Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

had the same problem. went back to classical defending, and from legend (which i used to play) to world class. still got smashed every game.

now i got it sorted, it's a bit odd but i keep pressing 'pressure' and 'fair tackle' constantly together and have player switch to 'ball in the air'. this way i chase the cpu while my team mates do all the rest. works fine for me on world class.

i play 4-4-2 with one dmf and a tactical combination of 'high pressure' and 'ball control' btw. the high pressure part for defensive options and the ball control settings for attacking. that's about my custom tactics.

Glad that's working out for you, sound like you're doing better than me! I'm now 8 games in and still no win. It's remarkably true to a team struggling actually, my performances have been okay but just too weak in defence. Too many late goals. Just lost 1-2 to Spurs, Adebayor and Van Der Vaart both scoring from outside the area, the winner with the last kick of the game.

Think I may get sacked soon! :P

Started a CM as Villa, Legendary/10mins. Played three league matches so far, one loss, one draw, one win... then an epic fail in the cup when my reserves were knocked out by Oxford

I sold some players but chose not to buy anybody, will see what I can do with the current squad until the January transfer window (if I'm still in a job then).

Just had my first training injury. Barry Bannan, who has been making things tick in midfield and usually finishes with the highest pass count, has broken his toe and is out for three months :TTTH:

Finally got my first win, took me until my tenth game of the season! Beat Everton 2-0 to jump out of the relegation zone with a whopping 7 points from 10 games.

Sounds familiar but I'm having real problems going forward. No matter what custom tactics I set out, midfielders almost never seem to join the attack. My front two have to try and do most of the work on their own but get isolated up front. How do people make their midfield get further forward? I seem to only score on the break rather than have sustained pressure on the other team.

Ive just finished my first season as juventus. won the league with only losing my first game of the season. bought nathan delfouneso as he was young for 9million, my friends laughed, he subsequesntly went on to score 39goals and went from a 73 to a 76 and has 96sprint speed. loads of my players improved dramatically, de ceglie went up 5overall to 81 and vidal went up 3 along with krasic. i also bought jesus navas and sakho, along with a young keeper named Marc-Andre ter Stegen. rated 76 at 19, the only better keeper was de gea, he has replaced buffon and is rated 82.

ter Stegen is the GK of Borrussia Mönchengladbach.
I'm playing with that team.
After 4 matches i still have maximum points.
Three 1-0 wins and one 3-2 win against Bayern, Stuttgart (3-2), Wolfsburg and Schalke04, not the easiest start, but always winning, somtimes with luck.

I bought Jelle Vossen from Genk and loaned some Spanish players from Atletico Madrid and Sevilla: Koto, a CB and an AMF Julio Alberto. Also loaned Frimpong from Arsenal.

I loaned all these players because currently i have quite a few long term injuries...

Loving my LFC manager mode. Starting to climb the league with 5 victories in a row.

I have conceeded about 4 penalties up to December against the CPU for handball. One in the 90th min against Man City when I was 1-0 up...Tevez skied it :)

I was finding it a bit too easy after getting a run of wins on Full Manual, World Class, so i've cranked the CPU sliders up a bit (shot power on 55, WTF it's like a bullet )

Last game I drew 2-2 with QPR great game, much more difficult - the sliders can have a BIG effect.

Does anyone know how qualifying for Europe works? Are you eligible by reaching a domestic cup final? or just by finishing in the top 6?
cheers!

No idea how people are managing to win consistently in this, after a 2-0 win and then coming back from 2-0 down to earn a great 2-2 draw away at Manchester City (where Rooney now plays and scored both goals) my Newcastle team then took a 4-1 and 4-0 battering at the hands of Man Utd and Chelsea. Then lost 2-0 away at Norwich.

Shawcross, my new CB signing for £11M, is now out for three months with a broken ankle. The other signing, Holtby from Schalke, is not living up to his price tag, and has now been dropped for making almost no impact. In fact, it's really odd but playing as other teams, I manage to have much more attacking pressure. There's something about the Newcastle players, or tactics, that make them really defensive. Unless triggering a player run, the midfield just rigidly keep position and never venture up to join the attack. Even when I alter the player stats.

I'm horrible at this game. Oddly though, I'm okay on the new broadcast tele camera. I can keep the majority of the ball and rarely concede. Switch it to traditional broadcast camera (which is my favourite, makes games look more realistic somehow) I then get hammered. Must be something to do with the almost isometric angle you play at.

However I love the new commentary though, it's really contextual. Tyler and Smith just had a conversation during the match about how Newcastle should be comfortable in mid tabe but are having a rubbish season, fans not having much to shout about etc. Really nice.

I'm certain to get sacked at some point, nearing the halfway stage of the season I'm 19th in the PL and out of the League Cup.

Started a new CM with Malaga. Tried them before when I just got the game bit gave up because I was too poor. Now its à different story, I have finally managed to get bettet at defending.

I have only played one friendly so far, a 2-0 win against Ajaccio.
I have been pretty active on the transfer market. I've bought Kolarov, Sakho, Flamini and Ben Arfa. No superstars but players that could go to Malaga in real life for some extra cash :)

Only managed a single match today, at home to Utd (next week's match). Did an "unnerve" them press conference and they were really poor. Especially comparing them to one of my final matches that I played with the regular league tournament. However their defence was just ridiculously strong and the match might have been the most boring ever...but in a good way. Very much a midfield battle, they didn't even manage a shot. I only managed two, 1 of which was on target. Pathetic!

