Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

Just had an incredible match in my CM, Wednesday v Cardiff, they went 2-0 up with two handball penalties within the space of 5 minutes to take a 2-0 half time lead, I start chasing the game and manage to pull it back to 2-1 with a really nice headed goal from a cross, then as I pushed even more men forward I was punished on the break and they made it 3-1, I manage to quickly pull another goal back to make it 3-2 and then in injury time my central midfielder breaks into the box and hammers the ball home for 3-3, a point from the jaws of defeat! I'm now 3rd in the Championship and unbeaten after 11 matches :) Out of the league cup unfortunately in the 1st round to Wigan :(

Is it possible to move clubs and retain player-manager status? I use my Virtual Pro in CM and it looks like the only options are moving as a manager, which presumably means I'll lose my Pro ...

So Wednesday v Cardiff = 2 AI penalties for handball

Next match

Wednesday v Crystal palace = 3 penalties for me (1 handball 2 fouls)

Next match

Wednesday v Leicester = 2 penalties for me (2 fouls)

Who is it says the AI never fouls? ;)

Me. 7 penalties in 3 matches is ridiculous but try getting 7 fouls outside of the area by the CPU in 3 games, doesn't happen.

The spanish league fixtures seem pretty messed up. I play on oct 21 and two days later I play again, against Real Madrid :S

Having a good time so far with Malaga. I am currently in 10th position I think. The board wants me to qualify for EL and that will be a challenge.

If you are playing with a wealthy club and you are looking for a winger, buy Cazorla, he is amazing! Rested him once because he got tired and I played really bad. He makes the team tick.

Seriously Placebo how are you managing to defend? If I try using the jockey/tackle combination the slightest change of direction throws my player completely the wrong direction and players just waltz through my defence. Just lost 5-1 at home to Swansea, can't be bothered playing CM now until I can sort this out. It's ruining the game.

Either you contain and they just easily work their way into my penalty area, and then I'm shafted. If I contain the player has enough space for a long shot from the edge of the box, which on World Class seems to go in at least 75% of the time no matter who you play against, and if you don't contain but jockey, all the AI does is turn in the blink of an eye in whatever opposite direction to the way you move, and takes you out of the game completely. I'm finding it impossible, and it's ruined my game. And no, I don't want to change to Legacy defending, I want to master this.

I'm playing on Professional, that helps ;) I've tried World Class and I'm not ready for it yet as I get battered, they "super dribble" around my challenges and it's just frustrating, haven't tried world class with their acceleration reduce whilst mine's raised, that may help?

One thing I meant to put some time ago, I definitely have the feeling that form AND/OR morale make a significant impact on the game, most noticeable when starting a new season I find that my player's passing/shooting is very poor and I have to handhold them significantly by being careful about getting into very good positions/angles to make even simple passes or shots but later in the season when things are going well it's much easier to spray the ball around and in particular hit decent shots from outside the area (obviously this is easier with better players anyway of course so perhaps it's the kind of thing that is more noticeable with lower quality players).

I'm noticing big differences in the way some of my team play when I leave Gerrard or Lucas out. They are my main men, when they're out the team looks and feels disjointed.

It's great to see your team be effected by different things this year.

Love the scouting signed a few kids got 16 year old brazilian centre mid played him in few games now he just skips past players for fun so great to watch.

Doing great in second season with Malaga 3rd in league and in final of Spanish cup and beat Bayern 2-0 in first leg quarter final champions league.

Please see JDM's post (first page) in the Sliders forum for my settings.

I'm into my first season as Swansea. I dropped them down to the 2nd division so that I could have a promotion battle. It's unlikely I get promoted, however: 3 wins, 3 draws, 3 losses.

I did have a moment of brilliance as a manager (just one so far!). I saw that my third cup match was against Liverpool and I thought they might have to play their second side because of their schedule. So I played my second side in the game leading up to the cup match and my first side against Liverpool. I was right, it was all their bench players (still good players, mind you). They took a 1-0 lead into the 75 minute when I tied on a thunderous long through ball from my half to Sinclair on the wing who danced in for goal. I scored again at 86 and it was game over.

I've played in light rain and a downpour, but never under the lights so far. I hope that changes. Snow would be nice later, too.

I'm sure everyone knows that in the first transfer window there is a Free Agent GK named Smith rated 77. You might pick him up and sell him, although that is just one notch below my starter Vorm (78). Be warned, though, Smith is a bit of surly fellow who demands to play. I give him a game after Vorm plays 3.

I've got a decent scout out and signed three players to the youth academy so far, with other players still being scouted. I don't know how to read this aspect of the game. When do you pull the trigger and bring a player into the regular team--should I wait till the Youth Academy determines all of their ratings (right now plenty just have question marks)?

Aside from Smith, I've signed RB di Laura as a servicable backup, and three loanees (two average strikers/wingers and one average LB). My starting LB Taylor tore his ACL in the third game and is out 6 months, thus the loan for LB. No other signings until I understand my players a bit more and I figure out the pace of the Youth Academy growth. If someone could discuss that or point me to right place that would be great.

All other injuries are entirely appropriate and realistic. Love the game--sorry for the long post.

In short: advice on Youth Academy.

a little update here on player demand for transfer...

so, January of season one, my Gunners are 5th place only 3 points behind man u (top three is chelsea, man city, liverpool - so happy there).

