Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread
Take it easy.
The Hype for this game is tremendous - and yes, at times it has looked quite promising. However, the latest videos have done very little for me in terms of raising MY hype. Dribbling looks clunky, visuals seem to have taken a step back from 08 (could be beta version), im hoping that the videos are set on the 'fast' speed, because it looks ridiculous - and in general, in terms of RAISING THE BAR FOR NEXT-GEN GAMING, I believe very little is being done. Look at the comments in this thread - people are saying it looks PES5-ish, which I completely agree about. It looks as though the traditional PES diagonal angle passing down the field gaming is back. The collision system looks incredible though and a proper innovation, the kind I expect to see. It seems for me that in search of recognition from those players who love the PES style, EA have made it too PES like.
IMO, the focus for the development team shouldnt be to replicate a great game from the 90's, but to make their own way forward with new, different dribbling and shooting systems. (Although some of you will argue their physics system has done this - and it has to some extent, it really has NOT revolutionised the genre - the movement, shooting and passing mechanics have been IDENTICAL since PES2.) Currently, this looks like the game we have always cried out for - PES standard and quality gameplay, with FIFA style visuals, authenticity and gaming options. Only those requests were in 1995.
As far as Im concerned, and I obviously have no authority on the topic, it starts at the top of the development team. At the end of the day, is their quest to sell games or innovate? Despite how many odd computer art gurus will insist it's the latter, the fact of the matter is that if the game doesnt sell, it wont be able to innovate. As long as this remains such a vast business, which I suspect to be forever now that video gaming has caught on big-time, this problem will never be solved.
Just my two cents.
Did someone at EA steal your girlfriend? Kill your sister? Or were you beaten as a child?
