FIFA 10 360/PS3 Demo Feedback + Videos

What about Semi? Is it worth it for me to learn manual?

On a side note, for manual crossing I've tried doing that crossing combination that worked in FIFA 09- if you made a quarter circle turn and aimed your cross, it would curl the ball perfectly. Wouldn't work for early crosses though.

I play with semi shooting, passing and crossing. manual through ball and lobbed pass. I have tried fully manual and while I seem to do alright with the passing I cant get to grips with the shooting and crossing. I'm awful with those to features set to manual.

This demo has flaws but hey I'm quite happy with what Rutter and his team are doing. You can see what they want the game to be. Not sure what game of football seabass is trying to replicate.

That is a real good question actually...i wonder what the fishface has to say about that.

right, i've been reading both demo threads and now having played both demos i'm going to give my OPINION on them, remember OPINION!!

first of all let me remind you that i've played the PES series since the first PES and only went to fifa last year, because i was disgusted with the efforts from konami.

i'm writing this in here, because i think people in here are slightly more open minded and i won't get some nob coming back saying my OPINIONS are wrong.

i'm not going into the computer AI at all

i'll start with FIFA, obviously this was my game of choice last year so i had high hopes for the successor, to be honest i am really happy with the progression made with the FIFA series in gameplay terms (as thats all we can test in the demo), the freedom and dynamic movement on the pitch are by far the best replication of football i've seen in a game, the dribbling, passing, crossing/long balls and shooting are greatly improved on last year and the new animations to go with them add to the realistic feel nicely. the ball physics are vastly improved, which is the big reason why the dribbling, passing, crossing/long balls and shooting feel better. obviously the graphics have been polished, the little touches like the freekick taker selection, less cutscenes etc are all improved and nice editions, but the gameplay is the most important feature in any game and i'm happy so far.

the problems with FIFA that i've found so far (which have been said before), are the goalkeepers, player switching, heading, formation (gap between midfield and defence), etc. the goalkeepers will be fixed, heading isn't really a problem but it requires more skill and thats not a bad thing, i always play a CDM with minimal attacking so that sorts that out, so the only thing that bothers me is the player switching and that only pisses me off once in a while.

people are whinging about player individuality, using their wrong foot too effectively, no soul(bullshit) and so on. to be fair player individuality is very hard for the 1000's of players in the game and the top players have been looked at, players definitely use their favoured foot more in dribbling and shooting (try a finesse shot with the players weaker foot) and this no soul bullshit is just people clutching at straws.

there are other things wrong with the demo, like chesting the ball instead of heading it and so on, but i'll pass judgement till the final game comes out.

right, where do i start with PES, oh PES, once my life long partner that has been bent over and raped by konami. i honestly can't see how this can be released with the gameplay of an arcade machine, really this is the best they could do? (rhetorical), the animations and ball physics are awful to say the least, actually just about everything about FIFA that is right is wrong in PES. the only good things about PES are the graphics are an improvement and the tactis are good, but in no way do these compensate for the complete lack of enjoyable gameplay. i won't keep going on because i'll get labelled a fanboy from the people who love calling the kettle black.

i'm really dissapointed, cause i want konami to make a great football game again, but it just hasn't happened i'm afraid and they really need to sort themselves out, because i think more and more people are turning to FIFA.

well thats my short evaluation of the two demos and i know i've missed certain things out, but i can't keep rambling on. remember these are my OPINIONS, you can disagree with them, which is fair enough, but in no way are they wrong!

So, i downloaded both game demos and i have to say Fifa10 has grabbed me a lot more, initially. PES is always a bit odd on the Xbox controller for me, as i've been playing it on PS/PS2 since the 90s.

Anyway, so i feel the difference between F09 and F10 at the moment, is that they have made it less easy to tackle, which is good and of and course the pace is faster. Does anyone know if the final game on 360 will be slower at all?

For the first time i feel like some players (the top ones) like Drogba and so on, actually feel different to other players. Drogba feels powerful and strong and Lampard is very good on the ball. The Chicago players feel a bit less skillful and you can't quite play the same way with them.

However, i still can't feel individual differences between the lesser players, like i can in PES. They still don't feel like they have their own character and attributes which determine how they play and distinguish themselves under my guidance.

I squezzed a cheeky game in this morning Marseille v Bayern Munich on Advanced (the demo setting) and grabbed a nice 1-0 win with a great goal from Kone.

Here's a funny clip from another game i played yesterday. I was Chicago. Check how Barca's Yaya Toure deals with my injured player  :Y1

Keep seeing something new every day...

Played a long ball to Messi (slighty in front of him) and the ball bounced high, cos he's a short arse when i pressed the 'knock ahead' on the right stick instead of chest controlling it (like in 09) he knocked the ball ahead with his head which meant he did even have to break stride.

It screwed the defender up, i did a couple of step overs and shot wide, but it looked amazing...

johnny: I know man. I've been finding stuff out with every play. Normally when I'm stuck and my Fifa09 gameplay fails and I have to chip the ball or cross it (on manual). I've seen that headed knockdown btw. I went through on goal with it one time. I must have missed cause I didn't up it to youtube. Aha.

These are the best 3 things I've done in the demo (might have seen already):

YouTube - Fifa 10 Demo - Messi Dribble and Shot
This wasn't even a goal but i love how the ball moves and reacts to absolutely everything.

YouTube - Fifa 10 Demo - Lampard SCREAMER and some slick passing (Tele Cam)
The passing in this was immense (semi) and the shot was just pot luck (semi). Notice that Drogba continues his run and if i'd missed he'd be moaning.

YouTube - Fifa 10 Demo - Drogba Goal
Another example of the physics in the game. This vid is like PES fanboy kryptonite. They hate it . I've had personal abuse via email cause of it! The physics are just ridiculous.

I have more but these are my favourite.

I'm a bit stuck with the PES vs FIFA situation this year. Played both demos and after the disaster that they call PES2010, I'm almost on the verge of jumping over to FIFA for the first time. Only problem is little things in FIFA that just dont seem right like the shooting (which doesnt come close to PES) thats stopping me from buying it.
PES is like an ex girlfriend who everyone knows was a bitch but is still too hard to get over.

Give yourself a month to learn the skills and shooting and you wont regret it. Fifa this year is worth putting time into. That's without mentioning how good 10 v 10 online is, or manager mode...

Actually you support United and Fifa needs another United fan like a hole in the head, so dont bother... its a rubbish game, stay with evo

:-)

The great thing about Fifa this year is there seems like there are no gaps in any animations at all

The passing, control, the first touches, heading, shooting and skills all flow together and they all make contact with the ball or the player in a realistic way even with the ball spinning accordingly. The ball may ricochet somewhere off any part of his body from a shot, pass or tackle, you may fall over after he runs into you or he slides and you hit the deck or maybe he will try and ride the tackle. The game never breaks its stride of looking real meaning even the most standard of goals make you want to see them again

You only have to look at the videos in here to see how good it all really is

The holding off defenders/clawing back attackers in this game is just fantastic, going back to 2 players just running along side each other and sticking a toe out would be really hard to get used to.

I really cant understand how even the most loyal PES fans can say that this is not better than PES.

They either just play Fifa on Assisted. Where it is not great.

Or they try Manual, but get too frustrated and don't give it time.

They are the only reasons why they will think PES is better.

I have said it and I will say it again, There is no person that has played Manual Fifa that could honestly go back to playing PES the way it is.
