eFootball (All Platforms)

There is no more super cancel ,with R1 it is unusable, at least I didn't see anything happening with it, as FIFA but worst.
For me I was using Super Cancel. I found it was very similar in function (off the ball) as holding L2, which is now the option to charge at a defender. If I tried that with just sprint (now R2), it was assisted relative to the ball, but with SC it wasn't.

Unsure for now about SC on the ball.

I agree in general they've gone down a FIFA route for defending mechanics. May not be a terrible thing, if it alleviates pressure spamming. But some things are clearly still missing – no RS player switching, meaning it's impossible to cover lanes and anticipate attacks.

Hopefully whatever they’ll be showing in July is something big, the first teaser showing the new camp Nou and Messi was great, so hopefully they have something even better than that to show.

Just completed a decent session with the PES Netcode Test Edition
Most matches had short (less than a second) lag spikes but were completely fine for the most part, even with a 1/5 connection. Some matches had no issues at all.
Only one match failed to complete due to a disconnection, not sure if the other user quit or what happened.

Unless they are hiding control scheme options, they have removed quite a few of them in this edition. I am talking about the assists section, there are less tweaks than on PES2021. Also keep in mind that according to Konami this a Alpha build with many of the aspects still in development.

Gameplay
Coming from PES2021, gameplay felt cumbersome until I changed some of the aforementioned control schemes and assists to match PES 2021 more closely even though many are missing here.
It seems that they removed the right stick player switching which is currently present in PES2021, thus it results in me frantically pressing the L1 button until it switches to the correct player, and at times it never did.
L1 + Right Stick Flick toward your teammates to initate runs is also absent. A super useful tool in PES2021. Very confused about the removal of these control functions.
Goalkeeper saves far too many shots from close range ( 1-5 meters )
While it did not happen often, passes going to unintended recipients is pretty annoying. Only notice this because in PES2021, this was super rare.
Call second defender mechanic seems absent unless I missed it somewhere. Another useful tool that was crucial in PES2021, made defending an art.
L1 + X to your team mate from kick off, hold the ball until initial passer get to defensive line and press L1 + triangle for a long ball to attacker is still exploitable here. PES2021 suffers from this but you would just track the attacker with a defender manually and it would stop it, here it is a bit more annoying to defend.
Gameplay in terms of the match flow ,passing and shooting is good, but there are a lot little issues that make this closer to PES2016 than the excellent and near flawless PES2021.
Passing feels quite good again, shooting has gone backwards because the Goalkeeper cheapens every attempt with miracle saves.
Match flow is good and defence to attack transitions are fun but AI being a bit dumb makes it less enjoyable when you finally manage to break through and score thus also cheapining the goal itself.
Defensive AI just feel too helpless without human intervention and even then it feels like the attacker has more advantage. They had struck the perfect balance in PES2021, not sure why this was hard to maintain.

Graphics
Stadiums look good
Pitch has a certain fuzz to it that interferes with the clarity of the image, really wish they looked at what some PES2021 modders have come up with.
Player models look good, lots of variety in terms of body types, etc. Faces for some players look good while others are just ok.
Hair for the most part looks terrible on most players
Crowds are also underwhelming in terms of look and especially animations
Lighting engine during day time washes over kits and causes some difficulty in distinguishing kits
Shadows absent under players and ball at times, replays show strange shadow artifacts on most moving objects on the pitch
Replays also exhibit visible ghosting on ball and a wide variety of shadow trails and glitches
General presentation needs work as always, scoreboards, adboards, player ID etc

Performance
During the game, it runs very well.
During replays it runs okay, but when the camera shows a wide shot which includes pitch, fans and players the performance plummets

Menus
Overly simplistic tactics screen, PES2021 had sorted it out to some extent. But now you have a horizontal pitch with players squeezed into the graphic of the pitch, very stupid change. Checking player form and stats is cumbersome and laggy again.
Main Menus and in game menus still look bad.

Sound
No commentary to judge
Crowd reactions are good for goals and chants are pretty nice too
but the crowd 'ohh' and 'ahh' evertime an attacker runs past someone in the attacking half. Sounds stupid and unnatural.
On pitch sounds are fine

Refs
Fine, a bit happy to give yellow cards for clipping players on the heel but that should get balanced before release anyway.

