Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

but you can't play manuel matches online via ultimate team i don't think? everyone else is fully assisted, its a horror show half the time

Yes, that´s a problem. This year they put a leaderboard for online ranked matches only for manual, so maybe they make the same for ultimate team and put an option for online players only to play against each other.

Yes, it will be. The only bonus this year is that we have a manual leaderboard, and an ever growing community - though I wouldn't overlook how much less difference there is between assisted/semi/manual thanks to PP.

I think this guy has point:

Looks like Gary needs press for an Arcade/Sim split for FIFA 12 and give us the error in this video. I've seen NOTHING like this in the videos and I still don't agree with making the game ridiculously easy so people who have no interest in the sport will suddenly want to play.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to determine that if I keep trying to make this pass or shot with one guy 10 times and it never works, and I give it to this guy and try it and it's on the money..."hey, maybe this guy is better at passing/shooting and I should try and get him the ball in the right spot." That doesn't even have anything to do with soccer. "Hey this Joey Graham guy can't dribble or shoot, but this Kobe Bryant dude seems to be amazing at both, let me give him ball more often one the offensive end of the court..."

Honestly, I almost completely forgot about that video but I remember how excited I was when I first saw it. As someone said earlier though, they've pretty much turned it off.

I wonder if they would ever give thought to seperate club modes. A manual lobby, and an assisted, or hopefully semi if they decide to get rid of assisted.

I like the sound of That I like playing some stuff semi and manual but against the high pressure all assisted online it felt really gimped cause. You could never react well enough

Ok lads without going through the whole thread, whats the general concense of fifa 11?

does pro passing make a difference?
player likeness?
response times?

I have had a very busy fucked up day which nearly resulted me getting made redundant!

Just got back fellas. will do a write-up a little later after a nap.

General concensus @ the gamerbase event was "Whoa mate, dis is completely slower like innit?"

Look out for my impressions later.

+1 Well said. Players will learn. So they are basically afraid if they make the game realistic and difficult (difficult meaning passes can be misplaced) the casual fan will run away? It just seems so insane. Like you say, they dont make everyone shoot/dunk the same in NBA 2K because they don't want players getting frustrated that they can't hit a jump shot with Eddy Curry.

I think the only way to fix this, if they really want to have their cake and eat it too, is to have difficulty level be associated with different settings. They allow this in Madden, you can play online on All-Madden or All-Pro etc. Essentially if you play Pro level (can't remember what the level below world class is) it's on assisted, passing error is lower, all the things they don't want to put in the game because it would take a brain to understand etc. World Class is semi, which has all the hardcore settings minus being on manual, then Legendary can be Manual.

This will also give people an incentive to try these settings because 'good players' don't want to be on the weenie ladder, they want to be with the best players. Right now, to get Semi, people have to actively start a game and go find semi and change it, and for most people there's no reason to do it. This way you don't force anyone to do it, but if you want to play with the big boys, you have to.

I think the game is going to be a lot of fun this year but it's so frustrating that it could be so much better but certain aspects have to be dumbed down for casuals. The only other answer would be sliders, but they won't have sliders online so I think this would be a better option, though I hope next year for sliders as well regardless

Honestly that second video makes the game look absymal. If it can actually play like that then i expect that to be what a lot of online assisted games to look like.

I actually had the pleasure of playing two different fifa 10 players earlier. One who is fair and decent player who seems to want to replicate football and one who is, what is affectionately known here, a pressure whore. The difference between the two is huge and it's so much more fun when you play with two players who don't constantly barge at each other all game. I really hope pressuring is truly nowhere near as effective as it constantly in Fifa 10.

If you're interested the 'pressure whore' chose Newcastle and i couldn't do anything because as soon as i received the ball within 30 yards of his goal (that happened much more often than him to me) he would charge at me with Barton, Smith, Campbell or Colloccini who would win the ball first time from the mostly hapless Lille midfield. I was on semi passing and when there is nobody near to pass to then it's hard to avoid beyond barged out of the way. Joyfully he had Andy Carroll up front who ofcourse because he is tall meant that he must be strong too, according to the rules of Fifa 10, and duly had fun pushing my defenders off the ball or generally out of the way the 3 times or so he was near or in my box. Wonderfully scoring a hattrick in the process. I lost 4-2 and i'm not annoyed because i lost but just in the manner because i was slowing play down to look for openings and he was just pushing me out of the way with his bigger players.

We weren't even playing assisted controls either. I always thought that you could avoid a lot of issues in Fifa 10 by dodging playing against assisted users but it went to show me that there are other fundamentals that need to be fixed.

I know stamina is actually relevant in Fifa 11 but does this include tiring players out for constantly pressuring?

I'm done looking at gameplay vids - I don't trust 'em anymore and they tend to just piss me off.

Big thanks to everyone who has written impressions, and a bigger thanks for calming my worst fears - it's definitely been a better week so far!

yeah awesome impressions

the gripes
My only fault in the game was 1 particular glitch! Which i found, my player got tackled! And then was injured!, however the cut screen showed a different player laying down on the floor to the person who was actually injured! Lol funny I know! But the worst thing! After they are substituted off! The player who FOULED me, was awarded the free kick!

This was my only gripe! I reported it and hopefully it will be sorted before the game is released!

Very positive (and overwhelmingly enthusiastic) impressions there, the player traits and personality bits are music to my ears...And is that a handball foul I see in the last video?

The biggest issue I see with the videos is people trying to play the same way they played fifa 10 trying to use the same pass, trigger run, pass, trigger run, which is not that effective so it makes it look quite crappy... also I guess that's good news for people like me that don't play that way and like to pass the ball around and build up play.

just a question here.

in past Fifa iterations, are we able to select and play as CPU teams in custom cups of smtg? this has been missing in PES and is one of the main reasons I might purchase Fifa if it exists in Fifa. anyone can confirm?

Speaking of this guy...

Does anyone who played at any of the playtests recall seeing a corner or FK taken by Lamps? I ask because I'm curious if Personality+ has gone as far getting his short steps in the run-up to striking the ball. I PM'd Gary earlier today on the official forums (surprised he's actually responded to about 3 of mine so far and in the forums; not a bad guy at all...) asking if Personality+ extended to Yoann Gourcuff who takes his FKs and corners in a similar manner (as does Jenas for instance). He didn't really answer that part of my question though.

Yeah, I know...not gameplay. But Personality+ has been oiled up and squeezed together in front of our faces for the past couple months and I'd like to know if we get to touch, so to speak.:P

"Personality+ is by far the most innovative thing I have ever seen in a football game"
Innovative :LMAO:

I'm glad that (by the sounds) it is noticeable and makes a difference, although I wouldn't trust any review containing that many exclamation marks, but... come on. Innovative.

The biggest issue I see with the videos is people trying to play the same way they played fifa 10 trying to use the same pass, trigger run, pass, trigger run, which is not that effective so it makes it look quite rappy... also I guess that's good news for people like me that don't play that way and like to pass the ball around and build up play.
One-two forward pass, over and over and over and over. Cheese central. Why do people bother playing online? :P

They should put that quote on the back of the box.

YouTube - Fifa 11: Gamerbase Playtest

Please could somebody upload that video somewhere or reupload it without
the music because I really want to see it but I can't because it
has content of WMG and PIAS and is blocked in Germany :/

8 seconds in when Anelka initiates a one two with Drogba, why does Drogba lift/chip/pass the ball with his left foot? The animation makes it look even worse.
