Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

I'm certain I started my career mode in slow speed, I'm sure I saw an option to change it prior to starting a match as well?

Bought yesterday both Fifa and PES at my usual shop.

FIFA is getting raped quickly by the developers themselves, that's the only thing I can think of.

Almost everything in the game has been improved... except the game itself. Some insights:

- Tackling: Noob tackling totally destroys this game.

- Movement: here is a video of what I think the movement of Fifa is based on:
YouTube - Disney On Ice Let's Celebrate

- P-my-ass+: You can see some P+ in that previous video too. Goofy and Peter Pan have slightly different speeds when they run. Well, it may sound so far fetched, but there's not much personality there. Some players will be slightly faster (but as defenders can catch you up, what does it matter?) but all of them can control and move with the ball with total impunity until they're tackled again and again (right stick to put the ball ahead works exactly the same for all players....wtf).

First touch almost non existant (it's there 1 out of every 30 controls, it seems), all players can pass practically the same (ProPassing is noticeable and slightly reduces ping-pong, but makes practically no difference overall).

You don't feel different "types of player" in the game, Amauri may be a great header specialist, but moves with the ball almost the same as Xavi or Messi. He's not that fast but he's stronger.... mmm, Fifa 10.5?

- Manual controls
have gone shit in my oppinion. You're seriously handicapped with manual this year, since it's not that manual anyway and deffensive AI has been empowered by totally ignoring the laws of physics, so it's brutally impossible to play realistic passes, nice through balls or intrincate passing in the midfield.

- Strength vs skill:
they only made Iniesta and Xavi faster and quicker, pretending that would make them better, and they can evade from defenders by doing absurdly unrealistic turns. But they can't simply wrong foot anyone. I still can achieve the same (and a plus), with any strong DMF (usually the man of the match...). By the way, Iniesta tackles as well as Pique or Puyol.

- CPU AI: pathetic. Worse in FIFA next gen by far. They do absurd tricks now and there, they play pixel perfect everything and all that we already know. But this year they don't seem to play a team sport. A CPU player will take the ball and run with it 30 meters, trying to dribble everything in his way, automatically "retacling" when you tackle him, and if they are not dispossessed (just hold a button and sprint towards them), they may sometimes pass it to another player. I haven't seen any smart teamplay in more than 30 matches.

- Midfield is a tackle fest now and then, an the amount of people falling to the ground reminds me of this:

- A little non important detail: EA has a curious tendency of doing things. Last year a lot of people said there were no diping shots in the game, so this year practically all the shots in the arena ARE diping shots. Try to shoot in the arena for a while, it gets absolutely ridiculous the amount of shots with extraordinary dip. I'm annoyed at the tendency they have to put the new things extremely visible so they can claim them in the box. Then you go to the actual game and see that shooting is quite good, in fact, maybe the best thing of the game!

I could go on and on and on... right now this game feels flat and boring, rewards build up less than before (it rewards running towards any opposition holding tackle, that's what it rewards mainly), is a lesser simulation of real matches and tactics and introduces new flaws to an already flawed game, while only slightly fixing some.

You may love it for what it does and because technically is vastly superior to it's opponent, but it's the most arcade game in this generation of consoles and doesn't fix any of the flaws most of the people had. They will need to change a lot of things for me to buy another version.

I may play a bit more to try to save something out of the full package, but VERY disappointed by now. I was extremely disgusted with the demo and the final product is way off what I want in a footy game. Lucky me, I can give the game to a friend that wanted to buy it.

I spent months playing full manual CM in Fifa 10. I WON'T spend more than 2 weeks playing this, maybe less. It's a mess of a game, it's a caricature of Fifa 10 (which was a caricature of Fifa 09, etc...).

Another rant bites the dust.

You can definitely change to slow speed in the demo prior to a game. I hope this is the same for Career Mode. Why they'd increase the speed via the patch is mental, anyway. It's obviously to do with the passing speed that folk complained about.

EA brainwave : To increase the passing speed, we'll increase the game speed. They'll never notice...

The passing speed was awful pre-patch though, it was just far too lethargic. Haven't played post-patch, but then I can't see myself going back to FIFA anyway to be honest.

Well, if it's utter rubbish for me, which I don't think it will be, as I enjoyed Fifa 10 but for the short comings of Manager Mode, I'll just switch back to Bad Company 2, which I can't seem to get off at the moment (at least 7 days play time).

I think I'll be enjoying F11, though. Just a hunch.

Yeah, that's the thing. If you still enjoy FIFA 10, then you won't have a problem with 11 and you'll probably enjoy it more as it's had a few improvements.

Time to take action:

Just need a decent clubs mode, please......

