FIFA 10

As quoted from the EA thread above. Cheers Placebo :

FYI, the Canada trip was more about game design than anything else. Also, meeting face-to-face with the biggest, most knowledgable fans of the series is invaluable in many ways for the development team. No-one was there to 'test' anything - it was about saying, 'ok, here's what we're doing, what do you think of the idea?'

And, having organised the thing, it was a magnificent success on those terms.

Secondly, there'll be more detail on the content of a game update coming soon.

As it stands we're talking hours, a day or two max.

Just to clarify, that's a timescale for publishing details of this game update, NOT a timescale for delivery of the update itself - a timescale we can't confirm precisely at this stage.

To head the likely responses to that off at the pass: We can't confirm the update release plans just yet because they're not fixed yet. Until they are, the only thing we can say is "soon". But then I know you all hate that. Suggestions for a better word on a postcard please.

Played a crazy 6hr sesh last night which had everything I hate about 10 and two or three good bits thrown in.

The ref's were so biased in some games towards the AI we went past annoyed to downright amazed, our players were pushed and shoved, hacked and at one point speared without so much as a second look.

Our players also seemed to have some sort of mass middle ear troubles even our CB's were pushed off the ball with ease to be sent stumbling around while the opposition 5'4 wisp of a forward would gaily stroll around holding 3 CB's at bay.

Every half chance saw our players stumble like a OAPs with their laces tied together while the AI would recover almost instantly; even if you did manage to tackle them and left them on the floor they would be back up and on you in a split second and as usual the fastest striker would be hunted down by the slowest player on the pitch even with a head start, or oddly be sucked into defenders as if they generated their own gravitational pull.

The atmosphere at some games was reminiscent of a morgue after closing, the shooting was dire and the sixth night game played in the horrible misty rain was enough to have you reaching for the off switch.
And still we stuck at it, but it's lacking in something, certainly with the lower league sides and that's to say nothing of the MM mess, I'm amazed people don't see any of the points above and to be honest a little jealous.
I'll stick at it and pray some bits will be sorted in the patch and wait until then to edit all the teams and custom tactics... :PIRATE:

Ive almost had enough of this fucking game, Im only enjoying Pro Club Championship now.

The game is unplayable in Be a Pro in world class, the AI for you team mates is a pisstake, they never tackle, which means you always concede, if you try to use secondary pressure then they just get pulled out of position and you concede, you own team mates act like retards when in possetion and they arse up basic passes or miss sitters,

Im sick of losing points for putting in decent crosses which nobody gets on the end of, losing points for position when the CPU has a goal kick,

On a funny note tho, we got a peno in clubs the other day and we changed kick taker, but for some reason the original kick taker was standing over the ball and the new kick taker took the peno between the other guys legs, it was hilarious, never seen anything like it.

anyway rant over

im actually finding online to be a joy at the moment. Clubs is playing fantastic , really smooth. But im still getting disconnected from psn every now and then. But im guessing they are still working on solving that

Are people scoring/conceding any deflected shots/headers, etc.?

That was supposedly one thing that was meant to be improved as well in this year's version so it happened more often like in real life.

p.s. Any cup matches in BAP mode now? I'm talking like domestic (FA Cup) or is that mode the exact same thing with no improvements whatsoever!?

Actually in the demo I conceded on a WICKED deflection in a match against my brother, Carvalho slid in against ribery on a shot, deflected off his leg on the way up, which created so much spin it dipped like crazy right over the keeper's head. One of the craziest goals i had ever seen in video game football :)

Until today I've been playing all my games offline, with friends, and it has been by far the best football game I've ever played. Unfortunately I today had my first online experience... and it was not pretty, everything I've been reading which I though was exaggerated came to pass.

It may be in part because of lag, I'm in the US and I was playing people in the UK (though I did this all last year with little to no lag...), but the first game I played, predictably, my opponent was Real Madrid (I tried to search by semi-controls, but it kept saying there weren't any opponents, anyone else have this problem?), and the whole game was constant pressing, literally holding press every single second of the game, auto passing... I only lost 1-0 but it was completely unenjoyable. Second game I played man-city, pressing the whole game, ended 1-1. I'm hoping that I'm able to find some good players, but if the semi filter doesn't work I'm not optimistic...

My biggest problem though, is the fact that you still can't set your man marking online, and now you can't even change your formation or custom team tactics before the match begins???? Am I missing something?? They've basically taken out any element of strategy in the online experience unless you set everything up beforehand (outside the match)... Please someone tell me if I missed something cause this is bumming me out :(

Still waiting for the game in the US... quick question to those who have it (i.e. all of you).

Do players in MM improve in their dribbling skill level? Can players learn more tricks as the get older/better at dribbling?

I never understood in FIFA 09 how players that became world class dribblers never learned any new skill moves... is this still the case, or can players evolve?

Thanks.

Yesterday evenin i won 2-0 with Genoa against Sienne.
First goal was a Crespo shot that was deflected by a defender in his own goal...i've been playing it for a couple of weeks and that's the first own goal...so that seems reasonably good for me.

About the score in Famitsu and the 90% (plus) scores...a game with broken modes like MM and others..does not deserve 90%. The gameplay is great, but they have been very sloppy this year...but reviewers never go in detail it seems...

