Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

They should allow us to import our own png templates similarly to how we can import pictures of our face for the virtual pro!

that is the future!

Actually, Rutter did say stuff about this. Basically, the reason he didn't really want to do this involved enormous penises, and that is a quote.

Okay....So why not just do it like Gameface in clubs where the opposing team just sees your generic mug?

I think that probably will be where we're headed, I guess. He also said Microsoft make this kinda stuff quite difficult, not sure how true that is. Forza Motorsport definitely had problems - and still does, and they don't allow pictures to be uploaded for that either.

I mean, there is no reason why we can't have swearing in the chants we'll upload for FIFA 11 - so it seems strange not to allow this stuff clientside.

I think I just came seeing those nets.I used to laugh and point fingers at the net fetishist but I've become one myself and I'm proud of it

Yeah and PES still has the same edit mode on both PS3 and 360.

I don't know what the PES guys are doing but that game just looks like a football match. I used to hate the little kid-bodied, tucked in shirt player models, and to be fair they're still not perfect, but everything from that, to the pacing, the pitch, the lighting, the camera angles. I like the look of it waaaaay more than FIFA 11 right now and I used to hate PES. Still haven't purchased or played a single one and to be honest it was always because of the lack of licenses. Though I've always marveled at the number of things you could do on the pitch (and then barfed a bit because there was no way I'd learn them all :p).

There's one spot where Kuyt is being charged down by a France player and instead of the guy going through him, knocking him to the ground and taking the ball, Kuyt turns the other way on him, France player stumbles a bit and has to plant his foot to come back the other way. Not sure why I should be so excited about that, but it's just one of many things that really made me like that vid.

Of course the players still move a bit robotically and the way the ball moves across the ground is a bit funky, but it looks like a real game.

Gourcuff cheated on the corner kick at 3:03 though, lol. And I see they don't have his pitter patter run-up like Jenas and Lamps.

Now onto one of those videos posted earlier:

Pro Passing

Anyone got word from Rutter or Gary Paterson about what they've done to...ya know...turn Pro Passing back on? Cuz this video pretty much says that it's all cosmetic as far as I'm concerned.

LOL I was nect to the VIP2gaming guys while they recorded the vid. Not sure if they were allowed but they hogged that booth for about 3 hours, no lie :lol They were tooling around a lot in the arena with the gk vs player mode. :rolleyes

You can't take it off (PP), just the visual aids for it, and it's a lot harder to build an attack with bobbly passes you have to control first than you think. You'll see when you play the demo. Probably best to make a decision then. If you feel it's not enough then, EA will likely change it with astealth update on launch. Doesn't need much though, I promise you. I would hate for them to change it and then for me to barely be able to control shit when i take control of a Leeds or a Charlton.

Yeh this PES vid is great, I said so when it was shown a week or so ago. But it doesn't surprise me. Konami have ALWAYS been the best at presenting the best bits of the beautiful game in videogame form. They just "get it". EA has always had the tech and licenses over Konami but lacked the artistic flair that PES/ISS has always had.

ISS was doing Beckham's freekick animations and Ljungburgs running style in a time where players noses were made from a single polygonal pyramid. Even in the shitty 2010 version of PES I remember seeing Gourcuff look over his shoulder before recieving the pass. Really, these nuances that flicker through a match during PES are what EA is trying to do with P+. Having played the game I can honestly tell you that EA's own way they've succeded (you'll see) but no one is going to beat Konami for the shit they do. The subtle shit that EA would never see. The camera starting low and raising up at the start of a game. Pato's heart celebration etc. It's the little things that PES has to do to distinguish itself from the licence ravished FIFA series.

That's why I'm getting both this year. FIFA is going to be a shit-tonne of fun to play, especially through a premier league season as a manager (hopefully glitch free). PES will have ML and with the downloadable option file it will have all player faces and names in check and some fresh takes on football gaming (all the formations and strategies etc).

Can't wait.

Anyone know if it's possible for them to make a last minute roster change before the demo drops? As they'll have Lyon available to play with...there's this really good French playmaker who's just signed with the team who I think a few people would really like to play with.

Is this about the time that the demo gets completely locked down and sent to MS for approval or does that happen a little bit closer to the demo release date?

I'd say "overrated playmaker"

I'd say "overrated playmaker"

Lol, I wouldn't go that far. One WC does not a player make. I'd say his 2008/2009 Bordeaux season is more of an indication of what he can do, but he (and the entire French squad for that matter) did f*ck up quite spectacularly in South Africa though...

This is most definitely not something that a player does by accident :SMUG::

Le Petit Zizou

I'm pretty sure every player has had his moment of brilliance but how often can you do that in the long term is the key. He's the most hyped player in France and the crazy thing is that he wasn't Bordeaux'best player last 2 seasons (it's either Carasso,A.Diarra or Chamakh).

Yeah it's just one move (just happens to be my favorite of all his highlights so far) but my point was that the quality is undoubtedly there. Like, serious quality. Zidane type quality. Injuries and a stretched team seemed to be Bordeaux's downfall last season and we all know about the WC. This might be a make or break year for him in the eyes of some.

