FC Barcelona Thread

God knows how hard those last two seasons are being, and this is the final and hardest blow to a splendid era. Tito was there from the beginning and held there until his body lost the strength. Such a great man, and so young.

I wish they would put his name to the youth academy facilities of the club. After all, he was the man who raised the best generation in our history and a decade later he fulfilled the dream of playing a game with 11 players grown at the club. It was a 0-4 win at Levante, with: Valdés; Montoya, Piqué, Puyol, Jordi Alba; Xavi, Busquets, Cesc; Pedro, Messi & Iniesta.

This was an explicit dream of him and all of us, and he made it true. RIP, Tito.

Prayers for the families and friends who are dealing w/ the impact of the ordeal of separation of a good person, friend ,father, brother etc.

:?

I was well aware of his critical condition but it was still a chock when I heard the news. My thoughts go to his family and friends. Stay strong! May Tito rest in peace.

RIP Tito, by all accounts an excellent coach and a fine man. My thoughts to his family and close friends. Cancer is an awful, merciless illness and 45 is no age at all.

Saw this video of Pep after Bayern had fought back to 3-2 today, clearly his mind is elsewhere.

The poor guy is absolutely heartbroken at losing one of his closest friends. Horrible to see.

Gone too young :(
May he rest in peace. Keep alive the good memories of Tito.

News flash to Dani Alves. Racism in Spain or football for that matter will always exist. The best statement Brazilians can make is to stay in the Brazilian league. Pele never played in Europe and is still highly regarded. Show ppl that you're a man of principle not money.

Yeah, why fight racism?
Just leave the coloured players where they belong, is that what you're saying?
You live in a sad little world.

Haha this is bullshit , so messi to play in argentina, suarez in urguay , drogba should have never played in europe ... Oh crap in liverpool we have 3 english black players , glen, sturridge and sterling?
What we do? Where they should play :?

Haha I don't know about this ... Are you upset he ate the banana?

Stop making assumptions and learn how to read!

Assumptions eh?
Well, I read a post from you about how racism is presumed to be inevitable in your opinion and you're basically implying all this is Dani Alves' fault, because he got transferred to Spain? That he should have stayed in Brazil?? So the best statement against racism is staying in Brazil?

And then you bring something up which has nothing to do with this discussion at all: principles vs money?

To me, that's a load of utter bollocks you wrote right there.
I don't think I need to learn how to read. You should learn how to write, stay on topic and discuss with a bit of cohesion at least.

Completely agree with rentboy about this.
Oh and Pele played for New York Cosmos, so he didn't stay in Brazil. If he would have had the chance he would have gone to Cosmos years before that.

It is manipulative to compare the 60's and the 70's to nowadays football.
I don't know if it is the case with Dani ALves, but quite a lot of Brazilian football players have a very poor background. Often football is their only way out...palying for a European club is not only a life belt for them, but also for their friends and family. Lots of these players a less selfish than you think.

How am I implying this all Dani Alves fault? He and other Brazilians can make a huge statement by refusing to play for clubs in Spain and countries until harsher penalties are handed out. Racism will always exist, covert or overt. I know first hand how racial slurs affect individuals from my time playing with ppl who were from Central America. I lost count of how many times I heard racial slurs on the pitch with the referee standing right there and doing nothing at all, turning his head and saying "play on". At the end of the day they said "Fuck it, the money is not worth it, I'm going to play where ppl respect me"

But you don't realise you're missing the point here. Dani Alves didn't make a big deal out of it. He fucking ate the banana and took the corner (and flushed the banana down the toilet later that night).
He lives in Spain for 11 years and this isn't the first time he goes through this, probably won't be the last.
When asked about this after the match, he just said he wanted to put the incident behind.
It was Neymar (and his marketing staff) who created that idiotic campaign later on. That's what made it an even bigger deal.

But you make it sound like Dani Alves took it really hard? When in truth, he's not even playing the victim. He's the only one being classy about it.
Neymar's social media stunt looks very opportunistic in my opinion, and I have no doubts he used this shameful incident as yet another way for self-promotion.
In Brazil, you wouldn't believe the amount of celebrities and sub-celebrities posing with the banana and pretending to be indignant about it.
It's all despicable if you ask me.

But to stay in topic, what Gerd said is true: most football players from Brazil come from underprivileged families (sometimes extremely poor indeed).
These people are more resilient than you would think. They leave poverty to live the dream of playing for European clubs, so not even racism would make them give up. Not a chance!

Good reaction by Alves, sadly racism has strong roots in spanish culture. The boy who threw the banana has endured a big media pressure and now there's even a movement to defend the guy. Terrible. But that's how some Spanish people are. Rooted 100 years ago culturally.

The times I`ve been to Spain I seen African immigrates living in the street washing their cloth in puddles. I even seen them using the bathroom outside w/ no regard. I might see that towards immigrates ,but a footballer is beyond my understanding. Im hispanic and I see lots of racism even from South Americans towards dark skin to mulattos.
