eFootball (All Platforms)

I’m very disappointed with the gameplay in general but I can’t even see any new features?

Like what new gameplay features can Konami announce out of this? Minimum I was expecting out of the next gen game was a new collision system.

It all really looks identical to 2021 except a few new animations (and I literally mean a few, they still pass and shoot with the same animations from pes 15-21) and tweaked ball physics. GK animations still poor.

I think it's fair to call the new R2 dribbling system new and that control is actually good fun online. It makes it (too) easy to skin human opponent, which has at least some transient satisfaction, although it's made all the easier by the woeful defensive controls and virtually non-existent defensive AI. Or perhaps I just haven't worked out how to defend in this yet but every match I played was simply end to end and get a shot in - nobody could defend against anything, whether it was incessant ping-pong passing, or as I was doing, incessant dribbling and weaving from the back with some lumbering defender all the way up the pitch.

It's certainly not like real football, just some end-to-end esports game that happens to be set on a football pitch.

Can't wait to see what they've done with the ML, if offline play is even in the game any more.

Yeah, it seems to follow none of the patterns of football, maybe the single player will.

Is the R2 dribbling new? It's more analogue like fifa I suppose.
Not much from a mechanical point of view, though happy to be shown otherwise.
I mean, just the ability to knock the ball well ahead like in fifa would open the game up, but they just dont seem to have an engine that can cope with that, like all the players will suddenly go insane not knowing where the ball has disappeared to, because its left the 'grid'.

Graphics on PS4 Pro (I managed to finally order a PS5 yesterday) are horrible. PES 2021 on my PC looks miles better. I refuse to believe this is what the graphics will look like in the final game. As for the gameplay, I really don't know what to say or think. All I'll say is the players still give me the idea that they have no idea why they're on a football pitch.

Also, both my matches were played in an empty stadium. Is the crowd only on PS5? Either way, the stadium announcer announced the attendance was 72k and 68k in those matches :D

They were there man. They were just free as a bird.

Maybe Konami wants to surprise us on 21 july, that's why they released this horrible thing!
:P
No, that would imply some sort of strategy instead of pure incompetence. They completely lost the plot and havent learned anything from the past. Amateurs. Fuck globalisation, share holders, managers and the whole lot. PES would have had their small team of elite developers still intact, pouring out passion projects year after year and slowly but steadily reaching GOAT status. Alas, it wasn't meant to be and 2021 will destroy all hope we had left for at least this console generation. So.. where does one apply for the PESsimist membership card?

Alpha means in house testing, mostly white box testing. Alpha builds when released become beta.

This is what I assumed. Which is why I dont understand how this can be 'alpha'.
Alpha is normally some video footage released under an interview or presentation where it clearly says 'alpha' build. I have never seen anything released as playable and be called alpha. It just seems to be something somebody has decided online which has then been repeated elsewhere. Which I understand, frankly. Nobody wants this to be in any way related to what we'll be playing come september...

IF this "New football game" is in anyway PES 2022 related then I get the feeling that the "PES moving over to a new engine" curse will strike again.

It's new to me - it's also listed by Konami as being a new control https://www.konami.com/wepes/obt/en-us/ps5/manual

I was certainly able to do things I couldn't in previous PES games, such as knock the ball past the opponent on one side and run around his other side to get it, and shimmy between 2 opposition players, leaving them for dead. It felt quite enjoyable for a while, until it sinks in that the rest of the game is still just a bad version of PES21.

And the unresponsiveness of the controls is so poor, you press a button and nothing happens, but it saves it and then about 2 seconds later it executes the command, but by then it's far too late and completely inappropriate. It needs to execute the command the instant I press - if I do it at a time when my guy is off balance or something, make him miskick or fall over or something, so I need to learn to time it. Don't save the command for 2 seconds whilst presumably some canned animation is playing out, then execute. It's just so sluggish and makes for a very frustrating gameplay experience.

Yeah, the sluggishness just makes it feel so deathly.

I'm pretty sure, but cant be certain, that you could do both if those things before, konami just didnt publicise. It may be easier now, or more effective. Certainly wouldnt be the first time konami intros an old feature as new...

agree with you mate, my post was sarcastic. i'm not finding any hope for pes 2022 :BRICK:

YouTube is awash with videos stating this is PES 2022. Whether it is or it isn't, Konami have royally cocked this up from a marketing perspective.

If it turns out this isn't the game then they've completely shot themselves in the foot by not doing a press release stating exactly what this abomination is.

If it turns out this IS a very old, rough build of PES 2022 then they've also shot themselves in the foot because first impressions count & it's absolutely frigging awful.

An absolute shit show from start to finish.

You'd think that after over two years of development that they might have something a little more polished to show, even if it's just for a server test. The confusion around it all is just so utterly amateurish from them.

Yeah possibly. I only ever played against cpu and because it reads your input and makes its defender react before your guy executes, it was usually pointless trying anything against it anyway, so I ended up just being a pass-merchant most of the time.