If we're being honest, Gourcuff made Chamakh what he is (which still isn't much). Luckily for Marouane, he's got a plethora of passers at Arsenal to give him service. Carasso is Carrasso and it was the team defense that helped them the most that season. And I feel like Diarra came to the forefront after Diawara left for Marseille in the off-season. The best of those three that you mentioned was Diarra but he didn't have anywhere near the impact that Yoann did.

I don't want to be the guy to say "you must not have watched him enough..." but if you can get your hands on it (and I'd actually like to know where I can get this as well) try and get the 08/09 season review. He carried that team on his back and w/o him they wouldnt've come close to the title.

I suppose I'll just leave it at that. I watched just about every game of Bordeaux's during the title-winning season either via stream or Setanta Sports so I like to think I have a pretty good grasp of the team's makeup that year.

I'll definitely admit that he seems to have regressed a bit since then, but the quality is there. Let's see if his head is in it though.

FIFA for 360 and PES for PS3 if it's any good.

Me too. My first Pes since Pes 6 (I dont count the others I bought and gave back within days)

As I'm a tad out of the loop with the PS3 can we get decent Option files via USB with kits, player names, Bundesliga etc (Is the Bundesliga in now?)

Sorry for going off-topic, we all used to play PES hence being on this site, I'm just not sure what you can and cant do.

It's ridiculous how much better the lighting is in PES vs. FIFA... and how much of a difference that makes to the overall quality of the presentation on the pitch.

EA really needs to hire the lighting designer away from Konami, looks amazing.

It does look nice, some of the FIFA pitches make the game look far better than others I found though...

fully agree with pes always having those nice touches. I still remeber playing iss98 (or something) and even with the limited graphics of those days it way so easy to pick out players such as Bergkamp or Shevchenko and especially Kluivert.
I still recall watching Edgar Davids for the 1st time with glasses and his rasta hair. It was great.
That is why its been so disappointing the last 3 editions to see that the animations sucked.
I still remember the days of pes3, which had stunning header. You could see the player really slamming his head to the ball.

I really wonder what happened with all that when going next gen. To me that seems so simple, making a correct running/heading/passing animation.

Anyway, hope both games are good this year

Let's continue as spoiler as I don't wanna ruin this thread for others.
haha the funny thing is that you assume I haven't seen him enough.I must have practically watched every single match of Gourcuff since his Rennes days to last week against PSG.
Season reviews will show you nothing if you wanna see the real value of a player. It's funny you're ready (rightly) to use the injury excuse as a possible explanation to his bad form but not also do it for A.Diarra whose absence was more felt by Bordeaux each time he was out.

I'm not saying that Gourcuff isn't a good player, just that he is just another Zidane wannabe. He has a pretty face his father is loved among the media segments and he's a decent/good footballer. You have perfect ingredients combined to have an overrated/hyped player who wasn't in truth the best Bordeaux player in their title winning side like you said.
I'm not saying that out of nowhere, it's just common knowledge between long time Bordeaux supporters I often talk football with. The truth is that if you wanna know what his former fans really think of him then you might be really surprised.

Just arrived from holidays after 20 days. Had to catch up with the thread. I've been VERY disappointed with all I've seen and read. So far it seems a marginally tweaked fifa 10 and I already see the unacceptable positional flaws of past fifas still present:

Defenders not marking nor anticipating, strikers always receiving alone in the midfield, defenders breaking the line absurdly...

Having watched some PES videos, I still see the big glitches PEs still has, and there's something in the passing physics that still put me off. But, positional play is much much better.

Fifa has turned just a "go forward" experience for what I've seen.

I know that nick and others have tried the game and say it's not exactly like that, but I'll have to wait for the demo. Thanks for all the posts and efforts and info you're compiling. It's been great spending the last 2 hours reaidng all of you guys.

Exactly, there is nothing more to add. As a French who follows the Ligue 1, I can just confirm kouroux' words !
Gourcuff is a good player, but he's a bit overrated. He's a promising player but isn't such a good playmaker.
Gourcuff isn't properly a playmaker as Zidane or Platini, he is not a number 10. His long pass accuracy allows him to play as Pirlo or Xavi.
By the way, Murkurial, Gourcuff didn't "make" Chamakh LOL. Chamakh was a good player way before Gourcuff came to Bordeaux...And please, don't tell me "you've not seen him enough etc etc", I've been following Ligue 1 for more than 10 years...

20 Days holiday, damn what job have you got... :P

On the demo and feedback side it really is hard to cover everything you want in the time you are given and as you have the best sides and mostly playing 1v1 it's tough to get a feel for how the AI organises things..

I do think though the general consensus is it's a step in the right direction just not the leap we were hoping for, I think it's hard for EA as they have to cover the casual gamer, the 12 year old button masher up to the guys like most on hear that want the game to move to as true a Sim as we can expect from the tech, I fear we will always find the game to soft for our liking... :P