There's definitely some middle ground between the two ends of the argument here.

It's clearly an unfinished, early version of whatever it is and it's for testing servers and nothing else. It's not PES and they're not claiming it to be. Judging the gameplay and calling it the final straw at this stage is a bit over the top.

On the other hand, given our long and storied history with Konami and their regular fuck ups, it's definitely a valid concern to have that we may be served this up with some bells and whistles as eFootball PES 2022.

There are no conclusions worth drawing at this stage.

No more super cancel and fake shot as we know... now the fake shot is combination with R1 or R2 :D why ?? NOBODY know.. nobody ask them to change it...
Fakeshot always was shot+ pass since PES 2... now its gone. Now is shot/pass +R1 or R2
Ah I didn't realise that about fake shot... (SC is still in it imo though, see above). I think the logic here is this: A sharp press of R2 with LS direction now does a knock-on; previously, if you did a fake shot or pass with any momentum, your player took the ball with him into space, so now just use one command to pretty much serve the same function. Haven't tried it in practice but that would be my best guess at why.

It's weird how nobody else does shit like this, isn't it?

Imagine an "online stress test" launching for the new Gran Turismo, with the gameplay and graphics of a mobile port.

Not even Konami in general create a mess like this and confuse their fanbase so regularly. Just the PES team. How do they do it?

It's insane - and now we're already defending the quality of this early code (confirmed to be early code by gaming sites who've had direct contact with Konami), because we're so desperate for this code to, somehow, be completely unrelated to the final product. Which, when you think about it, is ridiculous. (They've not ported a mobile game to consoles for something to do, cos of Covid boredom.)

It's so bizarre how it never gets any easier being a PES fan...
It is strange, You'd think they would just issue a more concise press release explaining it's unfinished, call it PES 2022 online test and simply own it?

This thread right now:

Thanks, Konami, never a boring summer with you!

I noticed the PlayStation logo appears during matchmaking, could be this a sign of cross play between PS/Xbox/PC?
Problem is that Sony are the ones who get in the way of cross play. Charge developers a lot to make it possible. The only platform that does it. I'm sceptical it'll happen in PES.

There are two camps out there that are claiming TWO things:

1. ''This is just an online stress test, this has nothing to do with PES 2022, its not even the same game.''

2. ''Several media outlets (IGN, EUROGAMER) claim it IS an older version of PES 2022 cobbled together just to test online. Things will be built upon it.

Its the typical Konami shitstorm that has left fans confused and bewildered because every year they have surprises up their sleeves.
Eurogamer is calling it PES 2022 DEMO.

It’s 100% the gameplay that 2022 will be based on.

There’s no magical alternative super next gen PES 2022 in existence… the graphics maybe yes. Not the gameplay.

How many times in the past have we heard “it’s just so and so early code” as an excuse for poor elements of the gameplay, only for them to still exist in the final game?

Ive been playing manual and it feels pretty manual to me. More so than 21. You can’t complain if you play fuma. It’s fine
I'm FUMA too, and it doesn't feel that way to me unfortunately :/ Especially passing. Hearing the same things from all the guys in my FUMA league as well.
- Goddamn freezes even with the superfast PS5 SSD
Do you mean like changes between in-play/out of touch stuff? It seems quicker in that regard to me. But there will be some freezes in online play given it looks to be generational cross-play right now.
Maybe they've changed the "running buttom" to R2 to make use of the dualsense adaptive triggers, no?
Yup, they said as much on the website. Well, not so much the haptic component of adaptive triggers, but being sensitive to input, yes. The harder you press, the faster you go.
We’ve established it’s a mobile port and not 22. Fair enough. Makes sense whatever..
I don't think we have established that though! I still think it's more likely (a) this is PES 2022 and (b) they've used the bare bones of the UE4 developed mobile game to create this game. And regarding the UI elements: they've been going in the mobile direction with the console release for a few years now.

I think the thing that is throwing everyone is the graphical fidelity. If this looked how we expect a modern game to look on release, in terms of the pitch, the lighting, the shadows, the player models, etc., we would all be talking about this as a PES 2022 beta, not as a mobile port.

😂

Me getting confirmations about why I keep coming back to this place.

Me, us, adult people having the vary rare ability to be reflected, even clarified.

