eFootball PES 2020 Discussion Thread (PS4/Xbox One)

I've noticed this. It feels tame, sedated. In some ways the whole game does now. I enjoy it but it feels enervated...there's not much snap to the game. It may be I havent got the hang of it yet but I also wonder whether this is how konami have attempted to return the feel to that of the demo. It reminds me of one of the pes 14 patches that did something very similar
damn it I hated that in the demo and v 1.0
I think I know enough about this patch now...

Dont want to give you some insane ideas, but maybe just try it yourself..???
Please advice how i can "just try it"
As far as I'm aware, when I download the patch I am stuck with it for good.

@TamaZzzz no, it's impossible. Which is why going back to 1.0 is not an option if you need OF, and so is "just trying" a patch.

Are you on 1.3 and offline? I didnt know that.
I loved the demo, loved 1.0, didnt like 1.2, tolerated 1.3, love 1.4.
If you have any specific questions - ask.
Im happy to answer to the best of my knowledge/feelings/experience.

Thank you. But why isn't it possible? You don't have to be online to implement an option file or am I wrong?
You have to be connected to Konami servers, otherwise it will not let you import/export anything. You will be getting error message saying that your sub account needs to be verified. And you will not be able to connect unless you are on current version and online. Even manual import doesnt work. Trust me - we tried.

Do you have a tactical solution for the problem in ML and League/Cup mode where the teams that should be wiping the floor with you are all docile? And no more challenging than equal or lesser teams?
If you play a big team increase diff up for that match.. if u play on ss and face up with man city make it legend

Oh ok, thanks , yeah I use V1.3. As a matter of fact I havent played PES in about a week. so I'm really eager to play now and I have lots of time, but what these guys wrote sounds terrible. Why didn't you like 1.2?

I much preferred 1.3 to the demo at least, because of how docile the AI was in demo. Several times per game I could take the ball from their defender when pressing and be one-on-one. Worst part is that AI didnt score except for rare counterattacks. So on professional it was too easy: just a matter of how many I score. On top player it was like an impotent trying to have sex with a girl who doesn't like him: I couldn't score at all and the CPU still didn't want to. Every game was 0:0. So that was a big problem even though the mechanics of the moves are really good. And 1.0 was similar from what I remember - little attacking from AI. Do you agree that this problem returned here?

Why didn't you like 1.2?
Coz it felt suffocating on the pitch. AI was overpowered. Couldnt dribble, couldnt do anything with the ball. Felt like I had to pass immediately to survive.

As for new patch - I know the problem you are talking about from the demo. I was also able to take the ball straight from the defenders on Professional
(I mainly play Prof - full manual)
Also - they didnt want to score.
These problems, however, IMO did not come back at all. Not once I was able to take the ball from them after GK pass.
Also - they are scoring goals against me. Im winning some and losing some. Currently, playing in Championship with crappy, created team - im mid table.
The only 'problem' that people might see is that AI likes to pass in the back a bit. To me - its realistic, its a build up. I dont have any issue with it (unless im losing and im pissed off that they are holding the ball)
People reporting that randomness was lost. I disagree with this completely. For the first time since demo I scored some deflection goals and I was able to create chances that I wasnt able with 1.2 or 1.3.
There are still errors from AI and IMO AI plays more human. Ive seen more dribbling, more shots from distance.
I think it was a very good patch overall.

Apologies for my post earlier. I didnt know you were at the point of no return.

There is a lot of opinions in here and different people will like different things. Just wanted you to know the other side - people that are very happy with the current patch.

What have they done... not sure if the slight speed increase is to my liking, prob get used to it... but it's soooo easy. With Celtic even tho i had better players it was still competitive, even the smaller teams. In my first game i thrashed Hearts 5-0 without trying. What's worse i think nearly all of their players got booked for tackles that in the last one they got away with. Possibly bit more realistic but I'm gonna end up playing against three players as skill moves are easy. They also couldn't find a man with a pass from defence more often than not and it went straight to my players. They didn't have one shot on goal either.

A shame as I'm a celtic fan so enjoy spl. Gonna have to go to a bigger league by looks of it.

To confuse poor Sobakus.....

I liked the demo, really liked 1.0, hated 1.2, loved 1.3, hate 1.4...have gone back to 1.0 and for me, although I'm now unable to restore 1.3 forever, I'm very glad I'm able to go back to 1.0, which I much prefer to 1.4.

