Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

Yep, they look the same to me. Isolate the penalty spot, the flat edge of the D, and the player standing between those two points on both screenshots. Looks about the same in terms of proportion.

I don't think there's an issue with scale. It'll be a combination of camera angle, speed of movement, and AI behaviour.

check this out. some club news:

No more multiple game rooms. fuck you EA. what a stupid decision to force everyone to play one game at a time. Ok for small clubs but not for larger clubs with 30+ members.

fucking retards EA are. one step forward, two steps backwards. BASTARDS

Not a huge deal since you can just go in right after the other squad finds a game. But still a removal that makes no sense in expediting clubs.

Wow I see something totally different - I see players in FIFA dwarfing the players in PES. Look at the goalies for example - Almunia (not a gigantic keeper himself) relative to his own goal is huge compared to the ratio of the PES keeper to his goal.

Next, look at the players below the Ds in each picture. Does the Arsenal player not look larger in comparison to the line stretching from the edge of the penalty area to the D than the PES player?

Edit: Okay, b/c I have a ruler at my desk I did the following: The Arsenal player is 3/8" on my screen and the PES player is 2/8"; meanwhile, the line from the bottom edge of the penalty area to the D in FIFA is 9/8" while in PES it is 8/8". Doing the math, that makes the player-to-line ratio in FIFA 1:3 whereas in PES it is 1:4.

Not that's not a great scientific test there and it doesn't account for other possible factors like camera angle differences and different players, but it seems to appear to me that the ratios are certainly different, with players in PES being smaller relative to the pitch than in FIFA. Like I said, not a perfect test but that's all I can do at the moment.

what do u mean? u cant just go in. only one team can play a game so if your late, tuff shit you got to wait until the other lads finish their game

Does it say that?

The point I have seen, says you have to wait until they have started a game before you can go in? it doesn't say you have to wait until the game is finished?

that's if i am understanding it correctly?

The PES picture is not good, it seems to be a photographed TV-screen, and alot of detail has been lost. The goalkeepers limbs seem to be bled out a bit by the grass color.

The main problem with FIFA pitches seeming smaller is that it takes players less time than usually realistic to move across certain distances, it's not much but players being able to turn 180 in an instant and pursue you, the AI always moving at the exact same pace (full stick-tilt dribble without sprinting) as soon as they receive a pass, and players in general being a bit more responsive than what is realistic, the pitch just seems smaller (or rather, there doesn't seem to be quite enough space).

Same thing with goalkeepers, they can move very quickly sometimes and sometimes jump REALLY far, which will give you the illusion of the goal not being big enough. If they just added more inertia and based response speed, turn speed and other movement speeds on real life, I figure everything would settle in quite nicely with the engine they have.

Okay, for what it's worth, here's the two overlaid with penalty spot lined up to penalty spot. The smaller PES screenshot is scaled up to try and roughly match where the 6 and 18 yard lines intersect.

Obviously this is going to be a flawed comparison until we have shots from the same camera angle, like you said, but to me it looks like they are similar enough scale-wise. Take it with a pinch of salt, if you like.

Might be better to overlay screen shots from the centre circle.

I chose the 18 yard box as an example as the angle of the camera make the 18 yard box look bigger in PES, you get more impression of it's width from that angle, compared with FIFA, where the looking straight across angle foreshortens it. You also see more of the pitch to the side of the 18 yard box in PES, again creating an impression of greater space. In FIFA, it looks cramped.

I think the PES angle is so much nicer. Actually, I can't understand how anyone thinks FIFA looks better, it looks almosty like a PS2 game with shit camera angles and shit lighting. Even in my crappy screenshot of PES, it looks far more real.

11 games played and I'm already starting to get a bit fed up with the skating motions, the "sliding" animation that happens with a tackle where the player literally slides across the screen in one motion, all players being able to turn with the ease and grace of a ballerina and the ping-pong tackling.

Not sure whether I've played it too much today or whether the cracks are starting to show already.

Mate its like NHL. you HAVE to wait until the other guys finished before u can play. like its been said, you can only play one game. no more 2-3 games played simultaneously

 ffs, make up your mind, Dags. You love, then hate, then love, then hate it again. It's like having Chris Davies back.

Account been charged for Fifa 11 by Shopto hopefully here for Thursday i wonder if going out tommorow would seem abit early though. :))

Going from what the guy says though, it just says you have to wait until the other squad gets a game...not until they finish?

2. Dressing Room - There are no more 3 rooms - It's simple, you pick your formation and the position and wait until an opponent decides to play you
* For those teams like PPB who have more than 1 squad you will have to wait until the other squad gets a game, no more 3 seperate rooms, similar to FIFA 09 clubs

Anyway I don't know much about clubs and you play it all of the time, so you will be right :))

I never understand why EA and Konami both take out things in games that they don't need to. It is very annoying.

I think the bottom line for me is that I play FIFA and it annoys me, I turn it off and put PES on and feel much better.

FIFA's not a bad game, I guess I'm more suited to PES and that style of gameplay.

It's done to encourage 10 v 10 in part. Doesn't make it right.

Is that an official title update leaving just one more for fixes or one of the new "no patch patches"?

Exactly what I was thinking... here we go again. What was it last year, is it a size limit or a limit to two official patches?

Really wish we knew what needs a download patch and what they can fix through their new offsite patching system, whatever it's called... Pro Patching maybe?

Disregarding that player arms don't matter since I measured the height of players, I'm not sure it's valid anymore to say FIFA feels smaller because of the acceleration speeds of players in FIFA - don't know if you've played both demos this year, but player speed in PES is definitely faster than in FIFA now that FIFA has totally gimped the sprint button.

the AI gets worse and worse as I play CM mode, the tackling and defensive system is really poorly done. And i dont notice stamina at all. Maybe i am not paying that much attention. I just think FIFA has a long way to go in the human vs cpu category.

^ Couldn't help it. Normally not this childish but I think I'm getting a little giddy considering that FIFA is only a day away from arriving at my doorstep.

I expect that I'll be smacked back down to reality soon after tearing off the packaging though.

I really would like to know as well if this thing about the passing speed and such is true, btw.

i found manual passing to be all fucked up, Semi would give you the power you need, but manual passing seems shit now. Even if you hold down the full power bar you can get a hard pass, and likewise you cant do short passes in space with manual, I had to play on semi, which is A LOT better then fifa 10, but still not manual.

I didn't mind it as much in the demo even though there were times when I felt that the error was completely arbitrary and not at all tied to me attempting a pass in a difficult situation. Normal through pass chips that I would make to a guy open in the middle of the field (not very far away from me) would go astray for no reason.

The passing speed was quite annoying though but I didn't have too big of an issue with short passes into space, or even close quarters passing. I just kept getting barged off the ball by the CPU all the time.

So is it true that you can't do a multiplayer BAP in the new career mode??? I know you could in Fifa 10, and that is all my friend and I played. CYC on World cup was so awesome with Co-op play.