Patch news

EA Sports has told Eurogamer that a large number of the problems reported with FIFA 10 on the official forums have been addressed or will be addressed by a new patch, which should be out this week.

"We have already created one patch based on gameplay feedback after the demo went live, and we are now creating another one that will go out this week (fingers crossed), in order to give our gamers the best possible experience," a spokesperson for EA Canada told Eurogamer overnight.

We asked whether issues with Game Face, Live Seasons, Club Mode and disconnections were connected, and whether there was any progress sorting them out.

On Game Face and Live Seasons, we were referred to EA's public posts on the subject, which include advice on Game Face usability and a workaround for people experiencing problems with Live Seasons 2.0.

For Club Mode, we were told that problems were "to do with stat-tracking and should be fixed as a result of server-side fixes and some updates in [the new patch] that is going out shortly".

Disconnections, meanwhile, are "a PS3-only issue - caused by us using PSN 'Rich Presence' - so if you had lots of friends all playing FIFA at the same time it overloaded PSN code. Fixed in Patch 2, and by reducing friends lists [in the meantime]."

Manager Mode has also been a bone of contention, with many users reporting bugs, such as the AI flogging your players without asking. Whoops. EA told Eurogamer it's "addressing a number of these issues in the next update due any day soon. Notably AI selling your players without your permission, form, goalie assists, budgets and improvements to stability."

FIFA 10's general gameplay, however, will not be altered. "We're not intending to change any gameplay," he were told. "Our Metacritic reflects that part of the game more than any and we're very happy with the quality of the on the pitch action - and the overwhelming positive feedback from our fans."

But we weren't done there. Did you know some of the kits are incorrect? Some gentlemen on the EA forums noticed.

"Every year we do our best to be 100 per cent accurate," EA replied. "That said, we are dependent on our partners at leagues and clubs providing us with the reference. It's usual that we get these for the vast majority of our clubs, but for some we do not - and they will have errors or omissions.

"Indeed, sometimes the clubs change their minds [when we've already started] building the kits! That said - all our kits etc. are approved by the manufacturers, clubs and leagues - but with a game the size of FIFA there will always be a small number of disappointed kit aficionados."

Finally, we asked what the team actually did when it was faced with problems around a game launch. Surely everyone's off on the beach by then?

Apparently not. "It's the same every year - we don't have a moment to bask in the glory of a great game," came the response. "We've had the entire team mobilised to look into nearly every real and imaginary issue that's been reported - and this has been a 24/7 effort.

"We've improved some things that we thought needed to be improved, and will evaluate other reports as they come in. As I say - we're continuing to monitor, and our second update is proof that we've not 'fired and forgotten' about the game.

"We want to make sure people are not just going to enjoy FIFA for a few days, but continue to enjoy it for the next year at least."

So they're not touching gameplay ... even though they showed an interest in people complaining the CPU pressed too much.

Maybe changing the CPU aggression settings isn't classed as gameplay? Hopefully they'll at least change the settings for all the teams outside of the Premier League at least.

To be honest, Dags, I think the majority of people think the gameplay is spot on. If the general consensus is it's working fine, they ain't gonna touch it, whereas the bugs in Manager Mode and obviously online and GameFace were causing massive problems, so needed rectified.

I'm still enjoying the gameplay side of things.

Well at least they have fixed the Disconnect issues with the PS3 version. i think that should be their priority first to make the game play identical to the 360 ie can play a game ONLINE without getting DC lol

So they are not touching the keepers?

Off to trade this shit in then.

I'm sure there are quite a few issues they're sorting out that haven't been mentioned in that relatively small news update from EA. Just because it wasn't highlighted doens't mean it won't be rectified or tweaked.

This is the problem with impatience. You'll trade it in, find out it was fixed (although probably not), then moan that it wasn't mentioned in the first place. I'm sure it will then be demanded that EA pay the re-purchasing price on your behalf.

Perhaps taking it to extremes, but Jesus some people need to chill out. I'm sure the majority of people paid £24.99 or thereabouts for the game. It is in the process of being fixed. True, it shouldn't need to be fixed, but even the big games need tweaking and amendments. Fallout 3 was absolutely huge, and has constantly required updates and even now the game is riddled with bugs - some small and unnoticeable, some that will crash the game. Companies are creating these games for us to enjoy. They're trying to fix these problems and faults for our benefit. All people seem to be doing nowadays is moaning about things. It was £25, granted, but there's another life out there just through the door on the house. Go and have a drink or socialise with friends. Fifa 2010 isn't the ultimate force which rules your life. It's a computer game.

I won't even go into the detail that folk are complaining about the lighting effects on the steering wheel on Forza 3, or how they could have made the Jokers face a bit paler on Batman.

The games industry has evolved massively over the past few years, but there will always be bugs and niggles in the final product. We should be relieved that we now have the ability to see these problems being fixed online rather than noticing them in a £44.99 cartridge for the SNES, which certainly would be worth moaning about.

I agree completely that the bugs in this Fifa game are a joke, and it shouldn't have been released with them in tow - at least not to this level. Infact, hell, f*ck it, I'm trading it in, too. I'm going to get a bike, instead.
