Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

Which is why its crazy to see people think that PES is only played any bought by core gamers. Plenty casual gamers play PES.

Sometimes I wonder whether "casual" for many people means American, i.e. not football knowledgeable. FIFA has always sold better in the States than PES/Winning 11 - EA of course has a strong presence in the US - while PES traditionally was known as the European gamers choice.

no/yes?

Edit* Just want to say that's not what I mean when I refer to casual gamers, just possible observation of others' intentions when they use the phrase.

Well said:WORSHIP: Another problem is that many people are still living in the past, where FIFA was the arcade game and PES the realistic one, even when the situation changed in last 2 or 3 years.
FIFA can by thousand miles better than PES but they will still call it an arcade game and PES will still be the FOOTBALL game for them. I loved PES (3 to 6, I even liked 2008), but I never enjoyed a football game more than FIFA 10 on manual controls. Its simply the most rewarding experience. I would never trust I would say that...
It looked like PES will be back on the right way with 2010 (I believed it!), but after seeing all videos, you just see ale the pathetic and annoying things you saw in 2008/9/10 are still there.
Of course FIFA has also its flaws, but at least for me theyre not as critical as in PES. Im not a fanboy of PES or FIFA, I will play the game I find better...
Im also a little dissapointed about the p+ and pro passing we have seen so far, but overall I would be happy with evolution from FIFA 10, I dont need revolution. Wasnt this Konamis way some years ago?:CONFUSE:

You're preaching the wrong crowd. You're in a forum where many of its members were PES Fans in the past and converted to Fifa because PES became arcady in their opinion. So I'm not quite sure what you're talking about there.

In the end, this is just a game of fake football designed to waste our free time.

I think most of us (me incluced) need to learn to not treat it as such an important thing :P.

Gary Patterson (Gameplay Produce @ EA) just made ANOTHER thread:

Hi,

There is a lot of talk about the pressure button so I thought I'd just let you know what we have done this year to make it slightly less effective:

a. Tackling
- Tackle animations are slower than in FIFA10, that is to say that they are longer to ball contact (less responsive if you like).
- Tackle animations are shorter than in FIFA10, that is to say that the players have less reach with their tackles (attribute based).
- There are more errors in judgement on when to launch a tackle than in FIFA10 (when the dribbler has started a turn, a players ability to predict the direction of the turn - attribute based)
- Tackle animations have better momentum preservation than in 10, therefore defenders cannot break momentum in order to get the ball from you

b. Pressing
- Has more delay in its target update after the ball changes direction (attribute based) so you will not be able to hone in on the ball quite so powerfully.
- Has delay to read the ball trajectory during a pass (attribute based) so you should be under less pressure when you recieve the ball.

c. Locomotion
- Is slightly slower accelerating from stand than it was in 10. This is because we are algorithmically controlling the players speed (therefore his is sticking to his definded acceleration curve) whereas last year this was an animation. This means that he player will take slightly longer to get to you.
- Does not allow the player to acclerate and turn (once above jog speed), this was allowed in FIFA10. Again, this means that he player will take slightly longer to get to you.

d. Dribbling
- Has better shielding than in FIFA10. For example, the player will auto shield from a defender if you turn away from him.
- Jostling is less clear cut than in 10 therefore giving more time to escape or pass the ball.

e. Stamina/Fatigue
Hopefully the video will be released soon but basically, stamina will have a greater effect on how quickly a player will fatigue and fatigue will have a greater effect on a players acceleration and sprint speed (among other things).

I'm not saying that these changes will fix everyones complaints but it has certanly made a difference.

Thanks,

Fight the good fight Gary.

I actually think we should wait a bit before we consine FIFA11 to the "doomed" file. He seems vehement about this pressuring issue. I know, I know, it's in the vids but it's only in those 2 shite vids with barca. It's not really as prevelent in the others.

PES 1-6 has proven time and time again that a deep realistic sports game can sell millions too.

You see mate, when it comes to sports games, i would say that MOST people interested in that type of sport want to play a game as real as it can be not dumbed down arcade pap. This is why PES 1-6 has sold MILLIONS, probably A LOT more than fifa because the majority actualy do want a realistic footy game, not a pick up and play casual affair.

thats just my thought anyway as im sure fifa 01-07 diddnt sell millions. and u wanna know why? because it was arcade pick up and play bullshit.

