind of commentary bug in CM. Twice now they have talked about the "new signing", but I haven't made any new signings.

That's not entirely true though from what I've seen Paul.

Although usually the case, I've also come across CB's who were no taller than 5' 11 and had strength 77 but had the 'strength' special shield! Have also come across guys who had neither high jumping or heading abilities yet they had the 'aerial threat' thing.

As for Guardado, I thought he already had the 'Acrobat' thing Ozkar and am not sure what you mean by the 'technique' one? You mean dribbler specialty?

Weight also plays a part in awarding the 'Strength' speciality. Similarly you can be an 'Aerial Threat' just by virtue of being tall.

'Acrobat' is Agility + Reactions.
