Fifa 11 Xbox 360/PS3

Of all the words used so far in previous posts, "deflated" I think best describes my reaction.

I'm having trouble seeing any of the "big" improvements we were all expecting, or at least hoping, EA to make.

Yeah, it's hard to judge going only off low-quality vids, but it's hard not to feel very disappointed, sorry, I mean deflated.

No, though if they were hidden that might improve things. The hidden forums are forums which can only be accessed by the 'Gamechangers' group on the forum. How you get into such a group? Something to do with birthmarks and cultish sacrifice.

How about everyone make a thread on the official forums about the speed of the game? Just spam the whole thing with threads. They'll listen then!

Just saw some of the 1st video. Don't have time to fully analyze it so I'll just list some things I like.

Pro's
dribble animation (Messi) at the 42 sec mark. I think Marcelo has the same one though.
new cross animation (Messi)at 46/47 sec mark
left, right, left, right, left feint at the 1:10 min mark. Not sure if this is Kaka' or Ronaldo. Hopefully, the latter as I have never seen Kaka' pull this off.
messi shot animation on breakway

I am not impressed AT ALL. WTF EA speeding the game up for a second year in a row? Jesus Christ same shit that happened last year. This is ridiculous.

I also love how in the first vid when Pique is down injured they show David Villa's name on the screen. Fucking Laughable. I feel like Anelka right now.

I analysed a bit the Screenshots :

;) :D

So EA sort out their game, overtake the rival historically superior football game, only to rest on their laurels and decide to make fuck all improvement just because they think the game will sell regardless.

Fuck 'em, I hope they get utterly raped in reviews and PES comes out on top.

Agree,
The game looks like a mix of FIFA10 and WC 2010.

cannot see A BIG DIFFERENCE:CONFUSE:

Even if further vids come and show better gameplay, you nailed it. They've rested on their laurels. Sure there may be tiny details everywhere that they've touched upon but ultimately the major issues remain. I wish they stop add f*cking features to the game and POLISH the ones they have.

Seriously. The pressuring was a vital game defining issue and they have copped-out big time. As someone said before me, it's deflating to see David Villa closing down your centrebacks all game without a hint of wear and tear. In real life he'd need to back off for a break. In FIFA he could chase the entire backline into and error. WHAT? I mean do they even watch footy? Sh*t like that is IMPOSSIBLE. With proper fatigue added, you could actually open up space by passing around and switching play.

I didn't try to get anything about the tiny videos we got a few weeks ago, but with these it is enough to get me slightly worried.

Everyone's mentioned speed so I don't even need to go into that problem, but the two biggest problems I saw were: 1) Constant perfectly aimed 180 passes- this MUST MUST MUST go. Romagnoli, please make them fix this... pleeeeease.
2) The right footed PERFECT cross from Messi. Ok of course it could happen. But the first right foot pass we see from him in a video is perfect, probably not just random chance. If they are really serious about Personality + they MUST sort this out. You can't have players crossing with their weaker foot with perfect accuracy every time. Ugh.

If anyone creates a speed protest thread on the EA forums, link to it. I think all of us will at least attempt to create a stir

Maybe it's too complicated for them......

That's assuming it's still all f*&ked up as the videos now make it look.

Think about it, what do they need to do to get pressure right? It's not a simple solution to just make the fatigue model harsher because that would just make every AI player knackered after 60 min in every game.

So only a fatigue model isn't enough, you then have to look at play patterens and the total lack of them. They would need to build an AI that is smart enough to react dynamically to the match actions. Know when to pressure, when to back off, which parts of the pitch and even opposition players need to be pressured. So if they take a lead they can sit back and defend more, go behind they would have to attack more and leave more gaps, playing different styles would mean they would have to adjust in real time to continue to be able to offer a realistic/suitable match.

To not have constant pressure means they would have to program the AI to know when they can back off, when they need to attack, when they need to drop back and protect a lead. But they don't, even when putting the formations and custom tactics to extremes all it does is slightly adjust the play. I created all kinds of tactics for 10 and did it for my own team in the WC match but even if yuo set up a team to play like Inter v Barca with everything set to ultra defense they still all move the same way with a "counter attack" making their back line push up to the HW line! All it does is slight tweaks on the same play model.

So how can they make a "balanced" game without having to incorporate high level AI?.....just make the teams play very similar, have a simple "always pressure" AI model and you can slightly tweak it in custom tactics. Because all custom tactics does is effect individual players (less pressure, agression, etc) but doesn't really effect the actual teamplay.

So could it just be that they haven't got the AI to a level where they can do a proper match based on football and they have to go down this route?

I wasn't too worried about lack of info or gameplay videos to begin with, I thought it must mean they're hard at work and are perfecting the balance until it's fit for eyes.

Clearly that wasn't the case, more likely they couldn't be arsed or they had actually nothing new to show off.

Personality+ looks a complete farce now, really glad I spent all that time editing players attributes as a reviewer thinking they'd have effect. They've reverted to the EA of old with 'Off the ball' and 'First touch' gimmicks in their earlier horrible games, buzzwords that had no impact on how the game played.

I really hated PES 08, 09 and 10 but I'm definitely more optmistic about PES 11 than FIFA 11 now. It'll be far from perfect, some animations are still quite cringeworthy and I'm not too convinced about dribbling. But at least you can actually see passes going array, varying first touches and a general balance to the game in the BETA vids.

/RAAAAAAAAGE

Also guys you should check whether ProPassing is on in the vids by looking for the marker that shows up on the pass bar. In one vid (the long one with many vids cut into one on gamersyde) the barca guy does not have it on and that's why messi can pass and cross like that. EA is STUPID for having PP as something you can toggle in a tradeshow where it is one of the VERY FEW THINGS they've added to the game this year.

/even more raaaage lol

but that vid aboce is quite nice

wow the pace of that vid has restored some faith actually. there's a glimmer of hope guys!

Admittedly, that vid above does look heaps better, but Adam has said that has been quickened up since Guildford and i have no reason to doubt him so why would EA do that when so many ppl there stated that the speed was perfect. It just doesnt make sense.

Rom, these hidden forums, i guess its stuff you cant really post elsewhere and I wouldnt ask you too but can you say what the general feeling is on there with regards to whats coming out of Gamescom? cheers fella.

ok guys, i think we've jumped the gun. this vid is good too.

http://www.videogamer.com/videos/fifa_11_gamescom_gameplay_footage.html?type=hi

i think thought that the game is slower against the CPU. it looks much better when playing against the cpu the vids earlier were 1v1 with one player on PP and the other with barca with PP switched off.

I promise i'll give you guys definitive impressions when i play it next week.
