right, i've been reading both demo threads and now having played both demos i'm going to give my OPINION on them, remember OPINION!!
first of all let me remind you that i've played the PES series since the first PES and only went to fifa last year, because i was disgusted with the efforts from konami.
i'm writing this in here, because i think people in here are slightly more open minded and i won't get some nob coming back saying my OPINIONS are wrong.
i'm not going into the computer AI at all
i'll start with FIFA, obviously this was my game of choice last year so i had high hopes for the successor, to be honest i am really happy with the progression made with the FIFA series in gameplay terms (as thats all we can test in the demo), the freedom and dynamic movement on the pitch are by far the best replication of football i've seen in a game, the dribbling, passing, crossing/long balls and shooting are greatly improved on last year and the new animations to go with them add to the realistic feel nicely. the ball physics are vastly improved, which is the big reason why the dribbling, passing, crossing/long balls and shooting feel better. obviously the graphics have been polished, the little touches like the freekick taker selection, less cutscenes etc are all improved and nice editions, but the gameplay is the most important feature in any game and i'm happy so far.
the problems with FIFA that i've found so far (which have been said before), are the goalkeepers, player switching, heading, formation (gap between midfield and defence), etc. the goalkeepers will be fixed, heading isn't really a problem but it requires more skill and thats not a bad thing, i always play a CDM with minimal attacking so that sorts that out, so the only thing that bothers me is the player switching and that only pisses me off once in a while.
people are whinging about player individuality, using their wrong foot too effectively, no soul(bullshit) and so on. to be fair player individuality is very hard for the 1000's of players in the game and the top players have been looked at, players definitely use their favoured foot more in dribbling and shooting (try a finesse shot with the players weaker foot) and this no soul bullshit is just people clutching at straws.
there are other things wrong with the demo, like chesting the ball instead of heading it and so on, but i'll pass judgement till the final game comes out.
right, where do i start with PES, oh PES, once my life long partner that has been bent over and raped by konami. i honestly can't see how this can be released with the gameplay of an arcade machine, really this is the best they could do? (rhetorical), the animations and ball physics are awful to say the least, actually just about everything about FIFA that is right is wrong in PES. the only good things about PES are the graphics are an improvement and the tactis are good, but in no way do these compensate for the complete lack of enjoyable gameplay. i won't keep going on because i'll get labelled a fanboy from the people who love calling the kettle black.
i'm really dissapointed, cause i want konami to make a great football game again, but it just hasn't happened i'm afraid and they really need to sort themselves out, because i think more and more people are turning to FIFA.
well thats my short evaluation of the two demos and i know i've missed certain things out, but i can't keep rambling on. remember these are my OPINIONS, you can disagree with them, which is fair enough, but in no way are they wrong!
