Reading the replies to Official PES tweets about PES 2020 and someone asks

“Has Rashford got up-to-date face?!?!”

I despair.
Could well be a teenager/early twenties guy. Most of us grew up in a time where player faces did not matter because they were all bloody awful and very often hilarious. Cosmetic stuff is probably more naturally a focus point for people growing up with the kind of graphics you get in AAA titles these days.

I'm not saying that Konami should be obsessed with faces, or that fans should be... But I think it's perhaps less a facepalm moment in general when you consider how gaming/graphics/expectations have changed.

Caring about faces is silly. Because we should really be caring about...

BOOTS! :COAT:

Looking forward to finding out what he thought of it. If he's played a good number of games against the COM, probably our best source of info atm about the core gameplay. Obviously, few people outside of this forum/similar spaces have quite the same discriminating eye and high standards when it comes to AI, but hopefully can be informative either way.

There were alot of mishit, mistime and miscontrol instances in the last video. More than I've seen in any PES video in a while which really isn't saying much tbh. Hopefully these will be frequent occurrences based on positioning etc. Also it would be nice to see some more GK animations, esp for saving low shots. Seems like there's only one or two, and these are the same from last year. Prob would of been nice to invite one of the best GKs in the world in Allison to come in and due some mo cap but then they go and lose liverpool.

So far they‘ve only shown human vs human. Mishits (or the lack of it) never have been a problem for me on the human side. Even on PA1 I am fumbling the one or other pass.

The big litmus test for me is whether they‘ve ‚humanized‘ the AI as well. Absolutely crucial for someone who only plays ML.

Not only that but also the question whether there is stats-based variations. In 2019 AI-Bonucci‘s passing abilities were as pristine as AI-Ronaldo‘s.

Any news about AI cheating in ML?
Need a remove scripting, momentum and bring back classic PES where you can beat anyone with anyone depending on YOUR skill!

Adam did make a comment on day 1 about how players had complained about how the cpu got a boost at times during a match and he admitted it happened (and not on just legend & superstar) and that cpu players with poor stats would suddenly start playing like they were a 99 player. He said it was something they were looking at but it remains to be seen what they do about it. They can't remove it because it's pretty much the only weapon the cpu has in their AI model, so all I'd expect is they'll tweak it a little.

100% agree. The AI is everything for me. And my worry is I've not heard them say anything about AI improvements or tactical improvements.

The only (on-the-pitch) changes they've mentioned are all about first touch, finesse moves, etc, which will make the feeling on the ball even nicer than it already is, but PES2019 is a terrible game despite feeling nice on the ball and I've heard nothing that makes me think the AI will improve, other than Adam's admission the the cpu gets a big boost at times in 2019, so they might reduce that.

What is new in PES 2020 exactly? I know we have to play it but...I’m bored by the series now.

Any new stadia?

I couldn’t give a shit about Barcelona and then 19 fake La Liga stadiums (playing at just two generic ones all season because Konami too lazy to add more)

Commentary still going to be shit?

It’s all very meh. I’m surprised Bhatti manages to get hyped for it now, he probably hates the game behind closed doors.

We should watch a clear 60 fps 1080p video, with a bit closer camera.
Except for PESUNIVERSE is there any other channel at E3 which is able to upload videos?
The ultimate test will be the demo.

Why though? I mean look at this time last year and the same people were saying the same thing about a game the majority of us find inept.

This happens on a yearly basis where the guys invited to play test it hype it up, every single time so they will be asked to come again next year. I wouldn’t take anything that they are saying as proof of a improved game at all.

Even looking at the gameplay we are seeing I can tell it’s the same game tarted up with new colour schemes and little else. Having to troll through hours of footage to find misplaced passes when it should be happening endless time in one game is shambolic too.

League mode has been removed in order to ensure a proper implementation of M A T C H D A Y, which is the future, you'll love it, guys! :DD
League Mode was what came closest to real football in PES. Cups included, at least in some leagues, no transfers meant the teams looked more like their real world counterparts over a season, and the dreaded team spirit nowhere to be seen.
So naturally it gets removed for no reason. What absolute bellends.

100% agree.

By the way.. truly hope I'll not sound pedantic  but Bonucci has indeed excellent passing skills for a defender (at least in rl), he always does play kinda as a low playmaker for both Juve and Italy. Not as majestic as CR7 of course but still very very good.

(not to say that you are wrong in general as in 2019 it's the same with way technically worse defenders or players! Just needed to point this one out :P )

Basically this and KONAMI CUP were always the mode of the party, whenever more than 4 friends gathered to a home for PES ,League mode with 5-6 teams was always the “must-go”.
I understand that we are over 30 and not in university anymore, so it is almost impossible to gather in a home to play PES. But for sure some young pes players will do the same.

Interesting to see the mainstream gaming media's take on the PES announcements so far...

This one is incredibly damning.

Kotaku UK: Konami's Football Series Has Had A Very Dumb Name Change

Even Eurogamer, who (up to last year) traditionally give PES 11/10 every year, have written an article that clearly throws shade Konami's way.

Eurogamer: In PES 2020, Play Through ML As Maradona

You can see what I mean in this quote:

You can customise your manager model (Konami mentioned varying body shapes and sizes as a selling-point)

Last year was the first time in years where every review wasn't just a glowing report about how the author used to play PES at university, so automatic 9/10. Good to see they're not going back to their usual form this year too.

Even your average Joe gamer is wising up to this now.
Look at this comment underneath the Eurogamer article:

You are right, of course. For some reason it was the first that came to my mind, though Chiellini would have probably been a better contrast being more the destroyer type he is. Should have picked a Huddersfield or FC Almchendolf defender instead, but I couldn't be arsed to look up the name.

It's not the name that makes Pes dumb. This article is as dumb as Pes name change, does it even deserve an article?

Man, we had a ton of them back in the day too. It's no different now. But at least back then we had the gameplay sorted, so the superficial stuff was ok. Unlike now where it's the other way around.

Not sure if I said at the time but they are dreadful trainers.
Lol. I thought it was just me who thought that.

League mode was dangerous and harmful. It may cause potential addiction to offline modes, other infections an gambling!
Lol and I promised my self I would be a PESoptimist this week. I hope it was just a joke.

I was joking, of course, since some of you noticed the lack of a button for it in the menu. Maybe it's part of a submenu or just not added there, in this demo build. It has been my favourite mode since ML has become lackluster.

Evo-web Pre E3: i dont expect groundbreaking changes, no new engine just an update to 2019 like last year, dont even have hope for ML changes
Evo-web Post E3: maaaan no groundbreaking changes, no new engine, dreadful they are trying to change ML after such a long time, im pissed!

:EMB::LMAO:

But has anyone seen the FIFA Volta trailer? I mean is this what we want? Super-professionally made, hip, 100% in line with the target audience's taste and interests, perfect soundtrack, cool to a point where it's hurting but ultimately rather shallow and vapid. The few FIFA moments they put in there were stiff and uninspired.

It might sound funny, but I somehow prefer Konami's authentic incompetence over the "we-figured-everyone-out-and-know-exactly-what-our-next-move-is" approach of EA. I know the latter is more popular with the kiddos, but they'll grow old eventually or maybe I am just too old and out of it.

It's way bigger than that and you know it is.

It's not just a name change, it's not going from "PES" to "PEF". It's a clear indication of their intentions. It's a clear indication that you don't matter if you don't play online.

For someone to pull them up on this and go "hey single-player gamers, this looks like bad news for you guys eh" - and be so damning of a product where, if you badmouth it, you ain't getting a review copy...

It's just a relief to be represented and for this shift to be recognised and not brushed off.
