eFootball (All Platforms)

2 years just for the servers? I don't think so mate. Maybe I'm the most pessimistic person here in this forum but even I don't think KONAMI will make the game F2P. They made a huge hype, changed the engine and said "taking PES to a whole new level", they couldn't have done all this to make the game F2P . Maybe PES 2022 Lite version will be there in future but I don't think they're gonna make the main game F2P.
A different scenario is that they release the base game on release date as the former LITE version, instead of later in the year, and then the "extras" like offline play become optional DLC or expansion packs. It's something I grimly recognise as consistent with their overall direction.

But let's see; we're fumbling in the dark and following the way of rumour merchants so far.

One possibility you are not accounting for is that they dramatically over-estimated their capabilities early on. Things look very different when you suddenly find yourself a few months from having to release something. I predicted PES would end up f2p a year or two back, it seemed inevitable although I didn't think it would be this soon, but if the online beta was any indication of the progress they've made with the new engine then going f2p may be a way of heading off criticism, since it's hard to complain about a free game and they might see it as the only way they can justify releasing something to the public that looks a million miles away from what they promised. I still hope this is all a big reverse psychology marketing trick and we are going to be blown away on the 21st.

I couldn’t resist the juicy gossip, haven’t been keeping tabs much because me and Pro Evo aren’t on speaking terms at the moment, but here’s my pennysworth if you will

When PES Lite first came into being I feared a F2P future, and I would predict that that’s absolutely the way things are going. It’s big profits from your MyClub crowd and as much as that sucks donkey balls in my eyes, it’s all about money.

However I don’t think this is the year to go F2P, would be a bit of a knacker move after having only an update last year. In a few years yes I reckon they’ll pull the trigger.. but surely not now.

There are some worrying signs though, with staff moving on, a shortage of news, that beta thing (which I can’t comment on as I never downloaded it) and even the Konami shills are quiet. I need slogans thrown at me, I want ‘Free as a bird’, ‘King is back’, I want fruit loops infiltrating forums trying to twist their propaganda.. but it’s so very quiet..

Yeah, all we have is rumors and gossips. But correct me if I'm wrong, Adam or some other guy, already stated that PES would be free to play in the future. It was a couple of years ago, I don't remember exactly when.

Let's just wait. Like the old timers use to say, "the one that dies on the eve is the turkey."

I remember this and wanted to quote it earlier. It was a personal speculation by Asim, someone shared it months ago, after Asim left Konami.

He said that he believed if this situation goes on, with full game and microtransactions incomes, and microtrans would outnumber retail sales, he saw it possible the game to become LITE-only.

But he said about future, not the very next near future, I assume...

Treat this with all the suspicion it is worth:

A PES player I know, who is Spanish, knows another Spaniard inside Konami. This guy had previously informed my acquaintance reliably about the Season Update plans last year, ahead of time, so he has some form.

Anyway, this insider has told my acquaintance that there may be two releases: "first," a F2P online one and "then" a fuller (paid) version with offline modes.

Two important caveats:
  • The guy himself said that a lot of decisions these days are made in Konami Japan, not Europe, and so some of it is just internal rumours.
  • I have scare-quoted first/then as I'm not sure if this is a translation issue, and so not sure whether it's supposed to indicate a time-frame to the release cycle. I can well imagine them releasing the free and the paid offline versions at the same time, or very close together at least, but it would be a weird step to delay the paid version imo.
Of course the extra caveat is that this is a rumour and you don't me from Adam (no, not that Adam! – the general one from the English idiom!). So it could well be total bollocks. But thought I would pass it on because who doesn't love a rumour.

There will probably be a F2P version like there's already a PES Lite, similar to the beta (well a mix between PES 2021 and PES Mobile), probably for PS4 users and available also on PS5 store with 4k 120fps graphics.

But it won't be PES 2022, the beta isn't. From a sure source said to me, believe it or not : it's not really "the" PES 2022 PS5.

It's abit more than a couple of weeks now but i have a feeling that Konami will try to show the real gameplay as late as possible.
I have a really bad feeling about the unveil date.

