Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

That small group would be more influential than you think and most are the ones that swung from PES to Fifa.

If that minority goes back they will take alot more people ("sheep") with them. People play what there mates are playing. If PES get the hardcore back, it'll drag alot back across.

I think that's starting to happen already, looks to me like a lot of people are choosing PES over FIFA this year. And a lot of those people hated PES 2010.

This is a good thing though, it's going to force both companies to step their game up. Although (and this is just my opinion) I do think EA are trying to get a bit more of an arcade feel to their game despite their claims.

I now expect a load of abuse for suggesting such a thing

Also Rom do you know any more about the what exactly EA can update/patch this year. I'm sure i read somewhere that they have gotten around the Microsoft patch problem and they can update the game this year.

I'm just wondering if enough people complain, can they change whats wrong?

EDIT:: Also Kev i'm sure Asda are doing the £24.97 deal for 24 hours from Thursday night. It'll be in the papers tomorrow. No doubt Tesco and Morrisons will follow suit. If i can make it in that time i'll buy it for that, but if its as bad as it looks post patch i'm gonna bail on it. Problem i have, i just cant 'get' PES even this year when loads love it.

Hope so, I'll buy it for that. I've already got my pre-order for Asda so im guarenteed a copy on Friday.

If EA want to go back to the PS2 era, where they were frankly an objective of ridicule, then they can, frankly I'm starting to care less and less.

Only question is, what's the next thread I write going to be called:

"No. EA don't get manual"

"No. EA don't get football"

or:

"The GameChanger Con"

No abuse Dags, i think your right. Its just when they spend all summer talking about simulation etc and realism, then they shit all over everything they've said in one patch (before release day) you have to wonder who makes these decisions.

FIFA 11 Creative Director Gary Paterson introduces Pro Passing, a new feature for FIFA 11 that will end unrealistic one-touch 'ping-pong' passing forever and make for a football experience that's deeper than ever.

When it falls on deaf ears, i cant even encourage you to make these threads. I was right behind you on your last one and that was based off the gamerbase build (which now feels like dream i once had), EA have gone the other way.

"Gamesamer". Should be the title of the last thread above :-)

At the end of the day though, what percentage of the FIFA-playing public are hardcore fans like us? The vast majority of people I know actually DO want a fast-paced, sprint-fest where you can pull of tricks and run the whole pitch.

I know FIFA's not exactly like that now, it was back in FIFA 98 and they've made a lot of strides since then. But there's still that element that caters for Joe Public who wants the faster game, 1-touch assisted passing and so on.

Evo-Web is a massive minority and no matter how much Rom and co complain to EA, they're going to go with the sales figures. And FIFA sells by the bucketload.

Maybe, but i'll gonna stick my neck out and say Fifa 11 (if it stays in its dumbed down patch state.) will sell less than Fifa 10, and maybe more importantly the online users over the year will drop off quicker.

Word of mouth and lack of challenge will do for them in the end. If its similar to Fifa 10, its just a roster update. People (even the casuals) will get bored.

If that happens how is that good for anyone?

If we think back, we should have known the future was doomed when they introduced Two Button controls.

Yep.

The best thing that can happen is for EA to lose sales figures, especially if they're lower than FIFA 10. They'd be forced to look at what reasons it sold less, and boards like this can provide those reasons on why people refused to buy.

Hopefully (not likely) EA would then realise and fix it all up for FIFA 12 and give us the game that we want.

It won't happen though.

Uh oh. I was thinking to get this after I heard positive things about the 1.01 patch but now i'm hearing the opposite along with other issues. Definitely not getting it even if it is reduced at the supermarkets on Friday.

Yep.

The problem with this scenario though Dags, is that I dont think the sales figures will reduce. If anything, sales figures will probably reach an all-time high this year, especially with scores like 100% and 9.5 'Incredible' coming from the likes of IGN and co. This in turn will encourage EA to continue on the same path they are currently walking.

If it reaches an all time high, then it deserves to. Yes Fifa 11is flawed, every game is. But the sales figures will probably prove more people like it. You can't put a gun to someones head and say buy Fifa 11. They would of played both demos and come to the conclusion on which one they like more. Then you get people who like me who would buy both in one year :D

You also get people who loved one game and can't see why the other game can be better so won't even bother with the other demo.

Well thats there loss. I've played the PES demo more and more and there are things that they get right better than Fifa so yeah definitely when Fifa has been outplayed, will pick it up. Always happens.

P.S Poulsen and Lucas - they have to play tomorrow because for the love of god, please dont start on weekend :(

At the end of the day though, what percentage of the FIFA-playing public are hardcore fans like us?.

I wouldn't call realistic speeds, netting unrealistic passing, or players getting tired after sprinting the entire game, or Walcott being able to outrun Puyol, too hardcore.

I see what you're saying of course about the casuals but we're not asking for anything that would make the game impossible to play.

Why bother with something that doesn't want to be what I want it to be?

Doesn't want to be what it should be if it's calling itself a football game.

To be fair, the game hasn't been released yet.

It has in the U.S. Lots of cheesers filling up the servers :). Filters still don't work it seems. Or rather, they work, but nobody changes them so if YOU do, you'll be playing alone.