Konami basically gifted the crown back to EA with this piss poor PES07-10 implementations.

Fifa has outsold PES every year except one (PES 5 I think?). So my point was that even when PES was clearly the better simulation of football it was routinely outsold by Fifa. Make of that what you will but I think EA still cling to the fact that a more casual element always used to be drawn to their game and hence they want to keep those people on board.

Once I found WE I always got that rather than PES, I wonder how many WE's sold world wide and was that included?...

On the FIFA side, the ball, like PES seems to have very little movement on the glass like surface of the pitches...

That's copied straight from the thing he sent to HandofBeadle/Romagnoli right?

The thing is, frankly, why couldn't we see this?

But with NBA Live they have really got closer to 2K sports and many people last year said 2K sports need to fix up as Live was closing in.

I hate to counter this with a question but, how many vids have we seen thusfar? 4? Maybe 5? The best quality of them is a game where it's human vs human (barca v madrid) with Barca taking off ProPassing while Real Madrid played with ProPassing on.

Watch that vid again.

YouTube - FIFA 11 Gameplay - First GamesCom PS3/Xbox360 Footage [HD] * NEW *

Real Madrid struggle to pop the ball around with barca banging the ball to feet and into the path of their players with ease. Also factor that the Real Madrid player wasn't that good and you can see why the vid is as it is.

Now look at the other vids where it's human vs cpu.

eg.

YouTube - New FIFA 11 Gamescom gameplay Video

The game is flowing with plenty of passing oppertunities and time on the ball.

IMO everyone overreacted and just continued the anger into the folowing vids. I'm not going to keep explaining this so I'll leave it. And as long as EA have acknowledged the specific issues in the game (Gary_P) and tried to adress it then that's all we can hope for.

It's not perfect but no game is. I really want to check the game out for myself. The players thusfar haven't even shown us shielding or even attempted to try to normal dribble with iniesta . The one time we see it with messi (from the first vid) the manerisms and animations look spot on.

Anyways, i'm done for the evening. I'm shocked we only got those 4/5 vids today across the entire net. And in one of them the camera guy was f*cking walking around like he needed a piss or something. PES sites reported much more thoroughly on PES2011. Steady cam please. The full demo. From intro to finish. No dicking with ProPassing options. Play the game with the new features in mind. JESUS. Is it that hard? They call them press?

Me too. I expected a plethora of footage, but also I thought there'd some news as well.

I'm really dying to hear more details about CM. Was I wrong to think EA would be announcing more stuff and elaborating on what we already know?

Didn't expect masses to be honest, and non of the Vid's so far have been worth judging anything off on the speed and playability side, as I posted earlier there is near no interaction with the ball on the pitch, it's like glass and I have yet to see any real power in shots...

I really think you guys are spoiled.

FIFA has come a long way, converted A LOT of people from PES, and now is getting all this bashing because it's good enough to be asked to be PERFECT. Well, not even PES6 was perfect.

Old-gen PES, since PES3, was just changing and tweaking little things until it peaked @ PES6. Really, there wasn't ANYTHING that changed the game in a way that you could say it was mind blowing. That's not "dropping the ball", like I've read (concerning FIFA11), that's knowing you're on top, you're doing great and you don't have to take risky and stupid moves just for the sake of it.

This game is leagues ahead of its competition and yet it's seems like you guys think it's piss poor.

Back in FIFA08, fans wanted responsiveness, but now we've got great responsiveness that makes for an AWESOME GAMING experience (remember PES6?), people are moaning about it.

Come on. Be reasonable.

Congrats for the EA team for another great game. I'm putting my money that it's probably the best soccer game ever.

These people here are more interested in a game that replicates and simulates football, not some shallow Call of Duty like exaggeration! What we see is a shallow game with the errors back in which ere said to have been eradicated. No, not everyone thinks FIFA is awesome! Also have you realized FIFA is only better than the other game in animations department, and not even more realistic. It's only better by technology!

Poor post man i'm sorry! They have a right to be angry!

Well, after the second vid - to me it just looks way too silky smooth on some of those dribbling moves.

