people should just play FM if there soo interested in manager mode type games. nothing beats that and the above poster is right. gameplay is a big part of manager mode and you lot should be grateful that they concentrated on that first. say if PES 09 had the same gameplay has PES08 but had an amazing in depth manager mode that pisses over the fifa one, your telling me guys(placebo etc) that you would buy PES09 instead?

It's absolutely ridiculous if they make a really cool or even a worthwhile online exclusive for the ps3. It will really piss me off and makes no damn sense.

I just want to play my first League match in the rain - and possibly at night too! lovely. I'm a little miffed about the lack of manager mode updates but all the other gameplay modes i feel will compensate for it. I really cant wait now. Has snow been confirmed yet and can you change your stadium this time?.

Release LT/R2 to go in for tackle at the right moment

Could this mean you actually have to time the standing tackles to get the ball and not hold down the button like in 08 and Euro? My god if it's anything like PES 5 defending I will cry of joy.

jonney can you not just accept that people like to play manager mode in fifa? We know you like to play online and all other modes could be stripped out, we get it.

Placebo is obviously disappointed because there are what seems to be easy to fix bugs in MM that they overlooked. It's not much more to it really.

Personally I prefer to play MM than online too.

Online can be fun but, like Bobby says, people learn exploits and in the end you're not even playing football but battling exploits and/or cheats.

Not that the AI doesn't cheat either though :LOL:

I'm not too fussed on MM not being improved, as long as the gameplay is fixed up. In fact, as long as the reaction times are fixed, then I'll be very happy. So MM will be much better just for the fact that the gameplay is better.

I like to play offline multiplayer, but rest assure my most anticipated mode in football videogaming history is playing a Career cooperative or Competitive against / with my mates online. That, to me, is the final goal of this games. That implies a strong Manager Mode and a strong Gameplay. I understand they firstly focus in gameplay, though.

i accept that many love MM better then online play. im just wondering why they prefer MM over gameplay improvements thats all.

i always assumed that many people would rather have a fantastic gameplay in a sports game rather then game modes.

I don't think anyone wants MM over gameplay. Like I said:

Most people don't scream for a complete overhaul.

Like someone else said - I'm just looking for clarification that teams will be play differently. Trips to Wigan and Arsenal should be very different experiences, and in 08, they're not. What i'm hoping to hear from someone who has seen 09 in action is that teams play differently. That would really make manager mode good enough for me. I get so tired of seeing some 3rd division centre back pwning my world class center forwards exactly the same way as Maldini...just not worthwhile.

Net animations changed, any news on that?

In fifa 08, controlling players was so hard, to turn with the ball it took about 10 minutes and then you lost possession as the forward lost control of it, any news on that ?

Spot on. That's the other thing I should've mentioned. The teams playing with different styles sounds excellent and will really stand out.

I hope it has been improved.
The balance between the ballcarrier and the defenders was off.
WHen the ballcarrier turned quickly (for example using the Right stick to push the ball away in the opposite direction he was running), he would take a quite long time to stop himself, and begin moving in the oposite direction.
Meanwhile, the defender had a much easier time to stop and move after the ball than the attacker. The animation the attacker did when he turned with the ball took longer and was slower than the animations for the defender to turn. The kinetics were completely different, when infact both of them were doing the same move (the attacker had kicked the ball once in the opposite direction, but other than that it's the same thing.

Also defenders were able to react far too quickly (superhuman) to certain situations. For example I would be standing right infront of a defender with the ball. The defender waits a couple of seconds, then moves forward to charge me. I immediately press the right stick forwards in hopes to knock the ball past the side of the defender.
But then the defender would instantly spring a leg out and stop the ball, in the time it would take a real human to barely register what happened, much less react with his muscles.



Also, the LT + RT "move sideways" mode in FIFA08 was pretty useless. That should be replaced by a "move slow and dribble" mode similar to PES2008, where the player keeps the ball much closer to him and does much more graceful and quick movements with the ball.

There are no real dribbles involved, he just moves alot more elegantly and with a bit more "dribble style" when using that mode in PES2008.
You could sort of do that move in FIFA by doing a normal 45-degree turn and then mmediately using the right stick to kick the ball in the other direction but that would be far more unnatural and clumsy, and you'd almost always loose the ball. The player should be in control like in the PES2008 video.

The R2 dribble mode in PES2008 was one of the few things they did right. It was very responsive and elegant, and the kinetics with proper footplacement was quite spot on. They didn't have to cheat when doing sidesteps, like in for example PES5 where the player would always slide when doing sidesteps because of animations that didn't match the move itself.

Hopefully if a good team plays against a bad team and you have high press they should try to hit more longer balls up the pitch because of fear of losing the ball.

In 08 and Euro even crappy teams position themselves very good and pass out of any danger all the time. And often if they hit a long ball it's spot on target. They need to fix this by making them position more badly and not helping out eachother as good as top teams do. In my world a game shouldn't really be challenging if I'm Man U player against the worst team in div 3. It's not in real life and shouldn't be in the game. Sure they might play defensive as hell and I could have problem scoring, but they shouldn't be able to pass around with ease just because EA want the game to be challenging. Teams must feel different and if you want a challenge you'd play with less skilled teams or play against other top teams.

I can safely assume that PS3 exclusive mode is tied into HOME. When creating a match either normal 1v1 or BAP 10v10 you will meet with your team and opponents in an EA game space that will resemble a dressing room within HOME. From there you can discuss tactics and use an interactive 'whiteboard' to set up plays and formation and then launch directly into the game without any menus apart from settings.

A hundred Zimbabwe dollars $ that this turns out true.

Playing against an underdog in Fifa08 was poorly implemented, but manageable by playing a high tempo game and forcing play onto the opposition, playing against an underdog in Euro was an absolutely shockingly badly implemented experience and if it's like that in Fifa09 it's another nail in its coffin.

Im looking forward to this new collision system, if they get that right the game will look 10x more realistic

and if this "exclusive" thing is any good im going to be very pissed off

Well they said in numerous interviews that goalkeeper AI has been reworked and that they act more life like and organically.
