FIFA 10 360/PS3 Demo Feedback + Videos

Couple of "If only" moments recently:

This one has a nice new contextual pass which I hadn't seen in FIFA 09. Though they are contextual (unlike all the skills) it is always nice to see.

http://www.eafootballworld.com/en_GB/video/9455685

and here Marseille take the knife to Juventus with a great run from deep, with a little bit of curve to maximise the space.

All on manual/WC. You can get some really nice passing movements going on in this.

it usually come out of luck.

The move at exactly 30 seconds happens if you are just running fast and turn at too great an angle, where the player makes a certain animation.

The trick at 0:32 is basically just an elastico/reverse elastico performed when sprinting. The animation then changes from an elastico to a bodyfeint.

I don't know about anyone else but whenever I slide in to a tackle and win the ball, it either deflects straight to the opposition or the opposing player gets up very quickly and retreives it, quite frustrating when you have made a clean tackle.

Try to tackle in front of the ball so the ball hits the side of the player's legs. If you go straight into the ball it will tend to be pushed out quite a long way.

Takes a bit of practice, because it's very much user-directed in comparison to the other game where it's quite automated.

I find that when I tackle the player doesn't get up in time to do anything with it - is that just me?

EDIT: Just read Rodelero's post, perhaps it's just me...

So we are saying that we need to time the tackle from the side for the ball to stand a chance of rebounding to me!!

Tackles are often won by the player making them, but I do not see this at the moment, it should be totally random and smells a bit of scripting to favour the CPU.

I'll give it a go and see how I get on but if I get any red cards then I'm coming back to you:P

I usually think of the EA Sports on the scoreboard as their version of the Sky Sports logo or ESPN, just branding for the TV production.

That being said, I'd prefer proper adboards, but that goes without saying really.

Edit: They had proper adboards in the Champions League game, certainly added to the overall atmosphere of the game.

I'd LOVE them in Fifa.

I like Fifa 10 more than PES, but Fifa does lack a "soul." Fifa feels very corporate, with EA branding all over the place. All EA sports games have this problem, not just Fifa.

Konami is branded everywhere in PES games. Im surprised they dont have a konami logo inside a konami logo! Im surprised you havent noticed. Besides, corporations and football go hand in hand (i.e: Barclays Premier league, AIG, Bwin, etc.) Weird you say this. I guess theres not much else "wrong" about fifa that "soul" is being brought up. Whatever that still means lol!:BOP:

I just tried the demo to see if their logo was every where, and all I could see it on was the ad boards.

You know, PES 2010 really isn't bad. I've hated PES so much in recent years, but this years is quite good. Sure, Fifa is better, but I think I like both.

If PES had Fifa's animation and manual controls, it'd be awesome.

About the "soul" definition, it's easier than people makes it: simply it's the connection and addiction to the game. For that you need to master the game and need the game to be well done in terms of diversity and controls.

I don't agree. (and oh this has nothing to do with PES-FIFA discussions)
I can't define "soul" but it can also be about some sort of sterility that comes with perfect graphics.
I will give an example.
NBA Street was a game i really loved. It was over the top arcadish but to me it was just perfect. Now i bought the game for the PS3 with inch perfect but soulless, "cold" and i didn't like it, in fact i only played it 2 or 3 times and i can asuure that i knew how to play it...i perfectly knew all the controls.

You can't really define it. Whatever it is that makes a game special will differ from person to person.

I scored this cracker last night. Essien volley with his left foot that curled into the far corner. Unfortunately i wasnt connected to EA Servers so couldnt upload it so i captured the footage on my mobile, hence the poor quality. Has to be my best goal as far.

YouTube - Essien volley

How did he manage to get that much pace and curl/spin on the ball from a side foot volley?

We should just call it "chemistry" then ;)

That is just wrong. How on earth can a ball struck with the side foot like that have such pace and curl?

It's not so much that it couldn't happen in terms of the ball moving like that off the foot - but fundamentally volleying like that looks impossible.

It missing something but I can't put the finger on it. LMAO.
Come on we all know what you really want to say.

Maybe it's these points..

*Soulless
*Individuality
*Magic
*That feeling
*Lack of control

LOL. What ever that means. ;)

If your posting a joke, make sure nobody has posted it first moron!!

Already done yesterday and the book got closed. Move along now!

Played some more of it and i still can't think off anything that is gripping me?

To me, maybe it is my frustration at not being able to play the game how it's at it's best and just play on assisted/semi everything while holding sprint most of the game, trying to make it similar to PES...Passing from dot to dot upfield and never backwards.

Seriously?

It may be a bit hyper-real but it still has some attachment to reality. You can get moderate power and plenty of swerve in a sidefooted shot IRL, depending on the contact point on the ball..

It would have made more sense if Essien was running at the ball more but there you go; simulation games approximate real life, rather than achieve it. It's hardly a 40 yard toe poke or a ball magically moved without contact. There hasn't been a single football game to get every single action-reaction perfect. If you were raising an issue with something remotely substantial or worthy of mention then there wouldn't be a problem, but it seems terribly petty to pick holes in what is comfortably the best animation system seen in a football game.

Beautiful, really shows what people mean when they talk about the ball physics now. I love that there's no invisible walls involved.

I don't like that weird animation rewind at 0:21 though, that annoys me, but I'm a perfectionist. ;)