I'm still second to chelsea, having gone on a run of wins (not conceding with a few last minute 1-0 winners). Got knocked out of the league cup to Reading. Decided to rest a lot of the team...backfired and went out 2-0.

Oh and Suarez broke his collarbone the previous match and is now out for 3 months, fortunately Andy should be back again next week. And there are Sktrl rumours in the press that he is unsettled. Hope not as it will mean both him and Carra (getting on) will be gone next summer leaving me with major defensive changes.

Started as Forest, 7 points in 11 games, plenty of last minute draws from the CPU. But I am really enjoying it. Build up play feels good, manual control feels better than ever.

Got Frimpong and Usami on loan, and signed a 77 GK for free.

I'll be sacked, for sure, let's see where I end up.

Well never mind me having got better at defending. As soon as I play a game in CM I'm shit! I don't know if the CPU teams get better in CM? I just had a harder time defending against Granada than I did against Barcelona. It took them 1 minute to score that usual CPU goal where they dribble in to the box and all you can do is watch. Sometime it really feels like there i nothing you can do. You can tackle and make them lose the ball but then it bounces straight back to them. CM is really frustrating atm.

My career game seems to have gone a bit crazy. About 5 players have just vanished from the side after the end of season 3. The ai manager is now playing midfielders in defence, attackers on the wings and filling in the gaps with youth players (blank silhouette faces).

as i'm a player i can't search for the missing players to see if they were sold or retired... but there hasn't been any mention in the news sections of them going nor any sign on the transfers to the right of the screen.

It's as if as soon as their contracts end, they just leave the club.

Oh and one other thing. Sunderland have been taken over and are now "the richest club in the world". They have signed aguero, Bale and all kinds of other stars. :(

I got injured but some other bloke was crying on the floor, unless it was me in a wig.

Oh yeah sprained ankle, three weeks.

Anyone else notice how unrealistic some of the transfers are?
Rooney to Man City, Best players being sold to rival teams etc.

Btw the mode is growing on me.

PES...SOOOON

Well my career game is now officially borked.

Due to players just vanishing from the team now any time someone is injured, suspended or my player is rested.. The team has to forfeit the game with a 3-0 loss. I'm currently out for 3 months injured so that means 3 months of forfeited games.

I have been lucky once or twice though and ran into other teams with the sane problem. Liverpool, Everton and fulham all failed to have enough players play the game and forfeited to me.

I'm in season 4 now, it seems that soon every game will become a forfeit home and away.

What a mess.
(edit)

Looks like I spoke too soon. 12 games later and either my team forfeit or the opposing team forfeits. I've checked the other teams out and only 5 teams in the entire league have enough player to play a match. Everyone else is having to forfeit their games to each other.

I'm probably being really stupid here but I'm 12 games into my first season and I've not seen anything to do with press conferences before games. In fact I recently read the in game manual and that's where I first found out about it and how it can affect players' performances etc.

Where do you find the option to do one?! I never have an email about it, or see it in the news section. Beginning to think it's just missing from my CM altogether....

It seems it's only for rival/derby matches? Wednesday have rivalries with lots of Yorkshire teams so I see it a lot.

In the Calendar view about 5 days before a match you see a red microphone and can press X there or in the main menu to speak to the press.

Yes, but do you have to press a 'blue X' button during calendar scrolling to 'activate' press conference or smth? Playing with Everton, there was no conference prior to Merseyside derby (and I didn't press X). Couple of matches later, before the match with Chelsea I did press X when calender reached conference days and voila - there it was.

Yes you have to press X at some point else it'll simply assume you're not interested in talking to the press, maybe you're doing a Fergie and think the BBC said bad things about your son ;)

Ahhh, okay, seems an odd way for the game to go about it, surely would be better to just stop the calendar on press conference day.

Thanks for this though, so far I've skipped these for every game! So do they actually have an affect or is it purely for show?

I just played two derbies in a row, Doncaster I basically said are a small minded team or such and I beat them 4-0, Barnsley I said the exact same thing and despite being bottom they raced into a 3-1 lead which I slowly managed to claw back into a 3-3 draw, so it's possible it has an impact, I just like saying stuff to the press to hear the commentators talk about it in the match :)

LOL maybe the fact that I haven't been turning up to press conferences is having a detrimental affect on my team ;)

Yeah the players are losing faith in you. If you don't want to fight for the team and defend them why should they?! ;)

I noticed it, I praised Bale before the Spurs game and he was missplacing passes and losing possesion a lot, far more than anybody else on their team. I called Utd a small minded team and all they did was defend and didn't threaten my goal.

Just at the Christmas break now. Adebayor is the leading goal scorerer on a massive 6 goals!

The games just become a complete broken mess now. Players are vanishing when their contracts end, teams are forfeiting each game. I should be struggling for wins because my team is crap and I've finished just out of the relegation zone each season so far... but with all the opposing teams forfeiting against me now my injury is over, I'm moving up the table with ease.

I don't know what to do, I don't think it can be fixed at this point. Even if they patch it... It most probably wouldn't fix my game as most teams are down to about 16 man squads and no one is buying except for the big teams (in my game that's Man United, Spurs, Man city, Stoke (bought by some billionaire in season 2) and Sunderland (richest club in the world after being purchased during season 3).

:(

That sounds crap, glad I never bother playing just as a player then! Seriously you should twitter Humber or go on the EA site with that, it sounds like a class A bug to me. It's a bug that's ruined the game mode.
