FC Barcelona Thread

Agreed it wasn't a good game at all, Thing is most of the "Stars" Were either unfit(Ronaldo, Messi and Zlatan) or not performing(Henry and Kaka). Barcelona looked the better side though but not the invincibles of last season.

I''l never read a goal.com match rating report ever again. Marcelo was by far the worst player on the pitch that night. He deserved a rating of 3 at best.

We won the Clubs World Cup. 6 major titles in one season. Absolute record and something no one will never top. This is the best team in barcelona's history and possibly the best team ever (only Milan of the 90s and Cruyff's Ajax could really be compared in my oppinion).

So now it's time to celebrate and rejoice ourselves for having the best player of the planet in our team and most important, the best coach I've seen. Guardiola is smart, talented and respectable person, but also a humble coach who ask his stars to work hard and has build a fantasy team where all the players feel as one.

And all this with an always offensive football and lots of homegrown players that are the base of the team: Valdes, Puyol, Pique, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Pedro, Bojan, Jeffren... and more to come. Other clubs should definitely take note.

Congrats, Pep. And thank you for this the most wonderful year.

Technically you can't count this win as the same season as the others, so it's five in one season.

But still it's a brilliant achievement, and you are the best team I've ever seen, hugely successful but beautiful to watch with it.

I just hope you don't retain the Champions League, If we can't do it, No one can ;))

Well, that would really be a record. Winning the Champions 2 years in a row is bloody hard nowadays, almost impossible. You have to be very very good and very very lucky for to years.

I thing this year is between us, Chelsea, Man Utd and Madrid. Small details and luck, as always, can decide.

Haha... drekkard, if we were to dream like a virgin about sex... continue dreaming: what if we win it 2010 AND 2011? :)) We also get a patch for 5 trophies [not to mention we'd qualify anyways cause we'd have 3 in a row] AND we overcome Madrid at international titles :))

matherto, technically... it's debatable both ways. One could argue that a season has its "consequences" - winning trophies makes you play Supercups, thus Barca played this as an award for their 08-09 season, thus they're directly linked as cause and consequence.
If you wanna look at it your way you should also count the 2 supercups as part of the 09-10 season - which makes Barca only accountable for 3 in "a season". Cause officially that's how they're considered. That's also the reason Pedro got to score in 6 different competitions "in the same season" :)

The most neutral formulation would be "Barca made the most possible out of the 08-09 season".
Too bad we didn't beat Chelsea. They're the ONLY team to escape that. THAT is also a feat, albeit not cuantificable in statistics usually. I think Barca officially met 27 teams [30 if you count the latter - Shakhtar, Atlante, Estudiantes], 4 of them were played in a single match [those 3 + Manchester United] and only Chelsea escaped "the wrath". :P

Sorry but that team was built by frank rikard if im no mistaken, Not Pep

But at the end of the day Pep won stuff with them and Rijkaard didn't.

Also Pique, Busquets, Pedro, Jeffren, Ibra etc didn't play much (?) or at all under Rijkaard.

Rijkaard won the spanish title diddnt he?

edit: he even won the champions league

* UEFA Champions League
o 2005/06
* La Liga
o 2004/2005, 2005/06
* Supercopa de España
o 2005, 2006

Well yeah, but he basically built the team from scratch. Barca had not won anything since 1999 prior to Frank.
Yes, Pep's work and team are "created" by Rijkaard, and his extraordinary input thewre was getting rid of the "Troublemakers" [aka players who lacked motivation] to shake the changing rooms and impose himself as boss, and then channeling the players psychologically to achieve this feat.

It makes Guardiola not a brilliant tacticican, but a great coach. And in time he'll get the chance to assert himself as a great tactician as well. We certainly hope so!
Another year like this and Pep will be the one with most trophies won as coach :)) [Cruijff has 11]

Rijkaard did a tremendous good work, but left the team totally broken, last season finished 18 points far from the winner Real Madrid. Then it came Guardiola and sacked Ronaldinho and Deco (amongst others). He added Dani Alves (woh was signed by the board, not him, but he wanted him anyways) and put some homegrown players in (he asked for Pique, he put Busquets who was playing in third division, he has put pedro...).