There is literally no stopping the ball, finding a gap. For those who play/watch real football - you see plenty of stopping the ball, and finding an outlet - that's how it works. You don't make the pitch smaller, you make the aggression of the defense smarter. In those videos, the defense on both sides are over extending.

It's a shame, but then again it is fairly early - however let people judge, that is the nature of the business - and from there it's just a matter of whether or not EA listen or not. I'm still excited for the final product, but if this is what it looks like, I'll be keeping my receipt.

Why the hell did ronny leave man utd? Berba, Ronny and Rooney would have dominated Europe for years.

Don't remind me. I came to grips with Ronnie leaving, but I saw this recent compilation of a friendly against Standard Liege and couldn't help but get a little nostalgic.

Let's see what Bebe can do...:P

I'll be keeping my receipt.

Matt: I've been reading comments like that and I don't get it. Do people honestly think they'll buy PES2011 and get the perfect sim to replace FIFA? The Grass isn't always greener. I should know. When Fifa 07 came out I got it with PEs2007. When Fifa08 came out I got it with PES2008. When Fifa09 came out I stopped buying PES.

I'm glad they've ceased sucking but EA has consistantly been improving their game this gen. Last years MM was MAROONED in bugs, granted but this year sounds better than World Cup and Fifa10 with longevity thrown into the mix with PP & P+.

We've had 4 f*cking vids. 2 with PP off. Time to think and breath. I heard FSB will be getting up loads of vids over Gamescom so we'll get to see some decent players from Guilford playtests, Emirates etc playing. We should have a better idea of the game with those vids. ie Not a vid of non-PP Barca's goals chopped hap-hazardly into a highlights reel, or drunk cameramen staring at hot girls.

ok bed time for reals now (was listening to the excellent WENB poddy. check it out!)

Murk: I know. Bebe looks no-nonesense. I bet he's good. Fergie is well tight so i don't think he'd spend all that on a certain dud.

He should get Gourcuff, Sneijder or Van der Vaart (missed out on Ozil) though. I've always thought those guys would slot right in to Old Trafford.

edit 56: A coment from Gary_P that may have been missed:

Q:
Gary is another part of the speed debate down to the screws being tightened from the early builds some of us have played. So through fine tuning the behind the scenes maths if you like things seem more fluid due to the codes natural progression?

Just a thought myself and a few others have discussed.

Gary_P:
Its a possibility that some Locomotion glitches have been resolved that could have caused something but I don't think it would be that significant. Also, I was checking the code after HOB* PM'd me the other week and we have actually slowerd the pass speed by a further 3% since you guys played...

*HandofBeadle/our very own romag.

So the game is blatantly not faster.

Great post. I just looked at the video again, and yes, Barcelona does has pro-passing off and Real has it on and you can clearly see the difference, especially with Messi making a perfect cross with his right foot. I'm a bit more positive/excited about the game. I agree though, we need more footage!

I'd be over the moon if such a thing happened. And management must've seen something in Özil that they didn't like because £11m is a steal for all the hype he was getting. No way we didn't have the funds to grab him.

Here's hoping Bordeaux's terrible start to the season continues and Gourcuff decides to leave.

Messi's right foot
is fine, it's good enough! Its the stupid, ignorant English media playing on his 'left footedness' when they were sucking Cristiano's cock and calling him better and all that shit!

don't you guys feel that the players look like their skating instead of running in fifa? look at the last part of that video. david villa's foot is not even totally on the ground, it's like he's david blaine. lol. i seriously wanted to consider getting fifa this year after the poor last 3 years of pes. but seriously, how to even consider fifa? lol.

Certainly an issue but not sure it should be a gamebreaker - both games have their faults after all.

As someone else has posted, the first franchise to make the pitch interactive will get mad props.

Why the hell did ronny leave man utd? Berba, Ronny and Rooney would have dominated Europe for years.

Anyways, it does look a lot like that turn doesn't it?

It should've been Ronnie, Rooney and Tevez. Now that front three was the shiet.

Miss them.....

It's just the EA Brand really. When people say sports games people automatically think EA sports. Konami also never sells PES at full price here. Goes to show what its' presence here is.
