Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

PES 2011 is the football game I'll be playing more of this year. I said that to Rod at the Emirates and that was before I'd played a build of PES as close to complete as the demo, which does genuinely seem to have 360 controls and greatly improved defensive controls.

As people said a good while ago, it's not likely to convert any of the FIFA thoroughbred. But it's certainly enough to turn the heads of those who jumped ship with the fall of PES. You'll certainly spend the first day or two hating it and wondering what has happened to the game. You need to accept that it isn't as free as FIFA and you will need to do some supercancelling and general readjustment. Stick with it a while and try to get a feel for who's doing what and why. Accept that it's not just an HD PES 5 and that it's not just FIFA done right. It's a different game and it shows what happens when you put a hell of a lot of effort into AI/individuality rather reaching for PS3.5 animations and only having room for PS2 AI.

Can't wait to play it - well - I can wait long enough to not need a PS3/PS+ subscription - but still. I think i'll be playing this demo before FIFA's.

In some ways I'm worried that I will like it more than FIFA. I'm starting to suspect I will once I get over the - why the fuck is shoot on the X button (which I'll forget to change) - and then it's going to make me want PES with 11v11. Oh cruel world.

Which is a VERY strong statement since you personally have put your heart and soul into FIFA being good this year!

If you want my thoughts on PES look int he impressions thread but let's stick to FIFA here. My Question now is:

If the game is again similar to FIFA 10 is anyone going to even bother playing this game realistically or doing the 'don't be cheap' code thing we all used to live by.

Or just play it like those youtube players do? For a bit of fun.

I've played multiple games on the PES2011 demo, but I REALLY don't like. It feels stiff and unresponsive. Even with Barcelona the players don't react quickly enough for my liking.

And the animations look stuttery, they just plain don't run fluidly. I'll reserve my final judgement for when I play the full game but my gut feeling tells me it will be FIFA for me again this year (which isn't bad). :)

@Klash:

FIFA 11 certainly won't have as much of that problem as FIFA 10 does, not even close hopefully. There are so many things wrong with FIFA 10 that it made a lot of it almost unbearable. Those things are mostly at least significantly improved. Of course, let's not be so sure that PES won't have abusable problems - the older ones certainly did.

On the other hand i can tell that FIFA animations looks not realistic too and ball looks like balon.

I think anything that's spherical looks like a balloon to you, good thing the ball in FIFA doesn't move like one.

PES's animations are definitely improved but compare each move like for like with FIFA's (for eg, turns and passes) and you'll start to realize what some of us mean by clunky

As someone who has only played Fifa for 3 years since going to the darkside, I absolutely love PES 11.

Sure it isn't perfect, but does so much stuff right, and there are brilliant individual touches etc.

I thought I'd never see this again from PES. It's been a joy to play tonight.

Played pes 11 demo and felt I had very little control. Very tracky and zig zaggy. Graphics were good and the passing felt free'a.....also the CPU ai was very well organised defensively. But still far inferior to FIFA in my opinion.

You need to stick at the game, this takes a long time to get used to. There were a few others who didn't like the game a t first but keep going a bit longer then stared to see the depth. It's not like FIFA where everything is easy, you have instant perfect control with lovely nice feeling controls. Which gets boring in no time. It takes time to get used to and time to master :)

Don't see how having more control makes FIFA boring. Having more control allows you to play more realistic football. Pro just doesn't feel right. Never felt like the football I was playing was compareable to real life. But was defo improvement. Animations were a bit strange, dribbling especially. Felt wry repetitive

Like Lami said, this is a thread for FIFA not PES!

Discuss in PMs or something. Lami, clear it up :)

I've been waiting to hear your impressions. I was getting a bit worried with the mixed feelings on the other side of the forums, and I still have reservations of my own, but I get the sense that there's some people who will get hung up on things like animations and not see the subtle touches of brilliance PES is known for. FIFA has traditionally had the better looks but you typically play PES for what's under the hood, and if you don't know what to look for - if all you see are clunky animations - PES likely will not appeal to you.

I am a bit concerned about the transition to PES after playing FIFA these last few years. Like others have mentioned we've been spoiled by FIFA's fluidness, but maybe more importantly I've been accustomed to the freedom FIFA so superbly delivers - freedom of both control and movement. When I switched to FIFA with 08, at least it was made easier for me because PES was so terrible (not to mention how accessible FIFA is, but that's another discussion.). FIFA 11, IMO, is likely to be another enjoyable game, so question for you Rom, what about PES 2011 does it for you that you see yourself spending more time with it than FIFA?

Sorry but this is just silly: improved "lovely nice feeling" controls with quick response times that allow for complete freedom of movement (within the laws of physics) should be a priority, and this is an area PES certainly lags behind FIFA in. Greater freedom and improved controls opens up further options in gameplay, and with more options the less likely the game will become boring.

Yeh, I think people are way too down on FIFA11. The game looks like what we asked for with FIFA10 and that's obviously part of the fraustration. But once we play it i'm sure it'll be a fine experience. With the full version we will see how deep P+ & PP is. No way they make them THE lead features and half-arse them.

But I've said this for ages and i'll say it again though, I'll 100% be getting PES this year. Not for any fanboy reasons but because Konami have finally sorted their lives out. The tactical side of PES is so far ahead of FIFA right now that i'm sure Rutter and co. dread to even look at their competitor's game. It's not only the interface that is superior with tactics but it ACTUALLY WORKS on the field (to an extent).

That's the very next thing EA need to tackle imo. P+ might not be enough to add varied gameplay but i'm sure that Team AI will be a BIG thing for FIFA12. I think I would die of joy If i could finally play a lower league team that sit deep defending and wait for the counter for their one chance, in a FIFA game!

As long as FIFA11 has a decent manager mode i'll be happy. Clubs will keep me busy and as will Live Season etc. PES is for Master League really.

I think it's the player size...

And camera. Notice in PES as you go towards goal you see a lot of off-field stuff (huge chunks of running track etc).

You can see much more of the pitch in PES. That's dated back for ages.

Im not sure how people have come to conclusions on what they will play more this year?

Im sure ill buy both as PES now looks play able which means hopefully combined i could get close to 6 months out of them until the build up to PES 2012 and FIFA 12.
