Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

After spending the last week playing the PES demo I was 99% sure I was going to buy it, but FIFA is just so much fun to play.
Its a little too fast, even on slow and the players turn in an instant with no weight transfer but apart from that I cant really pick any faults at the moment.
The week I spent with PES I kept playing it not because I was enjoying myself but because I was no good at it and wanted to improve, at times it was a chore to play to be honest. When I finally picked it up I liked it, thought it was a good game and massive improvement but I never had as much fun playing it as I do with FIFA.
I think FIFAs appeal is that its very pick up and play with no real learning curve. In only my second game I managed to go on an amazing run with Cronaldo, coming up from the side line dribbling past 4 players, I could recreate that in PES now, after playing 50+ games if I tired for a whole match. Also the passing moves and fluency of play that I can create in FIFA I would find much harder in PES and could not do it for most of the match as I do.
For the first time I really dont know which game to get, but at the moment I have the urge to keep playing FIFA over PES. Dont really know if it will stay that way, FIFA10 lasted me only a few weeks before I found it too boring and frustrating to play, they seem to have fixed all that though and I may just end up buying it over PES, again.

Anyone else unsure which game to get?

Don't post this in the PES forum they will hunt you down and burn you as a witch...:PIRATE:

I have yet to download either demo I'm always busy in the evenings at the mo, I must get round to it tonight and see what the build is like on the demo.

Remember guys if you want a hard core Sim we are going to have to push EA from now on, this game sells by the million, they are about as far as they will go down the Sim route without us pushing. Sliders are the only way I can see us getting anywhere near the Sim we want, where errors are common etc.
The kids will be up in arms at the first two passes going astray with the new sytem in 11 when they tap a button, or god forbid their star gets injured...

Heres my full thoughts Nick.

I feel this is as close to Fifa 08 as we are going to get bar your suggestion of sliders. For the first time in a long while its really hard to fashion space around the box for a shot, then when you do theres so much variation to shooting that scoring feels special when you pull it off unlike 10.

I think the speed is spot on on normal, i never felt it was too fast, but also felt that i could slow the tempo down when i needed too. Also you do notice the difference between teams. I started with Juve, and immediately they feel robust, lacking flair and more industrial with their play. In Fifa 10 no matter what team i played with on manual, for the most part i could easily switch wings with a long ball, at the back or in midfield. Here with Juventus i was switching the ball with the full backs and making a mess of them. They were either overhit completly, overhit, or unaccurate and made the player retrieve it. Compare that to Iniesta and especially Alonso, both can put the ball on a coin anywhere on the pitch. Alonso especially has loads of passing in his locker, lobbed, driven, its a real joy to see.

Skills are also apparent player to player, Del Piero while slow has good feet, of course so does Messi and Ronaldo, but try dribbling with Essien and you come unstuck. They seem to have the balance right.

The keepers are excellent. they've added in a load more animations, and they really react to the ball. The Leverkusen keeper made one excellent stop from a long range swerver from Essien and tipped it round the post, i should have uploaded it.

The shooting is magnificent. its like it was in 08. It dips and it swerves, you can hit it low and high, it bobbles and daisy cuts.

My only reservations so far, where that again the cpu doesnt really like shooting too often, a problem apparent in 10. However i heard that when they tested be a pro keeper a few weeks back they had user feedback that the cpu were not shooting enough so tweaked the a.i. Can anyone confirm this?

Also the 360 jostling is good but needs to be refined a bit, sometimes it feels like your player is stuck against an opponent even when hes getting away from him.

The graphics are improved, pitches look superb, ball physics superb and i love the goal nets - when tight the ball pings out of them, when loose the ball rolls around the back of them, Jflores will orgasm.

Nick im guessing this build is six weeks old? Some of the players havent been updated (no Ozil in Madrid, VDV at Madrid, no MAsch in BArca, Ibrahimovic in Barca).

As for pes i think it will be a nice alternative when i can play it on broadcast cam, but the passing and shooting aint a patch on fifa.

I've been a pes player for as long as i can remember.
I basically suck at tricks, too difficult for me and i end up breaking my thumbs.

Is it possible to get past the defender without all these tricks?

I also suck at the tricks, never remember combos so end up moving random directions that either work or don't! Thankfully yes you can beat a defender simply by a quick change of direction, playing as Juventus in the demo I dribbled around 2 defenders in the box leaving one on his arse just by using close control to dribble, then I squared it for Sissoko who of course blazed it over but it looked awesome :)

But it has to be a controlled, slow dribble...right? I'm having troubles with the buttons as well, since i'm coming from the pes setup.

I really have to learn playing this game. Sofar i'm liking it. Of course there are differences with pes. Both games have something going for them.
Fifa feels more fluid then pes, pes is better then previous versions but still a little clunky. I like the passing in pes a little better right now.

Edit : sorry, just reread your post, you mention the close control dribble...i guess that means button L2?

Anyway, i might just get 2 games this year.

a combination of normal dribbling, a burst of pace with sprint, the right stick for flicking it past a defender, close dribbling (L2 or LT) and skilled dribble (L2 & R2 or LT & RT) and you can beat defenders. I actually find it easier to beat defenders with a dribble on fifa than on PES, though I rarely use skills on either. (Note I'm also more practiced on Fifa)

Did a great spontaneous dribble with Fabregas earlier, did a back heal turn, ran into a Chelsea defender, bounced off him, hit close dribble to get through a congested path of 2-3 players and hit the flick stick to run towards goal only to be blocked off by bluddy Terry. He didn't even get a yellow :(

Well TBH it was a bit of a fluke so I'm not sure if I was using L2/LT close control dribble, most likely I wasn't because I usually forget to use it but I mentioned it just in case I did, I know I'm not being much help!