I've replayed the same match a few times tonight, on both 1.0 and 1.4 - I much prefer 1.0 but I guess it depends on what you want from the game....challenge or realism and/or enjoyment. To me, 1.4 is far more cheaty, and so arguable more challenging. That said, I beat the cpu 4-1 on the last match I played (on Superstar) but to do so, I resorted to playing the PES way rather than playing football.

I'll upload, if I can work out how, an example of the stupid bias in favour of the cpu team in 1.4, which was epitomised by a moment where a high ball was played into the midfield and the cpu player jumped and kung-fu kicked my player in the head. Free-kick...to the cpu. I guess my guy got his eyeballs in the ways of the cpu guy's studs at head-height. Seriously Konami, fuck off with your utterly biased shite.

These are my results from last few matches. Cant say im feeling cheated or that its not balanced. Matches are fun and fair. But it looks like everyone is feeling different.20191026_223706.jpg

Player switching and faster reactions made the game much more enjoyable.
Sliding tackles are still a problem, AI is very efficient at stealing the ball with this move.
Konami definitely need to add more animations to make the defenders reaction look more human when the opponent beat them with skills. For example, elastico (flip flap) is basically useless now and in past games the defender reaction was awful for this skill.

I really like this game after the patch. I just wish there were more fouls, I’m constantly getting kicked by the CPU and awarded nothing.

The game is extremely enjoyable again though - even in SS in ML. I’m not finding it easy at all! But it’s not as frustrating as before either.

A brilliant patch well done Konami. I’ll have to post a video of the set piece goal I scored earlier, it looked so realistic. It was a really nicely worked free kick, I laid it off to my winger, he floated in a cross and my striker rose like a salmon and placed his header. Beautiful.

@Emroth Who are Knightbrook? Your custom side?

Thanks for the feedback guys!

@Emroth no worries, it's just confusion from all of us playing different versions :)) I forgot to consider that too. Also, manual passing probably makes a somewhat different gameplay. I really like the PA1 from this PES - it's not manual where aiming every pass is the biggest challenge that dominates the game, but it's not totally assisted like PES 2019, either. You still have to pay attention to how you aim - I had a bunch of simple passes I messed up when I rushed and already thought about what's next. Have you tried PA1 in 2020?

I myself liked each next version a litlle bit more, because some good things were lost, but (to me) the improvements outweighed them. I really wish I could just actually try 1.4. Perhaps I can watch some videos. The big thing from later versions was the ineffective dribbling. I thought in demo it was even a little too easy and automatic so to speak, but 1.2 brought a bigger problem: obvious fouls you drew by dribbling with right stick were ignored... but I still liked the aggressiveness of CPU. Although I wish there were more times when I am locked on my own half defending and being pressed hard, especially when playing bigger teams. Like if I am SPAL against Napoli, I should be barely able to lift my head... has that happened in 1.4? Also, how is the dribbling/foul punishment?

These problems, however, IMO did not come back at all. Not once I was able to take the ball from them after GK pass.

That right there is very promising!

@normazimuth Wow everyone of us feels different about every version! I prefer a nice balance of both: maybe not perfect but enoyable/realistic enough and also challenging enough. And variety most importantly, individuality of players and teams. What you wrote about PES 2019 and the game being "on rails" really creeped me out  But then I didnt feel that way about 1.2 at all, and I thought 1.3 was not very different, just a little better than 1.2. So maybe I won't feel like that about 1.4? Unless it changed very drastically to become 2019-like.

I am indeed confused :CONF:

I guess it seems your guys' opinions are 50/50, so the deciding factor will be new kits/faces and OFs that are possible with 1.4. I guess I should take the leap of faith...

I hope I dont crap myself!

@Emroth Who are Knightbrook? Your custom side?
Yes. There's a junior club in my village that goes by that name. Badge is theirs as well.
Kits I created myself, with my favourite whisky - Bushmills, as a sponsor.
I edited Barnsley - weakest team from Championship, but I didnt change any player stats. Just names. Edited all player names, so their names are being called by commentator. Picked some irish sounding names, few of my mates names too. My coach is an Indian mate from work, coz he's a real workhorse.
Im having much more fun with this team than I thought I will, haha!

Mate no offence but you keep making the same comments when you are playing cup matches and exhibition games. Play 10 master league matches and then tell me you get 6 fouls a match?

For the people like myself playing Master League, there are hardly ANY fouls. I keep getting wrestled to the floor and get nothing. Yet if I fart on the CPU player, it gives a foul.

Some people saying this is “the best football game ever” since the update it pure hyperbole. The best football game ever should have fouls included for a start.

