eFootball (All Platforms)

Well i can't say if this Open Beta new Football, is an alpha-beta state, or a demo , or a mobile-code that will go gone with the wind. But reading the open beta details, it is something that will be published at some point, not something like a mobile code, that will be completelly scrapped.
(as @janguv stated too)

https://www.konami.com/wepes/obt/en/ps5/

To prepare for its launch, we'll be running an open beta prior to the game's official launch, as described below.

The purpose of this beta test is to evaluate the quality of the online matchmaking and connection to the servers.
Please note that gameplay mechanics, balancing, animations and graphics are all under development and will be improved before the official launch.

Unlike this one, whoever responsible to change dash from R1 to R2 needs to be fired on the spot & a punch in a face, i don't even play the game yet. Why change something that don't broken.
It does make sense though. What if you could administer *how much* dash you're giving by pressing R2/RT just slightly or smashing it?
I mean, think at how throttle is made (usually RT, too) in racing games. Something like that.
I'd love to see...
  • Left stick slightly moved from the centre: walking.
  • Left stick halfway between the centre and the outer side: jogging.
  • Left stick fully moved to the outer side: running.
  • Pressing RT in that situation will add a certain amout of "dash" (while depleting stamina accordingly) according to how much the button is pressed.
In addition, triggers on the PS5 controller have some particular feedback that can make them harder to press when a player is tired.
Just sayin'... If they got the change right, it could almost be a game changer.

So I played one match. Lost 1-2.
Guy was fair and played nice football.
Unfortunately i made a booboo and picked black Man UTD kits and he had Barcelona, so most of the time I couldnt tell which ones are mine.

But I have to say - its not as bad as some of you painted here. There is some fun to be had there.

I very much like the tackle button. Used to love it on Fifa until it became useless, coz now you can just run into people and you will take the ball. I tried to do the same here and failed few times, so thats a plus. It was reasonably responsive, considering animations.

Id go as far as to say it was an enjoyable match. Ball doesnt feel as magnetic as it is on Pes21.

I dont play on assisted, but couldnt find option to switch it to manual.
But even with assisted we had a lot of under and over passes and even few shots over the bar, so there's another plus.

I think there is a potential, altho I fear that all good elements will be swiftly removed comes July. Everything will be sped up, passing and shooting accuracy will be increased and tackling will become easier, to reduce fouls. But - it will have a lot of really cool shoes!

Is this online only? And if so, does it require Live Gold on Xbox One (in that case I'd be basically screwed and I won't even bother downloading it)?

No, you can download it for free without subscription. If on PS4 don't search for it, just go to Demos and it should be one of the first games there. Search didn't find any results for me.

Give it a few more matches, you'll very quickly see the repeating problems, most of which are carried over from PES21 and its predecessors.

It's still underpinned by the momentum script. Terrible AI awareness. Single pass from defence to attack is successful over and over. Stats virtually meaningless. Delays in responding to you button press, then unable to cancel. It just doesn't flow. Tactically it's nothing like football.

It's basically a bad port of PES21 with a few tweaks, admittedly some improvement but they're very quickly overshadowed by the same old issues.

btw, manual passing is in the controller settings, Detail subpage.

Been playing all afternoon, actually enjoyed a few of the matches. It's rough as hell but there's a few things i really enjoy like the tackling & physicality. It still looks & move's like absolute shite though for the most part.

I don't really see why they would release an ancient development build to test their online servers. There would be no point in doing that. I guess that build is a few months old. The fundamental gameplay won't change anymore.
Possibly because they want to do a proper/official gameplay reveal later on?

Quite possibly. Bare in mind - I also thought Pes20 demo was amazing, with randomness, physicality and proper, challenging defending, that was forcing you to time tackles right. We all know how that ended..

Usually at this time of the year Im fuming that they are only publishing online demos and no option to play against AI.
It just shows that they are primarily focused on user Vs user gameplay and AI is an afterthought. Thats why we have lost all AI individuality and thats why for months after release they are trying to tweak AI behaviours. But tweaking is not enough if CORE AI mechanics are dull, repetitive and illogical.

I mean, it wouldn't hurt to wait few months until release date.
Yeah of course but...
From what I see, the uniforms now have normal maps, for more details (just like FIFA) that means a new kit template. These things we should know as soon as we can to complete Konami work. and little things like port all stadiums from P21 to UE PES22. I don't have a PS i play on PC, we PC players know for sure what it the meaning of "waiting" we are always, always the last part of the train. :LMAO:

They could've used a build based on PES 2021 then.

This is what I dont understand either. Surely you'd use the game your going to sell to test the server and network code?

Dont get me wrong, I want this to be the case, I'd quite like to buy a ps5 and play a good football game.

Konami have made it pretty clear that this is the base they are working from. The mobile game. They are asking for gameplay feedback for it.

There isn't some magical next-gen version in some basement.

Are they really working from the mobile game as the base though? If so, it just makes a mockery of the ps5/xbox x.

It's like the next GTA using the old top down ps2 games as a base.
Beyond contempt.

Trying this on Xbox One.
Couldn't even find an opponent with the default matchmaking settings... Made them the less strict I could, I got matched with someone at the third or fourth attempt.
Laggy as Hell and stuttering like no tomorrow.
At the beginning of the second half he couldn't move his players, nor could I.

I will give it another try later but it's not encouraging.

I am also on Xbox One, I do occasionally find players to play with, also out of my 6 games, 4 were good. Only 2 were laggy .
But yes there are some really rare moments that neither of us can move our players for like 10 seconds

It's alright for me.

Can we also finally discuss the actual purpose - the online connectivity rather than going back and forth on the gameplay

Also:

IGN understands that this demo has been created in Unreal Engine – which PES will switch to for the first time this year – but Konami says that "gameplay mechanics, balancing, animations and graphics are all under development and will be improved before the official launch." IGN also understands that in-development versions of the game have already been improved beyond the state of the demo.

But the purpose is not simply testing the servers, they made a survey asking about gameplay. It’s up, it has been posted in this very thread. Why would they make a gameplay survey if they only wanted opinions on online stability and performance? They wouldn’t.

The questions are somewhat about Responsiveness in-game, which is also linked to connectivity online

I like the "New football demo".

The main improvements over PES 2021 are:
- Slower pace. More realistic.
- Better ball physics. The ball is more loose.
- Improved deflections.
- Great shooting. More difficult to score.
- Better goalkeepers.
- PA1 finally playable. They nailed PA1.
- New defense system. No more X tapping.
- No running button when attacking.
- Better menus.
- Great player faces.

I think PES 2022 will be a masterpiece.

They are not though?

There's a handful of questions related to online. Immersion? Replays? Highlights? Players' faces? Atmosphere? Ball trajectory and motion? Refereeing? They even have tactics questions. How are these related to online?
