FIFA 10

Is nobody else noticing that when playing the CPU on Legendary, you get NO time on the ball at all?

I'm playing as Las Palmas and the teams in this league seem to have proper tactics but every game I've played whenever I have the ball, I always have the CPU sprinting at me with at least one player, occasionally two.

Also noticing the CPU has this uncanny skill of managing to find so much space for it's players when it has the ball and I can only seem to get the ball back after they've had their shot, whereas when I get the ball the space is extremely limited (and that's if I've managed to hold off their sprinting players enough to get close to creating a chance).

This pressure issue is pissing me right off and I considering just jacking in FIFA because of it to be honest. If EA fixed it, then great. But they wont and I can't be arsed not being able to have more than a second on the ball before a defender is on my back.

Edit: Changed the level to Pro and it's a LOT better with regards to pressure and the CPU sprinting at you, you get a lot more time on the ball. Of course this is balanced by the CPU not shooting as much as it should on Pro.

I gave up on legendary. I keep reading how great it is but I would give up 3 goals in 10 minutes in most matches I was playing. On World Class it's a little better and the AI keeps doing skill moves to beat me. It feels completely scripted in the higher levels...

I know the bottom line is sales but given the whats happened do you think Peter Moore and others within EA are going to be asking the Fifa guys why and how this happened?

I can't understand why there is a suggestion that EA are limited in patch size. I remember having to wait a fair time to play Motorstorm: Pacific Rift after it came up with a huge patch. Can't remember exactly how big it was but i think it was over 500mb!

So i don't buy into the idea that they are constrained in some way with what they fix by some arbitrary patch size.

"Sniff.. Sniff".. Yep.. it's bull shit... ;)

90+ on metacritic, record sales, Peter Moore will be delighted with "what's happened", the only way events will turn against EA would be on future sales UT for Fifa10 (if there is one), the World Cup game (which I absolutely will not be buying) and sales of Fifa11.

I can't believe he's survived the feedback !

Anyone can survive feedback when it's simply ignored.

I called bullshit on it last week, first they said they couldn't fix more cos they were limited by patch size, now they're saying it's because of "technical limitations"......

Nobody will be fired over at EA Canada. There are already built in excuses in that they said MM was a 3 year process moving forward and this was year 1. Sales are massive and most people who buy the game don't care about the things mentioned.

As also mentioned before, most people care about boots and accurate kits as far as this game goes. The one thing that truly irks me to no end though is the fact that as a video game, there is very little control in the biggest mode of all for weather. Just give us the option of choosing the weather, it can't be that hard unless there is just no more room on the disc for it.

Sadly that is true. The percentage of owners who post on forums like this and EA forums complaining is very small.

Would love to see Marcel gave bullet point answers on the features promised not being implemented in this years game. I really dont get the need to of said all those things. It's not like those features promised were deal breakers.

If MK came on the forums and said, "Sorry everyone, I jumped the gun and screwed up. The promises I made were not possible in the final build" I would be happy with that. Just come out and say it and promise to deliver on FIFA 11. However, EA doesn't need the extra flack that having MK give bullet answers to questions will bring. It's just weird to me that when I was playing this game on PS2 YEARS AGO now, the MM seemed better. Am I the only one?

Also, his mid week rainy night games comment actually wasn't a lie or misrepresentation. It's an actual fact that all mid week games are rainy and at night... ;)

EDIT: Has anyone thought about how the economy has effected the game companies? Is it at all possible that EA Canada didn't have a full team to work on this game? ie: Testers? I work in IT staffing/headhunting and staff for EA here locally (not FIFA) and it's been very quiet this past year. I would bet that testers have been let go...

I just find it hard to imagine a powerhouse like EA wouldnt be able to hire the required testers.

How are European games this year? Are they played at night?

Not sure about European games - it's obviously possible that many will not be at night since not all stadia have the night setting.

i don't know if this is right on your part. i mean, long term injuries are RARE... marcel clearly quoted that in this thread. but, you can still get them. the problem in 09 whas that they never occured. the email did get sent this year.

Maybe it's something I have to see with my own eyes, but as far as I'm concerned they do not exist, I base this on 500+ matches cumulatively played between myself and 4 close friends who I trust implicitly, we all get 1 week injuries only, never anything more.

Yes I've seen the occasional person post on here that they got a long term injury when playing the match in Fifa10, but I don't believe them to be honest, same as I didn't believe those people who posted on here that their goalkeepers got sent off in Fifa08/Fifa09..........

Posted here cos the EA forums are fucked again and my dinner's ready!

Placebo (and others obviously) - when playing a Tournament -> League -> England -> Premier League - I had Gerrard pick up a 3 week injury (no simming it goes without saying).

