FIFA 10 360/PS3 Demo Feedback + Videos

Got the demo yesterday and played a few matches. Too early for me to say anything good or bad.

One thing that happened though was all my 4 matches (using and playing against different teams) finished 0-0! I was unable to score a single goal and conceded none as well. Playing on World class I assume because at the beginning I answered the question "Football games are my passion".

It's worth checking out the video from the latest build in the Fifa 10 thread, and just seeing how that version compares to what you're experiencing (good and bad) in the current demo.

It certainly looks better.

Just a point about nets (the only time as I'm not really fussed)

People who moan about the nets, watch the SKY HD advert with United scoring that fantastic goal last season at the Emirates, and look at the nets there. Worse than Fifa IMO!!

The type of goal I scored in the video below has probably been shown off before but in the spirit of videosharing, here's an example of how FIFA10 lets you keep your shots low and hard by applying just a notch in the powerbar :P :

YouTube - FIFA 10 demo - Baumjohann free kick under wall

My friends and I (we played co-op) were somewhat surprised when I pulled this off today...so naturally we tried to be cheeky again in another match but the opposing team was smart enough not to jump lol. And to think that it wasn't too long ago when my friends and I were talking about this goal :BOP:

Chris, in the demo, there is no option to go to the pause menu and make a substitution at half-time.

When you guys were playing that newer build at the Emirates, did it have the pause menu option at half-time?

I managed to take a grounded corner today! Triple tap, holding the last one for the power bar. Still haven't managed a driven corner though. Has anyone else managed or even tried these?

Hmmm...just wondering because hopefully they'll rectify that in the retail version, as not having the option to make subs at half-time or even check your player's fatigue levels would be a bit inconvenient.

I would have thought it'd be there. I mean, 09 had it!

Also, I really hope commentary is worked on next year. No way is Barcelona vs Marseille a derby match, I jst had the 'he only had a yard to find' piece after tapping into an empty net.

Aaarrgghhhh!

I want to love this game - I can see its so beautiful and trying to be the best football game ever, but another 5 games tonight (on Pro), still no goals scored - barely a shot.

10 games now, shots I can count on 1 hand and no goals :(

Gonna have to drop to Semi-Pro, but I find that too easy.

Such a frustrating game. I think it just doesnt suit my (poor!) skill level and I'll never be happy with Semi-Pro or Pro.

Any tips here guys? I'm really trying to play un-PES like. Not really sprinting, trying to pass it around etc.

Whats the point of the skill dribble? Do you just hold both buttons and flick the left stick (or right stick)? If its right stick, then thats gonna be impossible for me.

Christ, I'm moaning more than Davies! ;)

You really don't have to worry about the skill dribble much. Earlier I focused too much on trying to beat my man when I could just continue to pass the ball until I found an opening. Unless it's some sort of counter attack or I need space in the box to shot I'll do the LT+RT cut inside and shoot.

If that still doesn't work go on amateur to play the feel for it and experiment with the skill moves, the skilled dribbling, etc. That way you can get a feel for what works where.

Right, I'll weigh in with some of my thoughts after having a few lil sessions on the demo. I like it, it's fixed the main gripes I had with 09 (mainly response issues and over lengthy/laborious animations) and the inclusion of the 360 degrees is nice. The pace of the game could possibly be slowed slightly but it aint too bad if you actually slow it down yourself and not head for the wings or killer balls from back to front quickly.

Shooting seems better now too, the LT and shoot results (alternate control scheme) in quite a nice drive that lacks the floatiness that was found in 09 most of the time with long shots. Long balls seem alright to me, they do float a lil crossfield sometimes but I think the perspective doesn't help there as you get the same feeling watching a game on the tv sometimes, it's the vertical depth on a 2D presentation causing the effect mainly methinks. :)

And now, to the not so good...

Aerial battles. Lifeless. I've stopped counting the amount of times I've had a corner/free kick high up the pitch and the opposition keeper has cought it, just to launch it long where one of my CB's is standing waiting right under it uncontested and even a near full power bar results in a non jumped, limp header that travels maybe 10 yards back up the pitch. In fact sometimes they even chest the ball for some reason, whats that about?! Contested headers are even worse, how many times can both players go for the ball and miss it with their heads, resulting in it bouncing off their upper bodies somewhere and bobbling away somewhere (unscripted though, which is quite nice :P).

The AI annoy me, there I said it. It's not the fact that the players lack individuality, I actually think thats there now for once, in more than just a pace sense thankfully, but in the fact I dont find the AI teams playing any differently against me. Chicago ping the ball around and work space the same way Chelsea/Barca do, and it just feels to me the way every other Fifa game has, in that once you get over the initial newness and novelty, every game is gonna feel the same. :(

The other thing the game still lacks is what other people have mentioned (and been shot down for), intensity. I still just feel detached from it. I enjoy playing it, it looks well, it sounds well, but it just doesn't grasp you and enthrall you within it. It's always been the same with Fifa so this isn't something new I'm feeling but scoring just doesn't give you the satisfaction it should (no matter what type of goal you score), it just feels a little soulless and detached. To simplify it down, it feels like I'm watching a match, not playing in it.

Overall I am actually quite happy with the Demo (I know, doesn't sound it) and will for sure be getting the game, I'll more than likely be playing mostly Clubs and Be A Pro, but with the new response times and ability to actually turn a player with quick second/third touch rather than needing a perfect initial one, I may actually find myself playing the regular leagues/cups/MM a bit more this year.

Looking forward to Oct 2nd.

I hope players don't constantly strike the ball as cleanly as they currently do, Otherwise we'll get people belting in 40 yarders every match

You might want to try zooming the camera in. You'l be closer up on the action and your broadcast experience might also be reduced. Just a tip.
