FIFA 10 360/PS3 Demo Feedback + Videos

I love the little deflections - i've scored a few very realistic looking deflected goals where the keeper dived the wrong way, most of them with Lampard (who says FIFA doesn't have signature moves/individuality?! :D).

The ball never seems to cut through anything and I havn't noticed the ball being "kicked" when the player didn't actually touch it (apart from that bug posted by Dusse), the animations and physics/collisions seem perfectly co-ordinated and sometimes I just want to watch the replay of simple things again just because deflections look so real...

I wish I could play the demo now, 360 got the E74 :(.

Hopefully :).
I'm not that confident though myself consdering it has go to to Germany, get fixed and then sent back when the game is less than 2 weeks away... How long does it usually take to get it back in other people's experience?

It's better for it to go now than on release day I suppose! Would have been fuming if on the day the game arrived it packed up...

My console went back to Germany in March when it red-ringed for the 2nd time. It was actually returned quicker than the first time when it went to Hampshire!

I think it was about 7 or 8 days in all.

This is not good. I guess a lot of people have seen my previous movie where the player (free kick), run the "wrong way" and hit the ball despite the fact that he was like five meters from the ball. It happened again, almost exactly the same situation. I wonder if it always does..

Everyone: if you get a free kick in this position, try to the a low, hard shot under the wall to try to score and see if it happens to you too.

(Not that it ruins the gameplay, but still doesn't look good)

Looks ok to me?

Blimey! Reminds me of the invisible players bug in FIFA09, when all the players of one team would become invisible (sometimes both teams, if I remember correctly), but you could still attempt to move them around and play a match. Made for some surreal on-line games.

Seems EA still have occassional serious problems with the game. Did I recently read somewhere that Rutter had said they had reached the point where FIFA10 had no bugs?

Dave Rutter qualified that, saying that they'd got rid of all the bugs on their original list. A game with zero bigs is nigh on impossible. The online invisiplayers was just cos they hadn't loaded yet, no? I'd always pass it back to my centre backs and play it around using the radar until everyone emerged from the ether.

If that fk bug remains in the full game I'll eat my face.

yeah, agreed with winston, the level of detail is incredible

This is a perfect example of laying the engine behind the game and building up...

Something that Konami need to take a page from - rather than just polishing the old turd again and again

I've noticed that whenever I play against Barca in the demo they always sub Henry for Maxwell, is this a bug?

Are you losing when it happens?

It happens regardless of whether I'm winning, losing or the game is level.

They don't change their formation either, he just slots in upfront on the left.

Just about to upload a bunch of randoms stuff from the demo that I noticed. One thing I wish i could have gotten (but didn't have my cam nearby) was a few kick-ups by Joe Cole in the pre-match mode. While doing the kick-ups I did the new trick that you can do while keeping the ball up and then i did one big kick up and volleyed it outside the foot into the goal from about 30+ yards. Dipped just over the keeper into the top left. Looked stunning.

I like how they've increased the amount of ways you can score. I'd still like some more shooting animations though (as well as other things) but it still looks good.

Just going to update this post with the vids. :BYE:

and the goal celebration cutscenes to be in game like PES so that Bojan and Iniesta don't appear the same size as Ibrahimovic.

LOL i'm glad i'm not the only one who noticed. That cracked me up, that Messi and Ibra are almost 1 foot in height apart, and here they are nearly the same height.

I lost my soul with pes6. That may be the reason why I like Fifa more than PES from the 08 version...

I think that Seabass is a genius. He hired 200 extra programmers this year to keep the good soul programming in PES. Of course, because all of the resources were put into SOUL DEVELOPMENT, there are other areas of the game that didn't receive the necessary attention, such as: scripted passing and shooting, AI, collision detection, reaction times, animation engine as a whole, goalkeepers, ball deflections and baywatch running.

But hey, who would want all that right when you can spend one more year developing soul improvements and collecting the cash anyways?

Hum, they tell me sales are decresing eeach year. Maybe we're not putting enough henchmen into the SOUL DEPARTMEN lab! Come on boys, take 1 more people out of every other department and put them into the SOUL on for pes 2011!

that's the funniest post drekkard has ever made. lol

oh, and for the record PES sales are on the rise. So, you know, PES fans will smoke whatever KONAMI grows out of its garden.

Well, I'll explain why does it happen... In real life, currently Barcelona has only 2 players in the bench that could play left wing: Maxwell and Pedro. They wanted to sign Ribery, but the market went wild and it was impssible, so a t the end there is not a great left wing there to compete with Henry.

Maxwell is well known as a left back, but at the start of his career he was actually a left midfielder/winger, so in the game he's tagged the winger position also.

Now, when the game goes on and players get tired, the first player to be tired of Barcelona usually will be Henry, due to his age and the fact he plays as a winger and do a lot of running up and down.

The game engine identifies him as a tired player and does the sub. What happens there is that the game looks into the bench for the best player for the wing, and Maxwell has an overall rating of 80 while Pedro has a lower rating. The logic makes the game put Maxwell before putting Pedro there.

It's strange because in reality Pedro would play always before putting Maxwell upfront, or even Iniesta would go to the wing and another midfielder could come in, but of course the substitution logic in the game is quite primitive (I didn't expect much more): when someone is tired, looks the best overall rated player in the bench that could play that position, regardless if it's his first pick position or not.

That's why it happens. Still to see in a full 10 minutes length match what does the AI in terms of formation.

Gameklip, that first vid showing the ball physics is good ... apart from the tackling foot going through Cole's foot ;)

Foot goes through the ball on the Ribery vid as well :(

Seriously?

It may be a bit hyper-real but it still has some attachment to reality. You can get moderate power and plenty of swerve in a sidefooted shot IRL, depending on the contact point on the ball..

It would have made more sense if Essien was running at the ball more but there you go; simulation games approximate real life, rather than achieve it. It's hardly a 40 yard toe poke or a ball magically moved without contact. There hasn't been a single football game to get every single action-reaction perfect. If you were raising an issue with something remotely substantial or worthy of mention then there wouldn't be a problem, but it seems terribly petty to pick holes in what is comfortably the best animation system seen in a football game.

Give over feeling hurt like someone has personally attacked you because they didn't like the curl of the ball in a game.
The curve and pace of the ball from that weak ass side foot looks unreal. That's not opinion, that's a fact. Which in a game that is suposed to be 'simulation' looks out of place and very old school full on arcade Fifa. The kind where you used to double tap shoot to do an overhead kick and score 50% of the attempts.

Pointing out that you don't like something in this game whatever that may be... has nothing to do with PES unless they were saying 'PES does it better' which no one did. So god knows why you went off on one about that toe poke animation. It's the equivalent response of..

Them: 'Your mum is fat.
You: 'Well your mum is fatter so that means my mum is actually thin!'

No it doesn't - they're both fat and both examples of ball physics are inaccurate. What Essien should be doing there is letting the ball drop onto the laces of his boot and hitting it on the volley to get some power into the ball after it had just lost it all in that deflection. Instead the game decides a side foot shot animation is the best and yet somehow their physics engine works out that that kind of shot generates as much power as a laces driven shot. Fifa does get 99% of the things right but defending that animation is a joke, Give over.
