Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

Back to the lame weight to play the game again; not sure what I'd think if I hadn't played it. Amazing range of views from those who've played this game.

Yeah it's kinda odd. But I trust yours and Roma's the most. How far do you think P+ has gone? I see it making a bigger difference in CM than online.

Rod and Rom, for the AI play, which game would you buy? I can only buy one of the two until christmas, and well, for me playing ML or CM will be the top priority. I was wondering (because I identify with your opinions the most on what a football game should be) which game do you see yourself spending most of your time in? It all opinion but I would like to know both of your thoughts, if its not too inconvenient.

Most of these traitss were around in 08, only to be taken out in 09 and 10, they have brought them all back and aaddeds some new ones in. We will have to wait until getting deep into i'd a a career mode to really test them.

They made a slight difference in 08, some more than others!

You think they made a difference in 08? My recollection is they were meaningless, and that's why EA took them out.

But that's the big question when it comes to traits for '11 - will they be relevant? I hope they have an impact as they'd go a long way toward making P+ worth its name.

I'm also hoping they aren't permanent in CM, so as a young player develops he may earn new traits, but I expect that may be asking too much of EA.

They were never taken out they were hidden. In Fifa10 they made a difference not least in the commentary, play with someone with the long shot trait or the playmaker trait for example and the commentators make reference to it.

Really? I had no idea. I'll ask the obvious question though: if they're hidden, how can you be sure they're actually there?

Next question then, why did they hide them?

And how would a trait like "long shot" make a difference? Is it that when the CPU controls that player he will be more likely to take long shots? Is the trait then only relevant when CPU controlled?

No idea why they hid them, sucks IMO, as for how I know they're there because I'm a data editor and have been since Fifa08.

Long shots would mean that 1. AI controlling that player shoots more often from range with more success than someone without the trait and 2. human controlled the player with that trait will have more success when shooting from range :)

Another frustrating night on FIFA world cup online. Pressure whores out tonight. This is becoming a real game breaker for me now and if fifa11 hasn't properly addressed this then I'm really going to have to consider the other game. I'd rather play an inferior game and have fair match ups compared to the shit that is served up with the FIFA series.
Aaaagggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

I hope they've got it right too. I was fairly happy with pressure, I still think the game has a tendency to be played fast without a huge amount of reason not to, if that makes sense.

Yes last night I was very irritated. It's not just the pressure alone but the way that you just steam rollererd off the ball with no fouls being awarded. And Spain, England and Brazil are the worst teams for this. Now reports have come in about fifa11 being much better with this but I don't want much better, I want it gone. Get rid of the assisted bias that is so clearly in the game code. I can live with the assisted passers hut it's the pressure and physicality that is killing the game.

I think it needs more toning down but you couldn't just hold pressure to tackle through people anymore. It can infact be avoided altogether with the more skillfull players and a decent move of the left stick. I will say though that Essien is a beast in the game and playing against chelsea online will be a headache.

Just started experimenting with 3* and lower teams in the WC game (offline) and it's amazing how much slower the game plays. I'm actually finding these games much more enjoyable. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with because the lower level teams aren't nearly as quick, there's less a tendency to rely on speed. Don't know if this is sort of what you're hinting at, and I wonder if when I play with another 5* whether I'll find myself changing my play style to adjust for faster/quicker players, if that makes sense.

Try playing with Iceland and you'll see what I mean. Now if only I could get those fellas to shoot straight...

I really think dribbling is a major factor in this problem. No matter which player I'm controlling, I never feel empowered with the ball at my feet, I never feel that I have the advantage when a defender makes a brash decision to rush in rather than contain.

In reality a defender has two choices: he can either choose to go for the tackle and risk either fouling or failing to stop the dribbler altogether, or he can choose to contain the dribbler, wait for backup and/or force the player into a difficult pass/shot. Choosing the first option, IRL, tends to be the riskier of the two, and the preference is usually to contain, or at least slow the momentum, and wait for the opportune moment to go for the ball or force a mistake.

In FIFA, however, because of the imbalance between dribbling and defense mechanics, the only real risk going in for a tackle without first slowing down/containing the dribbler is a foul, but even then the play has been stopped, so the decision typically pays off. IMO, it's not just a problem that defensive pressure/tackling is overpowered, but even more important is that dribbling, esp. close-quarters dribbling, is way underpowered.

Until you've played it mf, I wouldn't try to understand the changes to pressure/dribbling. You are presuming it's indentical to how it used to be - and this really has changed quite a lot. Not claiming it's enough - but it's really not. You definitely can use dribbling to pass players a lot more now.

Good point, though my post wasn't so much about 11 but observations from the WC game. I've learned to respect your judgement so I'll take your word for it atm. Really excited to get my hands on it.

Speaking of defense though:

Don't get excited though - it looks like they might have recycled the vid from FIFA 10. Maybe a couple new animations but that's all the difference I can see from it.

The guy makes a good point. The PS3 version is probably wayyyy different.

Also is it just me or don't you find people who post their gamertags EVERYWHERE asking for a game (often with a nice comment like 'who fancy a game on fifa world cup 2010 on ps3 add me dannyboyrash and then i will kick ass') a little bit weird. What would be the difference between trying to a find a game that way and playing a random quick match?

"In order to disrupt the opponent, you'll NEED to press."

"Press and hold A."

Oh, fuck off.

Really annoying. I mean, it's not even true in FIFA 10, let alone 11. Absolutely pathetic. I'm going to send in feedback about these stupid videos because they actually are important - the fact they never make decent mention of assistance controls too really irritates me.