As a tactician, he brought to perfection Rijkaard's system, adding a lot of pressure and playing most of the match with only 3 defenders. He put Iniesta and Xavi further on the pitch and asked the central defenders to start the creation task. All this should be recognized because changed completely the team, and the result is great. Now the main enemy is complacency. Let's hope Guardiola continues like that.

Yes thats better. i was getting the impression that Rijkaard did F all for you lot. As you can see, most of your players where brought when Rijkaard was in charge so he deserves some credit for help putting barcelona where they are today.

Pepe has took Rijkaard's system and improved it :WORSHIP: People say Pepe will replace Wenger one day :COOL:

No doubt Rijkaard lay the foundations for Pep's success.

Barca hadn't won anything since 1999 when Rijkaard joined.

And it was he who played a big part in nurturing Messi into the player he is today, as well as bringing the best out of Eto'o, Xavi and finding a place for Iniesta in that side.

Pep managed to fix the mistakes Rijkaard made with the team and win everything possible.

Fair enough. My bad.

Remember though, this started because you were questioning someone thanking the manager for a great season where that manager won every single competition he entered.
:CONFUSE::YAWN:
No i questioned why he thought pepe "built" the side you see now:YAWN:

Here is the post as you clearly could not see or read properly.

Yea exactly. To say Pep built the team you see today and saying Rijkaard won fuck all is questionable.

Like i said, 5 trophies in 5 seasons is very good. Pep has done a great job but Rijkaard deserves a bit of a mention as well.

Of course Rijkaard was a savior to us, and a big champion and most of all a great person. He started the trend on very humble coaches. He was never wrong with the press, he never disrespected no one and he was kind to everyone. Remember I go to the stadium and have seen all Rijkaard's matches. His mistake was precisely being that good person. At the end some players broke the rules and the team fell. Because of that Barcelona totally threw a league title they could have easily won and last year they did one of the worst seasons of the decade. And that's when Pep arrived and changed everything in 2 months taking as starting point the good things that still were left from Frank's era.

No barcelona fan can deny this at all, I think you have had some misunderstandings by the way!

To me, Frank ranks amongst the best coaches I've ever seen (not to mention him as a key player in the best Milan...). But Pep has taken that and has gone further. I'm glad we've had 2 of the best coaches of the 2000 decade.

I agree, drekkard. :)

Pep also took charge of some dietary decisions, i saw... i believe it was said to also be the reason Messi's stronger, not so fragile anymore. That AND the fact that he matured.

Still - whoever disrespects Rijkaard is a dolt. That man had nothing and won it all. In time, but he did [c'mon :P he only failed supercups]. Will never forget him and Paris.

We will always have Paris. Arsenal apparently had Toulouse...

You cant compare Pep and Rik... Pep have a complete different team and system than rik... Rik tactic was more upbeat and offensive, while pep tactic is a lot more conservative...

on the other hand...Bojan is not progressing very well, He didnt look good when coming off the bench at the cwc...hes touch need refining, cause its absolutly outrageous, everyone said he needed to improve his touch but I didnt know it was that bad...EPL switch is what he need ahah =p

Yes, Bojan has some terrible problems touching the ball. He's very good at finishing, but that seems to be its only resource as he clearly can't pass, can't touch first time very well, he's crap at trapping and he almost never heads right. I wish they sell him and buy another striker.

I would like a lot Suarez from Ajax...

cant seem to see someone coming to barca during the transfer window...really the team is complete and solid, doesnt look like injurys will come and theres plenty of talent in that reserve team aswell to back things up...

yea bojan should definatly get hes grown men on and move to the EPL, but I think he still maturely young and still live with his parents so...

It must be tiring to build up such a team, put the to play the best football in the world and win all the competitions your in in a time span of 1 year.
Guardiola :prayer:
