eFootball PES 2021 Discussion Thread (CONSOLES)

Amusingly, for some people, game X is the best game ever, but only until game X+1 is released. That's the point where game X is suddenly crap.
Thank god you mentioned this!!!! Can't imagine how much I appreciate you right now.

Also you can't imagine how many times I started typing a comment on this occasion, only to regret and delete it finally.
It will be an essay of more than 1,000 words if I post it some day. :)

But thank you very much again for this specific post.

Just a hint: I call it "The (pes) Winter Soldier syndrome",
for two reasons,
1) Such people come out around this period of time, right before Winter when game discussion is "hot trend", then around February they disappear, possibly stop playing pes, and come again near next release to love the next Pes as the best of the best ever made.

2)Also obvious similarity with Marvel's Winter Soldier, having short memory, memory issues and acting like brainwashed when listening to "trigger words".

Thank you again, did I say it already? :)

I will wait patiently this year see what the feeling is among the forum and the inevitable price drop I have no doubt I'll buy the game out of boredom to see with my own eyes (and hands)

I'm not expecting much the sudden backtrack from 'no gameplay changes' to suddenly 'no trust me this is different' stinks of typical pesteam marketing over the last few years I'm sure they tweaked a few variables in dt18 and the exe but let's be real they arent suddenly going to bring to life the messy 2020 by doing that hence the whole overhaul and new engine approach they know its hit its limits and are trying to sell you the same broken down car with a lick of fresh paint

No idea how this could have passed me by.. but YES, it's a SO much accurate description for how some people approach the game(s). It's one of the few categories I usually avoid to argue too much cause it feels a bit like a waste of time. They have their almost religious convinction that new=absolute best of all (until, as you and Slam said above, the new best comes as out the year later, of course :D) and they'll listen to no rational counterpoint.. but, assuming they'll won't bother about it first, who am I to told others how to enjoy stuff? In the end, live and let live  .

Pure brilliance :LOL::APPLAUD:

Damn !

A little offtopic but...people still believe that PES 2022 is going to be something to look forward to ?

All those niggles (for eg. delayed shot to let defenders block, anything to get the skill ceiling lowered) will be there. It is in 2k games, it is in FIFA, it is in Madden and it is in modern PES. There are here to stay and you and i both know why. Single player games and the depth it used to bring is a bygone philosophy. Just like fox engine, Unreal will be the new marketing ploy and new graphics, a front. At its core, the gameplay will play exactly like it will be designed to play, online.

Sidenote: Been playing PES 2013 and just playing the practice drill makes 2020 look like a PEGI 3 game, and thats just scratching the surface.

It wasn't the case during PES 6 era when you didn't have gameplay patches. Nowadays, game X and game X after 8 gameplay patches are not similar at all, and usually for the worse. Both PES and FIFA suffer from this.
I would even say that it's a smart business model: release a good game, break it with patches, revert patches and release it as game X + 1, break it with patches and so on...

I have no idea if PES22 will be worth ect. But if, like they said, they started from scratch with the code AND it is ambitiously different from past iterations, they will get my money even if it ends up being not a great game. If it turns out it is designed for online, without any interest shown for offline, they will get my money only one year.

I am so disappointed about the past 3 iterations. The game in its current state is in a dead end. I have zero excitement for this season update because of the 20 gameplay code recycling (copy/paste), but I admit I would buy, in the blink of an eye, a full price season update of PES17 with updated graphics for all platforms (including pc).

Agree about the patching trend.

Do you know what was back in that Era. It was every X game was strongly compared with the X-1, we were extremely strict with every new game and had the previous one as the base of comparison.

I don't remember the phrase "this is the best PES ever" to be so overused back in that era PES1 ~ PES6. Basically it was used very rare. Nowadays , every second day you read about the "Best PES Ever" we have this year, only to last until next year. And of course if you disagree, you are extra romantic or you wear nostalgia googles.

All this mess about "this is the best PES ever" started between PES2009~PES2010, when after years, PES2008 was the first time in PES history that could not convince the majority of the fanbase, for being a good game. You know since the PES players were deeply divided to those that loved every new game, those that thought PES6 should be the example for the future, those that played the modern games despite dont like it , etc..

And this happens because it is a natural inner Human desire. It is a mechanism of self protection. When you are after consecutive disappointments, your mind starts to work in this way to protect you from another disappointment. So even if you know deep inside your mind, that the game does not click to you, or you like it at basic level, you are trying to convince yourself and everyone that "this PES is the best".

Basically you start living in an illusion that "you believe that this PES is the best ever". In the course of time you can develop it to levels of : " this is the best of the best, this is the BEST simulation ever made, this is the best simulation we could ever have, this is the greatest invention in the GALAXY, this PES is the greatest human milestone after the Pyramids , etc, etc, etc.." You enrich it up to the level of your desire. And of course when the next game comes, you never, never, never ever touch again the older version.

And the factual proof about this is that
1) If it was really the best PES ever ( and since someone is calling himself a GAMEPLAY-purist ) , they would play it even after the launch of the newer version. It does not make sense to not touch ever again a game that you consider as "the best".

2) When you really have something that is true "Best of the Best" and you know it, you do not need to repeat it everyday. You say it once and you repeat if once per century. When you say it so often and is your basic-core point to defend the new game, then you know you don't believe it, you just try to convince yourself and the others, in order to feel empathised.

Sorry for the psychology break.

Realistically speaking, PES 2022 is the last shot for a footy sim IMO Chris.

If they don't nail it, then unfortunately the hardcore offline guys have three options.

1) Don't buy/play these games and move on

2) Accept these games for what they are and try to enjoy them for what they are because we love football

This is where I am currently at with footy games. With Fifa, I think it sucks, but I play pro clubs with friends and enjoy it for what it is. With PES, I am a few seasons in my ML and while the A.I. is still crappy, I enjoy buying young players and getting them to improve and I think one strong area in pes is the player I.D. and player traits and play styles. Putting a team together utilizing all of that is enjoyable for me-- to an extent-- and it gets my occasional footy fix in.

3) Last, we just keep bitching and moaning and saying the same things year after year and be let down and unhappy year after year. Thats the main reason we stopped doing the Footy United podcasts. We were saying the same stuff over and over again and it gets exhausting and we just were burnt out with being unhappy with these games.

I know you are trying to fight the good fight Chris! I admire your diligence
Well put. I'd say there is a fourth option that I'm going to explore right now; play Pes 5 for eternity.

Shockingly good or bad?! ;)

Vanilla is still some fun for me to play.

As I said: good times ahead!! Try to think positive!

shockingly shite, vanilla, strawberry, summer fruits or blueberry.....it’s a masterpiece in how not to programme a football game......thinking positively changes nothing...............it simply helps to justify parting with more money.