I posted the Nzb and it's on a million http sites now for torrent I don't know, archaic technology ;)

Sorry my mistake Placebo, I thought it's called a torrent (don't even know what's a torrent).
I was looking for that very file you talking about.

is there any difference with having the passing pressure assistance on or off?

I would like to know this as well.

Got home after work last night and watched Football then finally had my first ever go on FIFA 11.

Now the first thing that stuck out was this "Passing Power Assistance" in the control options.

I don't think I get it, is this the Pro Passing+ feature or is this on top of it as well ?

Is it there to offer more difficulty and human input error (fair enough with me, if it is)

But how are we allowed to turn it off ? won't everyone just turn it off for online.

I'm genuinely confused by it and have many Questions. Like whether if it's off is there still passing error based on the player in question.

Also I tried it on and off and it seemed easier to ping it about with it "off" ... when it is on though sometimes I am looking for the white mark and before you know it the white mark is at the start of the bar and I've zoomed past it already.

Also what does the white mark signify ? the power needed for crispest pass to the most immediate player in the direction my stick is pointing ?

What if I have 3 players in a row across the pitch and I want to bypass the nearer ones with holding the pass button in (as we have been doing on FIFA 10 & WC etc) now it seems to just get blasted at the guy nearest you as the CPU thinks you have just overhit your pass to him.

It seems it is on the bar for through balls as well .... is it taken into account for all passes even long ones and new driven ones ?

Thats all I can think of, off the top of my head on my rushed lunch break but please can one of you kind gents explain all I need to know about this feature "on" or "off" +'s and -'s in detail.

Thank You

One thing that I really liked about the new momentum system that seems to have been sort of implemented is the way that I could be waiting to receive a pass with Fab or Iniesta and the defender will anticipate me taking the ball and up the field but at the last second I'll tap the ball back in the direction that it came and then that way, successfully faking the defender out.

Then I try to start running and he catches me anyway. :p

Placebo (or anyone else who knows) - how do you download the demo and install from the links Placebo posted for 360? My brother is trying to get the PES demo which for some reason is still not available in the US for some reason... Thanks for the help :)

I think i used a standard dvd-rw and ImgBurn when i burned the wc demo for 360. No clue as for ps3. :)

DVD+R, I don't believe 360s read RW? Just burn the folder to the root of a +R then install into 360, go to game menu and it should show, better is to install directly to the HDD as it loads much faster but that's a bit more complicated :)

Gonna do a mini write-up about both games in a bit.

here's some examples of P+ that made me say "whoa":

Arshavin takes on 3:
http://www.easportsfootball.co.uk/media/play/video/36115684

Carlos Vela's turning circle vs Nicolas Bendtnar's:

Messi's cut:
http://www.easportsfootball.co.uk/media/play/video/36109318

You can definitely pull of some very realistic actions with players. Just saw Carlos Vela slam one back post with his left foot. It looked so good. And the celebrations for late goals are awesome. The players run off kinda hunched and determinted towards the crowd. So good.

Just moved up to legendary in the demo and it's been tight lol. Won my first 1-0 with Arsenal. I like Arsenal in this demo. You can overhit passess, missing out people and Fabregas more often than not will be there to get onto it. A lot of passing about is needed to create a chance in Legendary but that's cool. I just think EA need to Slow down the reaction of the opposition midfield to attack a tad to allow a little more dribble time. You can evade over-zealous defensive mids without any tricks now though so it helps. Sissoko got TWISTED by Denilson earlier. Left for dead lol.

Anyways, both demo's have been fairly positive imo. It's criminal that the FIFA demo is 3minutes though. Criminal. Sure you can cane it on EAsy with all assists on (like i've noticed some have blatantly been doing and then reviewing it as "same as the last on") but when you start to play with the options it's the most satisfying footy game i've played. I now have CPU switch control on LOW. I tried it on high and it was fine though. CPU basically helps you as the switch player so no more players stopping dead as you switch to them. I think "LOW is the best of both worlds here. Anyways, I've review both later. Played loads of PES2011 too this afternoon.

I've not seen the AI take 1 long shot in over 20 matches. I hate that. Can see CM getting very boring very quickly AGAIN.

lol it's there m8 trust me. If you play on world class i'm shocked that Leverkusen's Rofles hasn't shot against you like that yet. Also a lot depends on how their custom tactics (that you can't adjust in the demo) is set up. Some will have it set so they have lots of shots outside the box, others will have it set so as they go down the wing and put lots of crosses in the box.

I hope EA have actually assigned different custom tactics for every team this year. Last year was plain lazy on their part. None of the 2nd tier divisions had their cutstom tactics set at all. What's the point in the feature if they don't even use it themselves?

Firstly, in the assistance menu they borked the description somewhat - it should be the other way round. You want to set the Pro Passing Assistance to ON if you want Pro Passing's full effect.

That turns on, and off, the user-weighted element which means if you under weight it (less than the white marker) or overweight (more than marker) it should be an under/overweighted pass.

This is on direct/through passes. The contextual error element is applied to all passes, and can't be turned off.

I think it does, I remember burning one version of the WC demo that got stuck on the flag load screen. I then recall erasing the RW, and burning another version that worked fine. I seem to recall not being bummed about loosing a perfectly good DVD-R anyways, so I am pretty sure.

EDIT: Yup, a Philips 4.7GB DVD-RW is what holds my WC Demo. So if you got an RW, maybe try it first. My 360 is as stock as they come so no special mods should be needed anyways.

Also, thanks for the links Placebo, might be able to get a few games in tonight, much appreciated mate. :)

Momo Sissoko just smashed in a rocket from 25 yards against me, and I've seen the AI try it on other occasions as well. Just hope they'll tweak the AI before final release as I'm getting really tired of players like Gonalons and Mikel doing 360 spins in midfield all the time.