I'd imagine EA are thinking we're making it up cause it's in the code but they're not applying the real world use to it 9 typical of a software house really to not be able to recreate a problem ;-p

I know the bottom line is sales but given the whats happened do you think Peter Moore and others within EA are going to be asking the Fifa guys why and how this happened?

it's happening for two reasons:

#1 so many copies have been sold thus far they prolly think that the vast majority of the playerbase is perfectly fine with the game the way it is at the moment (which is most likely true, unfortunately); complaining does next to nothing, stop buying the game instead and they'll end up getting the memo in a way or another (I did in fact purchase it as well since my friends were speaking so highly about it so I'm gulty as much as the next guy here).

The point is that as long as they can half-ass it (while still selling truckload of copies on release) they won't put any additional effort into the game, it just doesn't make sense from a business standpoint.

Why would you spend money to rely on services such as Stats Stadium and OPTA to get the data for your players when you can just enslave people who're either fans or desperate to get into the industry (neither of which are even remotely qualified to do the job) to get the shit done (for free) instead?

Why bothering with beta testing and debugging when you can just release a game literally full of glitches instead, fix it weeks/months later and still sell like crazy?

...and so forth.

Think about it, the only reason why the franchise shifted toward "quality" a few years back was the dive the sales took due to Konami owning the place at the time.

As far as quality goes they aren't getting any real competition since the jump on the next-gen systems so nothing will ever push them to improve the game radically and fix whatever hasn't been working until the sales numbers start to drop (unless the competition steps up the game publishing a game that turns out to be superior in any field, by a long shot, something I don't see Konami doing anytime soon though).

If the game keeps selling so much despite its flaws we're going to get just small improvements here and there along with updated rosters and a new superstar player on the cover year in, year out, Madden docet.

#2 The World Cup is months away so they prolly had to release a rushed out game to start the development on the "1.5" version which obviously will be marketed as a full-blown sequel (and I'd bet my car it's still going to sell millions of copies, regardless).

Hi there, talking about the Fifa world cup game, what are the differences between the two games? I will be buying fifa 10 but reading all the flaws in MM and the others makes me wonder that maybe in the world cup game can be fixed, but here is where my question shows up, is just the same game with all the same game modes just different cover or what????

Something which has annoyed me is. FIFA 09 was a buggy game and a lot of people said "well they've changed a lot, next years should be a polished game" I can understand EA wanting to add lots each year but I think their forgetting that the game needs to be polished.

You guys don't even know. EA has us by the balls. All the cool stuff we want for Fifa10 will likely be in the World Cup game.

Better AI & tatics
Manger on the sideline.
More animations linking the main ones together.
More player faces.
Faster Menues.
Cup celebrations, intros, fanfare.

I bet they even have subs on the bench visible.

EA is being totally out of order imo. All of what will likely constitute World Cup 2010 was totally possible for Fifa10.

Absolutely agree. Thats just stupid tactics by EA.

should I post the edge magazine PES 2010 review.

Is that allowed as I have typed it up as have no scanner.

Any more semi/manual players out there on 360? Already had some great games against people who don't sprint pressure you for fucking 90 minutes.

http://bit.ly/3wTUQl #NBALive10 gets 60 bugs fixed in its new update, #Fifa10 gets 20, anyone else see something wrong with that picture????

NBA Live 10 fixes:

The first patch for NBA Live 10 is out now! Select read more to read all about the patch.

BUG FIXES:
- Smooth out some of the hitchiness in the gameplay by tuning blend times for passes as well as some various fixes for blend pops across the board.
- Fixed sliding and warping during standing rebounds
- Addressed issue where defenders would sometimes watch the ball fall off the rim. Increase the allowable distance for a teammate to come help.
- Player Lock fixed. AI teammates will now make decisions on their own when user is player locked offball.
- Put the ball handler into protect dribble if the onball defender attempts to crowd him. Previously, the ball handler would not recognize the defender and just expose the ball.
- “Rocket dunks” fixed. Fixed a bug that was causing dunks to speed up by 30% and added code to have dunks retain the shooter’s on-ground velocity, preserving his momentum after takeoff. Also applies to layups.
- Various post play fixes, including the case where two guys would stand next to each other while one of them was posting up.
- Addressed a potential exploit where it would be too easy to pass to cutters for dunks. As part of this fix, we now allow ball collisions on passes when passing into the paint.
- AI Stagnation fixes: Ball handler would sometimes not properly pass to receivers in a play. Also, we allow the ball handler to “improvise” if we detect he’s been idling for too long.
- Fixed an issue where sometimes an offball cut animation wouldn’t properly settle into the correct spot.
- Restricted the post up and under move to within 12′ of the basket. No more ridiculous up and under heaves from deep.
- Fixed an issue where offball post players would sometimes quickly go in and out of post battles, significantly cutting down on jitter.
- Fix for big men waiting too long to outlet the ball after rebounding
- Fix for fidgety boxouts. They should kick in more reliably now.
- Prevent user passes to teammates who will be out of bounds or to teammates in the backcourt after they’ve crossed the timeline.
- Improve goaltending calls
- Fixed ball physics for blocked layups/dunks. There was a mirroring issue that was causing the ball to shoot off in the complete opposite direction of its intended path.
- Fixes for animation oscillation on defense (ie. jittery movement)
- Fixed a bug that would cause certain offball movement animations to not mirror properly
- Series of small fixes to prevent balls from hitting the floor during rebounds.
- Fix for shooting fouls not properly getting called on collision layups. This will yield more realistic free throw attempts for both the user and CPU.
- Put in a fix to mitigate the excessive turnovers inside the paint, specifically after pulling down an offensive rebound. Gives users a little more time to pass out or attempt a shot when they get in congested areas in the paint.
- Smoother ball handler post up entries. Sometimes guys would “pop” into place.
- Fixed issue where players would sometimes “freeze” in an offball post battle before receiving a pass.
- Fixed bug where the “check assignment indicator” would draw on one of your own teammates in LIVE RUN games.