.. Or at least pretending to be.

Close down the early 2000's my lovely friends. This isn't whether it's an early beta code or not. It's gaming companies going in another direction.

You are all writing about micro transactions etc... But you're clearly not dealing with the fact.

In all seriousness - initially I thought it was a quick and simple port of Pes Mobile, just to test online performance and matchmaking with unreal engine under the hood. Thought this has nothing to do with the version they are building. But this image that @Chris Davies sent me, from Pes21, is making me worried now, coz it really looks like this is some version of upcoming Pes22.
And even if its an early version - they dont have much time left to magically turn it into proper game

And here´s the problem with KONAMI´s lack of informationen.
"NEW FOOTBALL GAME"...this could be everything!
Eurostar is calling it the demo of PES 2022.
No one knows for sure what it is, but KONAMI is not able to brief the fans properly.

Guess only time will tell...

This will be in final version, gameplay can be edited like speed etc ... but core of it will be what you see now.

For me graphic are terrible, but animations (except goalkeepers, which are worse than current PES, and they are now worst ever) looks promising, but clearly unfinished.
Player positional awearnes does not exist, like every PES ever.
Player models OK, ball physic slightly better than current PES.
Passes looks good to be honest.

But graphic are terrible ... they do have large b**ls if they put game which looks like this on PS5 and UE in two months ... this is 2015 graphic, PES 2015 looks better. Lightning is almost non-existing. How can this happen, only acceptable explanation is this is on lowest details possible so they can test network more easly.

I'd tend to agree.

I mean, we don't know for sure. But all the other betas in Konami's history were indeed more or less like the final game, as far as I remember. There usually was a final, decise balancing (generally for the worse :D ), but never anything radically different from the core.

Then who knows, we are in the middle of a great console generation switch, it might be different, it's not out of the realm of possibilities. I'd just not bet a cent on it personally tho.

To play devil's advocate, these are different times, and standard game-testing procedures throughout development may be forced to change because of Covid, and we may be seeing a much earlier phase of development than usual.

...but also, if you're going to the effort to add stadium announcer lines, the PS5 controller images, the more detailed kit models for certain scenes, the new cutscenes themselves etc. and produce the above YouTube video "guides"... then this isn't just an alpha version.

Have played the "new football game" on PS5 for about 12 games, and deleted it after that.

I cant beleive that the first approach of Konami with their fans regarding PES2022 or whatever has been this BETA online, i mean, it was like a year without news of the game, expectations are very high , and withouth any announcement they put this horrible thing in the hands of the whole world? What type of strategy is that?

regarding the BETA itself (It is a Beta "konami statement" , not a pre alpha as some people say) here are my conclusions of the game:

Pros:

- Some new good animations on players / goalkeappers,
- continues play, (like in goal kicks, or fouls) have been inproved
- X instead of options button to quit replays etc
- Strategy screen, i like it

Contras:

- It looks like a PES MOBILE poor upscaled version.
- The circle around the players is awfull and it cannot be disable right now (same circule as PES MOBILE)
- Graphically it looks bad, really bad, but i think this is not fair to be judge as this is no a proper DEMO
- They get rid of the double presion with the square button (how this is possible??? is one of the best features that have been in the game forever, please bring it back)
- The X + Square Attacking action, has also been deleted.
- The game feels rigid , i was expecting a PES2021 game with more fluidity over the players control.
- Players modelings look weird
- Running animations look weird, like a horse running.
- The camera is awfull, but i dont expect this one to be the camera of the final game

Overall im not happy with this BETA test, as im afraid this will be used as the base of the game that will be launched in a few months.

Damn the graphics and gameplay really looks like the mobile version being ported to Console, it's just so similar having used to play the game since the first installments that uses UE4 (PES 2019 Mobile) even previously when they only uses HAVOK (PES 2018 Mobile and below), I'm not just hoping but expecting this version to be only like 30% the capacity of the full game later, both gameplay and graphics wise, and I can very much be disappointed next month.

Im having great fun in here today!

Its Konami, we've known them for a while now. Its not a surprise they are being more cryptic than this bloke who guarded Holy Grail.
Knight.jpg

Im gonna say one last thing..

This version might not be what we expected to be, but fear not - MONSTER Patch is coming!