Indeed, Dags, that's what I'm expecting, TBH. I don't go online with Fifa, so that's not an issue for me. Basically, single player Career Mode and whatever else takes my fancy offline.

It's a shame there's two football games battling out with each other every year. I mean, it's great for competition for each other so they can try to improve, but for the buyer, it can be a difficult choice. Buying both seems a bit odd, to me. Saying that, I suppose each game has it's advantages and disadvantages over the other.

Well, Placebo, I'm sure the game is better than what I feel right now. But it's a let down for me and I can't see this game "growing on me" as other have in the past. Basically because in the overall picture all I see is another step towards a more arcade and casual game.

The game may be enjoyed for those that think Fifa10 was great. If you are looking for something else, you'll probably be annoyed and start thinking in buying 2k11, which makes all the footy games ashame of themselves demonstrating how can you mix fun and simulation for either casual or hardcore gamers.

All these negative Nellies, need the game to arrive so I can form my own opinions.......
Same here. I'm hoping it'll arrive Friday rather than Monday, never mind earlier!

I'm taking all these reviews with a pinch of salt. I know I enjoyed the demo, that's the only concrete thing I have to go on at this stage.

If a patch changes the gameplay to make it worse than the demo, i simply wont download it as i play offline mostly anyway.

Top tip though: Dont play the game when you are knackered. Always feels 2x faster than normal.

Just a note on handballs. There has been a lot of complaints from people about amount of penalties given and ridiculous decisions. EA did state that they had no time to programme into the code handball avoidance ai. But it's something the community wanted in for some time so they included it. The option is there to turn it off remember.

You hardly ever get fouls for handball but regularly get penalties for them, I'd recommend turning them on but not for pens.

Well I won't get my hands on it til Friday morning. At least Blockbusters are opening early. We had 2 independent game stores locally where I used to be able to get games early but sadly they have closed down. So now I have to wait like a good boy.

Off to play it at a friends house. I know I'll enjoy the games between us as we always do but I'll check out online as well. If it's true you can turn Pro Passing off for online ranked matches then I'm not getting this.

Guys, don't trust IGN (US Edition) ratings and reviews for Football games ever, however it's not true coz American don't know what's Football exactly:)) , so if you want to know the most realistic rating and reviews about any FIFA games plus PES games then check IGN (UK Edition), it's really bring to you all parts of the game with the most realistic analysis and reviews...

I don't know how do I express that I love you FIFA 11:))

@drekkard

Let's compare Fifa 10, Fifa World Cup and this Fifa 11.
Could you rate them from 0 to 10?

Mmmm, there's a factor of "deja vu" that makes every iteration worse than it's predecossor to me, even if I know they are vastly better in the technical department over the previous one.

It's hard to know how I would rate every one of them without having played the previous one, but I'll try. I'm rating full manual gameplay vs human. That's rating purely gameplay, not the "full package", if you get me.

Fifa10: 6.75
WC: 7.10
Fifa11: 7.25

The problem with Fifa 11 is that offers practically nothing new to a formula that was stagnating for me, and what it does well is "obscured" by the main flaws. Animations are great by themselves, ball physics are awesome, sense of urgency, clearances, long balls, etc... are great, but hindered by some basic principles that are done wrong (probably "voluntarily" done wrong to catter ot the masses). As it is right now, the final package offers not a better or most complete football recreation of the sport than WC to me. Fifa 11 is more smooth, but more "casual" (like Pes6 to Pes5). But many basics are dumbed down.

If they changed tackling and movement (no skating, proper inertia and weight), Fifa11 could ramp up dramatically to a 8.5 or 9, even with the crappy CPU AI as it is. And P+ and tactics could arise and shine a little more.

But these flaws are breaking any feeling of simulation and depth is gone, and makes the game feel flat at the end. Why bother with something that doesn't want to be what I want it to be?

Sorry if it's been asked already. For those who've played the game in CM (As Manager)do you receive annoying offers for your top players eg Barcelona-Fabregas/Mascherano.

Starting to get bad vibes now. I thought now ppl are starting to get the full game there would be more positivity about the place but it seems the opposite is happening.

I CAN'T TAKE ANOTHER YEAR OF ONLINE CHEESERS

As Tranmere, I didn't receive any offers for players who weren't on the transfer list anyway.

Although whether any clubs would be interested in Tranmere players anyway is a different matter...

I had already given up on single player mode due to the CPU AI issues but thought I would probably get Fifa 11 down the road sometime due to online. However now I won’t be bothering. The whole pro passing stuff and the ability for one to toggle elements on/off is just insane. Once again it sounds like the huge majority will have assistance on and the minority will have issues finding a decent game online.

I can’t be dealing with that again. EA really have screwed up this year and its gonna take some big things to win me over for Fifa 12.