GAMEPLAY ENHANCEMENTS:
- Auto-switch to PG on defense after a made basket
- Enabled rim stuffs. Now when you try to dunk in traffic, there’s a chance you’ll brick the dunk.
- Tune nets to make them a bit less stiff
- Added more variation to “get back” animations after made shots. Less “skipping” back.
- Disabled the canned scenario steal that happens when you rip the ball from a player who is sizing up. Instead, we allow actual collision with the ball if the defender performs a steal while a ball handler is making a dribble move. Makes for a much more read and react, twitch game on defense.
- Improved Freestyle pass animation selection to prevent guys from bursting into a sprint while passing on the move.
- Backdown button is back. Enabled right thumbstick click to toggle between face up and backdown postures.
- Disabled the turnaround jumpshot that would play if the shooter is facing away from the hoop when outside of 18 feet. So instead of a turnaround three, players will pivot and shoot a regular jumpshot.
- Minor tuning to shot and layup percentages.
- Improved responsiveness and AI’s usage of offball cuts.
- Stop the rebounder from running up court too early after securing a rebound
- Improvements to reception logic, specifically square up catches
- Improve player reaction to loose ball situations
- Left analog passing improvements: Update analog angle metric to consider the receiver’s destination so you can lead the receiver with the pass
- Improved the logic of when to play a standing reception vs. a moving reception based on the receiver’s momentum and position on the court.
- Added the ability to “lockdown” perimeter ball handlers (by pressing into them) and force them into a protect dribble state.
- Ability to shoot “runners” on demand by driving toward the basket, neutralizing the left analog stick and hitting the Shot Button. Works inside of 18 feet.
- Improvements to user onball defense. Made it easier to stay in front of the ball without “slipping off” when you move your left stick toward the ball handler.
- Anti-cheese code. Prevent users from being able to take offball control of players and run them under the hoop for the cheap pass and dunk.
- Inbound flow improvements. Allow the inbounder to move to multiple (closer) locations along the baseline after picking up the ball.
- User control over shot contest vs. block. Tap of the Block button will always yield a contest animation. Regular press will always jump to block.
- Several improvements for end of game AI logic. When the AI is ahead, they’ll do a better job at recognizing time and score and use more clock. If they’re trailing, they’ll accelerate the offense.
- Improve AI logic for pump fake biting. AI defenders will be smarter about defending pumpfakes according to difficulty level. Previously, the higher the level, the more often they’d bite. Also, if user is pumpfaking multiple times in succession, the AI will stay down.

Other fixes:
- Resolved an issue where the DNA Streak would sometimes show an incorrect value
- Resolved several issues which caused Instant Replay to run out of memory
- Corrected an issue where PPG points were incorrectly calculated in adidas Live Run
- Resolved an issue where users with many friends who have played NBA LIVE 10 may experience crashes during log in or post game.
- Resolved an issue with lobby rooms where a user may crash after soaking in the room.
- Replay montages should now scale to be full screen
- Corrected an issue where users would sometimes see their target under teammates instead of their check in adidas Live Run
- Corrected an issue where there was a missing option to not show again on the “Dynamic DNA Not Updated” screen
- Resolved an issue where the game would hang if multiple users left a full Online Team Play session and the session filled up again
- Corrected an issue on the Dynamic Season Team Record screen where an incorrect team would appear
- Resolved an issue where the game would rarely hang after exiting the first game of a Dynasty season if the user entered Rookie Scouting during the off-season
- Gameplay exploit fix. 3 pt step back completion rate.

Which games sells more? Fifa10, which games puts more revenue into the EA coffers? Fifa10, which game should get the most fixes? NBA apparently........

