eFootball (All Platforms)

Either way, they simply do not belong in this gaming world.
But what gaming world is that?

The gaming world I see is one composed largely of huge gaming publishers. The likes of Ubisoft, EA, Bethesda (before bought out by MS), Square Enix... who often release woefully incomplete "games as a service" (recent history has given us Anthem, Fallout 76, Avengers, to name a few) – telling customers there's a "roadmap" for future features to be implemented, all the while selling them cosmetic microtransactions and lootboxes.

The same companies who tolerate abuse in their ranks, and whose executives give themselves obscene bonuses while forcing their development studios to do horrendous crunch, or subjecting them to fire and rehire practices. Also the same companies who outsource their crunch to studios in the East, including studios in Indonesia e.g. with labour laws incapable of protecting the asset designers and forcing them to work in unfair and horrible workplaces. (Your favourite games likely have assets in them designed en masse by these studios.)

Or the companies who decided to raise the price of next-generation games from their historic $60 standard (in the US) to $70, citing increased production costs – despite the fact that many of them release incomplete, buggy messes, and are earning record profits through MTX sales.

The videogame world that houses these companies?

Yeah, unfortunately, Konami are right at home in that world.

I think people that keep referencing the graphics (this screen shot in particular) are misunderstanding or intentionally just not wanting understand…

It’s fairly easy for Konami to polish up the graphics/ player models/ lighting or whatever else falls into that “graphics” category but NOT REBUILD THE GAMEPLAY.

And this is what people are mad about… New engine, new generation, new possibilities and Konami essentially port over the last game.

We were rightfully expecting a new game built upon proper physics, a new collision system, new AI system that removes all of the legacy issues of the Fox engine games and pushes the boundaries.

PES 2022 gameplay will be based on this beta with polished graphics and a few unreal engine bolt ons.
That's exactly what I'm saying. They don't have any new gameplay or new systems in mind. They copied base systems from Fox Engine to UE and will build a game on it. There is no new game here.

Where does it say that this is PES 2022 beta?
i don't think it is a beta probably alpha at best

im yet to play it but it is a performance test I think this is literally them testing there servers maybe on a hybrid version of the game or extremely early version, I very much doubt this was even really meant to be seen hence why its not even labelled as PES

I don't think you can take much from this and expect it to be like PES22 at this time, but i do think Konami need to address what it is now for sure or they will end up getting some serious bad press from this release

Can't wait what kind of "it's a 3-year plan!"-excuse they'll pull out of their ass this time.

Who in their right mind would use an engine that's made for mobile phones? I sincerely hope that the 21st of July will show us something completely different. What a shitshow.

Rightfully expecting or merely hoping?

What I actually expected was a polished version of PES21 gameplay but with dazzling gfx, lifelike player models and animations, dynamic weather and lighting, sun moving across the sky, etc...all the eye candy that would keep lots of people happy and make them believe they've entered the next gen of gaming. There's obviously still time for them to really tart this up but at the moment, it doesn't even look like they're going to achieve that.

What I was hoping is that we would clearly see the beginnings of a new generation of gameplay, out with the old, out-dated, scripted techniques and in with all the new realtime physics, AI etc. Instead, it's a poorly executed attempt to carry over the same out-dated gameplay basics. It's disappointing that it plays badly but particularly disappointing that it's merely a bad version of the old game.

Where does it say that this is PES 2022 beta?

Unless you think Konami is developing a 3rd football game, you can read that is a beta here

https://www.konami.com/wepes/obt/en/ps5/

Also, there is a big adboard in the middle of the pitch, that says the game will be announced on the 21st of july. So YES!!! this is a PES2022 , Efootball2022 or whatever you want to call it BETA, unfortunatelly.

Graphics could change easily.

Gameplay , this will be the base of the game. And its horrible.

This game looks like some kind of plan drawn on a sheet, that hasn't been built house yet. 😂

I don't know what to think and say... How this can be a PES2022 when we haven't even seen gameplay video?! I really hope this have nothing to do with 2022 version and it is some sort of new free to play game.

this is on the beta page quoted

I think they literally just put some junk mega early code up that plays a game solely to test the servers out

My biggest takeaway (other than the Domino's Double Decadence pizza I had last week) is that, it's different from PES 2020/2021, and therefore I'm just glad we will have something different to play this year.

It does feel, as @Emroth says, like the mobile version ported to PS4/PS5 (I'm on PS5). Nothing more, nothing less.

Which suggests that their base for their super-amazing next-gen wonder-game... is a mobile game. Yay...

It's clearly very early though. There's no individuality whatsoever, every player is the same (but I don't mean that in an exaggerated way, I mean literally, I don't think it's been coded in yet that attributes make a difference).

There are also zero offsides (in the games I played anyway) - the AI is just positionally perfect, so they never happen. It seems to me that "error" or deviation just hasn't been coded in yet.

Now, either that's to make the game quicker (for mobile players) - or this is new code that's at a very basic stage. Does anyone know if the mobile version has these two issues (no real individuality and no offsides)?

I also didn't see a single foul (without deliberately hacking down a player with the slide tackle, at least), but I've read others say there are too many, so I'm not sure what happened in my games...!

There ARE positives though. While everything is still very much "one speed only" (you don't have stages of play that are much faster than others, or rocket shots - the players and the ball move at the same speed all of the time)...