I brink in blakely as "one for the future" and loan out a few players. then, mid way through the transfer window i get a message from Wilshire - coach, my time here is done i want a transfer and i want it this window.

next day Inter, Bayern, and City all have offers out. I stall to see if I can keep him. after two days of stalling, the board says i must sell. i pick the highest big to Bayern for £42MM.

now I have £70MM transfer kitty, plenty of salary loot. what i need is creativity... so i buy Ganso for £32.5MM. i also buy Coutinho from Inter.

on the one hand, gutted to see wilshire want out, but i like the drama. now new club basically. with a strict 4-4-2 (diamond and regular) to get used to new talent. mid field is deep! Arteta, Song, Ramsey, Ganso, Coutinho, Blakley, Ox, Frimp. for the futre.

however, i was looking at happiness and this wilshire saga appeared to come out of now where!

In the new Fifa there's two save methods, there's 3 autosaves which obviously save automatically at slightly different times and then you can have manual saves, which are never autosaved over.

But they don't do an autosave everytime you finish a match do they? Or is that the last autosave? I'll check later, but I got the impression that I would lose my last match if I didn't save myself before turning off.

I am thinking about starting a new CM with a foreign team.

Anyone having some ideas? I don't care what league it is in. I just want a challenge ;)

You may try the A-league selecting Gold Coast. I think they are the lowest rated team in that league. Can't do much than run and trying to break the opossition. A 70ish rated player with dribbling is the equivalent to Messi in that league. Frustating at times but highly satisfying when accomplising victories in World Class.

That's interesting because when I play in friendlies away from CM my team get into good attacking positions, everything feels easier. Switch to CM and my team currently feel static, like you say, I need to use run triggers etc to try and nurse them into better positions, and in my last match in particular my player passing was atrocious. I currently find it almost impossible to get players to venture beyond the centre circle without changing my attack/defence level to 'all out attack', which inevitably results in the AI playing a through ball and literally pulling my trousers down.

I have seen a player vanishing from my squad at the end of his contract to find him in the free agents list the 1st day of the market. :CONFUSE:

Do you have a player in the line up with the trait of "team player" - i can't remember the exact name.
I have seen that having that player on the pitch influences the positioning of the players - they tend to be more aligned with their tasks and their positioning improves despite their tactic rating and vision. Also helps if the captain of the team is a player with such trait.

I haven't checked to be honest but I'll take a look at my squad and try playing anyone who has that trait. Might make a difference, cheers! :))

This game is brilliant - the best I've played since '09 when I played for 10 months straight.

Started a career as Leeds and was promoted finishing in 2nd place. Was a little disappointed that after my promotion there was no news on the news feed about it. Very anti climactic.

Was having a hard time with Transfers in the 1st year mainly due to money. Was able to bring in some young kids with high growth potential and let my squad grow a bit over the course of a year. Got massive offers for Becchio and Snodgrass at the January window but turned them down as I needed the players. Very cool part of the game was Kisnorbo saying he was interested in leaving for a full 3 months of the season only to say he wanted to stay on the 1st day of the January window. Some team in Austria bid 1 mil over his price so I sold him straight away. It was great to hear commentators talking about him, but game in and game out for 3 months was too much for me.

I am still messing with sliders and the press conferences DO play a massive part in the game. ALWAYS do the press conference. Toward the end of the season I made sure to do them all and went on a massive winning run.

Now in the EPL and REALLY had to work at the Transfers part of the game. I sold some dead weight, tweaked my salary/budget ratio and on deadline day was able to secure 4 top transfers with 5k left in budget and no salary left.

In - Brown and Stokes from Celtic. Also got loan to buy deals for Luke Chambers and Marcelo from PSV.

Out of cup in first round - 3 draws 2 wins and 1 loss to start EPL campaign and the commentary is really spot on about my team. "This team is overachieving" etc.

have fun!

Funnily enough Leeds just gave me my toughest game so far, I went off in the press and said Leeds were rubbish and we'll beat them easily, up to about the first 60 minutes I was regretting those words! I've lowered acceleration to 48/47 which slows the play nicely but it was also heavily raining so the match was really sluggish at times, they took the lead on the 8th minute and from then on I really struggled to get any possession together, most of the time I just lumped it forward and hoped it stuck with Madine, I eventually got an equaliser out of nowhere and then managed two late goals on the break with quick wingers I'd brought on as subs, a 3-1 win from a match I was certain I was going to lose! To add more spice it was 1st v 2nd in the Championship and I was still unbeaten after 18 matches so wanting to keep that going :)

The teams I absolutely struggled against were Doncaster, lost 3 times (once in FA cup) as Oster ran all over the place, West Ham and Leicester. I'll try that slider option. Mid way through the season I had a lot of rainy games which is when I started dropping loads of points. I only play on professional too and can't imagine how many points I would drop bumping up to World Class. The difference at the EPL level is very noticeable even at the lower difficulty setting.

I have also tried the tactic of attacking the opposite team in the press conference with the same results. This has happened to me all the time without exception. I do get better results when attacking the manager of the opposition. Overall, charging against the opposition has given me undesirable result, unless the story line is followed, such as comments of other coaches or news about players being sent off etc. Following the story line may provide good surprises - it is matter of experimenting scenarios. This game is spot on about these details this year around. A total treat.