Any more semi/manual players out there on 360? Already had some great games against people who don't sprint pressure you for fucking 90 minutes.
Is the US your current location? We had a great game but it would be better to play with you next time on full manual. :))

Well, after playing for several weeks, the game is convincing me. But there are several things that ruin the gameplay:

1 .- little variation in the style of play of the teams. You play against Barca and for example against Xerez and course notes that a team is better and costs you more but they both play developed, pressing, easy passes etc..

2 - When the game reaches the 85th minute, often strikes me that if I lose the CPU goes into the corner to waste time and I find it almost impossible to remove the ball. They have an enormous precision.

3 .- I'm still watching the game too fast even on slow play. I think the problem comes not so much the game itself, if not the opportunity for the whole game by pressing the sprint (both I and the CPU) and the players will recover soon. If fatigue was more noticed, the sprint would be used as in reality only in times necessary. The other day I played with two teams with the players split and was much more realistic.

4 .- The rain and snow I get tired. It's good to have this and graphically it´s great. But I think playing with the ball physics in rain is bored. Ideally, these climates leave two or three times in a season and take a shower and not so aggressive that does not vary much ball´s physics. Play with snow-white ball is impossible.

5 .- The fields still seem to me too small. (Some incredibly small, I think it was The Reducto)

And I wanted to ask you some questions. Haber si me podeis ayudar:

How to put a really defensive tactic? I'm sick of going 1-0 lead, but ultra-defensive to see how my players attack much in a stationary ball and defense get too far ahead always. It is like putting my defense on the edge of the area.

How is it headed in? I got some good goal, but not to nod if you have to take power just when the ball reaches the head or having already caught before energy.

I´ve not seen a goalkeeper´s red card. Is there??

And finally, I'd love if you can post crate set pieces. I lack creativity.

I play with Atletico de Madrid. I have 3 long injuries. 11, and 13 weeks for Cleber Santana and Raul Garcia. If happend other long injury, i´ll take a photograph.

Thank you very much

i would sack the entire marketing department.

Imagine this on TV. That if you sell a product. (Taken from Fifasoccerblog).

Sorry. I´m from Spain. My english is very low

I played PES just now at a mates. I actually enjoyed it.

It reminds me a lot of PES5 in it's passing and movement. It's definitely got it's head stuck in the past and can only be described as arcade until they take gravity and the laws of physics into consideration.

I'll be picking up PES for Master League.

As for Fifa10, enough has been said on it that I need not say any more. The hype precedes it. It plays fantastically when you're not being hounded which is evidenced when you play a game online against a decent player. EA have made the opposition's strength "PRESSURE IN NUMBERS". You're tripped and buffed and hounded the moment you enter the midfield.

EA seem to pride themselves on their AI and have built a great custom tactics system... but have forgotten to f*cking use it. Seriously. The fact that the game is so stellar online proves this. In some MM matches I check the tactics of the opposition and I can actually play around them with your own. These are few and far between though. EA NEED TO SORT THIS. More variation in opposition play will make their game the 9/10 it deserves to be. At the moment I personally believe it should have gotten 8's. It's great to a point, and then it's been half-arsed (hence the numerous patches). This is obviously due to deadlines, but I'd rather they came out and said this than try to pull the wool over our eyes with excuses and double talk.

EA should seriously take a leaf out of konami's book (they've taken more than a few leaves as it is ) and work hard on making their AI unique and competitive while remaining fun and challenging. It would also be nice to feel even more of a difference between star players.

In short:

PES2010 :- Stuck in the past. Needs a new engine badly. Play as any team other than the big ones and you'll see the same old clay faces from PES2006 so I dunno what all the hype is about. Plays a fun game though if I'm honest, and is much more accessible for a college dorm party than the rather sim-like FIFa.

FIFA10: Wake up. EA have been sleeping at the wheel. Chris Davies raised many points and issues about the game ages ago and they're only patching them in now, in bunches of 6? Not good enough. The Statistical analysis going on in Fifa10 is nuts. Check out any stat screen and you have more info than you even need. Put all that into the on-pitch action now EA and you have something really, really special. It's very close though, and next year could be incredible. It all depends on EA though. Heavy sits the crown. I just hope for EA to cut out the promises and just deliver.

In one season Konami have delivered a manger mode with trophy celebrations, end of season awards, Europa league and Champions League integration with PROPER rules. EA is BIGGER than Konami and has more money accessible than Konami. No more excuses.

Good find Placebo. It's shocking!
Speaking of other games and their patches, SI are doing a release-day patch for FM 2010 that has only been decided upon because of one key issue - and it's a data issue, something that everyone could have fixed themselves with the editor. CLICK HERE

This kind of dedication is what I want to see from EA at some point in the near future but I can't see it happening...