...I DID see more variety in shots, with long shots having MUCH more of a chance of going in, and dribbling felt a little more fun to me, with less "stickiness" and/or lag when it comes to controller input.

The reason being, the ball seems to actually be a separate entity now (HALLELUJAH!) - or at least, it has much more freedom. I didn't see goalkeeper animations speeding up so that they always save certain shots, either.

All very interesting...
I have to say that I've seen plenty of offsides and fouls, so can't agree with you on that one.

I agree with you that the ball seems to be a more separate entity, and that means that horrible loose ball thing that PES has always had (except perhaps in PES 2014) seems to have gone.

You're spot on about dribbling in my view too, it does seem more fun.

As you mentioned elsewhere, the main attraction is that it's something different at least, and I'm actually quite enjoying it. That probably explains why I quite liked 2014!

There's been a lot of criticism , but I feel there just might be the basis of a good game here. Whether all the criticism is justified or not hinges on how this beta compares to the full game.

Whatever we suspect, we don't really know what state the game is currently in, but hopefully we'll find out fairly soon.

Okay, but what does that tell you?

That this is the base for the next mainline PES sequel.

It's really not that hard to figure out. I've said it before and I'll say it again: thinking otherwise is wishful thinking to the point of delusion.

How is he lying?
On their own website they reference that it is a beta for a game, for a full release that is on ps4, ps5, xbox, xbox x, xbox s.

Unless they have decided to suddenly develop a second game alongside pes 2022 to compete with pes 2022 for sales and attention at the exact same time, then this is pes 2022.

The thing is, yes, konami are stupid enough to do that. But I doubt it.

Yeah, doesn't say PES anywhere! (Except in the URL for the new football game: .../wepes/... – totally unrelated!)
I don't believe there will be such an end product in terms of what Kimura photorealism said because this version is more similar to the PS3 version

nitpicking here but it just says "announcement is coming" not "the/a game (or PES2022) will be announced on july 21st."! ;)

na, sorry. this wont get us any further... all i say is: just relax a bit, guys! :BYE:

its a shame and its konami (same time)... leaving the customers in the dark and/or playing pr games that look like a disaster!

If there is something kinda annoying about games, it is its hardcore fans.

I know everyone is tired of Konami's shit but this is in no way shape or form PES 2022. If it was they would have been much less vague..

"New football game online performance test"- It's here, no need to second guess it. They shouldn't even have done this test if this was the overblown reaction they would have gotten. People are reaching for straws to criticize them, they haven't even formally revealed their game

The announcement is July 21st, no need to lose your shit before that.

On topic I liked it apart from the awful bugs. Unreal Engine (even 4) provides much better player models up close, mind you this is an awful looking (mobile) port just to test the servers. You can see countless indicators this is not their game in any way shape or form, the dithering, the ghosting from small objects and shadows - all those are things seen in pre-alphas, games really early in dev.. calma calma

Players still look a bit skatey...

...but stamina works... they all look dead by the end...
This is putting the "e" into efootball 2022. This is not clever, flying high into the 2nd half and crashing by full time.

But whatever it is pes/not pes, and what pes2022 will official announce, and deliver. You can rest assured it will be fixed by dlc 6 (may 2022) and any underlying issues will be addressed in pes2023 as part of a 3 year cycle. :P

I very much hope you are correct but I doubt it myself. Why would they ask for feedback on it if it had nothing to do with PES 2022 and it was going straight in the bin after? And why have they not said that this is a build that has nothing to do with the final product?

Hey. I first started reading and posting on Evo Web probably 15 years ago! I met a life-long friend on here and believe it or not, I have been to Konami's offices in Chiswick to preview one of the PES games (when Coutinho was at Inter) as a result.

It is still my jam and now in my 40s, I bought a PS5 in the hope of playing a fantastic next-gen version of the game come September of this year.

Unfortunately, I downloaded that abomination yesterday and have had two games on it. Over the last number of years, Konami has been known to shoot themselves in the face with their marketing and production choices; this is the most Konami, Konami-esque stunt yet!

If they are changing the gameplay like that, for whatever reason, then I do think they could well be done, finished and buried as a football game publisher by November of this year. I do expect PS5 graphics to be good on a game 3 years in development but the PES series lives on its gameplay; that is the USB that keeps folk playing it over Fifa and the franchise alive.

Now as to the Online Beta testing thing, YEAH OKAY fine but at the end of the day, you starved your fans of information for 12 months and then you put a
PS5/Xbox controller in their hands and said this is our New Football game. So now the fanbase will be overwhelmingly negative until July 21st (why wait 10 days after the Euros btw???) and you will have to overcome that negativity. If they have broken dribbling and dumbed down the game in the way the beta suggests, I will abandon the game. And it is only a video game, that's cool. I'll go elsewhere. Surprised PES has survived this long to be honest, as someone who has bought a PS3, XBox 360 and even a moded Gamecube, to play a Japanese version of Konami's game (Emile Heskey!). :))

Peace.

The gameplay will 100% be similar to this test game in the final release.

The non branding is to leave some ambiguity to delay the massive shit storm that’s coming because people were expecting a new game and Konami have fucked it and just copy and pasted the last one. If they officially slap a PES 2022 label on this beta, the shit storm comes harder and earlier