About the ability to turn off PP online, I think it's just that PP in general is trash. I don't really expect the casuals to go into settings and specifically turn that off, if you really can. Passing in general just isn't as difficult as the early build and that was evident from the demo.

Cheesers can still reign supreme.

Fatigue doesn't matter. Sure the bar will drop down, but they don't run any slower.

Shielding, for me at least, doesn't work. Try to shield with Cris and Messi just ran around and took the ball. Defenders are on skates so trying to receive the ball with your back to the man and turning on him hardly ever works.

Pressure is still king. Cannot tell you how annoying this is.

Add to that, attacker speed is so gimped that defenders will always catch up. Had a guy out in space all by himself and the defender just sped up and latched on to me. Which brings me to another gripe...

I don't need Gourcuff (gimped already because he's not super fast) to slow down and put his arm behind him to fend off a tackle. Just fucking RUN!

Already had instances where my opponent makes a rare errant pass, I chest it down, and his player runs through me to steal it.

Oh and fouls? They do not call ANYTHING online. Playing Online Team Play my opponent just scythed down Lloris after he cleared the ball and I didn't even get the advantage sign. Nothing.

Pro Passing, not sure if I mentioned it yet, is nonexistent online. Played against a guy with Mönchengladbach (I had Lyon) and I just had to watch as he was making 180 pass after 180 pass all while I'm trying to watch the passing lanes. What was almost the last straw for me was a play where he passes to one striker and sends the passer on a run. I 100% KNOW what he's going to do with the next pass, it's a through pass. So I stand in the passing lane because the fit is so tight that even he it fits it past the defender coming after him, he's passing it right to me. What happens? My defender, the one I'm controlling, does the "Oh, I'm sticking my foot out to try and intercept this but it's going to roll under me and between my legs" animation, and he's onto goal. And he scores.

I had 62% percent possession in another match with Lyon against Barça (of course it was my opponent with Barça) and it ends 0-0 at the half. 2nd half starts, pass to Villa at the top of the box, turn, finesse shot. Goal. Then he did it again.

Again, this is all online but whatever they said Pro Passing, fatigue, and physicality were supposed to fix, wasn't fixed at all. And if the CPU AI is as poor as you guys say it is, I don't want to play MM and I can't be bothered changing tactics.

The one thing that REALLY pisses me off is the fact that every team (even more so than last year) plays precisely the same. In FIFA 10 I was able to, with my buddy, replicate the short quick Arsenal passing at times. In this game, I have to play the same way with them as I do with Madrid, United (who aren't even worth picking because pressure negates every player's strength; Valencia isn't outmuscling or outrunning any defender), Lyon, etc.

In short, nothing's been fixed. And right now. Fuck it, not just right now. I'll go on record and say that this game is just as poor as FIFA 10. You cannot POSSIBLY play this game in a realistic manner online (since so many people seem to love Clubs) and have success. It isn't possible. You must cheese.

And WHY do they have filters in the game? Changing anything results in you finding no games still. How could they not fix this. If I play 11v11, I can't change the goalie controls to "AI Only" so more often than not I will HAVE to have some dickhead controlling the keeper. And another asshole holding the B button. And no option to boot people.

I know nothing about PES so I can't give a recommendation one way or the other, but FIFA is a must NOT buy as far as I'm concerned and I think I'll be putting this one up for sale on Amazon very soon.

They toned down and/or removed EVERYTHING that they've mentioned having fixed except for the way some players run. I will NOT abuse pressure to level the playing field. I will NOT play with assisted settings.

Sorry, one more thing in this epic rant, manual is no longer manual. I may have also said that but I'm not going back to check. I played a manual ranked match and got ping ponged as well with Barça.

Rutter needs to go.

Bought yesterday both Fifa and PES at my usual shop.

FIFA is getting raped quickly by the developers themselves, that's the only thing I can think of.

Almost everything in the game has been improved... except the game itself. Some insights:

- Tackling: Noob tackling totally destroys this game.

- Movement: here is a video of what I think the movement of Fifa is based on:
YouTube - Disney On Ice Let's Celebrate

- P-my-ass+: You can see some P+ in that previous video too. Goofy and Peter Pan have slightly different speeds when they run. Well, it may sound so far fetched, but there's not much personality there. Some players will be slightly faster (but as defenders can catch you up, what does it matter?) but all of them can control and move with the ball with total impunity until they're tackled again and again (right stick to put the ball ahead works exactly the same for all players....wtf).

First touch almost non existant (it's there 1 out of every 30 controls, it seems), all players can pass practically the same (ProPassing is noticeable and slightly reduces ping-pong, but makes practically no difference overall).

You don't feel different "types of player" in the game, Amauri may be a great header specialist, but moves with the ball almost the same as Xavi or Messi. He's not that fast but he's stronger.... mmm, Fifa 10.5?

- Manual controls
have gone shit in my oppinion. You're seriously handicapped with manual this year, since it's not that manual anyway and deffensive AI has been empowered by totally ignoring the laws of physics, so it's brutally impossible to play realistic passes, nice through balls or intrincate passing in the midfield.

