Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

Posted this in the Pro forum as well.

Had a couple of games, haven't played since pro6 so looking with fresh but nostalgic eyes, been playing fifa since then.

The forward runs from my team mates are a bit poor, the never seem to run beyond and the lack of the L1 button to make them is hard to get used to.

I haven't seen much of the advantage rule either.

It has made me smile twice already and stop the game to view replays of moves i've put together, and the player individuality is great, i've missed it so much. Enjoying it so far.

To tell you the truth i think i might have enjoyed it more in 2 games then i did in a whole year of fifa. Thought thought of starting a ML with Castello and the old gang is making me worry about Fifa making it into my household. Its very solid all over, and feels like it will take time to master just like the old days, and that a casual gamer wouldnt be able to beat someone who plays it often, which i also used to love.

Not having the L1 forward runs is killing me though.

Edit: Graphics look good on replays but on wide cam aint that great, but that might just be the ps3, and the -2 speed setting is perfect.

Trouble with Pes is that it feels good as a change from Fifa initially. I went back to Pes in the summer after getting board with Fifa 10 and it was a breath of fresh air for a month, then the realisation kicked in that it actually really isnt that great and i rebought a second hand fifa 10 and the difference is all too clear.

I think Pes has become a game that, really, you wont invest a years gameplay in, you will only use it as a stopgap or break from too much Fifa gaming, which is a shame.

had a few more games.....

advantage rule is still nowhere to be seen, but the fouls that are being called are good.

the right stick feels better to do tricks with then fifa, but.........you cant flick it to take a big touch which im missing, the alternative r1+r2 is ok, but u have to be already running plus want to go to a angle, feels like i've gone back in time really.

the runs in the final third are really starting to get to me now, my full backs wont overlap properly and my forwards wont play on the shoulder, without L1 theres nothing i can do about it, and i cant find a option for forward arrows anymore.

finding it a bit difficult to win headers as well not just 50/50's but ones coming across the box, my defenders are not always interested.

i admit these issues may due to me not knowing all the buttons and i got no idea about that card system or how to change it.

Edit: just read that back and it seemed negative, the rest of the game feels great to give you both sides of the story, these are just the frustrations that are standing out to me.

Yeh i agree with this too. It's just the change that feels good but then you realise Fifa is still the superior game. After reading some of the comments from evo web, i'm liking that Klashman has said its difficult. This has to be implemented to the Fifa game too, make it a difficult challenge on Legendary setting.

By the way that video showing Barca vs Bayern..and the first goal....i think its Iniesta reacting to a goalkeeper parry with a bicycle kick....i mean really?? That shit still exists in pro? Damn.

P.S How do people take Jimmy's posts seriously? I mean the guy thinks konami can do no wrong. The ultimate fanboy. His posts make me smile though :) I suppose as long as your happy, its all alright :)

It took me months to shake PES when I switched to the Dark-Side :PIRATE: and I expect the same if/when I go back into the light ...

konami totally got the jump on EA this year, in all senses of the word. Media release, Demo and release date. The game looks great too. Something seems a little "off" with EA and their game this year. Not sure what.

i think the graphics are worse then fifas but they're not terrible, on the wide cam the players look a bit jagged but its not a dealbreaker, and i think the variation in animation is better on pro.

It's the linking animations that are bad in PES. Some of the passing and shooting animations are quality imo. Once konami put any importance on linking animations they may have something special.

Anyways, here's a vid from the gamerbase tour (london). I was there but much later in the day so i missed all this tv stuff :( :

I'm more excited about the final release than the demo tbh.

Frustrates me beyond belief to hear of all the toning down of features such as Pro passing. If they'd tried it and didn't quite nail it, then fair enough, at least they tried. But the very fact they have lessened the effect intentionally to appease casual fans just makes me scream. It means they or some of them don't have the same goals as me and most of us on this board.

Hopefully PES will be quality this year and it'll give em a kick up the backside, so EA finally reach the potential of this engine in 2012.

Unfortunatley those casual fans number a few million, they will allways be reluctant to move too far from that base... ;))

defiantly wouldn't say its more arcadish. that vid was really fast though so i reckon there was way it was on -2.

i do hate the automated kick off and the way the camera zooms up, i feel like im missing out on a good 3 seconds at the start of the game.

Yeah FIFA's far better with their animation blending, but that tends to work against their favour too as it makes the players seem too agile. And at the rate that they're putting in new animations even for the simplest of movements, we're gonna be playing with teams of parkour artists in FIFA15.

They just need to sort the inertia out and add real-time pitches then...

I personally don't even think they would need sliders if they nailed ProPassing. More error with bad passess from bad players would be good (we'll see in final version). I'd like to see passes more reward for hitting the perfect pass. So with a perfect pass the ball zips along the surface and the reciever can turn quicker after controlling it (stat based). But with bad passes the reciever has to control the ball allowing the closing player more time to shut down his angles.

Nick C, you played a lot of FIFA11 the other day. Were you happy overall with the gameplay? Were there any stand-out moments that made you smile or anything?

Still? PES 2010 was less "arcadey" than FIFA 10... PES 2011 looks much improved, and FIFA 11 looks no more realistic than 10...

PES 2010 sucked ass man. 2011 may be improved, but not enough for me. It has it's good moments, but that's it. Ping pong passing is so prevalent and easy to do. By the looks of that Justin.TV it's still the case in 2011. PES is the game you play for when you get bored of FIFA.

Yeah, PES 2010 was a pretty shit game overall, but it was still a truer representation of football than FIFA 10.

PES always was the game you play when you get bored of FIFA, as it releases later and always has, I can't see FIFA holding my interest for too long this year - I only played FIFA 10 for Clubs and for tricking people into manual matches (the latter won't be possible now I don't think) so when the novelty of the very few new things wears off, it'll probably just be the same old repetitive FIFA...

But people will complain about responsiveness and then EA will again try to make the animation blending even quicker like we've seen from FIFA08-09. I don't get why people don't notice that in any real game of football, there's a freeform flow of movements but those individual movements themselves are a bit more methodical and deliberate (players take the time to control their footplanting, inertia, stance, etc before executing a pass, doing turns, shoot, etc I mean, just look at the video below) so if you translate those into the game, they're not supposed to be very responsive throughout the match. Playing 07 last night was a breath of fresh air because of its far slower pace; every pass seemed like a calculated move as opposed to how it feels so effortless now.

Not sure bout "real-time pitches" though :P

none of them is close to representation of football . Pes2011 is like Pes 2010,5 and is not game what i waiting for . Yes i played demo by few hours today. Bored me after 15 games. Its bad because i know Fifa11 is only for 3-4 months .

Right, the new FIFA 11 forums have been transferred:

http://forum.ea.com/uk/categories/show/10.page

So far, my thoughts are a completely unnecessary change of utter irrelevance which is just going to make everything irritating. Apparently they've transferred over important threads. Of course, that means that they haven't transferred over enormous numbers of important threads.