I buy PES for master league, like many others do. I can’t play pointless World Cup matches all year long I’d get bored. I need to replicate a club season. And a club season without fouls and penalty kicks gets old really fast.
I think 1.01.01 is the best for fouls.

I honestly believe if people dont like PES as it is right now, then sadly they will never like it again.

This is probably the peak for the game.. chances are we evolve into a new engine for the next generation sooner rather than later and with that comes all the crap.

Its not perfect but this is easily the best PES ever made.

I hope 21 gives us that bit more, but im assuming that the last of this 'cycle' as the PS5 arrives and we move on.

hopefully for 1.5 they take the best aspects of each release and put it into one patch lol as of now that randomness is so important for me which is lacking in 1.4 so even tho player switching is improved, i prefer randomness instead.

I hope I dont crap myself!

A significant factor may be which teams people are playing with and against. I tend to play with (and against) 1* and 1.5* teams (most of which I've edited to be at that low level). At 1.0 (and patch 1.3), I can have some really enjoyable, scrappy games v CPU, with lots of loose balls and random fun and the low stats are apparent. With the latest patch, the same 1* teams controlled by the CPU play too much pixel-perfect, ping-pong football and magically suck up nearly every "loose" ball. To stand a chance, I have to play the same sort of unrealistic football.....that's why it's starting to feel like PES19. I can try and play realistic football but it's simply not effective so I have to resort to the PES ping-pong style of play to be able to score.

I do not like how low ranked teams play with patch 1.4. It may be that playing with/against higher rated teams is more realistic and fun with this latest patch.

Played some more today and yesterday, switching back and forth between 1.4 and the demo. My initial impressions of 1.4 where pretty good because it is a step towards the demo. Unfortunately, the part that isnt like the demo, is worse instead of better.

In the demo the ball handling feels so natural and the interplay between animation and ball physics is spot on. Nothng feels like a grind, (almost) nothing feels out of place and, most importantly, slowing down, leaving R1 alone, is rewarded with better control.

In contrast, 1.4 seems to reward quick play much more. Its like playing in a single gear where demo has 3 gears. Just looking at the speed of the dribbling and running animations is off putting for me. Everything is so god damn frantic.

For sure, the difference is not big; its just little things like R1 burst, long passes and turning all just a notch faster but these little thing make all the difference to my personal gaming experience and are very noticable for someone who uses a custom middle long cam (4/4/6).

My game is all about micro managing those 1on1's, looking at opponent movements and rely on last second reactions/decisions. Since 1.1 and especially 1.3 that feeling of actually controlling a football has gone. Instead of visual cues and intuition, i rely much more on what i know to be working. This is what removes the magic of anything can happen for me and makes the game more stale.

I suspect the rationale behind 1.4 is to revert to the demo gameplay but then make it more exciting on a stadium cam. Thats just not me, i want to be the player, not the team. Pretty gutted because i do want to play online in the end and thus i really want to like this game. Yes its fun, more then 1.3, but still not the football heaven i got promised with the demo.

I am going to give this version a fair shot at proofing me wrong the next week or two, maybe i can get used to stadium cam, but if by then it still doesnt click then i will get myself that hardcopy at last.

I dont think id consider Skybet Championship place full of high rated teams..
It might be down to either difficulty, or pass assist. I did hear that 1.4 is more sterile and some of my friends went back to PA0 as PA1 was, in their opinion, more accurate after the patch. But I never play on assisted against AI, so cant confirm nor deny.
On manual im having proper scrappy and random matches, full of errors on both sides.
The only thing I dont like is that 1on1 duels are still very much in favour of defenders. They still dont fall for skills and their sliding tackles are more accurate than Bruce Lee's punches.
Im having a bit more fouls now, but thats due to player awareness being improved, so I can turn and react quicker to whats going on around me.
Most of the time only way to take defenders on is to dribble with left stick, which is a shame.
But thats nothing new.

For some reason it didn't save the full 15 minutes it should, so beginning of both matches are gone. Nonetheless, here's too games I played with the same team against too different ones, with different tactics and different grass length. It was lots of fun.

This one was actually my second attempt. In the first one I won with a late goal, but somehow I only managed to record 2 minutes of gameplay, so I played again just to be battered.

Anyone here don't enjoy the locked in animation? Especially when the defender makes a slow motion tackle and the dribbler is locked in and there is never a chance to recover from the tackle. It wasn't there in demo and I hope that gets fixed on the next patch. Other than that I am still enjoying the game.