It will be pretty late. Not before, in the best case, middle October from what i know.
Like the olders PES PS2 Era. Doesn't really bother me as it will gives me more time to found a PS5 stock.

I agree, Surely you'd want to sell the paid version first, then once momentum dies off which sales, you give away the free version to entice new customers.

Doing it the other way around can often kill any curiosity people have for a product because they've played it and gotten it out of their system and might not stick around for a purchase.

Thats's what they did in the past. Release the main game then hype goes down and release the Lite version and I think, this way is makes more sense.

[offtopic]
Well when you see NEW FOOTBALL GAME ONLINE STABILITY TEST AKA EFOOTBALL ALPHA BETA, there is little chance you guess about PES, when you guess about PES you think about Konami, when you think about Konami and the activity they do today you think about Pachinko ... and those of you who don't know what pachinko is, today I came across this video:

Where's this information from? Is "a source" someone who is, e.g., a Konami insider?

It just sounds sooo implausible to me that they would create and develop two entirely separate games for console. Why expend all the extra time, energy, and money on sustaining two separate code bases like that?

Sure they could have different packages, a PS4/Xbox One version and a PS5/Xbox Series version. But in that case you'd expect it to be the same base game, just without bells and whistles on the last-gen consoles.

Top post. I also am concerned about the gebeeal lack of comment or hype from the shills such as PES Universe... Something is definitely awry

even the Konami shills are quiet.

It seems like there is nothing to shill for.

I lately unfollowed Galvani on Twitter because he uses the vague Konami promises, like Unreal Engine, to hype the game. What about now? Is he still hyping Unreal now that we know the real motivation Konami chose the engine?

Did... did we start this...??
...coz if we did - I have few more rumours to spread around!
"Emroth is very handsome and wise!"
Haha wasn't it on that YouTube video/podcast thing first? And that's why we were chatting about it.

But the rumour mill ecosystem definitely works in a similar way regardless. Like the idea that there were would be two separate releases, a Fox-based yearly Season Update for last-gen, and a UE-based mainline PES series on the current/next gen consoles. That, iirc, was just Durandil (or another guy who posted on here about it) casually speculating in private conversation with Renan Galvani about the future of the series.

Galvani then packaged that up as "news" and a "rumour", and his thousands of followers brought it up in places. Happened in the forum my PES league uses, kept seeing it on Twitter, in YouTube comments on PES videos, etc. etc. And there was literally no source for this "news".

On the one hand, it's funny, not serious, etc. On the other, it's just plain annoying, especially since you know the figureheads who like to spread this unfounded gossip are either flat-out grifters or just weird attention-seeking prats who thrive on being "ITK". There's a similar problem in the world of football transfer gossip, where accounts have loyal followings for people who claim to be ITK, and it's almost always just bollocks.

There are more important things, but honestly, I despair...

Not insider exactly but kind of PES relative.
They're trying in fact to release it sooner if possible, so September is not impossible. But it will be pretty hard, and they don't want to release an "alpha" or "beta" game like PES 2014 anymore.

It just sounds sooo implausible to me that they would create and develop two entirely separate games for console. Why expend all the extra time, energy, and money on sustaining two separate code bases like that?

No, you saw the beta, it's practically the same as PES 2021 with another graphical engine. Like the Mobile game takes from current PES and copy/paste and remove stuffs. Not so entirely separate : they already got PES 2021 as a basis + PES Mobile. The beta looks like a mix of the 2 in fact (Mobile + Console version, with Unreal instead of Fox, but nothing really added or new graphically) with the round and the arrow on every player (aswell as Fifa "guide")

Ever since this post there's been a lot of concern in here that the game is going in a F2P direction.

To that, I can only say this: the guy says it quite confidently, but doesn't give a source, and I'm not aware of his credentials as some sort of insider. I know the reason it causes concern is because we can picture it, given the Konami (and game industry) general direction for the last 6 years.

But still, it doesn't strike me we have any good reason to believe this guy – any more than, say, Renan Galvani (that notorious bullshit merchant).