If the capabilities were already in previous PESs, it was probably via the RAS movements or something, and I always found them so hit and miss in terms of what your guy actually attempted. With the new R2 control, it felt much more intuitive, but would unfortunately be sluggish at times.

It seems fairly obvious it's PES22 - Konami as good as state as much on their own website - https://www.konami.com/wepes/obt/en-us/ps5/

It's their new football game for PS5/XBOX Series X/S and then have a survey comparing it to PES21. This is not some game for mobile only release.

Sad times for football game lovers but from a pure business point of view I’m finding this absolutely hilarious. Seldom do you ever see a billion dollar company behave in such a way to massacre their own product without anyone really understanding if it is their new game, with their own internal marketing not entirely sure and not even communicating with the market you are selling it to prior to the release! I’ve been in professional business for 20 years and I can honestly say I think this has to be the worst pre-release of any product I have ever known.

Regardless of what you/me think it is…the cardinal sin of not actually knowing, because you’ve not actually been told is the biggest marketing mistake ever! This company has catapulted backwards, I think it’s beyond repair and will eventually be swallowed up by a larger corporation…….in one huge dog shit of a swoop they have made players glance to the other game by default…..utterly shocking!

Just watching the videos is enough to show how ridiculous it is to think we are heading for a groundbreaking next gen release…….I think this may actually be the worst PES ever and that’s saying something. Mobile, not mobile, just a server test, PES 22 alpha/beta confirmed by established gaming sites……what an absolute mess.

I’ve said it many times here, my expectations are for a terrible game, I think it’s heading to be worse than that…..the marketing tells you all you need to know about Konami‘s expectations of itself.

So many people are in denial. I don't blame them, this beta is almost a cruel joke by Konami.

Every year i think: "well, they couldn't make something worse than they have already done, right?" Yet every year Konami manages to reach new lows.

"KONAMI is proud to announce that a new soccer experience is on its way!" That's what they said 😂 and obviously this is beta. clearly stated on the site

Yep. As below. Open beta. For xbox and playstation. It's a beta. (Unless of course they're making some other football game for xbox and ps...)

I have the hope ( even veryyyyyy small) that this is a product only to test the online game and perhaps the demo has the details that now missing.
I mean what the purpose to make hair motion or face expression when you want to test only the servers .
I am not an expert but a fun being 50y old who has only hobby playing pes since iss deluxe and want to believe ( falsly?) that this is not even the test product ...

I wouldn't generalise all kids this way. It was just the same on the PS2. I remember all those people online begging for Ronaldo's hairstyle and boots. They'd beg for his underwear if they could. It's the same type of people every generation. Different people care about different things.

I definitely wouldn't generalise calling kids now have lower IQ too.
Yes but unfortunately there will be if not already a new generation of gamers who will grow up with these type of games and expect this experience as the status quo. They will have no idea what football games were like before this and accept this instant gratification philosophy as normal.
I dont generalize just kids, entire human race today is more idiotic that before. Internet and globalization simply made their thing. You can see it in movies, music, culture, video games etc etc ....

Surely there are a lot of kids who are smarter than you and I will ever be together, but some basic middle ground is that you will make more money selling stupidity, that something good.
You are right, the lowest common denominator is now driven by nothing but social media narcissism and will do anything for 15 seconds of attention at all costs.

With that in mind as I said above, the prime generation of youth have the shortest attention spans than ever before now and gaming will adapt to that too. People won't have the patience to build up play and appreciate the risk and reward of their mistakes any more because they will just lose patience and play something that gives them that dopamine rush quicker. PES & FIFA have adapted to this.

Assuming Konami tart up the gfx to look next gen and leave the gameplay almost exactly as is, I suspect there'll be plenty of people claiming it's the best PES ever.

I don't think anyone can claim anything about the gameplay. Online is always very different compared to offline and there is no way to play this beta in offline mode.

In survey they ask how satisfied we are from this product comparing pes 2021 in key factor of the game as team strategy , response even animation .
Now I am afraid that this is the main product. Ohhhhh GOD .
Let’s try to give our dissatisfaction of this horrible thing via survey .

One thing I will give Konami credit is how well they've mastered the concept of taking advantage of your costumers. They can pull off the most insane stunts and people will excuse them and conjure up insane explanations.

What other publisher and developer would release something as terrible as this and not be taken to task for it, especially after taking a break and releasing a season update for 2021? There really isn't one.

True, to a point, but I think we can tell enough already that this game is not underpinned by some amazing new physics or AI engine..

My point though was, if they manage to make it look good, there'll be plenty of people satisfied, no matter how it plays.

What on earth is the camera angle all about. It has no rhythm or rhyme to it. Sometimes it comes in tight, sometimes its out wide, but never with any consistency. Dont think I'll bother playing anymore in the hope this is miles away from where they are at with it now. On the plus side it was very stable online, which has been rare for me with pes in the past
