Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

-Jockey Press
Hold LT/R2 and A/X to maintain a few yards distance from the dribbler and contain.
Release LT/R2 to go in for tackle at the right moment

Could this mean you actually have to time the standing tackles to get the ball and not hold down the button like in 08 and Euro? My god if it's anything like PES 5 defending I will cry of joy.

Please let it be so

I'm not sure about this, i don't want FIFA to be come a button fest, they should keep it simple, I don't want to play street fighter with fifteen button combo's...

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

just get a ps3 if teh exclusive is a big feature. fifa aint the only game u will enjoy on the system:TU:

Exactly. I own all 3 and get the best out of all of them. Well I did...I sold my Wii and the 360 broke so I sold it as faulty on ebay. In reality the only console I have used in the last 6 months is the PS3 and since most my friends own it also it makes the online aspect more appealing. I am happy with my decision especially now since its really hit into stride. And if I ever want anything on another console I will simply buy them again. I doubt it though. :)

Exactly - I hope they don't overcomplicate things!

yea coopz wont be disapointed with a ps3 and half of us here in evo web have ps3's so its not like he will be playing againts random peeps online. im nnot trying to make this into a "buy a ps3" advertising thread but just trying to show coopz that its not a bad thing getting a ps3 if the feature that the ps3 version has is one that you would love to have.

in this day and age, a true gamer purchases all consoles

I think you need to give it a rest a bit Jonney.

Unless it is a completely different Game and that game on the PS3 is the greatest game of all time (Football wise). Then I might be tempted to buy a PS3 for one game.

But to just buy a PS3 because it has a better feature on Fifa?

Holding down the left trigger isn't really complicated. It seems that you can only hold down the X-button if you want to. If you do your player will try to get the ball as soon as he is close to the other player. But if you hold down the jostle button at the same time he wont attack but still keep close to the player and only attack the ball when you release the trigger. This sounds good to me. If you recall in 08 and Euro the AI player can just walk around with the ball, turning around and you can hardly do shit about it. If that situation would occur in 09 you might not be able to get the ball, but you would have a chance getting the player with your body/leg and stop him from prancing around. Just speculating.

Indeed dont want to see it going down that route. :))

This is definitely the right way to go and it is a great concept, because it will finally bring some definition into the close quarters play.
Before you just held A and RT (xbox controls) and sprinted after like a maniac. This would give you the possibility to time the tackle and, more importantly, decide exactly when to tackle, instead of holding A and hopeing the player will do anything at all.

AND, this might be awesome for human vs. human duels, since the defender needs to time the tackle to avoid selling himself, and the attacker can use various tricks into fooling the defender into tackling at the wrong time.

One of the best news I've heard for FIFA09 assuming it's true, it is very valuable if done right. Obviously they could eff it up just the same, but it has lots potential. I just hope that the player will really do a tackle animation aswell, such as stab with his foot or something. That way you can get more PES5 situations where you kick someone down or trip them with your leg if your not careful. That will make it more gratifying defending aswell, no more running and running until your player decides that he is close enough to the ball to take it with his leg.

Gotta agree with Trance_Allstar there, the more things we have control over the better, anyhow I always look forward to trying out new button combos for new moves when the latest pes/fifa comes out.

Me too. :)

Besides, we are already using LT and A to move slowly and then charge at the opponent, it's just been changed slightly. Not exactly a Mortal Kombat fatality button combo there. :D

He'll never score with that ball, it's flat.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

The keepers look pretty good, the dives look a lot more realistic.

Also shows a player swinging his hips warming up before the kick-off.

Nice touches.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Lol. I saw that image as well. Is it really flat or is it a graphical bug?

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

lol at the pic glitch in matrix me thinks.

Thanks for pics looking good though but shots are not really exciting but as said you can see stuff like keeper dives.

i will, like i said, not trying to to make this into a promotion about buying a ps3 mate. i highly doubt the feature is anything big mate so rest assured all you 360 fans dont have anything to worry about. i dont even know why the ps3 is even getting a exclsuive. usualy its teh 360 that gets more exclusive content then the ps3 ie gta4. weird still.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

The operationsports thread is worth reading, some good nuggets that aren't making their way into here, for example:

List of NEW Controls:

-Call for a teammate on Corners

-Call for Layoff man

-Shoot with layoff man

-Pass with layoff man to third player

-Wall jump

-Bullet Man (player on the end of the wall will charge the shooter)

-Jockey Press
Hold LT/R2 and A/X to maintain a few yards distance from the dribbler and contain.
Release LT/R2 to go in for tackle at the right moment

-Running Jockey (A faster version of the Jockey Press) this helps eliminate the cut backs!!!

-Custom Team Tactics on the D Pad.

So good to see corners/freekicks do have more options.

Apparently EA are going to "try" to do some kind of quickfix for the manager mode fatigue issues, hope that's a. true and b. happens, will make a difference.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Something seems way off in the below pic. Ok, what is the GK doing so far off his line?

Also, is this a training mode shot, or an actual game? If it is an actual game gone to PK's as the top left team names indicate, then where is the ref?

http://www.videogameszone.de/?menu=...d=216517,216518&image_id=866922&page=1&order=

I am positive this game will be awesome. All they need to fix in my view are the nets animations. They fix that, and I will be in heaven.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

It's interesting that they only played the Alpha and not even Beta. If the game is playing that well at Alpha, release version should be superb :DD

That pic? He's off his line because it's the arena and he moved out to close down the angles, like a good goalkeeper ;)

If you'd read some of the previews you'd know that the arena during loading then changes into the actual goalmouth of the match itself.....

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

I see they still have big problems modelling faces. It's not that big of a deal to me but they should hire more skilful people to do the faces and facial animations. It's obvious that they put alot of energy in the modelling, it being pretty high res and all, but they all look like freaks.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

the reason that there playing the alpha one is because the beta has the surprised hidden online feature