- Strength vs skill:
they only made Iniesta and Xavi faster and quicker, pretending that would make them better, and they can evade from defenders by doing absurdly unrealistic turns. But they can't simply wrong foot anyone. I still can achieve the same (and a plus), with any strong DMF (usually the man of the match...). By the way, Iniesta tackles as well as Pique or Puyol.

- CPU AI: pathetic. Worse in FIFA next gen by far. They do absurd tricks now and there, they play pixel perfect everything and all that we already know. But this year they don't seem to play a team sport. A CPU player will take the ball and run with it 30 meters, trying to dribble everything in his way, automatically "retacling" when you tackle him, and if they are not dispossessed (just hold a button and sprint towards them), they may sometimes pass it to another player. I haven't seen any smart teamplay in more than 30 matches.

- Midfield is a tackle fest now and then, an the amount of people falling to the ground reminds me of this:
http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/2698613/Hulton-Archive

- A little non important detail: EA has a curious tendency of doing things. Last year a lot of people said there were no diping shots in the game, so this year practically all the shots in the arena ARE diping shots. Try to shoot in the arena for a while, it gets absolutely ridiculous the amount of shots with extraordinary dip. I'm annoyed at the tendency they have to put the new things extremely visible so they can claim them in the box. Then you go to the actual game and see that shooting is quite good, in fact, maybe the best thing of the game!

I could go on and on and on... right now this game feels flat and boring, rewards build up less than before (it rewards running towards any opposition holding tackle, that's what it rewards mainly), is a lesser simulation of real matches and tactics and introduces new flaws to an already flawed game, while only slightly fixing some.

You may love it for what it does and because technically is vastly superior to it's opponent, but it's the most arcade game in this generation of consoles and doesn't fix any of the flaws most of the people had. They will need to change a lot of things for me to buy another version.

I may play a bit more to try to save something out of the full package, but VERY disappointed by now. I was extremely disgusted with the demo and the final product is way off what I want in a footy game. Lucky me, I can give the game to a friend that wanted to buy it.

I spent months playing full manual CM in Fifa 10. I WON'T spend more than 2 weeks playing this, maybe less. It's a mess of a game, it's a caricature of Fifa 10 (which was a caricature of Fifa 09, etc...).

Another rant bites the dust.

Wow... these two posts are 100% on the money with what I feel about the game.

I normally play against my brother offline and it's still a pressurefest where players like Messi are shoved off the ball in 1 nanosecond. Midfield play is horrific with constant barging of one player into another being possible for the entire game. Messi tackles as well as Puyol is another gripe mentioned above. PP and P+ are fucking shams. Strength, Speed and Shot Power are the only attributes that make a difference.

This game can only be saved with sliders. It's the only way to up passing error, decrease pressure spammers, up stamina decay and fix the cheese that is still prevalent. FFS, give us a simulation mode like NBA 2k11 that we can toggle if sliders aren't an option.

I tried the PES11 demo on PC and wasn't too happy with it. I'll give it another go because I only played once or twice and haven't used that control set since PES6.

Jesus. The comments over the last few days have been awful. I have the game waiting for me this evening, but even I'm getting pissed off with it and I haven't played it yet! That's what negative comments can do.

It surely cannot be that bad, surely? It's better than FIFA 10, I'll bet. If so, and the flaws of Manager Mode have been ironed out, for £30 or so, I'm content. With all these comments rolling in, you'd think the game was utter gash. I'm willing to wager that it's not.

It really isn't a bad game but it just isn't for me. Oh, and there are lots of bugs and glitches being discovered already (some of which were already there in FIFA 10) which doesn't help at all.

Can't wait for the game now! Thanks lads! :D

Seriously, this has been on the cards since the release of 10 imo, I get the impression the gamechangers program is nothing more then a very clever marketing tool, sadly for the guys who have invested so much time. The impressions and forummers create a buzz, the reviewers get to see EA open up to the public and that's enough to get them the benefit of the doubt.

It would be interesting if someone, like Rom, asks the guys like Gary how they feel about the game and the way their development work is being thrown out the window. I get the impression those guys want to create the best football game, but that the powers that be are forcing those developments to be toned down to keep the public happy.

As for games, I'll be getting PES aswell this year and I expect to only be playing that in a couple of months whilst FIFA may be an online with mates only game (if that).

@ placebo,

In My Fifa / online or something like that was where I could turn it off for the previous games.

Yeah PES is always an option but I don't think F11 will be that bad. Certainly not as bad as folk are making out. At least I hope not.

If PES get's all patched and modded up, it could be an interesting few months.

Have you allowed the patch to take effect, mate? If so, have you noticed the game speed increase from the demo?

Right now I just care about turning this POS ticker off before it spoils the scores of all matches I haven't watched yet :(

Is there a way to delete the patch on the Xbox 360?

I prefer the more chippy play pre-patch. I only play offline anyways

Delete your system cache.

Yeah I think I'll still enjoy FIFA, but if the team AI is still as shit (attack, attack, attack) then I'll quickly get bored. Hopefully CT's can create some form of decent team differences to give it some life.
